461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Banxshare scam.. Fake market cap coinmarket on: June 18, 2015, 05:56:35 PM
Ummm....where does the CMC information come from ?
Looking at the Banx.io BANX<>BTC market shows pretty much no activity:
https://banx.io/trade?c=BANX&p=BTC

So where is the trading that BANX market cap is based upon ?
462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lost Bitcoins on: June 17, 2015, 10:07:23 PM
If you have NXT, there is no local wallet file to lose. As long as you still have your password, your NXT are accessible from any NXT client.
Have you still got the NXT account number ? If so, check it out on a block explorer:
http://nxtportal.org/monitor/

If you had BTC, well, they're gone unless you can find the wallet.dat file.

Yup.....one exchange, ran by the currency devs themselves. Not dodgy at all...... Grin

466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which SuperNET dev is behind CryptoCircuits? on: June 16, 2015, 06:48:44 PM
If a SuperNET dev was involved in CryptoCircuits....they'd be announcing it from the rooftops. and getting CC into the SuperNET family.
I smell BS.

I'm using accessible here from the POV of a project or asset issuer.
NXT is a completely open-source toolkit with no form of barrier to entry, except a small set-up fee.
This leads to a vibrant asset system, take a look at this lot:
http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/views/all/

Of the 57 listed assets, NXT-based projects are in the majority and definitely show the most variation: exchanges, games  a USD peg, a cafe, a solar farm, JL777 and his keiretsu constructions.....etc. Not all of these will be successful longterm, of course, but some certainly will.

On usability: NXT is very simple to use, once you stop expecting it to be identical to BTC (and it's clones), and asset issuance is not difficult. Grin
Hey, even I managed it...... Cool

On the re-invention of the XCP/BTC/blockchain triad; NXT was established before CounterParty.
The NXT blockchain has been running solidly and securely for the last 20 months, since Nov 2013, and provides a good alternative to using the BTC blockchain.
As XCP isn't integrated into the BTC core, CounterParty are totally reliant on Bitcoin for their entire operation.
This may well work out, but could give XCP issues in the long term. I'm not going to get into the current 1 vs 20 blocksize debate here, but how will XCP function in a competing BTC forks scenario, for example ?

Anyhow, take a look at NXT:

and make your own mind up.......
469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Putting Scammers On Notice on: June 15, 2015, 09:28:46 PM

***snipped***

When dealing with "developers", if they ask for money upfront, it's a scam. If you are a developer, then you already have the IDE and any software libraries needed. You have already worked on a similar project and are familiar with the rules and regulations, what clients expect and you know how to be professional. Any deviation from this is a red flag. Only liars, thieves, scammers and frauds want money up front for what they claim is the cost of starting the project. Or they "run out of code" as I heard tell once. How do you run out of code? Who in their right mind believed them when they said that? People make mistakes. Nothing wrong with making a mistake. Learning from said mistake is what matters more. Many people in the community cannot read code and do not know exactly what went into development. So it's easy for the fraud developer to say whatever they want. You really don't know if what they say is true or not. So you just take them at their word. And then they take your money and run.

***snipped***

That is a pretty hardcore viewpoint, and one that probably won't get you many friends round here.
Don't get me wrong, I'm in agreement with the general tone of your argument, but applying that rule leads to the conclusion that some very high-profile crypto projects are scams.........IPO/ICO structures have been very common in crypto over the last year.

470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New to Alt-Coins after leaving BTC behind years ago. Any advice? on: June 15, 2015, 04:23:47 PM
Yup, I'm with you on plurality......if we look at every market across the globe, there are very few that are dominated by one single player, and those are generally as scammy as fuck. Think DeBeers and diamonds.....

Everywhere else, in every free market (apply your own definition of 'free' here) there is always a small group of leaders, and a pile of smaller enterprises bringing up the rear.
To think that only one crypto-currency is going to survive in the long term (next 10-20 years) is very short sighted.

Crypto assets are going to be a big growth market, and NXT is the most accessible and usable crypto-platform for Assets.
471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New to Alt-Coins after leaving BTC behind years ago. Any advice? on: June 15, 2015, 11:58:26 AM

Sorry, but how many VC are investing in NXT? (XRP adds millionaires like you idiots add worthless assets). How many TPS can NXT do? (BTS can do 40x more than visa and MC combined). Yeah, facts suck! Go get em NXTers. Squeeze what's left of these cherries. Maybe one day someone who isn't an idiot like ThomasVeil, and has a lot more money, will actually take you guys serious. For now... you are nothing but a floundering never was. Yeah, but we have a cool wallet!!!!!! Who gives a shit! You have too many whales just waiting to dump. That's the reason nobody wil touch it. Fuckin clueless investors. Or should I say wannabe speculators. Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe! You like Chew N Kok Tommy?  Lips sealed

Btw... I also own NXT. The wallet is pretty cool.

NXT has got to #8 on CMC (and has been higher) without any VC involvement. Extra cash would always be useful, but NXT doesn't need to beg. Unlike a lot of crypto projects...how much VC cash has BTS burned through to get to its current position ?

Your TPS numbers are complete balls, btw: BTS claim to have ran a test blockchain at 100,000 TPS.
Mastercard is capable of processing something in the region of 20,000 TPS at maximum capacity, we can assume VISA has a similar number. This gives a combined total of 40,000 TPS, which makes your claim of '40x more' kind of unlikely, especially if you try doing it in the real world.
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Scalability

Mastercard and Visa achieve these processing speeds thru the use of very large, centralised data centers.I'm gonna assume that BTS will have to throw out any pretence at decentralisation in order to make their 100,000 TPS happen. You'll need the VC investment then, as full-on data centers do not come cheap.
Take a look at what you need:

472  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big question about Bitcoin XT. on: June 14, 2015, 09:01:37 PM
This has been about the worst thing that has happened in the history of Bitcoin IMO.

The best we can hope for is that the 90% acceptance level won't be "changed" and the worst that could happen is basically going to hurt Bitcoin more than anything else ever has.

I'm definitely not the most technically literate guy here, but CIYAM might be........
I do have experience of wrangling NXT thru a hard fork, and even on NXTs small scale (with a very tight-knit community) it's not all that easy.
A competitive Bitcoin hard fork sounds like no fun at all.

And, just for the lulz:
Bitcoin XT.......BitcoiN XT......BitcoiNXT....NXT. Good decision......
473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New to Alt-Coins after leaving BTC behind years ago. Any advice? on: June 14, 2015, 10:24:57 AM

waterpile, and bit tired just gave you the only advice worth reading. NXT has a pretty big presence on this form, so you will get a lot of their shills coming soon calling me an idiot, while trashing their competitors XRP and BTS, while providing links to all of their wonderful Assets that have absolutely no volume. This place is often regarded as the trash bin of the forum, so keep that in mind and HAVE FUN!  Wink

That was a sweet move, CK, pre-emptive attack.  Cheesy
NXT is frigging great, tbh, but XRP and BTS aren't actually competitors to NXT: Ripple isn't even a crypto-currency by most definitions, but is a very useful transfer mechanism, and BTS are concentrating on building DAC/DAO applications in a very different way to NXT.

NXT is a completely open system which empowers crypto-users, allowing people to launch their own projects based on NXT with few restrictions. CK may like to sneer at NXT assets, but every asset represents someones pet project, and some assets are performing very well. Some aren't, but that's only to be expected. Most start-up businesses fail in any case, particularly in a Wild West market like crypto, but NXT-based projects and their associated assets seem to be doing well on the whole.

Steering back on-topic: Put a portfolio together: mostly BTC, and a selection out of the top 10 alts.
If you have any belief in the ideals of crypto (decentralisation, open source, anonymity.....) choose LTC, NXT, Doge, maybe DASH.
If you're happier with more corporate, centralised projects, go for XRP, BTS, MaidSafe.

For a truly solid long term investment, though.....I'd choose some '80s classic bikes: early Suzuki GSX-R and the original M Katanas are gonna explode in price soon.
British 70's cars are also looking very good: Jaguar, LandRover/RangeRover, even Lotus are all appreciating nicely.

475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: NXT transfer help - DGEX to Cryptsy on: June 10, 2015, 09:59:21 PM
The only truly important detail is your account number at Cryptsy, the public key is a useful double check but not essential for the transfer, and DGEX doesn't use public keys anyway.
The account number matches up on both sides, so you should be good.

In an ideal world, I'd never transfer from exchange to exchange, as it tends to make getting support questions resolved a bit trickier, but NXT is pretty robust.
Just to warn you that DGEX seems to be a bit wobbly right now, and Cryptsy do sometimes have issues with deposit/withdrawal delays. Good luck.....

Oh, yeah, because the Cryptsy account has only just been created for you, the public key hasnt yet been announced, so it's currently invisible to block explorers.

It certainly means that there are a lot of Lego and wrestling fans who are wondering wtf this crypto-currency business is all about.....

+1 to Nxtblg, makes a lot of sense.
477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt and the rise to the top. on: June 10, 2015, 04:41:42 PM
Being an old bastard, I can remember the video format wars of the late 70's/early 80's....LaserDisc was never a real contender, simply because of the lack of recording functionality. VHS came (ooer!) out on top for one simple reason: cheap (comparatively) VHS cameras and editing gear revolutionised the porn industry and porn then dragged VHS with it to the moon.

Betamax was the superior system in many ways, and was still used until recently in professional applications, but the cost barrier for Betamax cameras prevented it going mainstream in the same way that VHS did.

What does this mean for NXT ? If we apply the lessons of VHS vs Betamax, it's not always the most advanced system that will come out on top. The system that offers the right amount of functionality to the consumer at an affordable price probably has a much better chance of success. Sounds like NXT to me.
(and we really should get into bed with the porn industry...... Grin )

Your analogy is not an appropriate scale.  At least the deemed "failure" Betamax sold 18 million machines.  Bitcoin, according to the Federal Reserve, is only 100,000 users after 6 years (what does that make Bitcoin?) and currently websites like Google Trends and Alexa Rank indicates Bitcoin is losing popularity too.

Honest it's not even a Bitcoin vs NXT thing.  Somebody could literally make an inferior version of Bitcoin and if they had the right connections, marketing and presence on the correct TV shows, they would go viral and it wouldn't take 6 years, wouldn't take 1 year, but only weeks or maybe months to acquire more users than Bitcoin.  If Caitlyn Jenner can get 1 million followers in 4 hours on twitter, anything new can acquire millions of users with the right publicity.

Yep, so I'd be quite happy if Nxt follows Betamax: 25 years of dominance in the professional market would suit me fine.
And if we can ever figure out how to harness Kardashian power for crypto.....maybe we need a reality show.  Grin

This was clearly a promo for NXT at the expense of BTC.  Roll Eyes

Shut up! NXT is the best, best, best, best, best, best, best! All others suck, because NXT is the best, best, best, best, best, best!

fyi: by you doing that. u actually make nxt look stupid.
That may have been the intention....I can't keep track of which lunatic sockpuppet is on which side anymore.

Back to the topic: right now BTC is king, and as the pioneer of serious crypto-currency, I reckon it's gong to be around for a long time yet, barring any disasters.
But Nxt is a frigging amazing system, with a value based on utility. Simply put, you can do a lot more with the basic Nxt core software than with any other crypto.
I'd like to see everyone take a really good look at Nxt, not as a replacement for BTC, but on it's own merits as a system that allows you to do more with your crypto.

BTW: I don't think that any alt is going to replace BTC in the short to medium term (1-5 years), there is simply too much investment in and infrastructure created for BTC.
And BTC works, lets not forget....
I do think that we are going to see increasing adoption of 2nd generation crypto (especially Nxt  Grin), for a lot of user-facing applications, with BTC increasingly becoming a reserve currency (like big lumps of gold) for the entire crypto-currency eco-system.

480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT at PayExpo 2015 on: June 09, 2015, 09:07:35 PM
Ummm......well....*shuffles feet*.......closer to double that, actually. We are sponsoring the event.......

This is one of the benefits of having whales around: if you turn them upside down and shake them,  sometimes donations fall out.
Thanks, guys. You know who you are.

I'd like to point out that PayExpo is the sort of event that every crypto community should try to attend, imho.
Sure, the NXT team are at PayExpo with the interests of NXT in mind, but they are also having to do a lot of education about crypto-currency in general,
directly to the people who are running the current financial systems. This is going to benefit everyone, not only NXT.
We need to engage with the mainstream, and this is a great way to do it.
