Well Trump definitely is not the richest person in the USA - there are too many people that are richer than him but yes while others are afraid to play the system to benefit themselves against the IRS, Trump seems to be wriggling out of everything except making token tax return payments of $750 per year.

Others are not politicians. Politicians are fair and honest....

Really?

Just unbelievable that any prospective or sitting President could do that when so many citizens are on the poverty line....

Wriggling?

Aren't you pointing to a problem if not in your own understanding and prejudice or inclination, then with the IRS?

They audit and correct tax returns all the time. I think I'll take their opinion on the returns in question rather than yours, as to whether it was done correctly.

Trump loves the United States, so he will naturally take actions that benefit the United States, including trying to get a safe vaccine approved as quickly as possible while maintaining safety. Every day that goes by without a safe vaccine, is one more day that millions of Americans are harmed due to lack of job opportunities, and excessive stress, and millions of American children are harmed because of lack of education (zoom learning is basically worthless), and lack of ability to socialize in school.

If a vaccine is available before election day, there is an argument that vaccines should be available at polling stations.

To draw analogies, today climate science shows very well the dangers and errors of "politicized science." Decades ago, there was the case of Lysencho in the Soviet Union, and the incorrect understanding of genetics that was propagated because it was politically correct.

Crypto is still the solution. A unique series of large numbers HD from a primary key can all spell a YES vote, and another series can spell a NO vote. But looking at them on a piece of paper, a schemer cannot tell which is which.

Perfect security is easily possible.
If you know that many people in neighbored "x" are registered republicans, a democratic operative could go to that neighborhood to help them get to a point before they actually cast a vote, and tell them they have cast their vote, leading them to believe they have voted when in fact they have not.
...
Around here a democratic operative that tried that would have a really, really bad day. A voter could determine his records on the blockchain, and then complaint that he had not voted, when the blockchain showed he had. Remember, the blockchain is a public record.

Of course, the proof of the assertion I made is that it would withstand the test of hundreds of imaginative gaming attempts to refute the premise. One or another attempts shows a weakness, then the initiative is revised. Considerable work on voting records in blockchain has been done.

Still, politically there is an adage: Approve and implement nothing that isn't corruptible.

We're not going to know who the winner is on election day if the polls continue to tighten up so litigation is what's going to end up happening. Also, let's not act like in 2016 it wasn't liberals sending death threats to state electors to force them to be faithless and pledge their vote for Clinton when she lost.
The advent of BLM's influence, and their ability to produce propaganda and fear has rendered polls less useful. Nearly 2/3 of Americans are afraid to share their political views. I would say the polls will likely not reflect the electorate, nor the outcome of the election.

Even mail in ballots could be cryptographically secured and attributable to individual voters using a blockchain, thus creating a system where this type of abuse was not possible.
The issue is not as much that one person is voting multiple times, the issue with mail-in voting is that political activists and operatives will put undue pressure on voters to vote a certain way, and that operatives can identify voters likely to vote a certain way, collect those votes and "lose" those votes.

I'm glad that acronym got wider use coz it truly is what they do. I keep seeing these nutjobs' antics in my feed and it's just frustrating and depressing. These are violent mobs and the states aren't even punishing them for destroying livelihood and killing people.

It'd be priceless to hear the behind-the-scenes discussions between the puppet Demo mayors and governors and their back-room power brokers on this issue.
547  Other / Politics & Society / Re: USA PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS 2020: Michael Moore says Trump on course to win ! on: September 27, 2020, 09:54:23 PM
I never looked at it from that perspective before. He does seem to be obsessed with using brute force to quell protests.

We know who is obsessed with guns and ammo... Well, except for Trump, apparently he hates guns : https://news.yahoo.com/michael-cohen-reveals-trump-hates-083500509.html

Obsessed with using brute force to quell protests?

Not exactly what's occurred here in the USA.
548  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Presidential Election: Trump Will Not Commit to Peaceful Transfer of Power on: September 27, 2020, 09:51:00 PM
Even if those states are purposely implementing methods and procedures for various reasons, there is no certainty that those implementations will benefit Biden over Trump.

Trump is a complete narcissist, he believes in his own over-inflated value and ego therefore I do not know why he is getting concerned about this because as long as he holds the states he won in 2016 he will be re-elected.

If you look back at the last dozen presidents or so, they do have odd personalities.

Narcissism is quite likely to be found in a majority of successful politicians. It's an interesting trait. In moderate amounts it will help make a successful public figure, and if too extreme, it has negative effects.

And note the "I'm doing it"... doesn't it conjure up a picture of Trump in a lab coat? j/k

Bush Jr. in his pressurized flight suit, now Trump in his lab coat? Actually you may have something there. The day of the vaccine release, Trump in his lab coat...

550  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Chump: a Dimwit Man-Child made President on: September 27, 2020, 08:09:05 PM
The normal process is several years of testing for a vaccine. "Rushing" is pretty much the same whether the release to the public is in October or 2021 Jan - March whatever. In both cases it's "rushed out."

I'm not technically familiar with the series of tests that create the timeframes, but if they say they can get it out to the public reasonably safely, sounds good to me. Leave it to the medical professionals to figure the details.

There is no election in March and given the current progress of phase 3 tests the timeline is far more realistic so there's quite a bit of difference. The only way a vaccine could get approved before the election is some sort of emergency authorization bypassing phase 3. It would be a bad idea to make such a vaccine available to the general public. There might be some plausible limited use scenarios... but then again, there are phase 3 trials underway involving tens of thousands of subjects so Trump might as well brag about that instead of making dangerous statements like the intent to override FDA decisions.

Now can you convince Trump to leave it to the professionals?

I hope you will forgive me for carefully researching the facts instead of taking them as totally true as presented. Here is a decent writeup I think of the issue. It doesn't look like it would be Trump that would do the EUA. FYI I've never believed in this particular vaccine effort and thought it was more like getting the public to believe a "cure it all" was going to come from the scientists. More like a "Have faith" issue.

The current pace of phase 3 clinical trials means that the FDA might not have enough evidence of safety and efficacy to grant full approval to a Covid-19 vaccine before November.

Instead, the agency may invoke an emergency use authorization, or EUA, for a vaccine. This provision gives the FDA wide latitude to allow health providers to use approaches during a public health emergency that have a likely benefit. That’s a much lower bar than is needed for conventional approval, which requires a demonstrated health benefit with completed clinical trials.

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn said that his agency is open to the idea of issuing an EUA for a vaccine, bypassing phase 3 trials, but companies would have to take the lead. “It is up to the sponsor [vaccine developer] to apply for authorisation or approval, and we make an adjudication of their application,” Hahn told the Financial Times on August 30. “If they do that before the end of phase 3, we may find that appropriate. We may find that inappropriate, we will make a determination.”

Does anybody care about what Hillary Clinton says?

And if Biden has a mega team of lawyers to file a lawsuit disputing the results if he loses, then Trump would also have the same thing prepared too.

This is definitely going to Court, that is what the signs indicate.

If so, that's due to several states implementing, purposefully, procedures and methods that maximize uncertainty of outcome, and which maximize the possibility of stealing the election through litigation.

And that's the Democrats doing that.

Theres plenty of articles siting racism sexism and discrimination amongst the Uber board of directors. Was that not enough for you to stop using uber before? ....

I don't care whether someone does or does not use uber.

But if there's been repeated claims of racism, sexism and discrimination then that's illegal.

They should be investigated and charges filed as appropriate.

So.... there is no pressure but if there is then it's normal because Obama but there is no pressure because Trump hasn't fired the head of the FDA yet. Is this the position that's supposed to instill confidence that the vaccine would not be rushed for political/election reasons?

That doesn't quite cut it for me but let's call it a difference of opinion.

The normal process is several years of testing for a vaccine. "Rushing" is pretty much the same whether the release to the public is in October or 2021 Jan - March whatever. In both cases it's "rushed out."

Hillary Clinton also said to Joe Biden that under no circumstances should he concede the election. Biden has also hired a mega team of lawyers that will absolutely file a lawsuit on election day to keep counting mail in ballots if he isn't determined the clear and obvious winner.

Oh.. I got it.

It is going to be a repeat of the 2008 United States Senate election in Minnesota. It happened 12 years ago, but the dramatics are still fresh in my mind.  Grin

The GOP candidate (Norm Coleman) had won the election in the first count. Then mysteriously, "uncounted" ballots (obviously all in favor of the Democrat candidate Al Franken) were being "discovered" in dust bins, gyms, fast food stores.etc. A Democrat official infamously stated that "we will count and count until Franken wins". And in the end, Franken was declared the winner, after sufficient number of "uncounted" ballots were produced.

Even mail in ballots could be cryptographically secured and attributable to individual voters using a blockchain, thus creating a system where this type of abuse was not possible.

I'd be okay with a federal law or policy mandating such secure methods, even though most issues of voting are up to the states and should be.

I mean -- you did note the part that he had losses that were so large up to that point that it was being carried forward to offset income in further years. So is that really something we have to sit here and debate about? He lost money at some point and the tax code said that he could carry that loss forward to offset income.

Nothing wrong with that. Even if the 'loophole' was closed in later years (this is what I had read at somepoint, not sure on the source) Nothing was actually illegal here, right?

Even to claim that a carry-forward of losses is a "loophole" is ridiculous. So everyone that's in a business now with Covid, they are almost all showing losses for 2020.

And it's a "moral question" as to their using a "loophole" and carry forwarding those losses?

Really?

that's so silly. Ivanka is making it.
559  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Presidential Election: Trump Will Not Commit to Peaceful Transfer of Power on: September 25, 2020, 04:23:10 PM
I agree, Trump was very inarticulate... regularly.

This is an example of Trump not being articulate. Trump was reserving the right to pursue all available legal actions to ensure that voters are not disenfranchised from Democratic voter fraud.

I would also refer you to Hilary Clinton's statement to Biden advising him to not concede "under any circumstances".
Agree completely. Trump isn't articulate, quite often.

He's also publicly stated he's not trying and not intending to be politically correct.

So what do you think? Should we require a POTUS candidate to be politically correct? Should we require him to use 50 pronouns? Raise his arm to salute Black Lives Matter?
560  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Tax Avoidance: Shrewd Smart Businessman or Deserves Jail Time? on: September 25, 2020, 04:19:23 PM
Tax avoidance is covered within loopholes ...
Does a businessman taking advantage of tax loopholes deserve to be US President?

or

Does a businessman taking advantage of tax loopholes deserve to be US President because is clever to legally exploit the system?

Huh? What are you talking about?

A businessman hires a tax accountant. He reads the tax code and applies it to the circumstances of the business, and files papers and pays tax accordingly.

That was done here. Where's your beef?
