If look at this picture, it turns out that diversification is not such a good idea.
Diversification doesn't truly exist in a highly correlated market. The crypto space in one of such markets where currencies mirror the price actions of others, so when there is a crash, majority of coins get effected, similar to when there's a spike up.
A diversified portfolio would contain assets from different niches, real estate, crypto, stocks, gold etc.

To do this, need to have the necessary skills, abilities and knowledge, which most likely will be lacking. In theory, your advice is good, but in practice, few people are willing and able to follow it. Especially when it comes to newbies. Many will prefer a simple and easy way - investing based on the capitalization of the cryptocurrency on coinmarketcap, that is, the top-10.
You should not be investig your hard earned money, if you can not take out the time to actually research on what you are investing in. If one blindly jumps into an investment, there is a high possibility you would get rekt in the long run.
Researching is not rocket science either.
1882  Economy / Speculation / Re: Industry experts believes BTC is primed to hit $106,000 on: July 28, 2022, 06:13:52 PM
Today we have another news coming up so we believe this prediction would lead to something good.
Predictions do not lead to anything, the market does not react to them, so do not expect anything to come out from it.
Everyone has their expectations of what the future would be for Bitcoin and how the price would move. No prediction is more correct than another, even if the news writer throw in words like expert or analyst.

Rather than trust predictions, create your own price expectation over the long term based on price history and current fundamentals, ideally this should be a range (both in amount and time frame). For example; Bitcoin could be worth between $60k - $120k within the next 3-5 years.
1883  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcoin is King on: July 28, 2022, 05:55:04 PM
I increasingly see people's opinions that in order to preserve value, to diversify their investments, you need to invest in the top 10 cryptocurrencies,
There are different opinions on the best way to invest, but I mostly do not agree with the idea of judging by the apparent market cap of a currency in relation to others to pick your asset:

• For one, market capitalization is not a proper indicator of a good asset and can be easily manipilated to give a false sense of security,
• And my second reason, is what you've highlighted in your thread. The top coins are not fixated, the top 10 today would almost definitely not be the same in 5 years time or even in 5 months.
Do an actual research if you want to invest, don't just bank on what majority is doing or possibly inflated figures.
1884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tether fully regains its peg on: July 28, 2022, 05:48:53 PM
I've not noticed anything strange on the Tether charts over the last couple of weeks to cause any sort of panic. It has always experiences mild volatility with the $0.01 to $0.005 range and that is not also surprising, considering trades are always occuring over the different exchanges.
1885  Other / Meta / Re: Are there criteria so that the awarding of merits varies? on: July 28, 2022, 07:34:57 AM
But I have questions, are there criteria so that the awarding of merits varies?, I just know that the post should informed but I see the merit rewarded very varies.
The general idea is to award merits to quality posts. But, the concept of quality is subjective and varies with different individuals, so to an extent the criteria varies.
I could merit something I find witty, or informative, or merit for the effort put into the post. I could also merit a post I disagree with depending on the content.

The question popped up in my mind after seeing this post <snip>
this users have earned 50 merits when he just created the account 2 day ago, I think he will good posters so can earn many merits fast, but he only got it from one member.
I can't ascertain the reason for the merit dump, and don't need to cause users award merits differently.
I typically give smaller chunks of merit, maybe cause I'm not a source and I quickly run out of smerits, but if a user feels like giving larger numbers to a post they are impressed by, then that's fine, and has been done many times before.
1886  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] Competition for the best slogan for Betnomi / Prize $100 in BTC! on: July 27, 2022, 11:37:14 AM
Sound like - you can quickly spend money but it will take time and effort to withdraw winnings Cheesy
Looking at it again, it does sound a bit that way.
I'll add an edit to try clearing that up.
1887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Trx( tron) wallet mining risk or not? on: July 27, 2022, 08:45:34 AM
Man if that doesn't look like a scam to you, and knowing the craphole that this industry is, you need to be A LOT more skeptical in general.
OR, they could be subtly promoting the scam link for naive newbies, who might click in, to see what the site is about.
The posts subtly talks about rewards, how to go about it and slips in credibility value based on partners (which I highly think are false).
It's an assumption and I could be wrong, but I mostly see posts like this as clickbait.
1888  Economy / Reputation / Re: Why was franky1 banned from Dev & Tech? on: July 27, 2022, 08:31:12 AM
As a newbie on the forum, Franky1 was one of those guys who I really admired and loved to read his posts on Bitcoin discussion board, even though I barely understood 60% of that he talked about.
I found him to be very knowledgeable and technical. I dare say in the early days (before the feedbacks and ban) they used to post on different boards around the forum, as opposed to now when Franky1 frequents few boards.

People shouldn't be tagged for their opinion, nor banned. At least, allowing anyone to share an opinion is how a democratic system should work. If you don't like what a user has to say, ignore or debate but don't tell him to shut up. Otherwise, it's acting a bit like a dictatorship in which you have 'to obey' a group and their ideology
Tagging the account does not necessarily shut them up, it's just a heads up to other members that they should not simply swallow whatever content put out, especially as newer members judge who to listen to based on rank and merits.
Banning is a different subject.
1889  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MSTR and GBTC (Grayscale) Custody in Coinbase? on: July 26, 2022, 09:25:03 PM
Their most recent 10k?
What does that mean?
Last time I checked microstrategy did not reveal how they store their assets (and I've not really looked into Grayscale) the.
But, there is no evidence to support that either of them actually use coinbase for storage.
1890  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Steps to owning sats on: July 26, 2022, 09:06:42 PM
Somewhere I read by 2030 there will be 1 billion bitcoin user. It seems reasonable to me 😉
For people to use Bitcoin, they would have to own it first. With a world population of about 8 billion, I would say it's unlikely that about 12.5% of that number would hold Bitcoin in the next 8 years, that's a quantum leap and is not feasible imo.

I think I also saw a post around the forum recently, discussing that topic; it would likely have involved all cryptocurrencies and with that would still be an optimistic claim.
1891  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] Competition for the best slogan for Betnomi / Prize $100 in BTC! on: July 26, 2022, 08:44:29 PM
You can not offer slogans of other bookmakers!
It would be a bit difficult for one to determine if a slogan has been used before, as there are so many betting platforms and one could coincidentally pick the slogan of one of them.
My submissions;
• Betnomi - Something for everyone
• Betnomi - Bet easy; win hard Big
1892  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Steps to owning sats on: July 26, 2022, 07:27:26 PM
The bigger question is, is this achievable by anyone or do we have anyone who has tried out this similar methods before ?
Congratulations, you just discovered DCA - Dollar Cost Averaging.
That's one of the most ideal ways to stack up bitcoins without pressure of checking the price to determine the best buy in time.

You described how it works properly in your post and it's a workable formula that many people have used to acquire bitcoins and other assets as well.
1893  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Steps to owning sats on: July 26, 2022, 07:12:19 PM
I’ve of the wondered how many people have though beforehand that they can only acquire full BTCs, without knowing (or not until a later stage) that they can and probably will go for fractions (i.e. Sats).
I've encountered a number of such cases. They either didn't know they could buy fractions of Bitcoin or they were not used to buying fractions of an asset, so thought it's unprofitable, sort of like it would be unprofitable in the long run as they did not get a full stack.
Such people would rather opt for assets which are dirt cheap, cause they see more potential for growth if the held millions of a token, compared to fractions of Bitcoin.
1894  Economy / Economics / Re: The impact of Russian and Ukrain war on world economy on: July 26, 2022, 06:54:33 PM
...what is your thinking about the collapsing of world economy with highing inflation.
It's a difficult situation, but not to the extent of collapsing the world economy.
The lingering war would have lasting effects, as it was unexpected and many countries who were heavily dependent on either Russia or Ukraine got hit hard, and it would take a while, but they would recover and adjust.

The lockdown crisis is also a factor in the falling economies and would also take a while to recover from.
1895  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you safely keep your recovery phrase written on paper? on: July 26, 2022, 11:17:09 AM
Paper and ink stored properly will survive hundreds of years. Proper redundancy and off site back ups should be the most important thing that people focus on. Two pieces of paper in separate physical locations is far more resistant to disaster than a single piece of metal.
+1
This is a very practical advice which would save users lots of headaches, as well as, money spent on acquiring fancy ways to store their bitcoins.

• For one, paper storage makes it relatively easy to back up your seedphrase within minutes as compared to other means, so, one can easily create multiple addresses and back them up safely.
• Anyone can do it themselves, as opposed to some other means of storage that would require one to visit a handyman to execute properly, risking exposure.
• It's easy to store something written on paper safely in multiple locations than to store a block or plate of steel.
1896  Economy / Economics / Re: Yellen says economy shows no signs of recession on: July 26, 2022, 10:53:27 AM
I'm not a U.S. citizen and the information I have about recession, inflation and rising cost of living is from what's available online and in the news.
I would say to an extent the global market stage has been affected by the happenings over the past 2 or so years, and each country has taken a hit, albeit to different degrees.

Sometimes, I catch a glimpse of what is being said on televised news. And it is like a completely different world from the articles published on the internet. The content is completely different Has anyone had this experience?
Well, news releases and written articles are a bit different. Writers these days do no write original content as much as they used to, and many of the released articles are quotes from government officials which would most likely be optimistic. News casters more often speak on pertinent issues and share their own original thoughts (could be biased of course).
1897  Economy / Speculation / Re: STHs not selling on: July 26, 2022, 07:30:30 AM
Is it still possible for bitcoin to fall below $14000 that some analysts predicted when some bulls are not ready to sell yet and some even bought more bitcoin at a price below $20000.
Bitcoin can fall below $14k, and that's not because some analyst predicted it, that would be because any price action is possible in the crypto market.
While $14k is possible, I would say it's not probable at this point. There would need to be a sufficient sell pressure to pull the price to such levels, and with holders not selling off, that is not likely to happen yet.

Sentiments of holders and traders can of course change at any point in time, so predictions and speculations can always be proved wrong.
1898  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Discussion] Our Successor in Bitcoin Forum on: July 25, 2022, 08:29:51 PM
Have we ever thought on the sidelines of our minds being bored while in front of a computer/laptop/android and so on, who will continue our activities in this forum? If our answer is children, can they be as consistent as we expect?
When many members here were children, Bitcoin had very likely not been invented yet, so no one really expects children to take over the forum.
There is no point at which the current forum members would collectively abandon the forum, there are users of all ages here and there would be a slow transition as time goes by.

Can we hand over the account password and private key to access our Bitcoin wallet from now on?
Again, no one is handing over their private keys to children, and imo, no one should ideally be handing down their account password. Social platforms are not heirlooms which gets transfered or inherited.
1899  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: July 25, 2022, 04:31:18 PM
Same thing with Micheal Saylor. He has to prove his strategy valid, so he must keep this "Bitcoin Maximalist" stance in order not to scare Microstrategy's investors.
I think, investors should typically not be influenced by optimistic tweets, but rather figures. Saylor did share some figures recently about how Bitcoin coped when compared to other assets since microstrategy bought in; doesn't reflect their personal numbers, as they have bought at different times over the past months, but it shows the market is not as bad when compared with other markets.

This is why there is a constant stream of upbeat tweets.
IIRC, the plan was to hold for 100 years, so if the market goes well, he should not need to defend the investment after the next 5-10 years
1900  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: This is why Bitcoin is the only way on: July 25, 2022, 09:51:05 AM
I'm sorry but I do not totally agree with the OP's statement that Bitcoin is the only way. The world needs good governance and freedom from oppressive regimes. Bitcoin can't thrive in countries where the aforementioned variables are lacking. Besides, not everyone will adopt bitcoin.
You do have a point. In extreme cases like China, Bitcoin cannot offer a solution, cause it would not be allowed to thrive and citizens would not want to risk their safety using an illegal currency, which many of them cannot purchase due to regulatory bans.

But, in a general scope, Bitcoin is an avenue to bypass strich regulations. We saw that in Nigeria, where during protests (2020, in relation to police brutality) donations where sent in through bitcoins after the government clamped down on bank accounts of those involved in the peaceful protest. This has also been replicated in other countries as well.

We would never have a utopian society, but having an alternative like Bitcoin is a lifeline.

Several reports have debunked the viral video of the tanks saying that the video was actually filmed in Rizhao City in Shandong province and that  they believe the activity was a military exercise 1.
Could be attempts to cover the situation up to the public eye. I've seen a lot of oppressive governments to know that this is not beyond them.
