2541  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 13 Dead at mass shooting in California Bar on: November 09, 2018, 01:37:45 AM
It was reportedly a lone male shooter (no race released yet), 22 years old and known to police.  He avoided a 5150 hold last April, seems like the crisis worker didn't have enough to toss him in the looney bin back then.

Reports are he used a glock .45 cal, legally purchased weapon but used a modified mag (reports say the mod was to hold additional rounds).  Reports are the handgun was the only weapon used in the attack.

The nut job was found in an office in the bar with apparent self inflicted fatal wounds when the Police found him.

Police are searching his house now.

Motive and or connection to the scene are not known or being released ATM.

Why are women never the shooters in these cases?  I mean there are some psycho bitches that do some nutty shit but they don't generally get a gun and go on a shooting spree.

I'm actually currently writing a little report on gun control, and one of the biggest problems faced isn't that there isn't enough legislation (at least that's not the biggest problem) it's a failure of enforcement of CURRENT regulations by local / state governments.

But that's not really their faults to be frank, they're low on funding for these sorts of services and would probably need more of an incentive through government grants in order to ensure that they're submitting records to the FBI's background check system.

Cause this crisis worker should have (in theory) submitted this sort of record to the FBI's background check system, and he should have been denied weapons on the grounds of mental health. More information is below on laws relating to this, courtesy of the Giffords Law Center.

Licensed psychotherapists (California, Illinois, New York), law enforcement officials and school administrators (Illinois) must report mentally ill individuals who demonstrate violent behavior; these people become prohibited from possessing firearms.
2542  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump for Noose - Tax Fraud on: November 09, 2018, 01:32:53 AM
It's not tax fraud, it's paying for a great team of accountants that are able to use the code to your advantage. Do you want to know who makes the IRS tax code? - Congress.

Do you want to know who still makes the IRS tax code? Congress.

It's a place to give back to their voters and supporters, and that's how politics works sadly.

The midterms watch isn't over quite yet..
Little Marco seems to be hot on the case - https://twitter.com/marcorubio
Hope he has enough water..

I see that he hasn't stopped tweeting for some time, does anyone know if his claims actually have merit or if he's just doing this as a political stunt?

As I have seen a good deal of articles on the incompetency of the Broward County elections board.
2544  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Jeff Sessions Resigns at Trump Request on: November 08, 2018, 01:00:05 AM
Good, Sessions is a terrible person. I knew from the start that he'd be in Trump's initial administration, and I hated it. I hope he stays out of politics for good.

Trump's first priority in AG will be loyalty. Rand Paul has been careful to appear 100% personally loyal to Trump (while still expressing disagreements), and could conceivably be asked; while he's probably in a better position as senator, he'd be a very good AG.

I wouldn't be shocked if Trump picked one of his sons, even though that'd look super bad. Or Guiliani, maybe.

A really good political move would be to appoint a registered Democrat who has so far resisted the Russia hysteria. But it's unlikely.

Trump is bad at picking people, so the new AG might end up causing him the same issues. But it'll be difficult to find someone worse for the country than Sessions.

Hm. But going back to Sessions, he's probably one of the most unpopular picks ever (due to views on Marijuana, etc) Was a pretty dumb pick.

I mean I really can see the reasons for people thinking Giulini, but that seems like too large of a conflict of interest. It's pretty much the same one that Sessions had and caused him to recuse himself from the Russia investigation. This COI is the fact that they both have a bias towards Trump, and they both worked on the Trump campaign.

Of course, anyone he picks is going to have a tad bit of a conflict of ensuring the investigation is done without Trump fighting it -- but there is a way to attempt to limit this.

With that said, I could see Lindsey in the role -- he seems like a pretty solid pick and a loyalist to Trump.

Quote
Matt Whittaker is the interim AG.

You can see his position on the Mueller investigation he's been quite vocal about it.

Sessions just became a witness in the Mueller investigation haha!

Rosenstien is next? He's on his way to the WH for a pre-scheduled meeting.

Wednesday massacre?

Rosenstein is on the way out cause he wasn't working with the House GOP before. He slowwalked a good amount of paperwork. Maybe he'll salvage his job, maybe he won't. Who knows.
2545  Other / Politics & Society / Jeff Sessions Resigns at Trump Request on: November 07, 2018, 07:49:34 PM
Not surprised to see the news here.

Trumps AG has been asked to resign, and he has resigned. This is after a pretty open knowledge of the two not getting along and Trump publicly berating his AG -- who he felt wasn't on the same page as him and was hostile towards Trump.

This is breaking news at the moment article is here - https://www.wsj.com/articles/attorney-general-jeff-sessions-resigns-from-trump-white-house-1541619893

I think a President should have everyone within their cabinet that they want there, it doesn't make sense to have this sort of infighting.
2546  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2018 Midterms Watchparty! on: November 07, 2018, 06:40:50 PM
Honestly, even though the GOP did lose the house -- this was expected to happen due to the location of the house races (suburbs, tough area for GOP in this day and age) It's going to be some time until we know how large the house majority is, but I don't expect it to be too large -- that's a slim majority that had a good deal of moderates elected in it.

The blue wave never came, and GOP made gains in the Senate. Divided government, though GOP still has the Supreme Court, The Senate, and The Presidency.

It's a bit more complicated than that. 98 million total votes counted so far. This most closely reflects the popular vote. Democrats are +4% (51.2 vs 47.2). It might go up a little bit. Their house majority so far is ~2% - the difference is mostly due to gerrymandering, which is slowly being defeated via ballot initiatives and court cases so next election might be slightly less lopsided.

Not everyone voted in the Senate races (only 1/3 is up for reelection). 72 million total votes counted so far. Most of those up for reelection were Democratic Senators. So it's really hard to gauge the impact. The big loss is (likely) Florida but as Phil mentioned there is a ballot initiative there that might change the balance.

36 governor races. 81 million votes counted so far. Democrats flipped 7. Republicans flipped 0. May impact redistricting in 2021.

46 state legislature elections. I just started digging into those so not sure what's going on there but it looks like Democrats flipped a handful, which may impact redistricting in 2021.

Overall a shitty day for Republicans. Perhaps less shitty than they feared but they got kicked quite brutally in the suburbs, which used to be their base.

Ballot initiatives (not 100% verified, just bits collected from the news reports):

Redistricting reform passed in Colorado and Michigan.
Same-day voter registration passed in Maryland.
Voter ID passed in Arkansas and NC.
Medicaid expansion passed in Nebraska, Utah, Idaho.
Recreational weed passed in Michigan, failed in ND.

Gerrymandering is always going to be a problem unless we can find a new alternative to it (I haven't researched the topic, so I'm just stating that) As the party in power during redistricting is going to try to do this -- both sides of the aisle.

The legislatures are going to be the big deal with the district drawing btw, not the governor mansions.

Of course, this isn't a good day, losing the house is never good. But the Speaker Ryan House wasn't one which was benefitting Trump too greatly anyway -- we were severely hampered by him being a RINO. We'll see what a Divided government does I suppose. But this was a lot better than a blue wave coming in.
2547  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Giving Bitcoin as a gift on: November 07, 2018, 06:37:59 PM
Please don't send her bitcoin with a Coinbase account, set her up with a simple online web wallet (which is going to fit her needs fine) Or if you want to get a little more into it, then you should go ahead and get her a hardware / paper wallet and hold it for her. I'd only suggest this cause I doubt she's going to know what to do with it / actually go ahead and use it anyway.

Bitcoin is a wonderful gift, though I don't think your niece is going to use it at all as of yet.
2548  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2018 Midterms Watchparty! on: November 07, 2018, 06:06:12 AM
The country may be too far gone to see a conservative pop vote anymore.. Sad, but the states will still vote conservative often, senate and Ec, because we aren't all corrupted yet..

It's pretty hard to believe so many people are still willing to hand power to leftists seeing all the shit they have pulled recently.. Free stuff for yourself at the expense of your country is powerful I suppose.. Importing more every day..
Their quest for ultimate power is still in full force.. The Trump election may have just been a temporary reprieve of the downfall of the west, back to business as usual..

You're tremendously mistaken:

Honestly, even though the GOP did lose the house -- this was expected to happen due to the location of the house races (suburbs, tough area for GOP in this day and age) It's going to be some time until we know how large the house majority is, but I don't expect it to be too large -- that's a slim majority that had a good deal of moderates elected in it.

2549  Other / Politics & Society / 2018 Midterms Watchparty! on: November 06, 2018, 06:54:25 PM
I'd like to make this the mega thread for all midterm related / watch party talk. We all may have our own views on certain things, but tonight (and leading into tomorrow) is going to be when we'll see what actually happens from these months of campaigning.

I'll post some exit polls on here when they come out, I'd like for people to post what they think is going to happen and resources relating to polls/counting of votes / etc.

I personally think that if the Democrats do win the house, the majority is going to be VERY small. The Republicans are going to keep the Senate, and this is going to be a divided government.

If that's not the case, then I think that  GOP keeps the House and Senate with small margins.

Now everyone else!
2550  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Someone hacked my bittrex account - will I get the BTC back? on: November 06, 2018, 06:18:39 PM
I'd continue to push this problem on here, other areas of the forum, then Reddit, and so on and so forth. The only thing that's going to help you is contacting the Bittrex support team -- but the only way you're going to get in contact with people quickly is going to be pushing the issue on social media.

Good luck, and I hope everything works out!

REMOVED- sorry

Any chance I could get a reasoning on the removal? Seems like I was just removed out of the blue.

Already started posting and such too.

https://bpip.org/smerit.aspx?from=T%20o%20x%20i%20c%20a%20l&to=bezdonov

This is the only user that appears to have interacted with him using Merit.

However, based on his activity, it is likely that it was airdropped merit, rather than received by anybody.

You are correct. There are no merit sources because he became a member before the introduction of merit and he got 10 merit for free, based on the level of his account.
He sent 1 merit but did not receive any.

Took a glance at his recent posts. He won't be getting merit anytime soon if he keeps spamming P&S like that.

I never really understood people thinking that P&S is of some sort of lesser quality on this forum. I would honestly think that the discussions going on at Politics and Society have a lot more meaning them conversations that occur in the Bitcoin Discussion, Services, Economics, etc.

Where these sections are mostly just a circle jerk about Bitcoin.

P&S is people going back and forth on certain subjects, it at least seems more lively.
2553  Economy / Economics / Re: No Crypto Taxes Until 2030: Proposes New Ukrainian Bill on: November 06, 2018, 03:09:20 AM
The bill that has been introduced in the Ukrainian parliament which proposes a halt on cryptocurrency taxation of any nature in Ukraine until the end of 2029, would definitely be something all crypto people would get behind. The questions is, how does cryptocurrency taxing work? And is there a fair way around it?

Taxation on our earnings in crypto is way better than closing the flow of crypto in a country. Taxation on cryptocurrency will have a big help to the economy in a nation because it will boost the income  and the infrastructure build-up. I don't think that taxes in crypto should be stopped.

This just isn't true in the least, Crypto taxes are going to be a pretty small part of ANY countries tax inflows (revenues) so I wouldn't be saying that just because there's Crypto taxes the government is going to be able to do certain things. (And even anyway, governments mismanage money all the fucking time)

Capital Gains on taxes and crypto work the same way, don't know why people get so butthurt about them.
2554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the profit margins on Bitcoin Atms? on: November 05, 2018, 03:09:06 PM
I don't own one, but I came across this piece that discusses their operating costs:

http://www.coinatmfinder.com/blog/easily-can-set-bitcoin-atm-business/

It didn't tackle income or any usage stats of existing Bitcoin ATMs, but it does say that the average transaction cost is around 5.2%, so your gross income would probably amount to 5.2% of your total transactions.

This site has actual stats:

https://coinatmradar.com/blog/bitcoin-atm-profitability-part-2-real-examples/

Good luck!

This is probably going to be it, thanks for this information.

Everyone else just seems like they're spamming random bullshit about bitcoin ATMs and such.
2555  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Trump is a Racist on: November 05, 2018, 01:12:02 AM
I mean, honestly, I think he's a pretty bad racist. If people think this guy is a racist, then I'm beyond confused. This is a guy that was LOVED by prominent civil rights activities for his charitable contributions and such. He was given awards upon awards.

As President, he's raised wages for minorities and we're seeing record minority unemployment. I don't know what you could ask for from a President, honestly.
2556  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What are the profit margins on Bitcoin Atms? on: November 05, 2018, 12:50:46 AM
I've heard some exorbitant fees are being charged by the people that own these Bitcoin ATMs (which are probably a huge turn off to people, but then again if people are willing to pay for it then so be it) But I wanted to know if anyone on here actually owned one and could provide some insight into the amount of money that can be made by owning one of them, two of them, etc.

Let me know!

2558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There will be a global cryptocurrency, but not bitcoin says EX Goldman Sachs on: November 04, 2018, 11:35:40 PM
We all know that this idiot is completely wrong and that bitcoin will be the global currency. However, on the off chance that he is correct i bet it's price will be dependant on bitcoin so it's the same either way

I wouldn't be so sure of that, you're completely saying that all governments around the world are going to cave their economic power to bitcoin and allow it to be decentralized. That's not something I can see in the least, maybe I'm a pessimist, but I would think that governments fight a LITTLE harder than that.

They've had this power for so long, do you think they're going to give it up to us just like this? Come on.

Governments (and businesses) could completely ruin Bitcoin by buying a mass amount of mining equipment and running a 51 percent attack. They've thought about it, and I think that if they would ever need to -- they would.
2559  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN AND LITECOIN NOW ACCEPTED AT THIS NEW JERSEY ITALIAN RESTAURANT on: November 04, 2018, 10:01:48 PM
I never understood people posting stuff like this. Yes, it's wonderful that people may or may not use bitcoin at this one small restaurant -- but this is such a small scale adoption that it's not even going to come close to changing anyones lives. Yes, maybe one or two people in the area will use bitcoin. But is that the adoption we're striving for?

We should be shooting for the stars folks, not going for the small mom and pop shops that aren't going to help anyone except some around them. We need grubhub, uber, etc etc.

Come on folks.
2560  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Who pays trading fees on exchanges ? on: November 04, 2018, 09:44:27 PM
On most exchange isn't the market maker that pays the fees but the market taker. Although some exchange like  GDAX both marker and taker pays a fee. On bittrex and binance, When you place an order (be it buy or sell) at the current market price that gets filled immediately, you are considered a taker and will pay a fee. If your order does not go through immediately, then you don’t pay a fee because you're a market marker. Now if partial order get filled (you pay fee for that) and the rest of the order is placed on the order book and, when matched, is considered a maker order which you don't pay for.

This is going to be all you're going to need.

Just make sure to use the coins that are going to save you the most in fees (on Binance, you're going to be able to use the Binance Coin and save 50 percent on fees, I think that's a pretty solid deal)

So, the users.
