1822  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Most important thing from IRS ruling on BTC on: March 29, 2014, 02:47:31 PM
They wont rule it that way, you know they wont. They want their share of the money...

They have ruled that way, its a capital asset and you owe capital gains if/when you realize a profit in fiat or in goods/services.

Mark to market is for an unrealized profit not a realized gain.  It is for capitalization requirements, not taxation.
1823  Economy / Economics / Re: Winkelvoss ETP could become THE pricing mechanism for BTC on: March 29, 2014, 02:43:02 PM
In my opinion the Winkelvoss ETP will be very unlikely to become the pricing mechanism for BTC, but since the issue was raised

Whats the ticker?   I want to short this sucker

Its not out yet.
There is probably a long term play in shorting the ETF against a long bitcoin position just because you aren't paying anything to hold your own coins, but I wouldn't naked short this IIWY.
Consider how many billions are locked into US 401K plans that could suddenly flood into bitcoin holdings.  We should expect this to unlock new investment in bitcoin.
1824  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] NORFED Liberty Dollar Collection: Silver, Copper, Paper - BEST OFFER! on: March 29, 2014, 02:36:52 PM
Am always interested in Liberty Dollars, but have most of these already.
Are you taking the prices from Ron's?

I just found a clone on Etsy. Their QR code doesn't have scan.

The folks making these use Silver Plated, but they left the .999 Fine Silver on it.  They are done in China (the wrapping on the one I bought was Chinese anyway).
Maybe they don't read English?
Seems like it. I just wanted to let you know that there is a fake on there Wink

EDIT: Damn, $299.95 for the gold plated one. I wonder how much the 5 anniversary is worth right now. I just wish that I had a COA for it.

We didn't do COAs for the 5th anniversary piece, but I will vouch for yours. Smiley

You know the amount of time it takes to move new money to bitstamp.
You know when the price moved down.
You can expect new money to be attracted to the sale on bitcoins at bitstamp and when.

And thought that the "420 support" was inviting him?

This dump has weak volume compared to the last two, and seems to be running out of steam.

Does anyone has a explanation why we did have a 15-25$ spread between the western and the asian exchanges in the last 2-3 weeks?
Havenīt we been mostly equal before?

More people selling in China than elsewhere where more coins are probably being bought up?  Just a guess.

There should be at least a theoretical possibility for doin arbitrage between the exchanges which would remove almost all of the difference after a few days autmatically.

Theory and practice are the same in theory, but different in practice.
Do it yourself if you think there is money there.
1835  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Study: Everyone hates environmentalists and feminists on: March 22, 2014, 04:15:09 PM
EXTRA HINT: I don't recall once in this thread where someone who was defending either feminists or environmentalists has said, "yeah, the movement goes too far here, and here, and I and others in the movement are working to restore sanity in that area by getting legislation *repealed*." Now, if you're defending these movements, but the idea of ever making the above statement seems worrisome or somehow wrong to you... YOUR MINDSET DIRECTLY CONTRIBUTES TO THE PROBLEM.

Quoted for truth.

This applies to all *ists at a very fundamental level.
If you don't police your own, your group gets tarred.

Am not a joiner of groups myself and this is one of the reasons.
Even if I agree with much of what a political party, or movement says, they all have outspoken wackos that grab headlines with their nonsense.  So prefer not to be lumped in with any of that, and by the same token as judgemental as I am, I don't categorically thing all members of any group are bad or wrong.  Being wrong is an individual thing.

Can I send a bunch of old cards to you, and you tell me what they are worth, and if I don't agree to your price have you ship them back?

During the 2013 trough, the absolute bottom was about 2 weeks after the news hacking.
I suspect that buyers over the next week and a half will be among the best of 2014.

1840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-Qt / bitcoind version 0.8.6 released on: March 22, 2014, 03:49:27 PM
I run a few systems with bitcoin-qt (now Bitcoin Core) to support the network.
I am a bit less keen on the v0.9 client with the x.509 centralisation.
I look forward to a fork, hostile or not, that uses a distributed certificate keyserver system for those odd ducks that want additionally authenticated sources and destinations beyond the EC.
This weird centralisation in bitcoin core is ill considered and presents an external risk which is unnecessary.

I get that it is an answer to the coinvalidation seekers, but it is a poorly designed answer.

Please pass me a fork.

Until then, not upgrading even though the 0.8.6 client doesn't resolve the malliated issues and I have wallets that don't know how many coins they have in them because they have 0 confirmation spends in them that are counted against the total due to the malliation spam in February, so my wallets would have more spendable coins if I upgrade, not worth it.
