1901  Other / Meta / Re: Are the mods getting paid from this forum? on: June 14, 2013, 09:02:25 AM
Yeah not all is being paid out, only up to a certain percentage. Rest goes to the forum for whatever.

1902  Other / Meta / Re: Are the mods getting paid from this forum? on: June 14, 2013, 07:07:44 AM
Only admins can do that.
1903  Other / Meta / Re: Are the mods getting paid from this forum? on: June 14, 2013, 06:58:20 AM
Phone posting, so no quotes, but I'll try to answer the questions so far.

Yes, we get a percentage of ad revenue based on various factors now, which is fair since we spend a lot of time and energy keeping this forum usable and readable. Before only thing we got for our trouble was grief, which leads to burnout pretty quickly.

Donations are not used for this, transparency isn't necessary.

This is relatively new, when I said we do it for free, at the time we were, and had no idea this was coming.

Paraipan is a mod, local mod in Spanish board I think? All the local mods are included as well.

And no, there's no other threads about it, this is the first time I've seen it asked. Good job gage  Wink.
1904  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: FREE ASIC's! - moderator note: scam- on: June 14, 2013, 04:05:03 AM
I like the pic, good gosh, no wonder there is so many scamming incidents.  The scammers don't have to go after the "victims". Instead it is the "victims" begging to be scammed Smiley

And, forgive me for saying this, mods who allow these things to go on. Why is this thread still public?

Remove it and hide evidence? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Also look at how many people are still trying to get in on it, even with it saying it's a scam in the title. Some people are just too greedy and can't be helped.
1905  Other / Meta / Re: Spamming to get the Hero status and get trust on: June 14, 2013, 01:39:54 AM
Thumbs up. Another one trolling here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=125869

EDIT: Bigger thumbs up and sending a beer for that one Smiley

EDIT2: Oops, the thread starter deleted them. Have a beer anyway Wink

I banned this one.
1906  Other / Meta / Re: Question about the security of PM's on: June 12, 2013, 01:31:58 PM
I have some questions about the security of PM's. Are they stored on the server encrypted?

No, anyone with access to the server itself could read your pm's. PM privacy isn't, and can't be guaranteed by anyone.

It's entirely possible deleted pm's could be accessed using backups.
1907  Economy / Gambling / Re: 100% HIGH FREE JACKPOT! SD on: June 12, 2013, 11:41:15 AM
1 thread per site, locked.
1908  Other / Meta / Re: Is This Forum Degenerating? on: June 11, 2013, 06:35:07 PM

Some things are better left to the unknown.
1909  Economy / Marketplace / Re: TOGETHER WE CAN HELP !!! on: June 11, 2013, 02:01:06 PM
It might not be a scam but the lack of information on the website is going to put a lot off people of donating.

I'm no expert but I would have thought that at the very least there should be some contact details, a little about the backgrounds and experience of the people involved.

As has been said, the charity sector is very competative and difficult to break into. But transparency is a must.
For sure, thanks for the support!
I thought we don't need a page full of lies, I want to make this simple!
I don't need to scam people with small amounts of bitcoins, but as I said, maybe together we can do something!

Why would it need to be lies?
1910  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I was ripped off by a member of Bitcoin Forum and am being ignored by admin. on: June 11, 2013, 12:18:17 PM
I pm'ed Branzig, to see what exactly he was wanting us to do, because as people have stated this is just a forum, we aren't the cops and can't really do anything, but I figured I'd see what he wanted.

What is it exactly you'd like us to do?

How about killing yourself now? That would be a good start.

Gee, I wonder why you're getting ignored  Roll Eyes. Also not very nice for a self proclaimed nice guy.
1911  Other / Meta / Re: why dont the moderators care ? on: June 11, 2013, 06:20:59 AM
I have noticed this too, I only report people If they go WAY to far, but most of my reports are reported as " inacurate ". Strange. Maybe mods are too lazy to rate reports ?

Also I've NEVER seen a mod edit a post, or warn someone. I'm all for freedom of speech but cussing and swearing and threatening ... why is this allowed ? Why have mods at all then ?

Warning people publicly in threads where moderation is occurring is not a very effective way to moderate. It just puts the person on the defensive, which makes an amicable resolution much less likely. Then there will probably be a few pages of debate over the moderation itself, which is mostly pointless. It's best done in private, unless you enjoy drama, or meta type threads.

I also rarely edit posts, your posts are your posts, and they should stay that way. If a post is worthy of moderation, then I'd rather delete it outright than edit it.
1912  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Open letter to Theymos regarding Butterfly Labs (BFL) on: June 06, 2013, 02:25:49 PM

Now comes the denial. "oh it wasn't me"...ok sure whatever...next...
...
Oh what are you referencing when you claim I am for censorship when it benefits me?
...
 Tongue

Even that guy knows it wasn't me, says so in the op. You're too quick to jump to conclusions, it's a trend with you.

And I don't mean for profit, I don't think you're a bad guy smoothie  Wink.
1913  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Open letter to Theymos regarding Butterfly Labs (BFL) on: June 06, 2013, 12:49:21 PM
Why did you censor people based on nothing but your opinion when they warned about BFL fraudsters many months ago? You didn't just censor them. You've also locked the threads and have changed the titles to insult and mock them.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137026.0

That wasn't me, and I don't know the whole story but I don't really agree with those actions.

So I guess the following holds true:

1. If the mods of this forum disagree with mere individuals and their views on BFL and the BS they can mock/troll you, censor you, change the title of the topic, and lock topics that are in regard to BFL if they so please.

2. But if the same is true for a business like BFL, censoring is not an option when it comes to their opinions of said company.

DOUBLE STANDARD MUCH?

Pretty clear as day I'd say BadBear.  Cheesy

Two wrongs don't make a right, sorry smoothie, try harder.
It's funny that you're all for censorship when it benefits you though.

...

You were right, you shouldn't have bothered posting.

1914  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Open letter to Theymos regarding Butterfly Labs (BFL) on: June 06, 2013, 08:57:52 AM
1. So because they made a new website that they own and control and put up that they paid XX btc to Y party then it is all settled? Just take their word for it? Bullshit. Piratat40 could then easily put up on his website "PAID ALL MY INVESTORS BACK PLUS 7% WEEKYL INTEREST" in BIG BOLD letters and be free and clear of being a scammer right? Come on that is some fucked up logic.
It's progress. Proof that the money was given to charity can be provided at a later point within a reasonable time period. Charity organizations don't set themselves up instantly.

Here is my issue, despite all of the signs, the delays, lies, bullshit, etc, you as well as it appears the rest of the mods and theymos are giving BFL too much the "benefit of the doubt".

Even John K is skeptical about being an escrow for BFL chip batches. Doesn't that say something?

I suppose not.
Don't get me or the other mods wrong, we absolutely believe that BFL is mismanaged and is unlikely to deliver as promised, but that doesn't mean they are scamming anybody. Our personal opinions have no bearing on the matter.

Perhaps then it would be a good faith gesture to turn down any and all BFL advertisements on bitcointalk?

Seems fair given you folks don't believe BFL can deliver on their promises, the forum shouldn't be enabling more broken promises to be perpetuated.

Why should we censor a business based on nothing but our opinion? Like Maged said, our opinion is largely irrelevant.

I had written a VERY VERY long post about this issue but really

In regards to the mods and this

"GO SUCKIT"

Strong argument, thanks for your contribution.
1915  Other / Meta / Re: Change my username on: June 06, 2013, 06:44:41 AM
It is yes, pm theymos. Have you done any business here? That's one thing that could hold it up.
1916  Other / Meta / Re: [EXTORTION & THREATS] Now OK On Bitcointalk.org? on: June 06, 2013, 06:43:35 AM
Oh. I didn't see them. I guess it's fair.

I'm glad you didn't notice, means we're doing our job well Wink.
1917  Other / Meta / Re: [EXTORTION & THREATS] Now OK On Bitcointalk.org? on: June 06, 2013, 06:06:53 AM
That was way too funny to ban him Sad

He was definitely entertaining and cheered me up, the 20 threads consisting of a single letter, not so much.
1918  Other / Meta / Re: [EXTORTION & THREATS] Now OK On Bitcointalk.org? on: June 06, 2013, 04:57:15 AM
Banned and done.
1919  Other / Meta / Re: [EXTORTION & THREATS] Now OK On Bitcointalk.org? on: June 06, 2013, 04:07:59 AM
Somebody plug up the hole, alt currencies is leaking again.

I figured as much - which is why thanks to the mods and those who run this site allowing such things to happen, this site will soon experience what it feels like to be MT Gox.

Cause someone trolled your shitcoin? LOL
