Without underestimating Miocic, but I think a fight between Jon Jones and Miocic will be unbalanced. Even though Jones is the GOAT in LHW and Miocic is the GOAT in HW, for me this is no longer a GOAT vs GOAT fight. Jones may still be in his prime, but the fact we should know is that Miocic is almost 42 years old and that is a very old age for a fighter at the highest level in MMA. His speed and reactions were no longer the same as before. Especially with the brutal knockout when fighting with Ngannou. So if the fight does happen I think it will only add to Jones' good record in the UFC before finally deciding to retire.

We all know that. I like Stipe, but he's effectively retired and just coming back for his goodbye big-money fight. Jones wants to fight him also for the money and to seal his legacy as the best pound-for-pound fighter, but speaking about sport challenge - Aspinall is much more dangerous.
It would be a shame if Jones Vs Aspinall never happens, there aren't many heavyweights that would be good match for Tom, maybe Almeida could cause him some trouble with his jiu-jitsu but other than that, there's nobody on a similar level.

But Alex was in a perfect position to land even more punches. Before falling to ground, Jiri already ate bunch of elbows and hammer fists. Ref did his job perfectly imho. I dont think that Jiri would do much on the ground; besides Pereira was in full mount.

Yeah, but those kind of elbows/hammers are not usually very powerful and have no KO power. Jiri did fall on his back but was not out and had his hands up, all he needed to do is to hug Alex or grab his head to buy himself enough time to recover. But if Prochazka himself agrees with the decision, then I'm happy to accept it.
782  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 12, 2023, 11:37:37 PM
Tom Aspinall was the surprise as i heard he was not training for this fight because of an injury and placed the bet on Sergei Pavlovich but fast hands always wins in the Heavyweight division.

Alex Pereira is a beast, striking legend and if you think that you can defeat him with striking he will showcase how elite performs. Two division champion in a single calendar year which is crazy and his post fight speech about Adesanya inspiring him to sign with the UFC when he was working in a bar in Brazil after his Kickboxing career is a stuff of legend .

Huge win for Aspinall, he proved beyond any doubt that he deserves that belt. He might be here for a long reign. I just hope that Jon Jones will not retire after fighting Stipe and will face Tom eventually.
To be fair, I expected Aspinall to try to take it to the ground, but instead, he did to Pavlo what Pavlo had done to everyone else, which is even better. It's not a coincidence that Tom holds the shortest average fight-time in UFC history.

As for Alex, I think that stoppage was a bit premature, the ref could give it an extra second or 2. But he did very well with those leg kicks and of course with that right-left counter. Prochazka did manage to catch him a few times and he was the more aggressive one though. I hope Jiri will bounce back.
783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Would you Like Your Pension Paid in Bitcoin? on: November 11, 2023, 11:12:08 PM
I don't think the company will want to follow what you want to happen either. Then I have not seen any company in this era, even before no one has done such a thing that a company paid their employees via Bitcoin.

In the past, we've seen some companies paying their employees (part of) their salaries in bitcoins (I think BitPay was one of them). But for the purpose of pension schemes, all you really need is a pension fund that lets you choose instruments you want to invest in and a reliable BTC spot ETF.

So, if you receive your pension, you should exchange it for bitcoin if you also want to hold it long-term, and this is the best way to at least somehow get a profit from bitcoin.

In most countries, you won't be able to freely access your pension fund money and withdraw it to invest in something else (they would be pointless if you could). Those would usually be restricted e.g. until you reach a certain age.
784  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 11, 2023, 10:56:11 PM
Maybe I saw different interview, but in mine Fury told that due to there were no videos of Ngannou real boxing fights, they did not know what to expect. All the knew Ngannou has speed and power. Not much to build tactics on. Well, if on October 28 we saw prepared Fury, who fully understood what to expect from Ngannou, then no doubt he would have huge troubles against Usyk. My offer if Fury should have a rematch was more addressed to those who say that Ngannou won Cheesy But in general I would love to see fight against Usyk, then against Ngannou.

I was referring to this interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTOFDVNzMM0 in which he said both, that he came prepared and didn't underestimate Francis, and also said what you've mentioned, that they had no clue how good or bad Francis was in boxing.
Nevertheless, if a man who had no previous boxing fight just casually knocks down the lineal champion and was close to winning the fight - this puts a dent in boxing as a sport and Fury definitely has something to prove here. It's in everyone's interest to see Fury getting the job done right.

Obviously, if I had to choose between Fury Vs Usyk and Fury Vs Ngannou 2, I'd choose Usyk, but there's no reason we can't have both of those fights (Usyk first, Ngannou later).
785  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 11, 2023, 10:40:04 PM
I really doubt that they will neglect the Striking over wrestling because Alex Pereira has an advantage on the stand-up and his knockout power is surreal for me they will not neglect the striking or stand-up but they will surely focus on Pereira's takedown defense but I doubt Pereira will be focusing on learning the wrestling,

That's the point. They both have limited time to prepare. If Pereira's team expects Prochazka to try to take the fight to the ground and they spend say 50% time on striking and 50% on the ground game and takedown defense then, if Prochazka actually focuses almost entirely on striking - we might see Pereira getting outstriked by Jiri. At this level, differences in striking skills are not that big, and it's easier for Jiri to analyse Pereira than vice versa.

My picks for main events: Prochazka and Aspinall to win their fights.

Only a few hours away...
786  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 09, 2023, 06:35:16 PM
What a hot discussion here Grin Do you think we need a rematch? Why not make another poll? Even though Fury won in a split decision, I dont think there should be a rematch. The problem was not because Ngannou is so good and can fight with champions on equal level, but simply because Fury underestimated him. If they would have a rematch I dont think that Fury is going to be so passive and slow. Because in that fight he did not show any footwork and tactics. He was rather straightforward. There were no tricks from him. He was only better at talking before the fight.

I agree that we could use a new poll, but I disagree that there shouldn't be a rematch. So the only argument is that we can assume that Fury underestimated Francis and he would surely destroy him in a rematch? By that logic, why do we have any fights at all, why not just make assumptions on who would defeat who  Grin
Fury himself admitted that he came properly prepared and did not underestimate Ngannou's skills, so there's no reason not to believe him.
He will fight with Usyk anyway, so there's no need he can't fight Francis again after that. I think the exceptionally good performance of Francis put a dent in entire boxing as a sport, so it's in everyone's interest to have Fury proving to the world that he can do better than the first time around.
787  Economy / Economics / Re: AI will put an end to work, says Elon Musk on: November 09, 2023, 06:12:59 PM
It is true as Elon musk has said it artificial intelligence will put an end to work but not in the entirety of it. AI will not take over the jobs of astronauts working at space x neither will AI take over the jobs of the engineers whose work is to ensure that the machines are functioning at its optimal to assemble battery parts at Tesla. I also will not take over the jobs of people working at X, the social media company. What a I will do instead is that we would see better results output we would see efficiency we will see organizations meeting their key performance indicators as a result of these super human computers without have been utilised in their places of work.

Can you actually produce any logical argument on why all the jobs you mentioned can't be automated? What is it that humans can do that is impossible to be made by AI/robots?
So far this thread is full of wishful thinking and empty phrases with no real substance.
788  Economy / Economics / Re: AI will put an end to work, says Elon Musk on: November 09, 2023, 04:32:06 PM
I agree, people are over-exaggerating the power of AI when its power depends entirely on us humans. If we don't provide it with data, it will just be a pile of useless scrap metal, so there will be no way AI or robots can replace humans in all fields or even control the human world.

AI is created to help and bring convenience to humans, it is not created to replace or destroy humanity, so we should stop making exaggerated assumptions about AI.

If people directly involved in developing AI tell you it's a potential huge threat, than maybe you should take it seriously.
What makes an AI an AI is the ability to learn and expand on it's own, and it could do it exponentially. AI is not just a database that filters out results according to a prompt. And no, it's not always created with the best intentions in mind, it could very well also be used to gain geopolitical advantage of one country over others.
From materialistic point of view, there's nothing special about humans. We are just a biological robots that could be replaced by something better, more efficient and designed for a special purpose.

"What makes this year's boom so remarkable is that it is not being driven by retail investors. "

Hopefully the smart retail investors are already well positioned for this.  Who knows though.  Plenty of peoplehad the knowledge and opportunity to get involved in bitcoin but few actually did anything and then end up regretting it.

That's because the "average joes" are not investors. Everyone who has been into Bitcoin for a while knows about market cycles and that we are ripe for the start of another bull-run soon. But an average person wouldn't even be thinking about crypto at all, until media start reporting on huge price movement, at that point they'd slowly start considering getting into it, just to finally buy when the market gets overheated.
People shouldn't really be putting any money into things they don't understand.
Lets see how how the market takeover by the institutional investors will pan out.
790  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 09, 2023, 04:10:42 PM
but because Alex Pereira was training with Glover Texeira so for sure his takedown defense could get him far and beyond

That might be a bit of a trap for Pereira. Everyone assumes he's superior to Jiri in a stand up, but if most of his training camp is focused on takedown defence and improving his ground game, he might neglect the striking part and could get out-striked by Jiri. And it's not like Prochazka is lacking in the striking department, if Pereira in the top form is better than him, it's only by a small margin.
But yeah, anything is possible in this fight. Who knows, maybe Alex will be the one looking for a takedown, as he did in the first fight against Adesanya.
791  Bitcoin / Press / [2023-11-08] Motley Fool - This 1 Catalyst Could Send Bitcoin Soaring Back to... on: November 08, 2023, 11:21:44 PM
Not really a mainstream press, but quite an interesting read from a few days ago.
If I'm not mistaken, The Motley Fool were strongly anti-Bitcoin in its earlier days (unless I'm confusing them with some other news portal), so it's good to see the shift in sentiment.

This 1 Catalyst Could Send Bitcoin Soaring Back to Its All-Time High of $69,000

https://www.fool.com/investing/2023/11/08/this-1-catalyst-could-send-bitcoin-soaring/

Quote

Institutional investors are suddenly very bullish on Bitcoin, and this change in sentiment could send Bitcoin soaring even higher into 2024.
There's a good reason why Bitcoin (BTC 1.00%) has earned a reputation as a tremendously volatile asset. It typically moves in dramatic boom-and-bust cycles, sometimes without any apparent rhyme or reason. After a huge "bust" year in 2022, when it lost 65% of its value, Bitcoin has entered a new "boom" phase and is up more than 110% for the year.

What makes this year's boom so remarkable is that it is not being driven by retail investors. Instead, the driving catalyst for this year's rally appears to be large institutional investors, many of whom are embracing Bitcoin for the first time. And that is leading to some tremendously bullish predictions about where Bitcoin could be headed next, including a potential rally back to its all-time high of $69,000.
792  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 08, 2023, 11:12:24 PM
Yep, i got the point. In general, I initially understood this, but this does not mean that I agree with it so wanted to discuss it. For me this is illogical and opens up scope for manipulation. It would be strange if in football the score in the first half was 3-0 and the score in the second half was 0-1 and the final score was the same, but in boxing this is possible. And I also know that all judges interpret body blows differently, not all consider them to be “real” blows.

Yes, there's a lot of room for manipulation and we've seen some outrageous decisions in the past, but this system is still best than any other.
As for boxing and football, they are hardly comparable, as I mentioned before, landing a punch just for the sake of it should not be the goal. Punches must be effective and cause damage.

Recent news about Ngannou, apparently he rejected an offer to fight Anthony Joshua in December and would rather sit out and wait for a rematch with Fury. I was surprised at first but I kind of understand that. Fury is very likely to accept the rematch after fighting Usyk, and it's guaranteed to be a big money fight (especially if Fury manages to win with Usyk and unify the belts). But if Ngannou was to accept Joshua fight (likely for much less money) and if he was dominated or KOed, the chances of rematch with Fury would get much slimmer.

793  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Chat GTP destroy poker on-line gambling??? on: November 07, 2023, 06:38:15 PM
I'm late to respond this but even tho AI is good when play a certain game but they didn't know card from the dealer card right?

Is stil 50.50 or I am Missing something here?

Poker is a game of skill and is not based on pure lack. It's not like you go all-in before the hands are dealt, if you have a weak hand, you can just fold and wait for the next one. If it was a 50/50 game, we wouldn't need cards at all, they could be replaced by a coin.
So when AI (or a human player) is "good" in Poker, it means it makes more money than it loses. So not only would the AI be able to chose a proper strategy, i.e. knowing when to call/fold/or raise, but it could be much better at analysing human players' style (especially when historical games' data is available) then people.
794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Would you Like Your Pension Paid in Bitcoin? on: November 07, 2023, 06:27:11 PM
That's a pretty poor return, it yielded you something between 2.5%-3% a year on average, most likely way below the inflation rate.
But it's not like you had a fortune there anyway. You might want to look around and see if you have any option to choose how your pension funds are invested. If not, you could just transfer your money to a different pension. Who knows, maybe when Bitcoin spot ETFs are approved, it will be possible to invest your retirement funds in them.

Paying your contributions directly to your wallet, whether bitcoins or fiat, would be defying the purpose of employee pension schemes. It would be just an equivalent of you getting a small rise and being responsible for your own retirement.
795  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: November 07, 2023, 06:14:43 PM
Never seen someone got 7 points for a round. It must be completely punching bag or a guy whos corner is about to throw a towel. Btw, if you remember Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder first fight, Tyson was knocked down in last round also, and judges also scored that as 8-10. So 8-10 is a correct judgement for this fight. But dont try to find much login in boxing scoring, as this is one of most corrupted sports Cheesy

A round would be scored 10-8 if there is one knock-down and 10-7 if there are 2 knockdowns, so it's not that uncommon. I'm not sure if it can be scored lower than 7. Usually the fight would be ended after a 3rd knockdown in the same round, but maybe if there's a foul, for which the point is deducted. I've no idea what's the lowest it could go.

Boxing scoring rules are fairly logical but whether referees are using them as they should, is a completely different story.
796  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 07, 2023, 05:59:53 PM
Imho Pereira just land heavier strikes then Jiri and it will be enough to win. I really doubt Jiri gonna have an advantage on the ground, because that is not just his field. It will be pure kickboxing vs muay thai, where reach and power of Pereira would do all the work. Pereira won Polish power, and he had better wrestling than Jiri. Also Jiri is less powerfull than Blachowicz. Plus Jiri would be cautious because of operatuon he had.

I think that's how it will likely go down. Prochazka will probably try his luck and attempt to out-strike Pereira, if that fails, he'll have no choice but to attempt to take it to the ground. It won't be easy though. Pereira's base sport might be kickboxing, but he spent last few years on mastering takedown defence, so won't be as vulnerable as many may think.
I'm not sure if Pereira's fight against Blachowicz is good indication of anything. I have a lot of sympathy to Jan (he's my compatriot) but he's way past his prime. He's cardio is lacking and it affects his entre game. Prochazka is in his prime years and still has that drive and right mentality, whereas Pereira' main goal is likely to earn as much as possible before retiring in 2-3 years.
It's going to be an interesting one for sure.

Dana should have just stripped Jones of his belt and let the two fight for it to make this event bigger.

They are fighting for the interim belt though.
797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fund for Bitcoin promotion on: November 07, 2023, 05:44:54 PM
In a sense, this forum actually fits your criteria, the forum's got donators that help keep the lights on for the forum and many other things although this forum isn't technically an advertisement group, it stands as a pillar for the bitcoin movement especially since this was founded by Satoshi the bitcoin creator himself.

Nah, the purpose of this forum is not to promote Bitcoin to "the masses" but to provide a space where Bitcoin-related topics can be discussed freely. So I don't think that's what OP had in mind.
As for the donations, the forum raised quite a lot of them in the early days and have reserves that will last for years. The minimum donations for the "VIP" and "donator" badges have not been updated to reflect the current price and stay at 50btc and 10btc respectively. Obviously nobody will ever pay that much. The forum also suspended advertising (link here), so I think the only current revenue are small donations from the "copper" members.

The government will be forced to take care of us less we die of starvation, and when we die from starvation, no one's going to spend the money that they are trying to make for themselves, meaning these rich people will cease to be rich.

Lol, what? You didn't think that through did you.
Give me money so I can give some of that to you so you can get rich  Grin

On a serious note, why are so many people confident that "the elites" will be taking care of the masses if the masses are not only no longer needed, but pose a threat of rebellion etc.
799  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fund for Bitcoin promotion on: November 06, 2023, 05:51:03 PM
Is there some group which collects funds for Bitcoin promotion? If some group like this can create advertisements for Bitcoin, more people can become aware. Such mediums should be targeted which have reach on audience that is still not familiar with crypto.
We had something like that in the past, it was called the Bitcoin Foundation:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=113400.0
https://www.bitcoinfoundation.org/

I'm actually surprised the website (and the foundation?) is still alive.
I remember there being some controversies around it, including unusually high salary of the foundation's secretary and some other ones.

As much as there was some point of having such organisation at the very begining of Bitcoin, when there was a lot of uncertainty etc, I don't think we need anything of that sort anymore as we already reached mainstream. It would also create a false idea that there is some form of Bitcoin's central entity that could be confusing to people who are new to Bitcoin.

What we would actually need is a bunch of professional lobbyist in the US (we already had those too) to make sure no regulations harmful to crypto are passed.

What can I say it wasn't doing anything to Derrick Lewis at all so I guess the neck of Derrick Lewis was made of Steel or Jailton Almeida is not really that strong and after this fight how do I really wish Derrick Lewis would do anything when he was in the ground but Derrick Lewis was just sleeping in there and for sure was pretty much relaxing for sure Jailton Almeida should learn how to punch while he was riding Derrick Lewis, but he doesn't do a thing,

And yeah the Prelims indeed was the place where Jailton Almeida would surely get, after this fight for sure he is not ready for a Sergei Pavlovich or a Tom Aspinal fight, because he will not win that fight for sure I was really fallen asleep watching this fight,

You have to give Almeida some credit though. He was fighting a dangerous striker with proven KO power, it would be stupid of him to stand up and exchange. He did what he had to do to win the fight and move up in the ranks. He's focus was on winning and not on the entertainment.
Yeah, there's no chance he'll be fighting for the belt in his next fight. He'll most likely have to face someone from the middle of the top 10 first, maybe Blaydes or Volkov, and if he passes the test, he could be fighting for the title then.
