3002  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Proper way to use JoinMarket's sendpayment starting from a cold wallet? on: December 23, 2022, 05:17:13 PM
I don't think this is possible directly from cold wallet, but I am following development in JoinMarket and there are some positive signs for developing easy to use web interface for JoinMarket.
Maybe you could try asking this question on reddit r/joinmarket or some other JoinMarket dedicated space.
3003  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is cloud mining profitable in 2022? on: December 23, 2022, 04:43:07 PM
Cloud mining was never profitable for anyone else other than person who created this snake oil scheme.
I know some of the biggest cloud mining companies stopped existing and they owners got arrested, Hasflare is the last example, and that is all you need to know about this.
Cloud mining is more like pyramid scheme and people who send money last will usually lose everything, so stay away from this and don't send them any money.
3004  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Introducing Cypherock X1, World's first hardware-based MPC Wallet on: December 23, 2022, 03:19:28 PM
PIN in our case is never stored on the device, it stored on the X1 cards that are EAL 5+ certified. The share on the device is encrypted too which is decrypted only when the card is unlocked. Hence, even if someone hacks the device, they cannot brute force the PIN.
Interesting.
So can you tell us what exactly is stored on actual Cypherock device?
There must be some data and information about accounts, history, transactions, so I wonder is that stored on device or also on cards?

I get the point that you wanted to achieve simplification with PIN code, but watching all Cypherock review videos I still think it's a bit complicated to handle and tap all those cards multiple times.
Few more negative things I noticed about Cypherock X1 and I want to see this being added in future, there is no support for Multisig, no support for full Bitcoin node, no signing messages, only one account for coin, and no coin control.
3005  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Privacy wallets on: December 23, 2022, 02:55:54 PM
I would like to know if some open source wallets like Electrum have their own servers to do that job or if they work with the public nodes of the bitcoin network.
I'm also interested to know if there are any hardware wallets that do that. If not, I would like to know if there is a way to check the balance of an address using the btc network and not a blockchain explorer, for example with some node calls running btc core.
Very good alternative for Electrum is called Sparrow Wallet.
This is open source wallet that respects your privacy and it can be connected easily with your own Bitcoin node.
There is detailed built-in transaction viewer, wallet has great support for hardware wallets and there is  coinjoin mixing with Whirlpool.
One more way you can check balance of your address is to use open source mempool.space with your own Bitcoin node.

3006  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need everything about Cold wallet on: December 23, 2022, 02:38:15 PM
I've hear people talk about Cold wallets few times before so this question come straight from the mind, are Cold wallet safer than Hardware wallets? Also Binance CEO said Cold wallets are not really safe like people think.  So what am I not getting right?
Oh if CEO master CZ said that than it must be (not) true  Roll Eyes
Cold wallets are not connected to internet or other computers and that is very similar with hardware wallets or signing devices.
They are safe if you use them correctly, but people can make anything unsafe including cold wallets, it's enough if they expose private key or seed words.
Best wallets for me are airgapped devices like Passport, Keystone, Coldcard, SeeSigner etc, or Bitcoin dedicated offline laptop with Electrum wallet installed.
If you want portability and use of use than I would choose airgapped hardware wallets.
3007  Other / Meta / Re: QR code integration on profile for address & PGP key? on: December 23, 2022, 02:17:00 PM
For QR codes, it will be error free as long as user has entered the wrong address.
QR codes are not error free, and it could make people lazy to blindly trust some image instead of checking and visually confirming address.
I don't think adding QR codes is a bad idea, but I already saw people are using QR codes for scamming so I would be very careful adding this functionality to bitcointalk forum.
I understand QR codes can be useful, but I don't understand or approve that now we need to use QR codes everywhere and in all areas of our lives.

How often do you do this? And even if you do, how often do you browse on your desktop and use your mobile to make a transaction? Most of the time I copy paste addresses on my desktop into my desktop wallet.
Almost never, or I can't remember last time I did it.
This could be usable if most of the users are browsing bitcointalk with some moblie app, but I think that majority of users are using mostly desktop computer.
3008  Other / Meta / Re: Avatar for another membership? on: December 23, 2022, 02:12:22 PM
Only avatar is good to represent a company brand. They have bitcoins so why they are not allowed to use their bitcoins ?
Maybe they don't want to spend their bitcoins like this when they can pay other members to wear avatars for them with much bigger reach.
For any long term company members it wouldn't be such a big deal to increase rank and get free avatar support in time, instead of paying for shortcuts like this.
Copper membership is increasing functionality of newbie accounts and that is not the case with your propositions for avatars.
Additionally, Theymos already said that forum doesn't need more funding resources for anything.
3009  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vexl - New private Bitcoin marketplace by Satoshilabs? on: December 22, 2022, 10:31:08 PM
I was checking the Trezor hardware wallet webpage today (since there was a new update available for their software), I decided to explore the web and I realized Satoshilabs listed a new project I had never heard about before.
I can't anything about this in Trezor Suite software, but I like the concept of no-kyc and look of Vexl app.
It looks like they are currently oriented mostly towards Czech republic because their twitter account is written fully in Czech langauge.
I don't like vexl is asking for phone number for registration, but maybe temporary numbers could be used or newest anonymous numbers released by telegram.
One cool thing about Vexl - they are open source software:

3010  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is difference between Wrapped Bitcoin and Bitcoin? on: December 22, 2022, 10:20:10 PM
I was curious that what is difference between the Wraped Coin vs Bitcoin.
Wrapped bitcoin is not really a Bitcoin and it's just made up tokens on some centralized shitcoin blockchains that can be frozen at any time, or gone to zero because of some exploit.
Situation is similar with stablecoins and fista currencies like dollar, and we already saw many stablecoins stop existing and wild swings in their price.
I would stay away from using any fake bitcoin wrapped tokens, and only alternative is using Bitcoin second layers for this, so you will not depend on other coins.

3011  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Introducing Cypherock X1, World's first hardware-based MPC Wallet on: December 22, 2022, 10:07:27 PM
PIN Backups which are 4-8 character long can be hidden indistinguishably anywhere. As compared to seedphrase backups which are exponentially much more difficult to hide.
PIN code is saved on device and that means that it can be hacked and extracted, it's just a matter of time when this will happen.
Advantage of additional passphrase compared to PIN code is that it is not stored anywhere on device and there is nothing that can be hacked.
I am not saying PIN codes are bad for hardware wallets, but I wouldn't trust them to keep my coins safe.

User can export seedphrase from X1 and it takes under a minute to do so. X1 being BIP-39 compatible means it works with all the mainstream software and hardware wallets and users can seamlessly shift from X1 to any other wallet, or vice versa.
OK, it's clear now.
Thank you for explanation.
3012  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: December 22, 2022, 09:32:51 PM
Anyway, at the beginning of this drama I thought that SBF will somehow weasel his way out or eventually get a couple of years in a minimum security prison but the way things are developing he may end locked up for a little bit longer. I hope those two somehow involved Kevin O'Leary as well. Fingers crossed.
If you want to hear my prognosis for SBF, and I can be totally wrong, I expect to see him being suicided like Epstein, and recording camera won't record anything by some weird accident.
He knows to much, he has a lot of connections with politicians and they won't throw him under the bus just like that, but his girlfriend and other partners may end up in jail.
We could also see him giving away information about all other shady shitcoin projects and their creators.

Not sure how this works in the US, but I don't think he's REALLY going to transfer them $250 million cash. I've seen people saying that he only needs to pay 10% ($25m) secured by his home in Palo Alto and/or other assets?
They need to guarantee to pay all this money (one way or another) if he escapes custody or leaves country with fake documents.
3013  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Borsa.cash on: December 22, 2022, 09:17:50 PM
Welcome to Borsa.cash, a rapid cryptocurrency exchange service!
There is no FAQ or about page and I can't find any information on your website if you are asking for kyc verification in some cases or not.
It's also strange that I can't exchange money when I want but I have to wait your working hours to do this, that probably means that everything is done manually.
All this doesn't look very reliable to me :/
3014  Other / Meta / Re: Request: New Local Board for Pakistan (Urdu) on: December 22, 2022, 08:55:51 PM
Honestly I see no reason why both of you are feeling somehow offended that they used you getting a local board as an argument for them getting theirs, like that is somehow diminishing your success. If anything, I expected kinda "yes theymos, they deserve their local board too" kind of responses, and not this.
I never thought I would see members who just received new local board (and we all supported that for some time) being against creating one more local board,
or nitpicking and finding flaws and mistakes in OP request topic, but I have seen worse things in this forum so I am not really surprised.
There are some local boards that exist today and they have much less members than guys from Pakistan, and they are less active.
Proposition to OP for improving this request is to add potential Child Boards that could be added right away, we found out it helps keeping everything in order.

3015  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trouble with Trezor model T on: December 21, 2022, 07:55:26 PM
I have a Trezor wallet model T . Sometimes I suffer from a problem with pressing the PIN numbers. When I want to connect the wallet to the site, it asks me to enter the PIN on the hard wallet. I press the number, but it does not respond sometimes, or another number is pressed instead, and thus I get an error. This problem occurs sometimes but not always.
I never liked Trezor model T and I would never buy it with current price they are asking for this device, but I didn't hear many people complaining about this issue.
Since warrant expired you can only try replacing screen, but is not easy task if you don't have experience with soldering job.
It's best to contact Trezor support directly and ask them about issues you are facing.

So what could be the cause of the problem?
Also, is there a tool to press numbers similar to the stick that was used for touch screens in some types of mobiles?
There is a pen that works on laptops and similar devices but I am not sure it will be compatible with Trezor.
3016  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Introducing Cypherock X1, World's first hardware-based MPC Wallet on: December 21, 2022, 07:43:54 PM
PIN backups are not single point of failure like seedphrases [ IMPORTANT ][/b]
Single point of failure means that if you lose your PIN code, your funds are lost.
I don't think that PIN codes are bulletproof protection, and it's possible that someone could hack it much easier than 12/24 seed words.
Can I still use the seed words I used on Cypherock wallet and import them in some other brand of hardware wallet, let's say Trezor, should everything work fine or they are useless without PIN?

I agree, since we are a new player in the market. There is a lot of features that we need to implement and that's why our product roadmap is jampacked(currently not public, will be soon).
Just wondering if you can tell us how big Cypherock team is, I mean how many developers you have that are working on firmware, code and everything else?
3017  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Safepal hardware wallet review and opinions on: December 21, 2022, 07:36:23 PM
the safepal team had made several airdrops of both their SFP token and others they added almost all the chains present how: solana, fantom, polygon, avax, heco, kcc, arbitrum, near, songbird and many others
I would never waste a single satoshi on buying Safepal wallet, and this is all worthless shitcoins and buying hardware wallet just to get few bucks from some airdrops is not very smart, especially if they are asking for any kind of identity verification.
No need to repeat ourselves about Safepal wallet, just read everything that is written in this topic and know that Safepal has serious flaws in their design.
Kraken team wrote more about Safepal but we also discussed about that in forum so you can check that out:

3018  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How does instant exchanges work? on: December 21, 2022, 05:48:44 PM
I wondered how they are working, like the process from receiving the payment to exchanging and sending the exchanged crypto.
They are not all working the same way, but most of them are just using third party centralized exchanges and I would be very careful using services like that with larger amount of coins.
From my research exch.cx looks ok, they don't use any third parties, they have live reserves show on their website and they claim they can prove that if asked.
Most important thing to look with all this instant exchanges is to read their terms and stay away from anything that can ask for kyc verification and seize your coins if you don't provide what they asked.

I'm assuming they are using some other exchange API, for example, Binance or KuCoin or CoinBase or whatever. I'm not looking to create a new one lol but just curious about how they are working since i cant understand how everything is connected lol.
Some of them are using big centralized exchanges and they and they don't hold any funds.
You will have to ask support for each of this exchange for more details and see what they tell you about this.
3019  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance US buys Voyager Digital assets for $1.02 billion on: December 21, 2022, 05:43:00 PM
No one put the gun on his head and forced him to do it.
No one that we know.... and nobody knows what is happening behind the scenes Wink
If you saw videos from Scam Bankman he was shaking like a junky, he was drinking heavy medications and probably he took drugs for some time to appear sort off normal in public.
I don't know full details around Voyager, but I can't possibly imagine why platform like that would be profitable in future, and yes I know people forget things to easy, but still...
There is nothing ''New Voyager'' is going to do that will make me consider using it for anything.
3020  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Have anyone used coinplaza.it recently? on: December 21, 2022, 05:34:56 PM
For Bitcoin to euro, my limit is €100. But when I'm not logged in, the limit is €10,000 (and €20,000 for crypto to crypto). But I can't do anything without logging in, so maybe they show the limit they'll have after full KYC.
Have you ever tried exchanging Bitcoin Lightning Network to Euro sepa with Coinplaza?
I registered test account with temp email, and it first asked me to accept cookies before doing that, than I had to accept all of their terms.
Now I see there is 3 level of verification and for exchanging to Euro sepa they ask me to complete Level 2 verification, even for 50 euros.

This 10k and 20k limits is fake and it's probably some poor tactics to lure new customers  Tongue
