The QString errors have been fixed in the newer wallets. But it shouldnt be impacting your ability to start up the wallet. When bootstrapping, your client is supposed to hang on the splashscreen for quite some time.
K. Compiling again.
Edit: Found one problem. The deamon was running the whole time and preventing the wallet from starting.

Heres the other one:

Code:
EGLFS: Unable to query physical screen size, defaulting to 100 dpi.
EGLFS: To override, set QT_QPA_EGLFS_PHYSICAL_WIDTH and QT_QPA_EGLFS_PHYSICAL_HEIGHT (in millimeters).
EGLFS: Unable to query screen depth, defaulting to 32.
EGLFS: To override, set QT_QPA_EGLFS_DEPTH.
Segmentation fault
where am i supposed to set those parameters?

Can't help yo with that one, but the "can't bind" error ALWAYS means an instance is running. In most versions of linux (don't know RPi, so I could be wrong) you can type "top" in a terminal and it will show you all running instances of everything. If you see hyperstaked when you shouldn't, note down it's PID number, exit top by hitting ctrl-c, and then type kill <PID>

It took me FOREVER to find that simple little trick, so forgive me if you already knew it Tongue

Fast, too Cheesy We're about to start testing. Stay tuned Cheesy

A bit of news. Good, bad, and ugly.

The Good: I am pleased to announce that Noise23, of Truckcoin fame, has agreed to join us and help with our problems. As some of you know I've worked with him before. He's very good people Cheesy

The Bad. The Blockchain is stopped. We aren't sure why, but we have some ideas. Adding to this, our main code developer is dealing with personal issues and can't help much right now. (which is where noise23 comes in, so it's not ALL bad Cheesy ). It seems as if there are nodes that are interfering with the network. We don't know which ones, or why. To the best of our knowledge, this was NOT a deliberate attack from anywhere, just something not right.

The Ugly. We have to do an emergency mandatory upgrade. It will be within the next few days. Exact timing will be announced. What we're doing is releasing a new client that excludes ALL previous clients. You won't be able to connect to the old clients after the update. Other than that, the emergency fix is essentially identical to the current release. We were planning on doing this anyway, but down the line with more improvements. That didn't work. The other ugly. I have no idea how to compile windows wallets. Noise23 is doing that for us, as well as helping to check my minor fixes in the code.

We will keep you informed, and any suggestions are WELCOMED.

Got no replies, so I'm assuming everyone is stuck.

I don't think there are currently any active pools. Mine is down, and will remain so for at least another day. Scorpion took his down when the whole freeze happened (well, ten hours later). So, I have a suggestion for everyone involved for the moment. If it works, it'll be good enough going forward. If it don't, I have a plan B that I'm running by the team already, which is a new version of the client that excludes all older versions from the network. This is relatively easy to do, but it WILL BE a mandatory update if it goes there.

In the meantime, I would like everyone who can do so to go into their gamecredits.conf file and add the line "gen=1" without the quotes, then stop and restart the client (daemon or QT, it will act the same). This will make your wallet mine via the cpu. If this breaks the stalemate on the chain, then we're pretty well good. I'll still put out a version of the wallet that excludes older clients, but it will be a bit into the future rather than an emergency matter. In which case we might be able to add some other interesting things to the next release rather than a rushed fix.

I and the rest of the team would very much appreciate it if y'all can do this, and if you would be so kind as to post here that you have.

Biomech, I dont think solomining will help, because the wallet will not sync. I too am stuck on same block you mentioned. I DO think a rushed/emergency fix is required as the coin is stopped dead. I think your best bet is to get in touch with Noise23 and/or Thundertoe and ask for help. This is a good coin youve got here, please ask for assistance so it can be working again. The longer the coin is stagnant the more it loses interest, this coin was really gaining traction. Please be diligent and dont let it die.

Vegas

I will contact Noise23. I've already made the updated client, and it will be a very hard fork. I'm not the leader of the project, but I am pretty sure we'll all agree that this is the solution. I need someone to compile a windows wallet, and Noise is a good bet. Couple other guys as well. But yes, I think this is the necessary course of action. I will be testing the new client to be sure it excludes all nodes. I may actually be able to mine a block or two before I stop it, but if I do I will delete that chain until we can distribute the client. I have to coordinate with the rest of the team, of course, but I'm thinking that Wednesday will probably be the fork day. We got too much going on to let it drop now.

You guys should update the information on Crypsty.  It says 100 million coins, but it really is unlimited, right?

https://www.cryptsy.com/currencies/view/TEK
I just talked to thundertoe to clarify (and make him aware of this). Yes the information is incorrect. 100 million is the transaction limit, but there is currently nothing in the code that ends POW.

I hope the HK authorities can shut down these scumbags I'm fucking choked about the $5k they stole from me. Black Arrow and HSBC are currently under investigation for wire fraud.

Keep dreaming! As I've said about butterfly labs, BA, KnC etc etc before, reporting crooks to the biggest crooks on the planet isn't going get you anywhere! All these people do/know is that social engineering manipulates 95%+ of people who are to programmed, too brain washed to go and research for themselves and teach themselves, as only YOU can educate YOURSELF!

Fuck you BA!

I think this edit is better. Your original rant simply makes all of us victims with genuine complaints about the underhanded shady business practices of black arrow look mentally retarded Wink

Ha, I agree. I do ramble sometimes :-)

It was a really good rant, though. I think you just picked the wrong subforum. Copy that over to Politics and Society, clean up the spelling and flesh it out a little...

Wow, that was a lot of to-do about nothing... Look at any block explorer and tell me how many "empty" blocks you find. I've never seen one, though I know they can theoretically exist. Just because of this conversation, I think I'll pay more attention to it. but seriously?

It appears that the chain is stuck at block 1096771. We are trying to determine why.

Do any of you know of a pool or solo miner who is currently making progress beyond this point? If so, can you please inform us either here or in PM so we might contact them? We are trying to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. There may be a mandatory wallet update in the immediate future as we determine what went wrong and make a fix.

Thank you!

Our code guys are trying to figure out what went wrong, y'all will know the answer just after I do. Maybe before, since our team is 'round the world and one of them might get there first.

811  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [HYP] HyperStake | High PoS | Secure | MultiSend | liteStake | Adv Coin Control on: May 21, 2015, 03:34:34 AM
So is the 750% per year stake not possible any more?

Still possible and people are still hitting it quite often. Look at the annual stake rate chart to see what people have been staking recently http://www.presstab.pw/phpexplorer/HYP/index.php

How are those stake percentage values calculated?  Are you sure those numbers on the chart are not using the uncapped theoretical reward amount rather than the 1000 reward hard cap that I think almost everyone must be hitting?  I have a hard time believing that any one has small enough blocks (ie <4000) that are not limited by the 1000 cap and are staking in a <20 day time period to make it even a possibility of hitting the ballpark of 750% annual.

From the above post re block size, with blocks of 25K taking ~15days to stake that is giving ~4% reward (1000/25000) with ~24 stake rounds/year (365/15) giving an instantaneous annual rate of 96%.  Actual annual rate would of course be less than that as typical staking block sizes continue to grow leading to a diminishing reward% per round (ie next round 1000/26000 = 3.8% reward).

I have had several smaller blocks stake under the cap of late. They all sat for a long time, though. I'm about to reorganize into much bigger blocks, because I think I'll do better on the compounding side than on the basic return, but Hyp seems to have a 'thing' about smaller blocks staking ahead of big ones. It's not consistent, but it happens more often than I intuitively think it should.

I got to many problems with this coin , and now i see the chain got stuck at block 1096771 , maybe is just my wallet pool stuck i dont know , the block explorer is down , so i will shutdown the stratum on coinminers pool so miners pls withdraw your coins

Block explorer will be back shortly. Not sure why it's down. my pool is messed up, but not the BE. I'm guessing something got reset. Hang on.

EDIT. It's back up. For reasons unknown, the server rebooted. Should be in sync in a few minutes.

Thanks, I was wondering about that Smiley

Did it only synch till May 16?

Looks like it. Trying to figure out what's going on right now. It may just be a stuck cron. Will update everyone as soon as possible.

813  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will this be the end of bitcoin? on: May 19, 2015, 12:49:44 AM

I think his question might be paraphrased: if a not insignificant portion of 'coins' becames impossible to retrieve, would that have any real network effect on the blockchain? I don't think it's a dumb question.
Your paraphrase is taking his question and making it non-trivial and more intelligent.

For his question, bitcoin can be made infinitesimally divisible like spanishsolider said.

For your paraphrase, I would say it depends on how it happens.

If a significant number of coins are suddenly lost, it may cause some consequences. I'm not sure what they will be, but probably not good.

If coins are slowly lost naturally, then bitcoin's value will simply rise naturally. No harm done.

Although there is the problem with us not being able to know exactly how many coins are lost; that makes pricing bitcoin quite difficult.

While we can never know how many are lost, we can still have proper market signals. If people are unwilling to part with those that remain at X value, then bids will go up to Y value. The market will compensate. That part in my opinion is simply self correcting. Whether a large chunk visibly going out of circulation would affect the block chain, that I have no real theory on. I tend to think it would not.
814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will this be the end of bitcoin? on: May 19, 2015, 12:39:33 AM
Hi guys, this is just a thought of mine,
for example, if own lots bitcoins and i died and there is no one that i know who have access to my bitcoin
then all of it will be a lost right?

so my question is what if in the future, it happened to many people? then the number of bitcoins will not circulate properly?

am i right or wrong?

While not beyond the realm of possibility, I would think that most any savvy owner would have the private keys and other means of access stuffed away somewhere for heirs and assigns. I know I would, so the scenario is pretty unlikely.

I think his question might be paraphrased: if a not insignificant portion of 'coins' becames impossible to retrieve, would that have any real network effect on the blockchain? I don't think it's a dumb question.

Good point. I would think no, as by the time that came to pass, the value would be such that fees alone would be sufficient incentive to mine. But I have nothing but opinion to back that up.

not to go pissing in cheerios, but 'most' keyloggers with their salt also monitor clipboards

It's easier to secure. The only foolproof way to keep a computer safe from hacking is to not be connected to any network. That IS doable, but not for staking... but it leads to a thought. you technically could set up everything on an offline computer, including unlock for stake, and then move it to an online computer. Maybe on and SD card or flash drive. I've never tried this. Cold wallets, yes, but not what I just said. So I might be talking out my ass.
818  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [HYP] HyperStake | High PoS | Secure | MultiSend | liteStake | Adv Coin Control on: May 18, 2015, 07:35:18 PM
I would say that's definitely smart to do. My concern is that if you have a trojan on your pc that's capable of stealing your wallet, then that trojan most likely installed a keylogger as well. The attacker would easily have logged your password.

use cut and paste. It's hard to log keys that aren't pressed. You could also use a service like lastpass to generate and store your password. You can also regularly change the encryption.

That bootstrap is a couple weeks out of date, but it should get you rollin'. This isn't a POS coin. I'm a bit surprised to see you hear, but not at all unhappy Cheesy
820  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Merged mining on: May 17, 2015, 06:15:44 PM
Hello boys and girls.

I have a question regarding merged mining. A pretty basic question, I thought, but I can't seem to find any commentary on it. So here goes.

If a coin can be merged mined, is it to one specific "parent" coin, or any coin that uses the same algorithm?

The parent is defined in the code of the AuxPOW coin.   You can read about it here: https://www.coinmanual.com/tag/auxpow/

The cool thing about AuxPOW is that when you have multiple AuxPOW coins with the same parent, you can mine all off those coins at the same time.

Thank you! That's a cool article, and gives me more things to search Cheesy I think it would be fun (I'm not currently even close to good enough to do it) to put that AuxPow definition in a coin for a LOT of parents. Leech off of so many networks that securing the chain is never an issue Cheesy
