1441  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Piggycoin - Bitcoin for Kids - Announces PiggyWeek! on: April 27, 2014, 08:49:12 PM
Jesus H Christ on a bike....what next ?

FoetusCoin ?

I just gave my kids a huge pile of NAS, so they can (relatively truthfully) claim to be millionaires.....
1442  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Fuck Cryptsy, Fuck Cryptsy, Fuck Cryptsy on: April 27, 2014, 08:44:18 PM
Hmmmm...i'll just say that I've done a small amount of trading on Cryptsy, and I'm happy with pretty much everything, only place I've had issues is NXT deposits. Of the last 4 deposits i've made, 2 went as smooth as a smooth thing, one was delayed by 12 hours and the last took 4 days to get sorted. I'd give them 8/10 overall

Still, at least they haven't run away with my precious CraftCoins.

BTW: to those of you who haven't read Viz comic, this is Big Vern:

Look like Chris is out of luck with his bet.....

1443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Marinecoin. Sex Lies and Videotape. Truth, scandal or scam. Thoughts? on: April 27, 2014, 05:47:20 PM
+1 to Vivisector, and even to Marine4u.

I was pleasantly surprised by the almost sane tone of M4U's last post, more of that would make it much easier to take Marinecoin seriously.

Less calling people fools, sock-puppetry and claims of being the last Tsar of Russia, please.
1444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT Coin Security on: April 27, 2014, 05:31:50 PM
Brangdon:

First of all, welcome to NXT, mate.

Second, this is Grandmas thread, last post was at the end of Jan and some things have changed since then, particularly now that NXT has 2 really good, much more secure clients available.

Have a look at NXT's new forum:
https://nxtforum.org/index.php

and take a look at the NXT clients section.
1445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Marinecoin. Sex Lies and Videotape. Truth, scandal or scam. Thoughts? on: April 27, 2014, 12:18:30 AM
Well, that settles that. I've never heard of a Turk with a German passport...... Roll Eyes

Very coherent post, btw.
1446  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum, MaidSafe, NXT, anything else worth investing in, in 2014? on: April 26, 2014, 11:14:10 PM
Insane probably being the most appropriate word used in connection with that IPO.

reposted from:

Going back to the legal aspects: i wouldn't worry about the NSA too much. If they want access, they'll get it. Probably already have, given the age of the project.
And providing that you aren't tagged as a "terrorist" by the US gov, it shouldn't be a problem for the average user or Maidsafe itself

I'd be more worried about Sony, tbh. Every dropbox system ever created has been used by the warez scene (remember the Yahoo Briefcase, godabuzz fans?) and an encrypted, decentralised, anonymous storage system certainly offers possiblities for the illegal sharing of copyright content.
If Sony (or any other big music/software/movie company) felt that MS was stepping on their toes in any way, the central core of the MS project will be an easy legal target, and Sony has resources that make the $12 million (?) from the IPO look like coffee money.
.
The same problem also arises with law enforcement /police agencies: individual users may well be able to remain relatively anonymous, but the public head of the MS project is always going to be an easy target.

Any MS guys with ideas about this ?
I am currently seen as the public head (not for long if I succeed). We have just spread this across the planet. It is all open, all owned by everyone and will be very difficult to stop. So now there is no public head, no company at the centre, this is decentralisation of the whole system. In terms of being infiltrated etc. if you knew anything at all about me (I am not being cheeky here) then you would know this was impossible for me to allow. If I quit all of a sudden then worry, I never and the code is our there. Many eyes are being trained on this now, many devs are to receive training from us and others to develop the core.

I am not money driven, so a hard target, no amount of cash could buy me off when I can see the face of some child who would be disadvantaged by not doing this. We are single entities us humans and part of a species. It is our individual duty to protect and further the species. If you can remove greed from your person you are already protected beyond belief. If the target becomes more than money, then that's the risk we take. I choose to accept that risk gladly.

My well being is irrelevant to the world when all is taken into account. The opportunity for a free privacy enhancing and secure mechanism of information transfer and protection is way more important than any single person or team. Knowing this, absolutely and with 100% conviction makes you a very difficult adversary for those who would choose to stop freedom. I believe this stance is an easy one for people to follow and adopt, the greed stance is so last century, more of us can count now, more of us are educated and more of us are building project SAFE each day.

I doubt there will be any backdoors, there may be attacks, we seen all the mt gox lies and deceit already spewed about , that only works with weak minds, I do not believe society is made up of weak minds. We can see now our eyes are opening and the path ahead should be clear. Lets take our Internet back for a start, a very small start, but a start never the less. We are taking these steps now, everyone is welcome to join, we can be legions for change and we all know this is an inevitability, no need to wonder. We will take back our freedom and dignity.

Backdoor that :-)

1447  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: April 26, 2014, 11:06:40 PM
Would it be possible to distribute the stakes slowly, lets say within 1 or 2 months time to avoid dumping too fast ?
I would not mind to wait for a while to get my stake.

This is clearly a good idea. I approve Wink

Very bad idea. People who will get the coins later will get screwed, while early ones pocket the money selling coins.  There will still be dumping, but only early ones would be making money, while those who come later will be left holding the bags,.

How would we trust the developers aren't picking themselves and their friends first?  They are already getting 10% of stakes, so they will have plenty to sell while  rest watch and wait.

If this system is adapted, I want to see provable/verifiable random mechanism.   That is, Sha256  (BTT account ID) then use that result in a java's Math.random as a seed. No special favors for developers.

+1

All NEM released at the same time, as far as is technically feasible.
Having said that it shouldn't matter when you get your coins, unless you are planning to dump immediately......which I'm certainly not.
Think long term, guys, not just grab 'em and dump 'em.

Thats me out.
Idealism is good, blind naivety not.
If you think that MS will make a real contribution to freedom in a world where many people are quite happy to kill their neighbours because of a slight difference in skin colouration/religious affiliation/ethnic background then you are sadly mistaken.

I'd prefer to see MS being based on blind greed, tbh.

And the point about being infiltrated is that the infiltrators rarely ask permission beforehand.
If MS comes up on the intelligence communities radar, they will get in somehow. Remember Stuxnet? Echelon? Snowden?
But, like I said earlier, I think you'll have more problems from Sony or possibly the cops.
1449  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT coin - A total scam? on: April 26, 2014, 01:10:16 PM
well lease forging will be coming up soon .... so your 20k nxt can now earn you 0.00001 nxt.
I won't be sure what to do with all that money afterwards.  Roll Eyes

Not a private island in the Maldives, then ?

(BTW, not sure you should write Maidsafe off because of a slightly dodgy IPO. I'm not an MS fan at all, and I see a couple of big issues with it, but ignoring it because of the crypto worlds current obsession with 'fair' distribution might be a mistake)
1450  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT coin - A total scam? on: April 26, 2014, 01:06:42 PM
I really think people should try doing some research before investing their money into a currency/coin/whatever.

NXT forging is not mining. It's really no more than collecting transaction fees.
Right now the forging return from NXT is close to nothing, even when NXT becomes massive, forging income will still only be enough to be comparable to a high-interest conventional bank account.
NXT investors can/will get rich, not by creating new coins out of thin air + electricity, but from the increase in NXT's own value and by investment in NXT based businesses.
NXT (and its second gen competitors) are a new paradigm in crypto....so adapt or die.

It's 2014, kids, burning coal to make electronic tokens is sooooo 2010.  Grin
1451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT coin - A total scam? on: April 25, 2014, 04:58:46 PM
Even with NxT so low, the few NxT whales who went in with nothing are still millionaires.

Yeah, bitches, nothing worse than other people getting rich, eh?
And what are we hoping for with NEM, i wonder....
That's just butthurt thinking and jealousy.
Some people win lotteries, should we all go round to their houses and ask for a 'fair' share?
1452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT coin - A total scam? on: April 25, 2014, 04:28:57 PM
SCAM or not? Maybe we will have the answer within 1 or 2 years.

You have the answer now: NXT is not a scam. Really. It is genuine, innovative and backed by a real dev team and community.
Like all coins so far, some fat bastards who don't deserve it will get rich, but there a lot of other guys who will also make money out of it.
You could, if you have the sense to buy in now.....

BTW: HarryPotterCoin ? Can I have some....
http://www.buysilver.org/blog/harry-potter-bullion-coins/
You're backing this up on what? Words?
For all I know you could be part of the scheme (if there is one; I'm not say that there is).

I am part of the scheme, mate. I've been balls-deep in NXT since Xmas 2013 (just in time to miss out on an original stake  Sad ) and I've seen exactly whats been going on with NXT development and the NXT community over that time.
If NXT is a scam, it's the most complex, well-thought-out scam ever.
Use Ockhams Razor here:
Which is the most likely, that NXT is a genuine attempt to create a new crypto-currency (and financial eco-system) or that NXT is the worlds most complicated scam ?

Just take a look at:
https://nxtforum.org/
Why the hell would people go to all that effort to create a scam, when you could earn a lot more by just pumping out BTC/LTC clones with a twist ?

Think about it......genuine attempt or massively complex scam ?
At the end of the day, you'll have to decide for yourself.
I made my decision on "NXT: scam or not" almost 5 months ago and I'm going to see it through to the end.
1453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT coin - A total scam? on: April 25, 2014, 03:41:58 PM
this is nothing more than a pyramid scheme.

And your point is......?
It'd be nice to see some of the reasoniing behind your post, or do you believe that all cryptos are pyramid schemes ?

1454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Nxt is the future? on: April 25, 2014, 03:15:13 PM
Currency, even gold, has always been fiat in the literal sense, fiat being faith.  There has been too many scandals in the NxT camp to make it a currency.

NEM will be a contender for a currency based on a combination of innovation and distribution to 3000 stakeholders.  We already have more activity on BTT at our pre-launch stage than NxT had in 2013.

I'm so not getting into a NXT vs NEM debate, as I have a stake in both......but which scandals ?
Using this reasoning Bitcoin can never make it as a currency.

NXTs original distribution could have been better, but don't forget that NXT was very much a pioneer with its IPO.
After NXT launched last November, an IPO became the flavour of the month and now pretty much every new crypto launches with an IPO-like structure.
But despite all of the effort that various devs have put in to make a "fair" IPO people still complain, and I can bet u all of the money in the universe that NEM will also get hassled for it's IPO/initial distribution.....and, btw, we both know that NEM does not have 3000 unique, individual stakeholders. I'd guess more like a 1000. Remember the guy who claimed to have 100 NEM stakes and was busy selling them off at 0.25 BTC per stake ?

Any other scandals to address ?

There was one troll who claimed 100 and that's your proof that 2000 stakes were fake?  Dubious claim you made and even if it were true (not ) it's still a better distribution than every other alt.

NxT had 73 initial wallets and majority was owned by 20 who each invested 1.5 BTC each, the reason we don't encounter many NxT whales is probably because those 20 wallets were really 5 people at most.

Obscure IPOs like NxT will always have more sockpuppets than smaller distributions involving more people

Chill yr boots, TS. It's a guess, time will tell. Dont think i'm all that wrong, though.

What NXT is going to become, (if things go as planned) ir the 'One Ring' of crypto:
NXT will rule them all.

With AE and gateways in place, all other cryptos can be traded from within the NXT system.......no more need for exchanges, no more MtGox, CryptoRush, etc. situations.
Trustless, decentralised trading will make centralised exchanges obselete in the medium to long term.
Couple this with the ability to issue assets over the AE:  people will able to create pretty much any kind of virtual asset from within NXT.
Why go to the trouble of creating, for example, a new coin from the ground up, when you can issue anything you can imagine on top of the NXT blockchain?

But surely NXT has no more power to be the 'one' than even one of its clones. If everyone gets on board with NEM then why would people need to go to NXT? Plus people might chose different platforms to do the same things. Some NXT, Some NEM, some NXTL. Many might use a few of them.

NEM seems to be heading in a different direction to NXT, concentrating more on first gen features (ie using it like money) whereas NXT is concentrating on its 2nd generation functinality, such as the AE and other advanced applications.

But, yeah, in principle, any NXT clone could become the 'One Ring', providing they can actually implement the advanced feature set. Look at how NAS went: a very badly implemented clone that seems to have been little more than an attempt to cash in on NXT.
Don't forget that there is a hell of a lot of development work and infrastructure creation going into NXT right now, while most NXT clones are still figuring out how to launch.

One of the basic concepts behind NXT is that NXT will offer such a range of features that people simply won't need to look beyond the NXT system.

One thing for sure, the next few months are going to be very interesting in the 2nd gen crypto world.
(Just for clarity: I'm a NEM stakeholder, so I would be quite happy to see NEM succeed.)

27% of the people  the poll say something else is the host investment for 2014, well what is it?
Bitcoin  Grin

+ 1 to phelix, Bitcoin isn't going away any time soon, and now is a good moment to buy more in....

The same goes for NXT, which is (almost certainly) going to blow up like crazy once the Asset Exchange comes online in 2 weeks, and people realise what a complete game-changer AE is.

And I have a feeling that BitShares are also going to be worth holding on to.
