Giving up exposure on BCT is a mistake.
I wouldn't suggest leaving it all together, but to constantly refer users to dashtalk for the most accurate info at this stage of the game [re-branding and all] would not be a bad idea IMHO  I have to say, this is starting to sound like a good idea. Maybe it is time to cut the umbilical chord from Bitcoin. I say this because for the longest time, this thread has become a troll fest. Does anyone who really wants to learn anything about DRK/DASH really come here anymore? In fact, is Bitcointalk even relevant anymore? What do they offer anyone anyway. When my account was stolen, they did absolutely nothing to help. What is this place anyway? It seems somewhere between Purgatory and Hell. Hell, when we're having a good laugh  Purgatory when we have to listen to these trolls drone on and on and on (or see their names roll by on ignore) Well in there is the thing....its no longer fun! |

They are just mild entertainment plus they are good for the price evidently. true, but come on... it would be cheap entertainment to have these loud mouths tools exposed...i love running into peeps that are all big behind their anon handle and you meet them in person....lol! thats what has been the draw back to the internet and being "anon"....your not accountable for your mouth. 100 years ago....on any western town...well you can imagine, not so brave and willing to spew shit. |

Great confirmation today from people getting into the DASH and other crypto... Bitcointalk forums like this carry no weight! That means that we're making noise to each other. I found it funny... Their comments about these forums was that it's obviously being run and frequented by mostly young to middle aged men that are "techno" nerds with adolescent behaviour.
How much weight did or do they attribute to us here and how important to the future of crypto... Their response...less then zero. Ouch!
Main stream adopters will never look on here for advise. They will look at the website, friends and family referrals and main stream media. Sorry guys... The maybe 100k users through these boards will have zero effect.

I never said there weren't any alternative names, just that none of the names garnered any real support. Also you haven't provided a compelling argument as to why "why weeks of uncertainty and community friction is preferable to simply ripping the band aid off and going with dash".
Edit: Also you have not explained why naming is as important as the underlying technology. I'm pretty sure people would use cars even if they were named wheelboxes.
The dash name was voiced by many in the community. Brick and mortar businesses as well as other businesses where looking for a name that was descriptive of what it was(DASH-digital cash) yet neutral. There was a lot community pressure for this for a long time. Many of you here have not been part of the long time discussions, other then Anon who's been here a long time. At the end....lets leave his decision as his own and respectfully move on. |

Hey quick notice! @darkcoinnews rebranding (Not to Dash) I will not be covering news about Darkcoin anymore and have thus changed my @darkcoinnews twitter account name/logo/etc. I'll still be checking in here regularly since I'm hooked anyways but I won't help promote Darkcoin actively anymore.
While I was optimistic at first for a rebranding, the way the situation was handled was absolutely horrible. Dash itself is IMO quite a bad choice for the name and I've been vocal about that but the fact that no alternatives were seriously discussed and that the decision was made permanent within a few days was a dictator move instead of a decentralized currency and it made me rethink the effort I put into promoting.
I definitely could have lived with Dash if we came up with a few great alternatives and then put it to a real vote. Instead it went from rumors, to first announcement, to confirmation within a few days. (Don't come at me with "A decision HAD to be taken" bullshit, there was no hurry and a few more weeks wouldn't have changed anything).
I'm keeping all my Darkcoin and I remain always impressed by the development speed and the resulting tech. I'll definitely give some Twitter shout outs to interesting developments but it won't be my main focus anymore. So this notice is really for those of you who want to unfollow me. Hi Anon. I respect your right to make this decision. I have seen you mining this coin since the beginning... And I'm sure you have bucket load of coins I always envied your hash rates too...when I was just mining with my CPUs. Lol. In the end... Many community members like myself were very vocal in have darkcoin name change. Could it have happened smoother or ummm with less drama, Maybe maybe not. Either way I respect you for your decision. I think we are getting the message out that members need to stop commenting and validating the trolls and fudsters. Use our ignore buttons freely and liberally...and suddenly things start looking calm.
EDIT: It seems to be some kind of coordinated Troll/Fud system going on. At least 1 post troll/Fud per page of this thread. Smells like a paid strategy. Interesting.

WOW!!! Anybody who hasn't yet listened to the LTB episode do it NOW!  Just had a chance to hear it and it is really excellent on all levels. A great interviewer who was knowledgeable and asked questions until he had got a satisfactory explaination, Evan is clear about where we came from and what will happen next in the development cycle -- it really is just very very good. Well worth the 45 minutes. It also made me realize that we are part of something big and that agruing with trolls and the like is very pointless. Maybe we don't realize but i guess we have a lot of people lurking here.
Is important to show our points of view always, even with the dumbest of the trolls.
All alt.crypto are talking about us, and tons of envy floating the air. Noone is trolling LTC, Monero or Masternode threads. We are doing something very well.
I also agree. Our winery is also in the same position, in as we continually to get more and more accolades and great exposure... The more our local competition is starting to sling mud our way behind our backs. It's the human condition...and I'm resigned that it will never change. But that mudslinging has a unexpected result... We keep getting more and more clients that because of the mudslinging... Have come to try our wines. And their word of mouth discrediting the mudslingers is golden marketing. |
