Ahh! I apologize. I forgot a single word that indeed confuses everything. Omniscient. Of course the intelligent individual would also have to be omniscient. Once again, my apologies.
The best form of government is a Good King. The worst form of government is a Bad King. All other forms of government lie somewhere in-between. I'm the good king for me. Everyone else is a bad king for me. I guess I agree with you.

Was it really small with coins you just got and no fee? Those things put you completely at the bottom of the queue. One time I waited over 2 days, but that's pretty rare and tonight I had a 1BTC tx with no fee go through right away. Just in case, do you have connections and all the blocks? Have you looked for the tx in blockexplorer.com and http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin?

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Price Suppression, is it possible?
|
on: June 17, 2011, 10:19:40 AM

The difference is delivery. If people who bought gold took delivery they could not manipulate the price by selling paper into the market. As long as people accept unbacked or partially backed promises they can suppress. If people accept promises to deliver coins as being as good as coins themselves then manipulation is possible. There is no reason to do that though since bitcoins are so easily deliverable.

I have a pet theory that the Anon/LulzSec folks are hard at work screwing bitcoiners over...all for lulz no doubt! Wow, you didn't jump off a bridge? Fuck LulzSec, seriously. They accomplish absolutely nothing except screwing over normal people. I hope they all die a slow painful death. One of the addresses to which some of my stolen btc went belongs to them. Someone else had their mtgox account hacked and btc sent to the very same address.. There is a trail of crime here. This is a concerted attack on bitcoin users. Man, I feel bad for you, but give that a rest. Some funds went to a donation address, big deal. You don't know anything.

Thanks for responding!
1. I guess you missed my point, thats my fault. What I was getting at is they did not copy Mt.Gox, in fact, theres nothing about Mt.Gox to copy. Have you logged into TH? You'll see their site is wildly different then Gox 2. In pretty much every industry, something trivial like the FAQ, will be used as a basis for a competitor. Agreed, they should not have copy-pasted it, but if those are your grounds for being not trusted, then your gonna have to have more than that my friend! 3. Yup, a really good team! Thats why they will surpass Gox in a few months. 5. I assume thats your own personal opinion and not your professional one? I've been in the marketing industry for over 8 years and referral programs most defiantly do not mean that. Try to look at it like this, can you think of a more cost-effective method of marketing an exchange in such a new and young industry? 6. Again, are you someone who's in the e-commerce industry? If you are, you definitely know that an American company who is catering to an English speaking consumer base is much better than a Japanese one. ESPECIALLY a company in which your transferring thousands of dollars to! I don't know about you, but I'd rather the American one.
I hope I articulated my points, let me know if you have any questions!
TradeHill is an American company? I am tired of trying to decipher Magical Tux's thick Jap accent

Yes, until all 21 million bitcoins are finished being mined, about 7,200 BTC are added to the economy each day.
7200BTC/day is the average and it will drop at block 210000 to 3600BTC/day.

Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Wallet Encryption - Keyfiles are needed!
|
on: June 16, 2011, 11:28:07 AM

Maybe not as complicated setup as Truecrypt but I think keyfiles are a must for better security. It would make brute forcing a wallet WAY harder if the attacker doesn't know what file(s) you use as keyfiles. Generating a keyfile would be a nice feature too. Bitcoin would have to remind the user though that the keyfile must be backed up and kept somewhere safe for if you lose the keyfile you can't open the wallet.
Anyone else use keyfiles elsewhere? I don't know the details of how it would be implemented but couldn't bitcoin read the disk at random intervals (not too often to notice performance change) and access a file or two just to trick malware. That way if there is malware they won't be able to know when the actual keyfile is used?
Aren't you going to need to reveal the keyfile at some point? Finding a way to be safe with malware on your computer is not optimal.

Damien brought up expire times on bids; makes sense for this situation, along with a trading halt.
I added in a server time countdown today for just such a reason; and the server is on UTC / GMT. So we're locked in currently at London -1 (It's British Daylight Time right now).
Appreciate the countdown. The site looks better every time I hit it.
