For any actual poker players out there, let me say this place has killer bonuses and promotions, coin for coin, it's the best card room to play at. And for those like myself who play in casinos and not just online, freemoney is almost ALWAYS around; having a pitboss around is great, makes you feel more secure and attended to. Need a transaction pushed through for some reason? bam ask fmoney and hes on top of it. Have any suggestions or requests? bam ask fmoney and he will give you ground to speak and entertain your ideas. No one sitting at your stakes table? bam ask fmoney and he will sit and play hands with you so you can get the table going.
I'm sure I sound like a fanboy by now, but hey, he does a great job at running this card room. Coming from vegas, great/personalized service stand out, and fmoney nailed it.

Hey, thanks, Chief.

Download speed of the blockchain is ridicolous and make no sense.
It's a P2P network where there is a 900MB file and pretty much everyone is a seeder. On bittorrent that mean FULL STEAM AHEAD! DOWNLOAD AT FULL SPEED! It should take like 5 or 10 minutes.
Instead here it take 12+hours....... I think the client limits its connections to a few tens of peers. Given that these are random peers, their upload speeds are going to be horrible. (This is speculation though, I may be wrong about how this works.) This seems right, but also there is a huge difference on a netbook compared to a desktop. I think this is because it validates as blocks come in and machine speed matters.

You are going to be rich.
1. Buy coins 2. Release code 3. Profit
Your (supposed) software makes coins more valuable. There is a much better way to profit than selling the software. Lets call it the Satoshi method.

I think I have some coins in there. Not sure if I have my password or not though. This is disappointing because I thought the guy was legit. Obviously stuff happens and projects end, but not wrapping things up fairly is theft.
edit: and of all sites one like should should acknowledge the loss simple from delay.

6/7 days up.
You have a ridiculously short memory. Up from...$2.5? Nice. Good luck recovering your losses. What you buy at, $28? Dunno about the two of you but my memory goes back to 3 cents.

Isn't a cigarette like super bad in that spot?
Every politician creeps me out.
"I noticed a huge control apparatus." <slow creepy smile> "I'd like to test it out on you this January. Please yank my lever or punch my chad."

Robo, do you prefer Bitcoin over the others? For good reason? If yes, then don't worry. Your good reasons will make it the most desired and used. If no, then don't worry about Bitcoin.

Next up: Price of oil since my last bowl movement
I'm willing to bet Bitcoinica had at least a small effect on the price decrease. I don't doubt it, but a chart of the price since bitcoinica opened isn't evidence of that any more than this morning's oil price is evidence of the power of a turd.

Good club That is fans, instead of professionals of poker play the core. And it is good. Transfer into the account comes practically at once. Back payments go ~ 8 hours. Is freerols and other tournaments where payments more than were thrown off players. Not clearly why there are no players... Today, for example, I have won freerol because played against siting out... In general wanted to tell that bitcoin are ideally suited for poker, and that the site is executed not badly. It is necessary to hope that at freemoney not too heavy losses and that will come more players. Thanks fsb, glad you enjoy the site.

Bad idea. It's not necessary, the beauty of Bitcoin is its decentralization. You are changing the rules of the game.
No it's fine. The beauty of it is that even if it calls itself 'official' it doesn't have any special standing concerning bitcoin. If it maintains good reputation it will have influence with some, if not then not. It's not going to be anything more than people working to provide guidance, education, whatever. If it turns out that it works better to have a focal point org then it will do well.

After a few mins of more thinking...
Perhaps the idea of an "official" group is not wise. Instead, the core dev team could create an organization, with special logo and name. This organization would be the de facto official group, but only so long as it held up its reputation. At all times, other groups can form and compete for "de facto officialness."
In essence then, this would just be a Non-profit, spontaneously organized by individuals. If multiple such organizations sprout up, then each community member can support whomever they wish.
Think of it like a market for competing representatives. No group official by law, but any group official by market sentiment. We would see one group come to dominate the sentiment, but Bitcoin would not be irrevocably tied to it.
No group should be granted an explicit monopoly... but an implicit market-derived monopoly would not bother me.

I think the metric relies on the fact that people rarely move coins from one place to another unless they are spending them, or plan to spend them soon, or just received them from somebody else. As long as this is the case, then the metric is valid.
If I randomly transfer bitcoins from one address to another, then it throws off the days-destroyed metric, since those were not spent but the metric still measures them as spent coins.
You don't have to assume that this doesn't happen, you just assume it isn't correlated with anything. Which still isn't right, but I don't think there is reason to believe people are moving them for no reason any MORE than they were last month.

4. Bitcoin will be regulated and legal - SilkRoad closes - price goes down
Oh man yeah and what if they make the drugs illegal too what will you smoke before you post? Is it not clear that SR doesn't care about 'regulations'? Am I on drugs?

Earlier today I posted a thread on the interesting October 10th article in the New Yorker positing that Satoshi was Michael Clear, a grad student at Trinity. After a review of some of the forum posts and paper by "Satoshi" I do not think it could be him. Even though occasional British spellings are used, the overall language is very Americanized. Also, the writer is much older than 23. He refers to the USENET, for example. Also, the writer's fluent knowledge of cryptocurrency issues is way too thorough for a youngster, even a brilliant one.
Like others I analyzed the language of the Satoshi posts and quickly noticed word collisions with posts of another contributor, Robert A. Hettinga. For example,
.......Right, exactly. .......synchronisation (spelled with an 's') .......etched .......shenanigans
That is interesting, but.. 1. none of those are super rare. 2. I (and others I'm sure) eventually start mimicking after talking to or reading from someone for a while. 3. If I were hiding I would make sure to remove my own previously shown idiosyncrasies, but not think of ones I'd picked up from others considering them standard.

The chances of Satoshi being a single person are slim. I am skeptical of Gavin's explanation for the name Clearcoin.
Lol, please. Like satoshi is going to keep hidden and then Gavin is going to use his real name. Clear? Transparent? Get it?

Blocks can't be larger than 1MB, so an attacker can't bloat the chain too much.
Is there a current consensus on this limit going forward? It always worried me a bit. Miners may not want to increase later. I see all kinds of pressures in play, hard for me to work out.

So basically, I buy a 30BTC Mt Gox gift cards from somebody w 100$ via PayPal.
Then I claim that gift card and take the BTC and put them in my wallet?
Sweet
What? No, that doesn't help at all. You just buy the Gox code and use it to get coins then pull back the PP. You have to know someone who can either get you back or doesn't mind giving you free money.

I doubt that any exchange who is big enough to pay their expenses will be able to operate under the kind of anonymity that would be desirable to a lot of us.
My projection is that when anonymity is required, fiat<->btc will be occurring on a face-to-face basis and at a significant discount over the exchange rates. And I doubt that it will be long before that is considered to be a criminal activity if it is not already.
Are you saying people will pay less to get coin without giving info to an exchange?
