601  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining ring with multiple GTX 1070s / 1070ti GPUs. Is it worth it? on: May 24, 2018, 05:36:14 AM
Hello,

Over a year ago, I used to mine just for fun with GTX 970ti. I stopped mining for almost a year. Recently, I purchased a GTX 1070 GPU and installed Nicehash 2.0, to "test" my new GPU. I was surprised to see that it can only make $1.40-$1.50 per day without overclocking (up to $1.70 with overclocking). I also tried to mine ETH and ETC in Nanopool, but the results were much worse.

Since the energy cost in my area is relatively low (~$0.07), I was thinking about building a small mining rig with "Titanium" or "Platinum" PSU and 4-5 GTX 1070/1070ti GPUs. My goal is to be able to mine ALT coins for ~$10 per day. I'm just not sure if a ring with a few GTX 1070 GPUs will be powerful enough nowadays for mining. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It's powerful enough for TODAY. But for next month, who knows? There seems to be a ton of risks factors facing GPU miners right now and i feel the GPU mining market will become obsolete once mining matures.

You probably don't need Titanium rated PSUs, along with it's hefty pricetag. The platinum PSUs are already good enough as they are.
602  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Buying another GPU - What's your pick? on: May 23, 2018, 03:28:01 AM
Why is everyone recommending a 1080ti or any Nvidia card for that matter? Seems crazy with ETH/ Equihash Asics on the way, X16R profits drying up and new Gen 11 series cards expected in July.

Right now you can pick up an 8gb 580 for around $300 USD( Newegg) or you can pick up a 1080ti for $850.

-An 8gb 580 does around 1kh/s @ 100-120w on CNheavy. So on coins Loki or Haven you would be making around $2.50 per day.
-On Whattotime it looks like the most profitable coin for a 1080ti is Zencash making around $3.20 per day( And using more power than the 580 on CNheavy)

1080ti = 265 day ROI( gross)
8gb RX580= 120 day ROI ( Gross).

Based on your calculations it may seem like the RX580 is the best option and is most probably the case for "regular" home miners. But when you start considering large scale mining operations when efficiency and density is a factor, the 1080ti may be a better option. The 1080ti offers more hash power, less power consumption, less fixed costs on motherboards/cpus/ram/etc, and even higher resale value.
603  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The PCI-e needs power? on: May 23, 2018, 03:05:50 AM
In a way yes, I have 6 rx 580 and two power supplies of 1000w, but I would like the 6 to work with a single power supply

Because that way I avoid having to bridge the power suplies

You are risking your GPUs, entire mining rig, and even your house by running 6x 580s on a single 1000w PSU. Even with BIOS mods and extreme undervolting, you still risk overloading your PSU and it may explode or catch fire. Either sell those 2 PSUs and get a good quality 1200w PSU or simply bridge both of your power supplies.

Trying to save on power consumption by eliminating PCIE connections is also not an option.
604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LIQUID Platform -- 17 exchanges connected in the same order book on: May 23, 2018, 02:44:33 AM
The Liquid platform seems like a very risky investment.

The pictures on the websites alone seem to be an indication of poor or lack of a business development plan. Why would you want to show people that your team is made up of kids as developers? The pictures of the team are so candidly staged in an attempt to establish it is a real company but it is so transparent. Why waste space on establishing this is real when a real platform would have instead focused on, professionalism and security.

Also, why would the "17 other exchanges" agree to connect to this platform? Aside from security being a big concern, exchanges would want to keep trading fees to themselves. This would end up costing the user more because Liquid will charge a trading fee, and other platforms would charge a trading fee, DOUBLE the cost to trade here.

I smell hype/pump/dump. Caveat.
605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New mining setup on: May 23, 2018, 01:54:42 AM
FPGAa are only rumors for me for now. They may become real players or they may not. Speculations.

I beg to differ, there are already people running FPGAS. Just read the threads posted on these forums. FPGAs are already upon us. They will only be released to the mainstream public onnly once they are no longer extremely profitable and everyone will be buying hand me downs.

Thanks guys, I just bought 5x Sapphire RX 580 Nitro +.

Ouch. You better start praying that you get more time to mine on those. GPU miners are on borrowed time because of all the threats of ASICs, ETH POS, FPGAs, and even the incoming new series of 2018 NVIDIA GPUs.
606  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining with Hard Drive? on: May 22, 2018, 06:26:52 AM
Made me lol:
That said... I met some of my best crypto friends online burst mining... We have one thing in common... we are all idiots.

With all thats been said, i recently got into Burst mining with a single 8TB HDD. I figured if nothing happens to Burst i would at least repurpose it as a NAS storage for our home movies. I still think it's a good way to diversify and make the most out of your mining rig too. Imagine having a 19-GPU rig with HDD mining on the side. Talk about maximizing efficiency. Another good thing is that if GPUs start to become obsolete, HDDs could be next best thing to earn passive income.

I just wonder how long the motherboards or HDDs would last while power all the hardware connected to it.
607  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IOST Campaign has open its doors one more time, Read more.. ! on: May 22, 2018, 05:42:12 AM
I am one of the participant of IOST campaign which was held for four weeks. I already published the results of this campaign earlier where IOST has risen from 200 satoshi's all upto the 800 satoshi's which was all time high after its campaign.

Now the question is, they have again started their campaign and is it likely that we will see huge pump for the IOST one more time?

Will it cross over the rates of 1000 Satoshi's ? As it is already trading at 600 Satoshi's now and thus it would be far easy for it to cover the next 400 satoshi and meet ATH of 1K Satoshi.

The problem is knowing whether or not the campaign was actually directly correlated with the increase in value of IOST.

I am also part of the campaign and i am also hopeful, but being an analytical person, i can't help but think that there could have been other reasons for the pump in value. One for which would be the fact that when the campaign launched, it was actually IOST's debut to the market and as you've probably seen, new coins have a tendency to steeply rise and fall in value during their first week on the market.

Although, i am hopeful that my analysis is wrong and IOST reaches 1k sats. Smiley
608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: May 22, 2018, 03:21:30 AM
Here I found something interesting randomly:

"Dr. Randy Huang, FPGA Architect, Intel Programmable Solutions Group, and one of the co-authors, states, “Deep learning is the most exciting field in AI because we have seen the greatest advancement and the most applications driven by deep learning. While AI and DNN research favors using GPUs, we found that there is a perfect fit between the application domain and Intel’s next generation FPGA architecture. We looked at upcoming FPGA technology advances, the rapid pace of innovation in DNN algorithms, and considered whether future high-performance FPGAs will outperform GPUs for next-generation DNNs. Our research found that FPGA performs very well in DNN research and can be applicable in research areas such as AI, big data or machine learning which requires analyzing large amounts of data. The tested Intel Stratix 10 FPGA outperforms the GPU when using pruned or compact data types versus full 32 bit floating point data (FP32). In addition to performance, FPGAs are powerful because they are adaptable and make it easy to implement changes by reusing an existing chip which lets a team go from an idea to prototype in six months—versus 18 months to build an ASIC.”"

That was from last year.  In fact, more than a year ago.  Bitmain is going after AI.  AI is deeplearning.  Self driving cars.  Recognition software.  Billions of dollars.

Bitmain is going to eat NVIDIAs lunch.  I would invest in Bitmain if I still was in finance.

Even if you were in finance, Bitmain would need to be public for you to invest. Seeing the way the operate they would probably have no need for public funding and would rather keep the money within themselves. Or is there a way to invest in bitmain? Buying ASICs seems to only be a way to get fucked by Bitmain.

I completely agree with you though, AI is the future and Bitmain will be a big player based on the direction they are going.
609  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Everyone oblivious to what just happened. on: May 22, 2018, 03:12:28 AM
The whole market bled money. Except for one coin.
The big players pulled out and as the FUDDERS sold their coin they quietly bought up ripple. Then let is sit and let the drop price further. Then bought up some more.

They are finished now. The market is gaining value. They have their ripple, and the price is sitting nice.

Something big is about to happen to XRP in 2018.

You just witnessed the start of the big move from 1st gen to 2nd gen crypto.

A laudable attempt at gaining attention, but in the end Ripple is still nothing compared to Bitcoin or Ethereum.

There simply has been too much drama behind Ripple and they have lost investor trust and confidence. You're just really blowing off farts like every other newbie account here shillinng the future of every other shitcoin. If you ever had any valuable insider information i'm confident Ripple's value would have already increased. Tellingly, it's still in the dumps at 8k sats.
610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can regular people mine anymore on: May 22, 2018, 02:34:23 AM
I dont get why I see these threads over and over. Im pulling almost $30 a day ETH or 600 + RVN coins. 12 cards. 5 RX 580 Saphire Nitro + Special Edition, 5 EVAG 1080's, 1 EVAG 1080 ti FTW3 and one MSI 1070ti

$30 a day with ETH those 12 GPUs? Sure you are.. I highly doubt it.

Anyway what you need to consider is not TODAY but the NEXT MONTH (June) because that is when the first batch of Z9 ASICs arrive and that is probably also when NVIDIA may announce the new series of 1100 GPUs. Z9 ASICs will reduce profitability and new GPUs will surely reduce the value of your old GPUs.

Add to that the threat of Ethereum switching from POW to POS, then you have a massive shit storm coming to miners. Probably not a good idea to start mining right now.
611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: May 21, 2018, 07:31:01 AM
-snip-

the 16 card had a special back plane and run not stop in a 95f room for 5 weeks zero issues rock solid gear.
Just not that efficient.

a 19 card build   with carefully tweaked risers  would be  better power wise, but  if all 1080ti's it would be hard to power or cool.
it would pull over 3000 watts more like 3500.  It would need 2 delta 2400 watt plus'

We are talking about the 19-GPU motherboard that is ASUS B250 Mining Expert right?

How do you figure that it would be hard to power 13pcs of 1080ti and 6pcs of p102 mining GPUs? I am of the impression that the ASUS B250 already has built-in ATX adapters capable of supporting up to 3 PSUs. Do motherboards have a maximum electrical load or are problematic with high powered rigs? I've only mostly run 1070s and 470s in the past.
612  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: May 21, 2018, 03:57:37 AM
This year I am no longer focusing on what gear to use.

But how to expand my cheap reliable power.

If the new focus is on surviving and counting on cheaper reliable power, what do you guys think about optimizing mining rigs with 19-GPU builds?

From what i've seen most are simply running 13-GPU rigs with pure or mixed AMD / NVIDIA GPUs but i believe true efficiency lies in maximizing the 19-GPU capable ASUS B250 mining expert motherboard. With 19 GPU builds you save on electricity by running less motherboards, CPUs, SSDs, etc.

Has anyone had any experience in using p106/p104 mining cards to build truly efficient 19-GPU rigs?

I did have my hands on a 16 card beast  did a review  but it had the p106  which is like the 1060 it is simply not that efficient.

the p102 is better but is costly

https://www.tweaktown.com/news/61173/nvidia-p102-100-crypto-mining-card-5gb-gddr5x/index.html

it is a modded 1080ti.  I would have loved to have had the p102 that they were looking to build I may have kept it after the review.

When it becomes more available to the public, i agree that the p102 will be a much better option.

But i'm also interested in stability. Don't know exactly where i read it from, but some have said that 19-GPU builds are a pain to build and are a hassle to maintain? Does this mean 19-GPU builds regularly crash or require more constant attention compared to regular 13-GPU builds?

614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Onboard M.2 Storage on: May 21, 2018, 12:34:59 AM
Also got curious about M.2 vs SSD as storage devices, particularly with mining rigs as a use case.

It seems that while a 250GB M.2 SSD is more expensive ($200+ range) compared to the standard 2.5" SSD ($50-70) and they don't differ much in anything else except size. The only thing m.2 has going for it is the small form factor. Speeds aren't as fast, and as i've been reading from articles online, power consumption is better on normal SSDs.
615  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Buying another GPU - What's your pick? on: May 20, 2018, 11:44:45 PM
Enough money to buy any reasonably priced GPU up to GTX 1080 Ti. What would you buy right now for mining? Already have multi-GPU AMD and Nvidia.

I would go for the 1080ti for a couple of good reasons:

1. it's the best in terms of hashrate / power consumption ratio
2. it's more "future proof" compared to other GPUs because its relatively new
3. you'll get more density with your mining rigs and overall spend less on motherboards, cpus, etc.
616  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] IOS - Signature & Avatar Campaign | Up to $150/week in BTC & Tokens! on: May 18, 2018, 06:16:55 AM
Hey everyone! I'd like to thank you all for your patience over this past week. I am happy to announce on behalf of the IOST team that the campaign is being extended until the end of June.

In light of that, there are a few changes going forward that I'd like to go over.

First, payments will be adjusted every week to the USD denominated values of IOST and BTC listed in the original post. I'm sure this will come as a disappointment to some, but keep in mind that price volatility can swing both ways (as we have seen in crypto markets over the past week!).

Additionally, while the team is happy so many of you are eager to help spread the word about IOS, the campaign is being scaled back slightly for this next round. Unfortunately, this means that not everyone who is currently enrolled will continue as part of the campaign. I will announce the updated participant list this Saturday so people have a chance to see this post.

Finally, those of you who were part of the campaign and have since removed your information/applied for other campaigns, please indicate to me whether you would like to be considered for the upcoming round, either by posting here or PMing me.

As before, the campaign is still closed to new participants.

Thank you for the update, Madz. We're glad to hear from you and look forward to working more with you and the IOST team to promote the coin.

I would still like to be considered for the remainder of the campaign extension.
617  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fair online casino? on: May 16, 2018, 11:55:49 PM
what makes you trust an online casino?
 Huh Huh

I'm not very picky when it comes to casinos and as long as they have been in operation for quite some time then i'm good. Seeing that a casino has been running for a number of months means that they've really been paying out customers, and with new online casinos that is pretty much the biggest risk. Some people build fake casinos and close down the website as soon as they gather enough deposits.

If you're looking for concrete recommendations i'd go with FortuneJack. Good luck!
618  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: “BTCP to replace monero as the top privacy coin” John macafee on: May 15, 2018, 01:44:24 AM
Funnny how despite this huge shill attempt, BTCP price has stayed the same. In fact, it's even at par to one of it's all time lows.

First no exchanges support it, now this constant dumpinng.. Someone must really hate the BitcoinPrivate project or the team behind it. I would normally say this could be a good buying opportunity but with all thats happening, i don't know what to think anymore.
619  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX 1070 error code 43 [Windows 10 x64] on: May 12, 2018, 01:12:45 AM
Try to reinstall Windows (you can try Windows 7) put the driver not the last with them for all errors. Put for example 23.21.13.9077. It must be all right.

Whoa! No need to jump the gun and immediately reinstall windows. Just try reinstalling the latest NVIDIA drivers first.

There are various reasons as to why code 43 error comes out. We will be able to help you once you provide more information. What version of driver and windows 10 are you using? Did you try reconnecting the cables (riser/psu/gpu)? How many GPUs do you have attached?
620  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as savings, emergency needs possible? on: May 11, 2018, 12:43:22 AM
By nature of the English language alone, bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general would not be a good emergency fund.

Why? Emergency funds often allude to an urgent need for money that is easily accessible. With bitcoin and crypto, you may have to go through the process of sending and converting your coins to cash/credit. Not to mention you will be forced to sell at whatever market price regardless of whether it is a good trade or not.

A better alternative as an emergency fund would be a credit card or cold hard cash stored underneath your bed.
