2981  Economy / Speculation / Re: $7 today?!! on: January 07, 2012, 01:45:08 AM
Oh ya, I would happily patronize a 'fractional reserve Bitcoin bank' if there were a reason to do so.  My criteria would be that 1) I get a fair cut of the proceeds, 2) I hold the power to get out imediately and autonomously if I choose, and 3) that I can verify their books to my satisfaction.

By #2 do you mean that people can get out in order of asking and you'll only be left holding the bag if you are late? Because not everyone can get out, that's the downside.
2982  Economy / Goods / Re: Want to borrow car on: January 06, 2012, 09:59:06 PM
Is there anyone with an extra car who would be willing to lend it?

It would work out best if you were in western PA, North Carolina, or central Florida.

I'll need it for about 2 months. Nothing too fancy needed, just not falling apart.

I don't know how much visibility this post will get so if you see it and can put me in touch with someone who ends up being able to help I'll throw you a few coins too.

How much would you pay me to drive my car around for 2 months? Smiley

http://goo.gl/xMniu

I swear to you it is as fun as it sounds! Has two turbos getting put on as well.

Can a girl drive it (Auto trans)?

How much do you want?

Where are you?
2983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Increases in bitcoin prices are bad for merchants on: January 06, 2012, 09:17:02 PM
Can you really envision a world where everyone meaning 100% of participants think something will only go up in value? I sure can't.. And that's why it's a fallacy.

I think most people believe oil will just continue to go up in value. The same could be said for uranium and other non-renewable resources that are consumed (gold and silver doesn't count).

Gold, silver, bitcoins, etc aren't really consumed, so even though they follow the same extraction curve as oil, their price floats based upon the whims of speculators.

Bitcoin (and gold I think to some extent) are very different than oil. If Bitcoin gets expensive it holds a lot of value and that makes a good money. If oil gets expensive we suck more up until we ultimately find a different means to our ends.
2984  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do we need regulation based on morality? on: January 06, 2012, 07:45:22 PM
You cannot legislate morality.

Morality is different to all people.

[Food, sex, work, play, disputes] are different for all people too, but that doesn't stop them.
2985  Economy / Speculation / Re: Enjoying the Rollercoaster Ride in BTC Price? on: January 06, 2012, 07:28:32 PM
We have had FOUR $1 dollar spikes, up and down, in the last 12 hours.

Your feedback appreciated.

One dollar isn't very much money though. At least they weren't 1BTC spikes.

Enough said...

So not giving money to white supremacists is bad? I can only imagine the shit storm if Ron did give money to whities.
2988  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Orlando Bitcoin Meetup - Wednesday 12/28 on: January 05, 2012, 08:08:19 AM

2990  Economy / Speculation / Re: Be ready for the new norm. on: January 04, 2012, 11:46:01 PM
Really you shouldn't worry about how much of my investment so far I'll hold on to, but how much value I (and others to a much larger extent) are going to produce and lock up as coins.
2991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins are not, in practice, fungible on: January 04, 2012, 10:48:24 PM
I don't believe that law enforcement contacted them and said hey keep an eye out for bitcoin transactions that had inputs from this or that address.
2992  Other / Meta / Re: [Edit] Strange recipient name shown on: January 04, 2012, 09:12:33 PM
Oh, okay. So the recipient field is "just" not coded such that I can see the full list of recipients? Strange.

Sorry about the ruckus, I removed all the details from the first post and answered you on PM.

@admins: maybe the recipient display needs some attention, might be worth annoying the forum devs for a moment.

Bcc is blind carbon copy.

But if a fetus is a person it already falls under existing laws against murder. Is he going to just let murder happen? Maybe (like nearly everyone) he doesn't think fetuses are -real- people, covered by laws against murder like the rest of us

Mizery, do you remember me? We met in SF. I'm not a troll.

I really don't think it's right to put people in cages if they won't pay for other people's guarding (whether they want it or not, which most probably do).

I used the word troll, but I did not refer to you as a troll.  The reference to you as a troll came from someone else.  Feel free to reread what I wrote if you'd like.

I understand. I was saying that for both of your benefits (my benefit really) to demonstrate my realness.
2995  Economy / Economics / Re: The early-adoptor unfairness on: January 04, 2012, 07:50:22 PM
You are missing the contribution, bubbleboy. When coins were trading for 6 cents and  the total value of all coins was under $1M there wasn't much incentive to build apps and businesses. There just wasn't enough value in the whole system. The injection of value made possible a lot more.

And it isn't a transfer of wealth that's going to happen. It is wealth creation. If the value increases it's because Bitcoin is valuable. The new value will go to people in proportion to how quick and sure they are.
2996  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins are not, in practice, fungible on: January 04, 2012, 11:29:09 AM
They're within their rights like I have the right to sell dogshit soup. It's super bad to act like you accept bitcoin when you only accept some bitcoins. And the method for telling which ones they accept is opaque, and they aren't simply going to return them or it would be fairly pointless. It would be like a paper dollar merchant not just declining dollars they deemed suspicious, but keeping them and not delivering product.

Maybe someone from this site wants to tell us if customers have an expectation of being paid only in coins that were never involved in a crime. Likely the risk runs one way only. Lose coins if they are deemed tainted by Gox, no recourse if Gox gives you tainted coins.

Is there a procedure for reporting crimes? Are crimes of all sizes given consideration? Someone didn't send me product, this counts right? How about my cousin grabbing my instawallet funds?

Really, promise to give it up and then actually give it up.
2997  Other / Off-topic / Intrade on: January 04, 2012, 10:55:31 AM
While we wait for the Intrade of Bitcoin to be implemented anyone want to open a small position for me?

I'm betting Ron Paul will be substantially higher than 2% to win the nomination at some point, I want to double or triple my money and get out. Anyone want to help? I'd like you do be around a lot so I can cut my losses or grab profit when I decide.

On second thought, is there a way to transfer funds between users? Then I'd just be looking for someone who would be and sell for coin. That would be more fun for me.

So if I own property on the border can I invite people to it? Does any third party have standing? Can the come guard my property against my will? What if I or my associates disobey the guards? Nothing happens? How is Ron funding these guards?

I am not sure.  Perhaps I or any other human existence (that has ability to speak a language, probably English is most necessary) can research some contact information for those who own property on border of united states country and interview them to ask those questions to find out their answers.  google offers free calls to united states numbers, so this should be easy for anyone in united states or access to a server/shell account in united states to do.

Don't feed this troll. No one is dumb enough to argue against Ron Paul because he wouldn't support abandoning our border security so their "friends" could illegally enter the country. That's just silly.

Mizery, do you remember me? We met in SF. I'm not a troll.

2999  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins are not, in practice, fungible on: January 03, 2012, 11:20:23 PM
I think it's a good idea to do this kind of tracing of stolen coins. Theoretically, if people know that if they buy stolen coins they might not be able to resell them, they might not buy them in the first place. As a result, thieves will have a tougher time unloading stolen coins.

I have some coins to sell you.

Are they stolen or are they legit?  Please let me know how you verify.

The only person getting stuck w/ tainted coins is victims.

Worst case scenario is it simply makes Bitcoins less valuable for theives (i.e. less than face value) as they will want to unload them quickly before being considered tainted (and thus once again only screw over the person who unkowingly buys them.

Even if there was a global universal database of tainted coins (a pipe dream if I ever heard one) here is a timeline.

1) I steal 10,000 coins.
2) Knowing time is of the essence I unload them before the victim even discovers they have been stolen.   The more I discount them the quicker I can sell them.
3) Victim reports coins as stolen.
4) Some central authority  (Mt Gox Police Dept??) verifies the claim of stolen coins and within hours? days? weeks? updated the global registry of stolen coins.

Not my problem I already have unloaded them to some suckers who see the value of their coins becomes worthless.

Now how many victims have to see their coins become worthless before people start saying "Fuck Bitcoin your coins can become worthless at any point in time"?  What do you think that will do to the overall value of Bitcoin as a mechanism for exchange?

More like how many times does MtGox have to get screwed by taking coins that don't get marked tainted until later before they go out of business.

2:17 - more border guards

He wants me to pay (for violence) to keep my friends from coming for a visit.

slander ftl

guard != violence

I worked at ACen for Anime Pavilion and most of my duty was to make sure nobody stole any merchandise.   I was a guard.  There were many of us watching.  When someone stole something we did not violently kill them or pursue any other violent reactions.  To promote that my duty as guarding the merchandise is violent is grossly abusive.  I can understand that if I had killed one or more human existences as part of my duty than my particular efforts would be violent, but not necessarily correlating to the responsibility of guarding.  Fuck that though, right?  Guarding is fucking violent, yo!  Fuck miz and their defensiveness towards explaining that guarding is not violent...fucking noob!

Perhaps I should contact Anime Pavilion and all other businesses that have humans and technology set up or available to guard their merchandise and stuff and explain to them how it is violent in nature.  Same is true for home security surveillance systems.  Violence is widespread.  Even the forum moderators here and at other sites that are guarding the community from spam and other obnoxious usually automated posts.... What's with all this absurd violence?  Guarding should be abolished and illegal practice.  All the things should be unprotected!  Condoms?  VIOLENCE I TELL YA!

Also the reference to "keep my friends from coming for a visit" is also grossly abusive slander that is inaccurate and misleading.  Misinformation/incompetence ftl.

By the way I also am not perfect and sometimes say inaccurate things, and I greatly appreciate the efforts by others to correct me.  That's what this is, but of course with the profanities and other types of sarcasm it's likely to result in further controversy.  Wooo, go me.

hint: Profanity is not love, but fucking is part of it.

So if I own property on the border can I invite people to it? Does any third party have standing? Can the come guard my property against my will? What if I or my associates disobey the guards? Nothing happens? How is Ron funding these guards?
