261  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New crypto scam drains users' wallets without transaction approval(beware). on: February 28, 2024, 05:44:17 AM
I am not too familiar with ERC-2612 tokens and the concept of gasless token transfers so I had not really considered the possibility of this kind of attack. Whenever a website asks for a signature to log in I don’t really think twice about it but I will be more careful from now on.

Since these types of transfers still require gas to be paid by whoever spends on your behalf, using the signature you provided, I can’t see too many dapps using this but it is something which will be appealing to scammers who can sacrifice a bit of gas in order to steal users’ funds.
262  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it ethical to break your gambling rules on: February 28, 2024, 04:59:19 AM
Setting up limits for yourself can be a good safety net that prevents you from suffering some serious losses. If you are not sticking to those limits perhaps you should analyze whether those limits are too strict for your economic situation and if they can be loosened a bit. If they are not too strict and you are just being reckless then that is problematic and you should consider quitting gambling entirely until you are capable of better self control.
263  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The shocking rate of women interested in gambling. on: February 27, 2024, 05:59:54 AM
It’s not remotely shocking that women are interested in gambling. Maybe if you live in a really conservative country it is rare to find women at casinos but it’s not uncommon in more progressive countries. Women are just as capable as men in gambling because it’s not something that is physically demanding. It also doesn’t require sophisticated knowledge so the barrier for participation is extremely low. The idea of winning a life altering sum of money is something that would be enticing to anybody regardless of gender. Women do tend to be less likely to take risks, that’s why men are the majority of gamblers, but gender stereotypes and expectations change with time and I expect to see an increasing amount of women in gambling.

And it just shows that even the WBC or PBC can't forced Canelo on who to fight too. Could be the reason as well why him and Oscar separated years ago, but in the end, he can't escape Benavidez if that is what he wanted.

Berlanga will be the likely next boxer he will face, not Mexican, but Puerto Rican and so they can used the tagline again of Mexico vs Puerto Rico.

And Berlanga won his recent fight, https://www.bbc.com/sport/boxing/68396219

For sure though, Canelo will take a lot of heat and fans will disapproved this decision of Canelo to move out from PBC and then face soft opponents.

Before the problems with Oscar, Canelo also had legal problems with All Star Boxing who is a small promotion from Florida that promoted some of Canelo’s early fights. There was also that dispute with the WBC when they tried to make him fight Golovkin, who was his mandatory. He also had problems with Televisa, which led him to defect to TV Azteca. It is a pattern of entitlement and seeking special treatment which unfortunately the promoters, sanctioning orgs, and tv networks keep going along with.

I watched Berlanga’s fight over the weekend and was not impressed. McCrory was an awful opponent who couldn’t defend himself and had barely any technical ability in his offense. Somehow it got sanctioned as a title eliminator by the shady WBA at the last moment, which makes me think Eddie Hearn was aware of Canelo’s plans of leaving PBC and is trying to line up Berlanga for him.
265  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: February 26, 2024, 04:26:30 PM
What started as a rumor is now being confirmed by ESPN. Canelo is leaving PBC. Canelo was insisting on fighting Jermall Charlo but PBC wanted a better quality opponent. It is likely Canelo will go back to DAZN, where he will be safe from Benavidez and fight softer opposition like Munguia and Berlanga.
266  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Donald Trump's stance on Bitcoin is changing on: February 26, 2024, 04:17:20 AM
Cryptocurrencies in general attract the attention of grifters so it would not be surprising that Trump is beginning to speak more positively about Bitcoin after making millions from his NFT collections. Trump is only pro-Bitcoin as long as it’s possible to make money from shitcoins. It’s no different from Brian Armstrong saying he supports Bitcoin despite Coinbase taking actions that are hostile towards Bitcoin. Armstrong and Trump may not care about Bitcoin but they need it to continue existing and being seen as legitimate by regulators because it enables them to continue promoting their own shitcoinery without much obstruction.
267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Accidentally lost funds on channel opening: Seeking Assistance on: February 26, 2024, 03:48:09 AM
I was going to suggest you create an issue on GitHub but I see that you have already done that. https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/8915

They also have a developer who is present in the forum ghost43, but they are not very active.

When you pushed the 1.5 million sats to their side of the channel it gave you inbound capacity, so it should be trivial for them to send the sats back to your side if they choose to help you.

268  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul VS Ryan Bourland Cruiserweight 8 Rounds March 2 on: February 26, 2024, 02:59:00 AM
Another cannon fodder type of opponent for Jake Paul to feast on and pad his record with an easy win. At least he isn’t fighting washed up MMA fighters anymore and has moved on to part-time boxers. This should just be a tune-up before he rematches Tommy Fury. These types of fights won’t give Jake credibility amongst knowledgable boxing fans, but his fanbase isn’t exactly known for having the brightest minds.

As long as he can continue to generate revenue we will eventually see either the WBA or WBC give him an opportunity to fight for a title. As we have seen recently, merit is secondary to these sanctioning bodies who place profit above all else.
269  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Jerwin Ancajas vs Takuma Inoue - February 24 on: February 24, 2024, 09:00:06 PM
Naoya Inoue being one of the best fighters has really invigorated Japanese boxing which is having a great moment with multiple champions across several divisions. He is having a similar impact to what Pacquiao had on Filipino boxing. This card was a great showcase for these 3 Japanese fighters who defended or conquered championships in impressive fashion.

Jerwin Ancajas was once an exciting young champion with very high expectations but sadly he did not live up the hype and has had some disappointing results in recent years. He lost by knockout for the first time ever and it is looking like his days of being considered one of the top challengers may be over.

For Takouma Inoue, it would be great to see him unify against Nakatani. It’s the best fight that can be made in this division.

I'm not sure what happened but this is the explanation I got from TheQuin

"As a general observation when 2 outputs on the same transaction are sent to the same deposit address the first is processed immediately and then the server has to go back and reread the transaction before it processes the second one. That causes a delay in the second one showing up which often causes people to incorrectly think they only got one."

- It seems to me that TheQuin is inviting you to contact the side from where you sent the satoshis. Not sure, but i read that.

The problem is not with the sender. It is either that Freebitco.in didn’t credit one of the outputs or they did but the user thinks they didn’t because there is only 1 transaction hash in their deposit history. I’ve had two deposits batched together in a single transaction before and they were both credited but I used a different address for each deposit.

DeFi exchanges, as you call them, don’t take custody of user’s funds
Can you prove it? From my experience with DeFi, the software is closed-source. You can export private keys and the like, but you can't know with certainty if another entity holds your keys as well. And in my opinion, if another entity holds my keys, it isn't self-custodial, regardless of what I do.

Uniswap which is the biggest DEX, and the one which most other DEXs base their code on has been open source from the beginning. Starting from V3, their code was released under a business source license which meant it can be reviewed but not copied for commercial use until after 2 years when it becomes open source.

Nobody holds the keys to your wallet but you do have to give permission for smart contracts to pull a specified amount of funds from your wallet. By default the limit is usually set to allow an infinite amount of funds that can be used by a specific contract. If the contract is immutable and developers renounced ownership, which can be done by setting the owner to a burn address, then there is very minimal risk of getting rugpulled.

The WBC president uncle Mauricio has also appeared to change his mind on David Benavidez's next opponent.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said this Thursday through his social networks that David Benavidez's next opponent will not be Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez as had been said in recent hours, and that the interim light heavyweight championship will be disputed by the American fighter of Mexican descent and the Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

Source https://www.marca.com/en/boxing/2024/02/23/65d896bdca47411a698b45b4.html

They are having a hard time keeping their story straight. Whatever comes out of the mouth of Sulaiman is likely just damage control. They don’t want to upset Canelo because they don’t want to lose their percentage of his purse. They will most likely continue to allow Canelo to evade Benavidez for as long as he pleases.

I don’t believe the $55 million offer was real. It’s just something that Lewkowicz put out there to get some publicity for Benavidez’ next fight. Sampson’s word isn’t very credible and he’s defaulted on purse bids before so where would he even get that kind of money to offer Canelo. PBC isn’t getting much of a budget from Amazon if all their cards are going on PPV, so Haymon can’t make those kind of guarantees either. It would be more money than what Canelo made against GGG, Canelo vs. Benavidez isn’t close to that magnitude.
273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do we even need bitcoin mixers? on: February 24, 2024, 05:30:55 AM
I think one of those rug-pull decentralized exchanges is Swaprum’s that did a rug-pull exist and stole funds of the users.
That was a DeFi exchange, not a decentralized. No truly decentralized exchange offers farming rewards, staking pools, referral programs and a shit-token called SARP. And as already said, if an exchange is decentralized, it does not take custody.

DeFi exchanges, as you call them, don’t take custody of user’s funds but you do have to trust that there isn’t any backdoors or undiscovered bugs in their smart contracts. They might have ponzi-like aspects to them but they are still decentralized.

100% true. People should have learned their lesson about "mixing sites" a long time ago. Coinjoins keep your funds and data safe, so there's absolutely no excuse for anyone to use/promote/operate a "mixing site".

There was this story from last week where a user claims to have lost 15 BTC on Unijoin. He was given a letter of guarantee with a fake signature, that he didn’t bother to verify like most users of mixers, which makes it nearly impossible to prove he was even scammed.
https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=317783.0

All the people with mixer advertisements in their signatures are making excuses and trying to gaslight the user by saying they weren’t actually scammed. Even if the user is lying for whatever reason, this is still an inherent vulnerability present in any custodial mixing service. No amount of signature payments is enough to make this danger go away.
274  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] David Benavidez vs. Olexandr Gvozdyk interim WBC Championship on: February 23, 2024, 05:17:38 PM
David Benavidez’ promoter Sampson Lewkowicz has posted this update stating that PBC has offered Canelo a guarateed $55 million to fight Benavidez. If Canelo declines then this fight against Gvozdyk will go ahead. Since it’s not official yet, I will lock the thread and wait for Canelo to make up his mind.

Update: Sampson has deleted the tweet about the $55 million offer. Benavidez has confirmed on Instagram that his next fight is against Gvozdyk.
275  Economy / Gambling / Re: Freebitco.in - FUN Token Investment Experiment on: February 23, 2024, 03:26:13 AM
What were the benefits back then?
I bought FUN token recently because price was low and too good for the additional benefits. I think such a low price should attract new users because at the moment benefits are really good for the money that you pay to hold FUN and get tier rewards.

Originally the odds of winning the 5k sats and RP prizes from the wheel of fortune was 1.3% for each, but then they were reduced to 0.1%. After the token started losing value it was understandable why they would reduce it to keep the program sustainable but it still left a bitter taste.

The base prize on the wheel also used to be fixed at 50 sats, then they changed it to 2 cents worth of sats, then it was 2 cents minus 1 satoshi and gradually they’ve continued decreasing it by 1 satoshi — it is currently 21 sats, which is 2 cents in BTC minus 18 sats.
276  Economy / Gambling discussion / [Boxing] David Benavidez vs. Olexandr Gvozdyk interim WBC Championship on: February 23, 2024, 12:10:11 AM
Earlier today, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced that David Benavidez will be facing former light heavyweight champion Olexandr “The Nail” Gvozdyk for the interim championship. Artur Beterbiev is still the real WBC champion and currently active. It seems like they are only creating this belt for Benavidez as a way to save face for not being able to enforce his mandatory status against Canelo, who is very obviously avoiding Benavidez.

Gvozdyk is a fighter with an excellent record. His only loss has come against Artur Beterbiev. After the loss, he took a 3 year break from the sport and came back last year. He is now 36 years old and his comeback fights were against mediocre competition. I think these factors will make Benavidez the favorite in this fight.

I’m really interested in seeing what Ashtray from Euphoria can accomplish as a professional. BoxRec says he already had 1 pro fight already but I couldn’t find any video and the March 2 fight is being advertised as his debut. He already has the fame and money so we will see how serious he is about boxing. I’m thinking he’ll probably turn out like Ryan Garcia, where he might be good but not quite good enough to be world champion.
278  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Beterbiev vs. Bivol - Undisputed Light Heavyweight Championship on: February 21, 2024, 10:11:40 AM
I have little knowledge about dopings but Beterbiev was given the go signal which means he passed the VADA test. And I believe VADA is the strictest when it comes to doping tests.

Maybe they saw something not normal in Beterbiev's body but still not illegal. What I heard from the past though is that the Russians have the best laboratories and technology when it comes to hiding doping substances. Same reason why Russia was blocked during the last Olympics.

Anyways, hopefully, both fighters are clean and the fight must go on. It's just a shame Beterbiev only has the chance for the undisputed at this stage of his career. He won against Usyk in the amateurs and gave him hell during their 3 encounters which saw the Ukrainian legend struggle, knocked down, and hurt even with helmets on.

Beterbiev lives and trains in Canada. I am not concerned about possible doping simply because of his nationality. He is a freak athlete, which is rare for a 39 year old, but so is LeBron James who is the same age. People having suspicions about one athlete but not the other seems like a double standard.

The atypical finding in Beterbiev’s result is a non-issue, that only got as much attention as it did is because Eddie Hearn was trying to make it seem like a big deal. Of course, if the shoe was on the other foot and one of his fighters had an atypical result he would’ve been downplaying it like he has with Whyte, Benn, and Baumgardener, who are probably actual cheaters that have been let off the hook due to Matchroom’s cozy relationship with sanctioning organizations.
279  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FixedFloat has been hacked (26M $) on: February 21, 2024, 09:22:58 AM

In a subsequent statement, FixedFloat assured customers their funds were safe, clarifying that the financial losses impacted only the service itself and not user-held assets. "FixedFloat does not perform the functions of a custodial service—that is, it does not store user funds. We will provide more information later," the platform tweeted.
Is this true, does FixedFloat really “do not store user funds”? As far as I know, all centralized exchanges use user funds and do not isolate exchange assets from user assets, especially those that are not subject to regulatory laws.

FixedFloat said that it will fulfill all payment obligations as soon as it resumes its operations, but of course they did not specify a time for that, and until that time, user funds will remain stuck. I hope that the exchange’s words are true and that user funds have not been affected.

FixedFloat is an instant exchange like exch.cx. You can use it without creating an account. The only users who would have lost money would be those who were in the process of swapping or receiving a refund.

I’ve used them several times since they are one of the few exchanges with lightning support but the recent controversy they had with a user on the forum, where they were asking invasive questions about the source of their funds, made me skeptical about using them again.
280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the rules for finding wallets on: February 20, 2024, 04:26:20 AM
There is no law against private key collisions but the possibility of you miraculously finding the keys to someone else’s wallet is so infinitesimally small that it would be assumed you hacked their wallet. If the other person received funds from a KYC exchange then they could prove they are the rightful owner and you might face legal consequences if they ever managed to track you down.
