741  Other / Meta / Re: What's a trust list? on: September 17, 2023, 07:34:30 PM
So I can add you in my trust list, right? Clearly you are a trust worthy person, someone who have a clear reputation in this community.
You can add anyone you want to your trust list without needing to get permission from them. I have not traded with LoyceV but with their interaction here and little we have had in pm, I can assume the user to be trustworthy, but that's not what you factor in when adding someone to your list.

• Trustworthy; means someone you can bank on and comfortably enter a trade with with some assurance that they will see it to the end.

• Trus list user; someone who hasgood judgement and knows how to judge in cases of dispute, extra points if they are very interested in the trust system and gives feedbacks often.

A user can be trustworthy without having good judgement.
742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are reasonable fees when buying small sums of bitcoin in the UK? on: September 16, 2023, 04:35:45 PM
My question is: what are reasonable transaction fees that I could expect a crypto exchange to charge me for bitcoin transactions?
2% is a reasonable fee to be paid for most exchanges in the U.K and around the world. Remember that this is the fee paid on conversion from £ to Bitcoin. You will pay transaction fees to transfer the Bitcoin out of the exchange and into your wallet which you have custody of.
And for the amount you are buying you need to use a non custodian wallet.

I would also be interested to know if some platforms/exchanges would adjust their transaction fee as a percentage depending on the size of the position that is being taken. For example, if someone were to buy $100 of BTC, should they expect to pay higher transaction fees as a percentage when compared to someone who purchases say $100,000 ?
Yes. Percentage means the fees paid can be higher or lower depending on the total amount being bought or sold.
743  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Do we get the completed posts payment. on: September 16, 2023, 07:03:36 AM
I read the rules carefully and didn't found the rules about what if i lived campaign in the middle of the week.
There is already a contractual agreement to wear the signature and avatar for the duration of a week inorder to get the payment, so leaving in the middle of the week already breaks that agreement and means you will likely not be getting any payment for that campaign.

If you do stay till the end of the week and have already gotten another campaign which you need to wear their signature, you should notify the manageryo know if he can check your post history first and clear you for the week's payment so you can change your signature, this should not be an issue for most managers.

In the end it's all about communication between all parties to ensure everyone is on the same page
744  Economy / Economics / Re: 1.34 trillion asset manager Deutsche Bank to offer Bitcoin service on: September 15, 2023, 05:33:53 PM
Some people think that it is not secure to store their bitcoins by themselves, like some people think they cannot protect their gold, so they keep it in their bank lockers or with some custodians. They fear that they will lose their private key or hardware wallet, or they will die and their family won't get their bitcoin.
They will more easily lose their Bitcoin from keeping it on a third party custody service than from storing it themselves. The billions of dollars that has been lost to hacks or closures from custody service is very large compared to those who have lost their private keys or hardware wallets
When you consider that major hacks gets cover stories but users who are locked out of their wallets by the custody service are isolated cases and goes unreported the amount of lost or stolen bitcoins gets longer.

I understand your concern about the potential risk associated with banks, but this can make some people's bitcoin lives easier. At least, this is what they think.
They are thinking very wrong.
745  Other / Meta / Re: Why Bitcointalk do not have alternative front-ends? on: September 15, 2023, 02:11:09 PM

what I mean by alternative front-end is completely different unrecognizable bitcointalk with possibly the features that are missing from what we use right now, not just changing theme.
So the New Forum Software then?
This has been in development for several years and is well past the expected deadline for it to be fully functional.

It should definitely be recognizable so we don't lose the feel of how the forum is now but get some of the features that is most requested by the users, like a mobile friendly version and some additional inputs.

There is very little talk about the new forum software now that I'm not expecting anything to come up soon.
746  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Interview questions on Bitcoin for newbies. on: September 15, 2023, 11:54:40 AM
This is not true. After signing the transaction, it is broadcast to mempool of the contract. This mempool is the place from which the miner takes the transactions to include them in the block after mining the block. As long as you continue broadcasting the transaction, it will be confirmed, but it will not return to your wallet after an hour.
The miner includes the transaction in his candidate block and this is done by all miners competing for the next block. Adding of a transaction to a block is not done after mining but before.

There is also no guarantee that a transaction will be confirmed even if you keep broadcasting it, but you're right that it will take far longer than an hour for it to be dropped from majority mempools, the most universal time is 2 weeks. The Bitcoin does not have to be returned to the wallet cause the transaction was unconfirmed and they never left.
747  Other / Meta / Re: Why Bitcointalk do not have alternative front-ends? on: September 15, 2023, 05:45:18 AM
There is an option to change the current theme on your profile, but the feature along with a few others is disabled now. It either was a security concerns or theymos could not manage to keep it updated.

There are several extensions and user scripts that can help to adjust the theme but no onsite option.
748  Other / Meta / Re: Is there any code or extension where I can hide the avatar on the top left page? on: September 14, 2023, 03:36:26 AM
There is another method other than the one mentioned by the members above that I sometimes use to hide or show avatars and signatures, but its problem is that it hides all the avatars on the page, not just the avatar on the top left page. This tool can be obtained through this topic:
The extension has some other cool features, but if you're only interested in hiring avatars and signatures then there is a forum feature you can use to do that in Look and Layout Preferences section of your profile..
The downside there is turning on avatars turns of that of others and not the one at the top left corner, also turning off signatures does not include forum ads and factoids.

But it still serves pretty well without the need to use extensions or external scripts.
749  Other / Meta / Re: The comment layout is awful here on: September 14, 2023, 03:30:22 AM
This will be hectic to implement here on bitcointalk. In discussions there are always multiple side conversations where one user can quote 2 or more users at a particular time, and a collapsible dropdown button will fail to capture the entire thread of discussion.

The current layout is also not terrible, it's just a matter ofbwhat you frequent. I am mostly on the forum, so when I visit Reddit which is sparingly I struggle to go with the flow of discussions there and end up not going further than the first lump of replies, same happens on Twitter to (except it's a really interesting conversation).

I feel like this system is due for an upgrade and could use some more social media like elements. ...
We definitely don't need more social media like elements.
750  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Search For Investors on: September 13, 2023, 06:29:36 PM
Market your project to them.

Crypto investors are on different social platforms, you have to bring your project to them and show them why it is worth investing in your ultra innovative project.

Nite that you are competing against thousands of shitcoins and projects.
751  Economy / Reputation / Re: Alts of scammer "buyingtechnow" on: September 12, 2023, 08:56:25 PM
If the Forum doesn't ban scammers and ponzi promoters, is it that the Forum is promoting the ponzi promoters and scammers?
No, it means that the forum cannot effectively protect you from scams so you should learn to protect yourself proactively and not believe that there is a security cover which protects you from scammers, just like with Bitcoin.

I don't agree entirely with the idea and feel that a little more strictness on proven scammers and scam posts will help, but it's my personal opinion.
752  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If they have the ability why would they sell? on: September 11, 2023, 07:44:40 PM
Are crypto signal groups for real?
They are real but the service they offer is mistimed fake and for the most part traders should avoid their service.

1. There is no proof of certificate that shows that the group owners are professional traders.

2. They might have other motives for creating such groups too.
• Do not give the scammers ideas. Even if there was some fictitious proof of certificate that does nothing to prove that the signals you are getting are worth anything.

• They do. Many of them are pump and dumo groups, they get a cheap position in an asset and the drop a signal prompting their subscribers to go and buy in and drive the price up after which they well and leave you holding your bags.
753  Economy / Economics / Re: Economics 101. Stagflation. on: September 11, 2023, 04:36:43 PM
In reality about half of the countries in the world are experiencing some form of stagflation already and have been for several years now. This was only worsened by the recent economic events like the lockdown caused by covid-19 and crisis in different countries in the world but the issue has always existed for different countries and some of this countries supply wealth to their neocolonialists boosting their economy.

The next decades will be full of uncertainties but there will be good economies borne out of it while some others will slip further into inflation.
754  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin mining is winning on: September 11, 2023, 08:18:50 AM
I will start to worry if the government and media houses stop fighting bitcoin with their constant propaganda.

They are aware of the real environmental hazards but they still try to use dubious means to rope in Bitcoin mining to something as controversial as environmental pollution to decrease public interest in it. This is because they cannot control or regulate it, so they find other ways to fight it.
755  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Importance of inviting Newbies to Bitcointalk on: September 11, 2023, 08:12:05 AM
Sure. But a huge majority of these people would heavily favor modern social media platforms rather than a retro-style forum.
That's definitely correct. Many will favour more comfort tailored social medias to The forum which seems to not be interested in your registration or your attention; it's either you want to be here or you don't.

This will not attract the majority, but in my experience anyone who I invite to the forum usually takes to it like duck to water without any interest in the financial gains that are available here.

And we all know how painfully bad Bitcointalk can be when used on a mobile phone.
It's honestly not that bad, just needs some getting used to.
756  Other / Meta / Re: Trust Feature idea: give DT1 the ability to remove specific feedbacks from DT on: September 11, 2023, 03:22:31 AM
Why rely on votes from DT1 members only when there is a concern that all of them will not vote and many of them don't care? Can't we do a weight-based voting system? DT1 members will have 3 voting power and DT2 members will have 1. To pass a decision at least 50% of DT1 member's vote should be mandatory. This can reduce potential bias as well.
That is pretty much still relying on votes from DT1 members and if you are positive to get 50% of them to chime into different discussions, how do you say that they do not care?

Your idea is one that can work and also help to reduce bias even though many believe that the default trust is already a broken system and encourages backscratching.
757  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ouch, today someone made a transaction with over $500k fee. on: September 11, 2023, 03:15:28 AM
I think it was not a human mistake if it was mined from F2pool maybe the transaction was made by someone who mines in F2pool and withdraws his mined BTC.
But in this case the transaction was broadcasted publicly and any miner would have been able to claim the block rewad. If anyone was looking to send money this way they will have only limited the transaction to their miner or directly minednit themselves but this was open for everyone.

Because people nowadays are smart it's impossible that he didn't double-check the transaction fee before the transaction was broadcasted.
People nowadays are far from smart and it is improbable (considering the amount) but not impossible that they didn't double check before sending.
One theory on Twitter, sorry X, is that the user mixed up the amount to send and transaction fees.
758  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Importance of inviting Newbies to Bitcointalk on: September 11, 2023, 03:00:37 AM
The people you can attract to Bitcointalk today are mostly the:

- people that are actually interested in Bitcoin, hardcore-mode
They do not really have to be hardcore members, even those who have a very basic interest in Bitcoin can pick an interest in the forum and build that interest from there.

The retro style can also serve as an appeal to those who are looking for something unique to be a part of.
759  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Importance of inviting Newbies to Bitcointalk on: September 11, 2023, 02:56:17 AM
But let's all be realistic. The signature campaigns and contests keeps the forum active daily giving every members a way to share their knowledge and driving them into having a reason to continually use Bitcointalk.
Financial motivation is a very big reason why a lot of members use bitcointalk and that in itself is not a problem at all. We all have bills and real life expenses to pay, getting some income while doing something you love doing and have an interest in is something that comes very easy for everyone.

That being said this does not mean that we solely invite someone with the promise that the forum will give them an extra source of income if they do certain things right. We should only invite people who have an interest in Bitcoin or use this forum as a means to spark an interest for someone we want to get to know about Bitcoin.
This will reduce the rate of spam from members who are here just to join bounties and get rich quicky or at least make some dollars quick.

If signatures ever stopped more than two-thirds of the members here will be totally inactive and those who do remain here will either do it sparingly out of love for Bitcoin or in the hopes that signatures will someday return and they will have grown their accounts in preparation for that.
760  Economy / Economics / Re: On Apple's $200 billion dump and US shooting itself in the foot on: September 10, 2023, 08:29:23 PM
No world order lasts forever, not the Roman empire, not the British empire and not the U.S. All empires eventually get replaced with something fresh and different, although in reality they are all the same and they all seek the same things; power and control.

The U.S and the dollar has taken huge hits over the past few years but they are still a long way from being overthrown with BRICS posing s bigger threat than it did before. These other economies are not immune to hurdles too and will also take hits in the quest to changed the world order.
