421  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Alternative to Coinbase on: January 17, 2018, 09:08:05 AM
When it comes to the crypto market, when you are in the quest of looking for alternatives, you need to be careful of what you wish for because its not always the expected that is being met. Although, Coinbase might have their own excesses but they are still one of the best in the market that would not run away with investors fund. So, looking for alternative, be sure to your own valid due diligence before parting away with your money.
422  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM ALERT] Great North Data uses extortion to force clients out on: January 17, 2018, 07:59:20 AM
My miner is now running no issues.

The website says capacity full and from what I’ve been told the power company that was supposed to give them hydro power is not living up to their end of the bargain.

I can confidently say great north is not a scam.

I understand the feeling when one is not getting the response as at when due especially when you have invested quite an amount of money in the project. I am also glad you are giving updates on the progress made so far which made everyone see that the service provider is actually open to improvement compared to others that would tarnish the company's name and wont even bother to update even if the issue has been resolved. I would suggest you change the title of the thread in other not to spread false claim.
423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin dies. All the cottage coins will die? on: January 17, 2018, 07:07:29 AM
Is that the case? Bitcoin if it dies. I do not think the other coins will go well.

One fact that is glaring in our face even if some people will want to argue against it your submission which I will completely agree with. Its until you have bitcoin that majority of other coins becomes buyable which then means when bitcoin is no longer available, one cannot get the coin again and down everything goes. The market is still largely revolving around bitcoin as at the moment maybe in the future it might change but not what we are currently facing.
424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Polymath Scam: Stay Away! on: January 17, 2018, 06:49:19 AM
I posted a thread, but noone really gave two shits. I warned you guys.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2746718.msg28063113#msg28063113

NEVER submit KYC documents to anyone, anywhere. Very fucking dangerous.

Things have gotten so bad that some people can even release their passport details and address just for some tokens which might even not worth as much as they expected at the end of the day but the information provided can no longer be called back. Its important that we all need to be more careful in the information we seeks to provide.

Don't waste your time with these amateurs.

They super hyped airdrop got everyone excited.  First they delayed the release of their KYC instructions.  Then they took the KYC site down for two days while they "cleared a backlog." They've brought it back now, but they changed the rules.  Half the people who signed up are being told their wallet addresses are not registered.  And now you can only complete the KYC process by submitting a copy of your passport (drivers licenses and/or other government IDs will no longer be accepted).

Many of us spent hours trying to get approved for the airdrop.  I know I did.  What a huge waste of time!

I hope this project fails.  These guys are real scumbags.  Stay away!

Asking for passport or drivers license is way to far in my opinion but won't say they are outrightly scam if you are not comfortable with their request, just stay away with their air drop. Its not compulsory and no one is being forced here.
425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I already want to buy some coins. Do you still need to wait? on: January 17, 2018, 06:03:54 AM
The decline is continuing. But I'm afraid I may not have time to reach the bottom. I feel this is a good opportunity. What do you think?

One thing about the chicken hearted is that they are never decisive about the decision they want to take. Most of the time when the price is rising they complain about how its too late to get in or how expensive it is and they cannot go ahead with it. On the same other end when price is crashing like what is being witnessed now, rather than seizing the opportunity, they either want to wait a little or scared again that the price might not pick up and the cycle continues all over.
426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why South Korea made this big step about banning Bitcoin? on: January 16, 2018, 06:48:02 PM
As the south Korean government made a big announcement about banning Bitcoin and other crypto,
All the market is down. How and why South korea do so,
What will be the next stage of bitcoin in future.
After watching this can other countries think the same thing to do so?
If so what will the future of crypto???

There has been quite an amount of media coverage on this matter about the ban of bitcoin but unfortunately the price has reacted to it which witnessed the largest amount of downturn in recent times but eventually its going to recover to the amazement to the amount of people who might have thought otherwise. The only people I see here having some challenges are the workable projects running their ICOs at the moment they will see huge amount of low actualization at the moment.
427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Any solution to the problem of high fees? on: January 15, 2018, 06:17:05 PM
Is Core currently working on the solution of high fees and excessive waiting times? If so, what is it?

I imagine that for all newcomers, and those that are yet to come, it must be a nasty surprise to find the current fees.

First of all, Thanks

There is solution already but the rolling out is what is slow because in the past few weeks, I have read about the lightening network and even SegWit which has been with us for a while. However, the people that are highly technically incline in things that relate to crypto would have start harnessing all this opportunity and make life easier for themselves. All that is left is for everyone to find a way to join the train or else while others are paying low fees, you realised you are only making the miners richer.
428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Internet Required for retail purchases? on: January 15, 2018, 06:05:35 PM
There are still many parts of the world, including stores, taxis, but also people with smartphones, that do not have Internet. It is doubtful that even in the long-term future everyone is going to have internet on their smartphone. So how is bitcoin going to work for retail transactions? Imagine a store without public wifi. Can transactions be processed if only the vendor has Wifi?

Credit cards can work on either a phone line or internet, so it would be ubiquitous as opposed to bitcoin which cannot work on a phone line?

At some point we wont need the internet to do some things that it seems our very existence relies on the internet. Today, you can open a bank account, transfer money, buy recharge card, make payments etc even with phones that are not internet enabled. But that does mean the internet is not important. It is but that is not the end of things advancement in technology is now directed to people who cannot afford to buy an internet enabled phone or a smart phone.
429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: FIRST LEGIT CRYPTOPIA PUMPING GROUP on: January 15, 2018, 01:19:29 PM
Hello dear bitcointalk community,
I am not new to all this crypto stuff, but it never really interested me until the past couple weeks. I got more and more into all this things, bought some cloudmining hashrates for bitcoin and ethereum and invested about 3.5k$ in altcoins for long term.
I've red about pump and dump groups 3 days ago for the first time and i just really got excited about this
This is like a bit of wolf of wallstreet haha
But of course it was too good to be true
I've looked for a group that seemed legit to me and i had my first pump today. What happened?
I lost about 70% of my investment.
After some further researches i think that there are actually no real pumping groups, only people who want to f**k over all the others and make their pockets full.
That's too bad because this all could be real: people could support each other and get rich together instead of scamming each other
I want to make this dream true.
I really want to build a community of honest people and get as much money as possible out of this crypto hype TOGETHER!

I apologize if there are some grammatical errors in the text, as i am from germany

I made a pump canal on telegram first but i will also make a group chat on telegram right now to make this group more legit
I see that most telegram pump and dump "groups" are canal only, but this is just bullshit because the admin can post the coin and people on the canal don't see any feedback from the others if this is a scam or not.
But not here. I wan't this to be as legit as possible, people will be able to chat with each other and exchange their experience.

Link to the canal:
https://t.me/simplepump

Groupchat following

All pump and dump groups have the feature you are castigating and even the one you are trying to promote. Pump and dump group are only there to make money for those who are the admin and that is exactly what you are trying to do afterall you also have been a victim of such atrocities committed by some people who made the same promises you are making. There is no legit or illegit dump group everything is just directed towards one objective some people will make money while others will be become poorer.
430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: What are deposit codes / yobit codes and how to use them? on: January 15, 2018, 12:25:05 PM
Hey there,

i think my yobit account was hacked - perhaps because i used the yobit app from google play store !?!?
So now i can see, that my BTC funds where changed to a yobit code. But it was not me and i am wondering what these yobit codes are? Is there a possibility to get my BTC back from this yobit code? Perhaps the code is not used yet by someone else, so can i enter this code somewhere or how are they used?

In FAQ i can't find enough informations about these codes. And i can't chat in trollbox, because all my BTC is gone to yobit codes Sad
--> And i am afraid of depositing new BTC to yobit, if i really got hacked.

Please help with an explanation! Thank you and best regards,

David

A way out is to start by opening a ticket buy explaining what is going on. I don't think you need to have a BTC in your account to be able to do that and the longer you wait the more open you are to whatever that is wrong with your account to be perfected. But I don't see it as something so serious though because of the codes and you can equally google about it and see some people who have been faced with similar scenerios and how they went about it to get it resolved.
431  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Intel Hack is NSA backdoor 'Discovered', NSA created BITCOIN - What's to worry? on: January 15, 2018, 09:34:14 AM
A lot of controversy have surrounded the creation of bitcoin with several school of thoughts and even aside the ones we have read about, some are still coming and in all, they have been debunked for those who have not read about it, some are as follows;

1. Satoshi is a group of people

2. Bitcoin was created by China others said its from Korea, some even said Russia

3. Roger Ver is the creator of Bitcoin some even said its the Twins etc. Anyhow they make it seems, its does not matter.
432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] GRAFT - Universal Payment Processing Network on: January 15, 2018, 06:00:44 AM
Visiting the site in preparation for the commencement of the ICO, I must appreciate the amount of work that have been put into what the project has been about till date and as we await the opening so also I wish the outcome will be massive. However, on visiting the site the minimum to purchase would be 1500 while one is quoted at 0.0000262 which then amounted to .0393 if my calculation is right. Converting that to dollars would not be below $500 (depending on rate). Is that not too high to be the minimum?
433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Investment advice on: January 15, 2018, 05:50:00 AM
Hi,
I only started 1 month ago with $200 and now at $3000
Regreting not investing more but isn't that the same thoughts of everyone.

Started with Cardano at $0.13

Now holding:
50% Ripple
30% Cardani
20% Lumens
10% Tronix

All of which were low when i invested and not sure if its smart to continue hodling the same coins.

I know a lot of people would say invest in BTC or ETH but they are slow moving atm, where a lot of low value coins are mooning.

Ripple: probably 50% is in this currently which is hard to argue with as its rising fast but i could lose profit if it was to crash.

$3000 - $30,000 - how would you go about it?

Appreciate any feedback

All I can say is wow. You have made quite an impressive choice of investment which the risk has eventually paid off and if you have not sold your ripple, j suggest you still hold. Quite a number of people don't have the mindset to take the risk you took but they all wanted returns. The most important thing now, is knowing the right time to exit those market and take the risk elsewhere.
434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Get Rid Of Bitcoins ? on: January 15, 2018, 05:23:40 AM
Should I get rid of Bitcoins and buy ETH

You want to get rid of bitcoin, to get ETH but be sure to kindly do your analysis very well before going for it because selling bitcoin now would mean selling at a low value than what it was some weeks back abdbwiuld mean buying ETH at an high price at thus moment. My suggestion, rather than dumping your bitcoin for ETH, why don't you look for funds elsewhere maybe a fresh fiat or some other portfolio, then investbsuch in ETH with that, you have spread your risk to a large extent.
435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Due for a correction.. on: January 14, 2018, 08:09:21 PM
I think there are a few coins out there that are due for a correction, as the valuation has exceeded what could be considered as a reasonable value even if the wildest expectations were confirmed. I think one of them IOTA... any other?

The question is what is your basis for concluding such. Just a feeling of what you think? Unfortunately, the market does not work based in feelings rather its by actions. It would have been better if you had given reasons for coming to that conclusion. A coin rising does not necessarily mean it will be corrected it might have stayed undervalued long over due which might now start catching up on its rightful position.
436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We need a Bitcoin Lightning Logo! on: January 14, 2018, 08:06:02 PM
Does something a like a standard Bitcoin Lightning logo already exist?

If not, I think we need something like that for merchants to advertise that they accept Lightning payments. Maybe some kind of variation of the standard orange Bitcoin logo. I would be willing to put out a bounty for the best logo.

What do you think?

I haven't seen any but if you have the idea, there is nothing stopping you from making one, push it out and maybe it gets accepted with something so simple as that, you have just made your name stand the test of time but be sure to make it open source just like the individual who designed the generally accepted bitcoin logo and till tomorrow reference will be made to him anytime discussion get to that angle.
437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If the blockchain cannot be hacked, how can you lose anything? on: January 14, 2018, 07:58:45 PM
Hi,

If the blockchain always tells the 'truth' and it's 'impossible' to be hacked because it's a distributed ledger, how is it possible to get hacked? (not counting letting someone have access to your private key).

If my bitcoin is encrypted on the blockchain, and, I'm the only person to have the private key, how is it possible someone else can hack it? My bitcoin is still on the blockchain, right? And I'm the only one with the key!

I've read horror stories on the net about companies going bust (people shitting themsleves when kraken went dark), and reports saying that people could lose bitcoins. How is this possible? The coins are on the blockchain so you can just collect the coins later, with the next, latest and greatest crypto exchange, right? Even if Kraken went bust, pffft.. who cares? Your coins are safe on the blockchain right?

Be interested to hear from the experts..

Your earlier part is very correct but targeting your coins knows they can't hack the blockchain so they come after you by every means necessary and even if you have your private keys they don't come and ask for it. Its either they trick you in giving them, or the more advanced ones go after the wallet providers you are using just the the vulnerability of the Electrum that was discovered some days back but was patched.
438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 9 Reasons Bitcoin Could Hit $100,000 Or More on: January 14, 2018, 07:55:03 PM
Majority of the response so far are only based on speculation without a basis as to what will push bitcoin to that coveted point of $100,000. Last year was a major push that no one never envisaged but some things were responsible for such push to happen and at that high rate. But this year I have not read any major news rather its being on the negative while its OK to be optimistic, we should also not mind the actions that would be taken to move it there.
439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Indonesia bans Bitcoin on: January 14, 2018, 04:27:05 PM
What I see is most of this countries coming out to make a statement about banning bitcoin, they are only doing it because they don't have the technological capacity to enforce a regulation and if they go that way it would be too costly on their part so they want to go the cheap way out which is banning. But unfortunately for them, what make them not to enforce a regulation, they can't force a ban as people will.always find a way to ensure that they carry out their business.
440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Telegram messaging wants to launch its own cryptocurrency on: January 10, 2018, 08:17:19 AM
Encrypted messaging wants to raise at least 3.5 billion dollars through an ICO, these crypto-currency fundraising, to create its own blockchain platform.
The application Telegram intends to hit a big blow, launching its own cryptocurrency, called "gram", according to the specialized site TechCrunch. The encrypted messaging account and offer its 180 million active users the opportunity to exchange money via its chat application in a secure and low cost.

"Telegram Open Network" (TON), blockchain technology behind the "gram", could achieve 1 million transactions per second. A huge number when we know that only 7 transactions are possible today on bitcoin and 1500 on the ripple (the third cryptocurrency in terms of capitalization). In addition to providing a payment service, TON will support smart-contracts and identity verification.

The biggest ICO in history?
To finance this operation, the company plans to raise, initially, through a Pre-Initial Coin Offering (ICO), 500 million dollars with an entry ticket of about 20 million dollars. Then, in a second time, $ 3 to $ 5 billion from the general public. An operation that, if it were realized, would be the largest ICO in history, largely ahead of Tezos and its 230 million dollars.

It seems the way its all going every established service providers would have their own coins to their name and they would no longer want to focus on the primary reason why they are in business. The next we want to see is Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, BBM and a whole of other chat message app out there to have their own coin. This is just more confusion in my own opinion because its really not adding anything new to what we already have. If they want more capital to increase their business, they should sell shares and be held accountable. 3.5 Billion USD is a whole lot of money.
