2141  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: how to transfer Ledger BTC to a new ledger wallet (anonymously) on: May 24, 2021, 03:31:23 AM
Perhaps I was not clear. The goal is to get the coins from point A to Point B without a trace. Do I have to spell it out any more clearly?? Lol.

If your friend's goal is privacy (from an ex or something along those lines,) she can merely send the funds to an exchange that allows HD addresses, like Coinbase.  Then she can reset her Ledger with a new seed (optional) and send the funds back.  They'll be nearly impossible to trace without a warrant.  Wink

If she needs more privacy than that, then a mixer might be a good choice.  See this post by theymos that has some excellent advice:

2142  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io "Soccer Blackjack" @ 21.00 odds on: May 24, 2021, 03:19:33 AM
I'm bummed that Arsenal didn't get that 7th spot, so close.  They did what they had to, but the Leicester didn't help them out.  Over all it was an exciting finish to the season with all the European league implications.  I didn't watch the Chelsea game live, so I was surprised when checking the scores.   I expected them to try harder for the third spot.

One more big game for City and Chelsea, and that's all until August.  At least I have Major League Soccer to keep me occupied until then.
2143  Economy / Exchanges / Re: CoinbasePRO Question on: May 24, 2021, 03:04:24 AM
I just set up a Coinbase PRO account; I already had a regular Coinbase account.
When I set it up, I saw that the bank account info I had set up in regular Coinbase synced over into the PRO account. I am trying to set up a limit order to buy Litecoin, but the system is telling me "Insufficient funds" as if it's not linking to my bank account. I never have this issue on regular Coinbase.

I know the funds are there. How can I resolve this??

Coinbase pro doesn't have an "instant-buy" feature like Coinbase does.  There's a big "Deposit" button on the main console on the right.  You have to deposit money from your bank account, then you can trade that for LTC.
2144  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Legacy address on: May 21, 2021, 07:03:42 PM
Just because bitcoin core doesn't have a certain feature it does NOT mean there is no standard for that feature. For example core doesn't support any form of mnemonic including BIP39 but that does NOT mean there is no standard for mnemonics!

Great point and excellent example.

I've already posted 2 "standards" for it above but since bitcoin core doesn't implement those people think there is no "standard".

I wasn't aware there were already BIPs covering segwit message signatures.  I suppose it would have been more accurate to say "there isn't a specific, established standard."  The fact that two BIPs exist might be the reason for delayed implementation.  I suspect you're right about most developers wanting to just copy and paste code from Core, that would make sense.  I can also understand the hesitancy to implement one, only to have Bitcoin Core implement the other at some later time, effectively making that the "standard."

2145  Other / Meta / Re: Propaganda and political operatives in PS sub on: May 21, 2021, 12:23:34 AM
There is a distinction between someone like whogivesafuck, and someone like someothershcmuck

I knew it.  All you're trying to do is extend your political debate into Meta.  It's not going to work, but I will say that if you're afraid of memes then your argument is shit.

We don't allow people to post about bcash in the bitcoin subs, claiming that bcash is bitcoin. We also don't allow inauthentic behavior that might artificially increase their threads or posts visibility.

Those are specific rule violations that exist because this is a Bitcoin forum.  If you want to discuss Israeli politics with those kinds of restrictions find yourself an Israel forum.
2146  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Legacy address on: May 20, 2021, 07:33:30 PM
Is it harder for some reason to sign a message using a segwit address than a legacy one?  I just signed a message yesterday from a native segwit address, and it didn't seem to be any more difficult--though it's been quite some time since I've had to sign something, and last time might have been from a segwit addy as well.

It's not any more difficult to sign a message with a segwit address, but it can be difficult to verify the signature.  There is no standard for segwit signatures, so software clients that allow you sign a message with a segwit address have implemented their own.  It's been my experience that a message signed in Electrum with a segwit address can only be verified by Electrum.

Bitcoin core allows messages to be signed only with a legacy address, or at least that's how V0.21.0 worked.  I haven't tried to sign a message with a segwit address using V0.21.1, but there's nothing in the change log that suggest this has been changed.
2147  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I have a multibit wallet and I don't see any funds on: May 20, 2021, 07:23:05 PM
I'm starting to suspect that the OP is confusing some terminology.

The term "wallet" is a general term, and it really consists of two parts; the public address and the private key.  If you have a paper wallet that looks similar to the photo posted by LoyceV, you should have both the public address and the private key on that piece of paper.  Since Blockchain.com told you that you need the private key to spend the bitcoin, I'm assuming you never actually imported the private key to Blockchain.com.  Blockchain and Multibit will allow to import the public address, which will allow you to view the transactions, but will not allow you spend the bitcoin.  That makes it a "watch-only" wallet.

My suspicion is that you imported the public address to these wallets, which allowed you to view the coins therein, but since you never imported the private key, you are unable to spend the coins.

The paper wallet should have two QR codes with text underneath them.  The public address will start with "1," and the private key will start with either "5", "L", or "K".  If you're phone will not recognize the QR code, you'll have to type out the private key manually.
2148  Other / Meta / Re: Propaganda and political operatives in PS sub on: May 20, 2021, 04:05:49 PM
I think it would probably not be best to remove the propaganda posts in question, but would probably be good to perhaps have warnings applied to posts linking readers to authoritative sources of information about the subject, so the readers can make their own unbiased judgments.

Freedom, or no freedom?  There's no grey area here.  Should people be able to say what they want on this forum, or should all posts be reviewed against QS's definition of propaganda?  Who gets to review the "Authoritative Sources" to determine whether they are valid, or if they are just spreading more propaganda?  Who gets to review the reviewers for bias?

My suggestion is that you engage in calm, rational discussions, provide references that support you position, recognize that your opinions are just as biased as your opponents, and allow others the same freedom.  You won't convince everyone.  You may not convince anyone.  Just don't take it personally.
2149  Other / Meta / Re: Propaganda and political operatives in PS sub on: May 20, 2021, 02:28:21 PM
I don't think he expects that.

I don't think he does either, I was being facetious.  I'm sure QS is smarter than that, hell PN7 is probably smarter than that, lol.  Grin

But I wasn't asking just to be a smart-ass; this is Meta.  If he is not asking for censorship, then what's the point of bringing up the issue in this section?  The only other reason I can see for it is to spread his political debates into a board were they're off topic.
2150  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: May 20, 2021, 02:05:18 PM
Predicting the return of Marquez to dominate is wrong, he has not been able to appear perfect.

It'll take some time for Marquez to return to top form, and there's plenty of season left.  It's unlikely he'll recover all of his speed, I've seen it too many times: Young buck with little regard for life and limb, takes a bad spill and loses a large part of his nerve.  It's only natural, but this is Marquez we're talking about.  I'm not a fan of Marc's.  In fact I've had a grudge against him since he cost Rossi the championship in 2015.  Nonetheless, I wouldn't count him out just yet.

2152  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Next Generation Hardware Wallet on: May 20, 2021, 01:40:19 AM
Security is, of course the most important factor to consider when choosing a hardware wallet.  That's the point of a hardware wallet in the first place; to keep your private keys off-line, and prevent them from being exposed.  Without that you may as well just use a PC to access all your coins.

Ease of use should be the second consideration.  A wallet that's difficult to use could cause the owner to make mistakes.  The number coins that a wallet supports is up to the individual, but the two major brands support a boat-load of coins.
2153  Other / Meta / Re: Propaganda and political operatives in PS sub on: May 20, 2021, 12:08:22 AM
It appears that terrorist propiganda is being posted in various P&S threads. Hamas is not only designated as a terrorist organization, but is also subject to OFAC sanctions.

The propaganda is not limited to one thread. There is another thread advocating for the mass murder of Jews whose replies contain pro-terrorism propaganda.

Anything can be called "propaganda," even sentiments that support your point of view.  You wouldn't propose censoring opposing arguments, would you?  Something tells me that you shouldn't hold your breath if that's what you expect.

If you see something that's in violation of the forum rules, report it.  Global mods are still monitoring reports from P&S.

2154  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Qt_5_PRIVATE_API not defined in libQt5Gui.so.5 with 4.1.2-x86_64.AppImage on: May 19, 2021, 10:52:51 PM
So I should rebuild libsecp256k1 and tell mageia team to build it properly, or more, to include it in its repository.

I kind of get it; people want a Windows-like experience from a free OS.  But, nothing worth having is "free," and a Windows-like experience would require and OS that... well, works.

Ditch that shitty fucking excuse for an OS.  If you want a Windowesque OS on a Linux distro, and have it actually work use Xubuntu Desktop.  Don't get me wrong; Xubuntu is still shit, but since it's essentially Ubuntu with the Xfce Desktop it works.

Actually, it is funny why anyone would give any credit to proudhon... the nincumpoop.

Everybody knows it's Elon's fault.

Well, I am still not going to call it a secular bear

I think I saw it facing Mecca and doing Raka3ats.
2156  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Israel is evil. Finish them off! on: May 19, 2021, 07:49:48 PM
The people of Israel are evil.

Bullshit!  The people of Israel are no different than any other people anywhere.  Claiming they are all evil does nothing to solve the issues plaguing both sides.  I'll admit I'm biased, because I'm of Palestinian ethnicity...

I've spent time in Israel and the West Bank (never been to Gaza,) and like anywhere on earth 99.9% of the people are peace-loving normal people.  And like any other conflict, the vociferous few make up the bulk of what we think we know about the conflict.

Israel has just attacked civilian buildings and even clinics.

Al Rimal Clinic 3h ago
These are buildings with Hamas terrorists and military equipment inside. The attacks were justified. Hamas is using residential areas to make it more difficult for the IDF to neutralize the terrorists without inflicting civilian casualties. The IDF takes many precautions to prevent civilian deaths.

My sister used to work for the UN, and was stationed in Gaza.  She's no fan of Israel (putting it mildly,) but she has said more than once that she did indeed find evidence of Hamas rockets having been fired from a hospital and a school.

If we want to have a rational, constructive discussion and solution we have to recognize Hamas for what they are; a terrorist organization who terrorize their own first.  Their tactics are specifically designed to result in civilian Palestinian casualties, because that's what they want in the news reports.  The Israeli military is not equipped to root out that type of insurgency, very few military organizations are, and therefore their options are limited.

I do believe that Israel is an apartheid state, and something should be done about it.  As an American, I think we should start by not giving Israel weapons.  I'd rather pay Nato to provide their protection.  As for a two-state or a single state solution; I imagine they'll be able to work it out amongst themselves if we protect them from Iran's or our influence.

I hope nobody placed a bet on Manchester United to win like me, they had 10,000 fans to support them and they couldn't win against relegated Fulham.
Now I wish they never win Europa League final against Villarreal and to finish in third place in league because they ruined my day  Angry

How much you lost because of their draw today?  Cheesy
In the last few games, they Manchester United play very poorly, maybe they’re just saving for that one game after all. There is no competitive motivation.
Yet it seems Solskjaer to be the weaker part of this team.

Yeah, I didn't even consider betting on ManU yesterday.  They got all they need out of the Premier League with that single point yesterday, they're locked into second no matter what happens now.  They can focus on Villareal and the Europa Cup, which seems to have been their motivation for the last couple of weeks, anyway.

ETA: I scored a nice win this morning, thank you sportsbet:

With some help Arsenal still has a chance of finishing 6th on the table.  Since ManCity and Chelsea are guaranteed a spot in ECL next year, and ManU could earn their spot as winners of the Europa Cup, will the selection for European leagues shift down the EPL table?  Just curious if Arsenal still has a chance for the Europa Cup.
2160  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum+EPS+Trezor - All connected but zero balance? on: May 19, 2021, 04:53:22 PM
Is there another software you would recommend? Just seen EPS talked about the most but open to other suggestions

I've only used ElectrumX, it appears to be the most common server implementation.  I've had it running for months without issue.  Configuration options require a bit of research, but once it's set up it's pretty bullet proof.  It requires a full node, unpruned, with txindex turned on, so it'll require quite a bit of diskspace for the whole setup.

I didn't use EPS to connect to my node and let Electrum choose another server. This helped balances populate.
Doesn't this ruin the entire purpose of EPS? To prevent connecting to other electrum servers?

I suggested he do that merely as an experiment to determine if the issue was with his EPS configuration.
