1941  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer: Inaba on: May 29, 2013, 09:16:25 AM
I am generally not tagging scammers anymore. Use the trust system.
Do you know if Inaba sponsored this development?

Have you not seen the huge amount of scams lately? Especially alt coin related, there's far too many to keep going with the scammer tag system. It would be a full time 24\7 job to take care of them all. It's squarely in the hands of the users now, as it should be.
1942  Other / Off-topic / Re: Oklahoma Tornado victims and AT&T on: May 28, 2013, 04:25:00 PM
Well since I have never had to use phone insurance before, I thought it was dumb that "water damage" wouldn't be covered under an insurance policy when I heard this story. But you guys jumping to at&t's defense, I figure I best check since I guess you guys know the facts. Well I just looked over the insurance policy here:

http://ec2-174-129-175-61.compute-1.amazonaws.com/pdf/clientPDFs/documents/att/Terms-And-Conditions-MI.pdf

So you tell me? Because as far as I can tell, I can drop it in the toilet and then smash it and still be covered. Unless I'm missing something here?

Covered Incidents:

Lost, stolen, accidental physical or liquid damage,
mechanical and/or electrical malfunction after the
manufacturer’s warranty period has expired

Nice, water damage usually voids a warranty in my experience, they have little tabs inside them change color when they get wet so they can tell at a glance if it's been wet or not. I dunno then, I'd be inclined to think maybe the somewhere through the grapevine the actual stated reasons got mixed up or overly simplified, tends to happen.
1943  Other / Meta / Re: Trust option on: May 28, 2013, 08:48:12 AM
Trusted feedback is the feedback left by people in your trust network. It includes scammer feedback.

Anyone can leave untrusted feedback, which means it's easy to game with sockpuppets, so it's not counted in the score.

Anyone can left trusted feedback too by not adding anything in risked bitcoin option, I mean someone with multiple account can get trusted feedback by giving feedback to himself.

How? I don't think you understand how it works.
1944  Other / Off-topic / Re: Oklahoma Tornado victims and AT&T on: May 28, 2013, 04:00:37 AM
I see what you're saying, but the phones weren't "just water damage" like he dropped it in the sink. The phones were smashed to hell in a natural disaster. Any water damage had little to no effect on why the phones were now defective (we had massive rainstorms the day after the tornado hit). You can go outside and smash your phone on the ground and they will cover that.

The At&t store just used a loophole to not cover the phones; which is a slap in the face to a family that has lost almost all their material possessions in 1 day.

Yeah, but you can't drop it in the toilet, then smash it and expect it to be covered. Not saying that happened, just saying look at it from their perspective.

How can you read a thread and have a useful reply within 5 seconds?

Alt currencies is leaking again.
1947  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [TO THEYMOS AND MODS] BFL scammer tag? on: May 27, 2013, 01:30:59 AM
The conflict of interest here is disgusting. I am calling on the forum to pay back defrauded customers out of Bitcointalk advertising funds, up to and including the total amount paid by BFL. Considering they are profits from illicit activities (fraud), that their primary customer base was forum users here, the fact that Bitcointalk refuses to act to mitigate this damage makes me conclude that is is an equitable response given the additional fact that they are currently ACTIVELY COMPLICIT IN FRAUD. Have you ever considered that the forum might share legal liability in this? Chew on that for a couple of minutes.

Don't be dumb, if people want their money back from BFL all they have to do is ask for a refund. The complaints (as far as I can tell) are that they are taking too long to get the orders out, and they don't meet expectations, not that people can't get their money back.
1948  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [TO THEYMOS AND MODS] BFL scammer tag? on: May 26, 2013, 08:04:50 AM

The bet is another matter. I haven't looked into it yet.

Why not? There have been numerous threads detailing the lost bet.

I'm offering 1000 BTC on behalf of BFL regardless of what Tom does.

7 months later and still no donation. Why doesn't Inaba have a scammer tag?

Wait, so there was no counterparty?
1949  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 25, 2013, 06:58:28 PM
It doesn't become meaningless, it just turns from a blank slate to trusting the groupthink basically. At that point, it's just about pruning inappropriate feedback. You could trust *others* to prune it for you I guess and that would make much more sense for a "trust list" if you ask me. It'd basically be saying "I trust Theymos to prune this list of bullshit claims by scammer sockpuppets".

To me, being able to hear every single claim of scam or whatnot is better than potentially missing out on it just because I didn't know whose name to enter into my trust list to get access to that warning.

Nothing has been removed, you won't miss out on anything, unless you were hoping for a magic button that would tell you who's a scammer and who isn't. Scam accusations still exists for people to air their grievances. People will still post what a scam x is in any thread that doesn't pass the smell test, even if it does. Now people can also leave feedback for others. You can/will see this feedback regardless of trust (it's even sorted and categorized for you). Additionally, if you trust the person's opinion who left that feedback, you can add them to your trust list and the trust levels will be calculated for you based on that.

1950  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk trust list? on: May 25, 2013, 06:32:07 PM
See the textbox where you can enter people you want to trust there? Put a username in each line. If you put anything there, you will no longer trust DefaultTrust.

Hrm, interesting. Is there a way to trust someone, but not trust one of the people they trust specifically?

No, that would be nice though. Changing the trust level will do this, but not for a specific user, just each level.

1951  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 23, 2013, 06:49:38 AM
I like it, should work out well. Hopefully it can replace the scammer tag system, but it will probably still be needed sometimes.
1952  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: FAIL AUCTION Avalon Asic Batch 2 on: May 22, 2013, 03:45:20 PM
I can see why you might feel slighted, but I agree with ixne. Your word that you would buy it means very little, until you've flashed the cash or signed a contract.

Common to wait in the middle of an auction?  I'd say it's first paid, first served for a buy now option - otherwise a bidder could put in a buy now option under an assumed account and string the seller along until the auction closes.  In any case, unless the seller promises a certain amount of time to close I wouldn't expect my deal is safe until paid as a seller, and I wouldn't expect any promises from a seller unless the buyer has some credit to his name.

1953  Other / Meta / Re: Fake mod account? on: May 22, 2013, 12:31:07 PM
Account nuked already?

Could be "mod_btc" as in "mod_rewrite" through.

Nah, he hasn't posted anything yet.
1954  Other / Meta / Re: Ripple trying to take over the Bitcoin Discussion thread on: May 21, 2013, 12:02:34 PM
XRP threads go in Alt Currencies. Ripple threads go in Service Discussion. Easy. Now you know where to move your two threads. Thanks.

This is a good idea, along with the one discussing distributed exchanges to project development. Bitcoin Discussion should stay Bitcoin discussion, service discussion is probably relevant enough for ripple. Never liked moving them to alt currencies much cause it isn't really an alt currency, besides XRP itself.
1955  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 21, 2013, 11:32:12 AM
Looks pretty cool, however I'm not confident that this will reduce the amount of scams going on. Newbies seems to trust other newbies no matter how fishy it is.

I don't think anything will help those guys, some people just can't be helped.

Kinda like having kids and trying to keep them safe. You can tell em how dumb it is to touch x, but until they try it for themselves they won't really get it.

Done, cleaning up now.

Sig links are removed for newbies, due to spammers.
1958  Other / Meta / Re: Annoying "reputation" threads in off topic.... on: May 19, 2013, 11:45:38 AM
I think I got most of them, in off topic at least, there may be more scattered around.
1959  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: http://www.pyramining.com/ - Discussion thread (no advertising here) on: May 17, 2013, 04:04:52 PM
I think 79 months is too long for a 10-20% return. ASICs will help, but with ASICs comes increased difficulty so...who knows what the payback time will be.
thats way to long btc might go down by then anythinbg can happen thats 4-5 years plus 10-20% this company might not even be in business by then your basically giving away your money to a Huge Pit in my opinion.

Exactly my point. With the volitility of BTC I wouldn't want to tie up my coins for over 6 years just for a 10% return. And that's if everything goes as planned. As btchaver points out, there are a lot of things that can go wrong.

I agree. Historically, it would be far more profitable to just stick them in cold storage.

Can we stop making threads about mining altcoins in bitcoin mining?
