Have a confirmation as a reminder is better than don't have it but it won't help careless people. They will continue to make mistakes and overspend bigger than the number of sMerit they want to send. Like they skip a reminder if they send a same number of merit to a same post within a short time like 15 or 30 seconds (I don't remember exactly the span triggers this reminder).
The merit cool down time is not a reminder, it makes it impossible to send merits to the same post within the time frame. That time frame is 60 seconds.

There has been a sharp drop in complaints about double spending merits to the exact same post since the cooldown time was implemented so it's safe to say that it had an effect.
702  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Apart from the bitcoin core, are there any other way to store bitcoin? on: September 28, 2023, 06:24:26 AM
In light of this, I want to know if there is any other way to store bitcoin besides downloading the core. And which is safer.
There are many other secure wallets you can use to store and send bitcoins. Your choice will depend on;
• If the wallet is non custodian and if you are peculiar about autonomy (which you should be),
• If you intend to buy and hold altcoins along with Bitcoin, some wallets are exclusively for Bitcoin,
• If the wallet is open source and verifiable.

Electrum hits two out of the three points cause it is non custodian and open source.

How safe you wallet is depends on how you interact with it.
703  Economy / Economics / Re: Diversification in Global reserves. on: September 27, 2023, 08:41:08 PM
The US dollar has lost 98% of its purchasing power since 1971 and has gone through an 8% decline in its shares of global reserves in 2021. Now the thing is, if the USD continues to face inflation this much, do you think the Global reserve would be worth anything much in the future?
For one, it has not been a case of steady decline, there has been some points in the past 50 years where the value of the USD has increased but it has mostly suffered from inflation over the years but still a bit of a way to go to bring worth zero.
Those researves are also not solely held in USD there are several precious stones and other assets Wich make it up.

Gold seems like a fine option, considering how its purchasing power, remains more stable over time, but do you think cryptocurrency stands a chance?
Asbabgolbak reserve currency, it's a long short. It is possible that Bitcoin gets used experimentally by one of two countries but we are a very long way from a full scale global adoption as a reserve currency if ever.
704  Economy / Reputation / Re: Modifying quotes to push false narratives. Yay or nay? on: September 27, 2023, 06:17:04 AM
I have been notified that I was quoted about two or three times in the past to replied that were not mine.
So I can confirm that this happens and there does not have to be any malicious intent behind it, just a simple mix up.
705  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What to do with spam and scam tokens on my wallet? on: September 26, 2023, 09:51:10 PM
You cannot stop someone from sending tokens to you, but you can limit the spread of your address by not posting then on every airdrop you join or in random websites, this does not solve the problem as addresses are public, but it can limit the possibility.
When the address poisoning scam hit the Tron network, I started receiving small amounts of coins from scammers but I never participated in any airdrops or posted my address in public. Scammers are monitoring the blockchain. If they notice significant activity on some addresses, they will attempt their scams to trick those users.
This was why I pointed out that addresses are public, meaning you can still be a victim if you never post your address on a public platform. Heck, your public key is publicly available after you make an outbound transaction and an address can be picked up if you search for it's details onna block explorer.

However to some extent, not putting your address out there on every unverified platform will help reduce the possibility.
706  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why do members switch campaigns always? on: September 26, 2023, 09:46:18 PM
In conclusion, even as it's no crime moving from one campaign to another it is irresponsible, immature and fickle for an individual to be doing so within a shortest frame of just a week in a campaign.
I have been on one campaign for several years now and I've enjoyed every bit of time spent with the green flag. I have only been tempted to apply for other campaigns a couple of times, mostly to chipmixer when they were still around on the forum.

It has been a combination of the posting requirements, the manner of management and freedom to post around as well as feedbacks being taken from campaign participants that has kept me there (along with not being accepted by CM), but I can totally understand why a user will move on very quickly from one campaign if they get accepted for a slot in another one.

Some managers pick higher ranks for lower pay roll, a concept which I do not fancy as it limits the slots available for users of that rank. If a user in a lower pay slot gets an opportunity to switch campaigns and get accepted for their rank, then they should go ahead with it, the manager will understand or should.

As long as a user is performing their tasks adequately, they should be able to switch campaigns till the get comfortable in one.
707  Other / Meta / Re: is Politics and Society board turning into a lowkey Off-topic board? on: September 26, 2023, 09:27:57 PM
Greetings, everyone. I am now the new moderator of Politics & Society. What I have to say about it.
Long overdue to have a moderator for the politics & Society board and a good chouse of a moderator for that board.

I hope we get actual moderation on that board and not just for a little while and then it gets run over by spam.
708  Other / Meta / Re: Would it be possible if there was some kind of like button? on: September 26, 2023, 05:39:58 AM
If someone doesn't reply to a duscussion that requires one from them after reading it, they will likely not use a face, or karma or like button to indicate that they've read it. You should not expect that finality in discussions from other members as it wasn't factored in to the initial forum design.
The default notifications system is non existent with majority of members not checking their email to know who quoted them, for this reason we have telegram created by community members to help with the flow of communication.

Your suggestion is not a bad one at all and will help a little in offering closure to those who participated in discussions, but as with many suggestions here, will likely not get implemented. I'm not even sure if it's possible of SMF.
709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where do the swapped tokens/coins go? on: September 25, 2023, 09:04:16 PM
When you swap BNB to usdt, you add BNB to the liquidity of BNB/USDT. Then you remove usdt to your wallet. So, this will reduce the value of BNB a bit cos the Liquidity pool must be balanced.
The value of a cryptocurrency will not drop because there was a swap or trade involving it. Coin trackers take aggregate from different exchanges and reach an average price, so after each trade there might be an increase or decrease in the value or no change at all.

Also note that not everyone withdraws to their personal wallet after swapping a coin so there's not always an addition to liquidity.
710  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What to do with spam and scam tokens on my wallet? on: September 25, 2023, 08:57:35 PM
How can I get rid of them? How can I stop such "left" tokens from being sent to me? What do you do with such tokens? I tried to see these tokens through PancakeSwap and Trust Wallet, but they are not displayed there.
• You can only get rid of a token by sending them out which you do but wat to do. The best option is to ignore them and if you use a wallet that supports locking of inputs, use it,

• You cannot stop someone from sending tokens to you, but you can limit the spread of your address by not posting then on every airdrop you join or in random websites, this does not solve the problem as addresses are public, but it can limit the possibility.

• You don't do anything with them,

• Whatever you do, do not send them to your exchange account or to any other wallets you own.
711  Economy / Speculation / Re: Potential events that can initiate next bitcoin rally on: September 25, 2023, 07:02:42 PM
Quote
Reduced scams and fraudulent activity
Regulation does not reduce scams or fraudulent activities. There are tons of regulated industries that have been involved in high profile scams, some of these include those which are most trusted by societies like banks, even the regulatory bodies havebee involved in fraudulent activities, and for this reason Bitcoin was created to give its holders freedom from centralization and regulation.
712  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin halving and inflation on: September 25, 2023, 06:38:32 PM
because there will always be a new all time high following the event of halving experience.
"Past performance does not always indicative of future results"

While it is highly probable that we will hit an all time high, there is no guarantee that we actually would and with more halvings the probability keeps dropping.

Thirty or fourth years from now when the mining reward is already much less than 1BTC, the impact of halving on the price will be much less than it is today.
713  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Has Changed My Life 👨‍💻 on: September 25, 2023, 06:29:46 PM
Bitcoin hasn't quite changed your life yet, you just discovered trading and how it works. Trading is not a steady source of income, even the best of traders have good and bad days in which they make profits or incur losses.
Keep learning and never risk more than you can afford to lose.

I realize I should have put it here with a picture but I'm a new account owner and putting my picture here won't support it
You do not have to. Pictures can be easily edited and does not prove anything.
If you do have a real reason to post a picture and cannot wait to earn a few more activities, you can purchase a copper membership.

715  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Education for Beginners: The Sovereign University on: September 24, 2023, 07:26:22 AM
It's much easier to explain to someone who has never bought or sold bitcoin how to purchase it on a centralized exchange than on Bisq.
It's also much easier to explain how to create an account on an exchange over how to create a non custodian wallet and safely back it up. This does not mean newbies should be encouraged to go with centralized exchanges for storage. Ease is not always the best option, cause newbies are more prone to use centralized the exchanges for storage by leaving their coins there and if they start off using them, it will become much more difficult to chabge later.

No matter what anyone says, I don't think it's suitable for a beginner. It offers greater privacy and no custody, but those are different topics. Bisq and Foundation Passport sections exist as tutorials.
So no KYC exchanges are probably the best options for beginners.
716  Other / Meta / Re: Request for sent merit edit button on: September 24, 2023, 07:19:49 AM
shouldn’t we have something like a second warning when the confirm button is clicked, like ’are you sure you want to send this amount to so so’
This will just bother the majority of people if they needed to confirm the merits they are sending before sending it everytime. If it is even considered it should be an option that can be toggled off and on depending on the user's preference.

Secondly shouldn’t we have a patch on editing merit sent even if it is for a specified time like how the edit button doesn’t reflect edited when it is done immediately the post is made.
This will have far reaching implications and should not be considered by the admins. Merits by design should not be reversible.
717  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC Pool Stats on: September 24, 2023, 07:09:40 AM
Isn't it bad for ecosystem? Why do miners stay in 2 big pools and give them more than %50 power? Even if they don't use it for evil.
It theoretically poses some risk, but practically it does not. These pools are profit oriented and with their individual hashrates they have a guaranteed chance of getting one of four blocks confirmed, that's a chance to hit a reward every ~40 minutes.
Even if hypothetically both miners could merge to attack the network, there is no guarantee that they will be successful, their chain will likely be abandoned by all nodes and they will have miners pull out en masse from their pool into other ones.

It seems safer to take a guaranteed profit every 40 than gamble with no long term possibility.

Wouldn't it be better if total of the biggest pools are less than %50? Would you prefer 4 pools for %50 rather than 2 pools for %50?
Miners are profit oriented too. They stand a higher chance of making a profit if they associate with the top pools as long as they meet the specification to join.
I will rather 4 or 8 pools for 50%, but it's not a real bother.
718  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If you could..... What will it be? on: September 24, 2023, 07:01:26 AM
There are so many events that have directly affected Bitcoin and bitcoin holders alike. Almost all of them are as a result of faikue of a third party which was granted full custody to keep those funds accessible to their customers. I can't pick one incident to undo; MtGox, FTX... Such events are bound to happen again and serve as a marker to avoid centralized exchanges and opt for the alternative.

There is also the rise of side projects like ICOs, DeFi etcetera. While they made a few rich, they wrecked a lot more people and served to benefit the founders and developers, but it's a personal decision to put money in such gambles and more of such will always spring up.

I will probably undo government involvements in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency of which the users do not have control over. It remains completely untaxed and free of government regulations.
719  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Education for Beginners: The Sovereign University on: September 24, 2023, 06:45:34 AM
Looks alright on first glance. What caught my eye first was the recommended softwares and hardware's which they included in the courses section. Many tutorials and courses will highlight only the most popular platforms which many of the times are centralized exchanges, they will also not be on the lookout for open source alternatives like bisq or passport which offers actual self custody.

This will be useful to beginners and not so beginners as well.

I must be honest and say that I haven't checked the quality and how detailed the provided information is. But the more eyes we have on it, the better we can determine if it's something worth recommending as a learning source or not.
They should have an option where users can recommend an update on the information available. So even if it's not the best now through community involvement it will become better.
720  Other / Meta / Re: account banned! [Appeal] on: September 22, 2023, 07:50:52 AM
You never can tell how it was  on the older days. I understand that your account was registered in 2017 which is old enough but I have this feeling that things were strick then. You might get yourself banned for talking good about altcoins and talking bad about bitcoin.
There was no time in the forum when someone will have gotten banned for talking bad about Bitcoin and hyping up altcoins as long as you kept the conversation constructive. There is a whole section for altcoins with different boards where one can discuss freely about them.

Op, your account is a donator account. The admin will be very happy to make you recover this account only if you can prove that you own the account.
An account will not be unbanned caused it's a donator account without any reason to overturn the ban.
