901  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kucoin Twitter account hacked, $22k lost on: April 25, 2023, 11:57:18 PM
So practically, Google 2FA is the best? or one can even enable the three types of 2FA if possible, such as SMS, email, and Google 2FA?

Compared to SMS and email, TOTP/auth app is way better however, I suggest Aegis rather than Google Auth. It offers encryption, easier import/export function and less likely to be neglected by devs, see: https://getaegis.app/

Looks like you can enable more than one 2fa but I suggest not connecting any phone number in your account since it could be used to reset your password. It wouldn't be advisable to be careless about our passwords just because we have 2fa. I also suggest using an email provider where you can pair your account with TOTP.
902  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone with UK Tax experience? on: April 25, 2023, 04:20:44 AM
Typically, tax payers use tax softwares to ease the load.

Since we're talking about UK, I recommend checking r/BitcoinUK's tax megathread. You'll find comprehensive guides, list of tax softwares and be able to discuss tax with locals, see: https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinUK/comments/ppf7k1/tax_megathread/

If you find the whole thing too complex and wanna err on the side of caution, you have the option of consulting a tax consultant, see: https://cointracking.info/law/

Side note: no blind trusting and exercise caution!
903  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kucoin Twitter account hacked, $22k lost on: April 25, 2023, 02:44:08 AM
I don't know how their handle was hacked, isn't 2fa is forcedrequired to every verified handle in twitter? How is it possible though to breach 2fa?

Assuming it's not an inside job and the 2fa is not SMS, simplest way would be to launch a phishing attack to one of their twitter handlers. Even the strong password + TOTP combo would be rendered useless once an employee bites.

It's also possible the perps may just be mass sending phishing emails and SMS to leaked phone numbers/email and one of them happened to have access to kucoin's twitter account Cheesy
904  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Help] Newbie here. Is this website safe to use? on: April 24, 2023, 10:54:21 PM
I've heard of this scam scheme before with job offers and selling stuff.

Instead of asking for your bitcoin address, the buyer/employer will redirect you to some no-name exchange which they secretly own and type-in some 'numbers' on your account. In some cases these scammers will not stop with just getting you personal documents, they would ask for money as well e.g. you need to pay taxes to us.

The website seems to be inaccessible for some time, see: https://web.archive.org/web/20230000000000*/getcoinsmarket.com

I suggest staying away but if you're not convinced yet, a good middle ground approach is to: ask them if you could just give a bitcoin address for them to send the money to. Absolutely avoid signing up to some no-name exchange.

Here's a website for bitcoin wallets: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet - I recommend electrum.

EDIT:

Nvm the middle ground approach. On a second thought, I worry you could expose yourself to further mind tricks from the scammers if you engage in a conversation with them again.
905  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins, Telegram and Security on: April 24, 2023, 07:48:41 AM
Ooooh I've heard of this before. Looks like they're offering more service, thanks for the update  Cheesy

As for your question, I'll just treat it the same way I treat centralized and custodial platforms because they're in the same group. In addition, since they're still building up their reputation in the community, I'd also place them lower than already established CEXs.

There will be people who will try to get into your account so I suggest exploring your settings and enable anything that could improve security, particularly the "2fa password".
906  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: POST ALL PHISING SITES HERE (2023) on: April 24, 2023, 04:58:38 AM
I suggest breaking the links of the phishing websites you list to prevent the thread from becoming an extra backlink source for them and also accidental clicks - apparently this happens.

From your first example, the phishing website should become: syscoin.live or syscoin dot live
907  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: trading without fees on: April 23, 2023, 09:37:31 PM
Upcoming: Deribit is said to launch a zero-fee spot trading but they will only have 3 pairs, see: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5449522.0

Gate.io appears to still have zero maker fee, check latest announcement in: https://www.gate.io/zero-trading-fees

Note that both have mandatory KYC and these promos will ofc end at some point.
908  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning] New way of scamming in telegram on: April 23, 2023, 03:41:27 PM
This is the strange part  Huh but it seems like a new feature, last I check months ago, there was no "nobody" and only "my contacts" and "everyone".
this shouldn't be a new feature and if it is, it is a stupid one, I mean, what's the point of having a privacy setting that doesn't allow other people to add you to their group if Telegram decided to add this feature.

Uh, might have worded that poorly lol. But I meant the feature where people can set who can add them in a group chat to "nobody". Because if they just recently rolled it out, there's a higher chance that it's not that stable yet - there could be bugs and whatnot.

But yeah, whatever the case, report to telegram i guess. Aside from the typical support channel, they also have this for bugs, see: https://bugs.telegram.org/
909  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: incorrect output of information on blockcypher.com on: April 23, 2023, 03:23:58 PM
Okay, it appears blockcypher count the sats more accurately.

Notice that some transaction has a "more" function which brings this if you expand:

Quote
"Estimated Value Sent" excludes known change addresses. For example, let's say we have a single transaction where address A sends 1 BTC to address B and also 1 BTC back to address A as change, then only 1 BTC is estimated to have been sent. Proper use of a new change address for each transaction (like all HD wallet implementations) obfuscate this feature.

If we take the same situation in mempool.space: When 1 BTC goes back to address A as change, it will still be counted as a new addition in "Total Received" which inflates the amount.

Take a look at address bc1qhzdcqgeta3kh5an7354zln7ghmznlrm0ltnher with far less transactions made.

Blockcypher total received: .12
Mempool.space total received: 0.38284160

After receiving .12BTC, succeeding transactions used the same change address as the input's 'every time' so it's quite obvious this address has only received .12BTC. Now, count the sats everytime address ...m0ltnher is an output in a transaction and it'll equate to 0.38284160BTC Cheesy

Wondering why is MegaPari not here?

It is paused indefinitely

At week#22 we are in a pause now as said yesterday. You are free to remove your signature and avatar.

Once there is an update from the team I will let you know.

please tell me you already know this as I see you wearing their sig 👀
911  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning] New way of scamming in telegram on: April 23, 2023, 05:38:06 AM
somehow imposter creates TG account that doesn't exists, when I click on that profile, username, comment in chat I am taken to group description page that is set up to look like my personal profile

This is a telegram feature. Owners/admins in group chats can choose to "remain anonymous" - go to your group settings > administrators > choose an admin > remain anonymous.

When this option is turned on, you won't be able to see them in member list unless you're also an admin. When they chat, they will retain the group's picture and name - that's why at the start we see the perp match the group's picture and name to @emoneyabc's account.

additionally imposter add people to group despite privacy settings that don't allow that

This is the strange part  Huh but it seems like a new feature, last I check months ago, there was no "nobody" and only "my contacts" and "everyone".
912  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Billions scammed bbc doc on: April 22, 2023, 10:26:25 PM
In addition, just because your favorite media personality advertises a service, doesn't mean it's OK to trust it. Always remember they're getting paid for it and may not do their own due diligence before accepting the offer not to mention, not everyone can do a proper research and assess the risk involved. Who knows maybe their "research" is looking up trustpilot reviews which are easily filled with fake reviews.

Pointing this out cause the fake exchange appears to have gained credibility after sponsoring a known sports team. It's perfectly fine to become a fan of someone but we should all know our limits and not give in to weird parasocial attachments.
913  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: ok247trade.com scammers on: April 22, 2023, 08:37:56 AM
Typical fake exchange. Obscure, dreadful grammatical errors, usual money laundering accusations and ridiculous mandatory tax payment fee AKA deposit before you can withdraw scam.

Gotta say, their domain name is quite funny lmao as I find "ok247trade" on the same level with "No scam" or "100% legit/real" - words some scammers use a lot.
914  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me in choosing wallet before I make mistake on: April 22, 2023, 12:15:10 AM
You are a newbie and don't understand anything on wallets,so I would advice you not to go for a hard wallet yet because it is technical and a little mistake can mess things up.
I had no idea that being a newbie also means incapable of learning and understanding how to use a hardware wallet.  Smiley

Seriously though, I respectfully disagree. While hardware wallets may require some technical know-how, they also come with clear instructions and tutorials to help even a newbie get started. As long as the user follows the instructions carefully and takes necessary precautions, such as keeping their recovery seed phrase safe, there should be no reason why a newbie cannot use a hardware wallet. Plus, it is always good to learn by doing and gain hands-on experience.

What is the alternative, anyway? A software wallet or a mobile app? Because there's no way a newbie could ever make a mistake or accidentally compromise their security with one of those, right?

Can't speak for others as I don't have any experience with them but as far as ledger and trezor are concerned, I actually think it's great for beginners. One main reason is that, it mitigates a great load of online attacks, most of which software wallets won't be able to do much e.g. some malwares, so in terms of slip ups, we have much more leeway with hardware wallets.

Another great thing for beginners is that some software wallets supports HW's which means they can switch to their GUI if they don't like the official application from the manufacturer. For bitcoin, I recommend electrum's, it's feature packed while keeping everything simple and straight forward.
915  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Technical aspects of Bitcoin that hard or just for the talented. on: April 21, 2023, 09:11:28 PM
A newbie(guess my profile speaks for itself) I came across a thread that talked about the importance of technical analysis and I was hooked and tried to read some articles on it here. But despite how hard I try its just different terms been used and when I read about the said term I come across more words am unaware of. Sometimes there are some that involves code and seeing them make me feel like am seeing magic. So wanted to know if technical analysis requires talent or if not then can anybody assist me with something like "Technical analysis for dummy" because I can't really seem to understand it.
Thank you.

P.S I am sorry for the poor way I coined my question.
I meant Bitcoin technicalities like Block chains, hash rate, nodes and the likes.
I can already apply technical analysis just want to research more on the technical aspect of Bitcoin because coming across certain terms i don't understand while reading a thread is painful.

Upon reading the "P.S.", I'm assuming the first paragraph is about "bitcoin technicalities" and not necessarily about technical analysis in trading, correct?

If so, that doesn't seem like basic levels. When trying to learn new stuff, you always have to start with the basics otherwise it would be too overwhelming and I think that's why you seem to be having a hard time. The average "basic" could also be relative as we all have our own learning paces, I suggest learning how to backtrack when you have to cause crunching information more than what you can afford to is counter productive.

For this, I would also recommend learnmeabitcoin.com and perhaps you might find other helpful stuff in: https://www.lopp.net/bitcoin-information/getting-started.html

Another thing about self-learning is, I realize some people can explain it better for me lol so in short, if you didn't understand something from source X, source Y could do it for you. Try to always look for different sources of information  Cheesy

Starter: 0.01 BTC

Me and another member made an account and this wasn't the case for us, or is this only for selected users?
917  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gas station payment with bitcoin. on: April 19, 2023, 11:28:03 PM
Further payment processors can be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5444578.0
For holding/storing funds esp long term, I would recommend hardware wallets as well.

I would suggest investing in "bitcoin accepted" signages as well so you can reach more people. Adding bitcoin.org URL would be a nice touch for the people who are not familiar but curious enough. The website has some beginner friendly guides + the domain name is quite easy to remember/read even if you're just passing by.
918  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Who is Bitcoin.org on: April 19, 2023, 10:10:33 PM
The person who called me claims that they can send me money that I had invested in an online trading platform that was found to be fraudulent and was subsequently shutdown.  This person claims that my funds will be sent without me making a payment to them until after I have received my funds.

Typical scam. Bitcoin.org would never do something like this. They're also not a service and don't ask for people's phone numbers.

But let me guess? you have never placed a single cent to the trading platform they're talking about?

If you're still confused, you can always cross check with bitcoin.org if the claim is true because if it is, you would've seen it on the front page. Upon checking, there's nothing ofc.
919  Economy / Exchanges / Re: XGO on: April 19, 2023, 09:34:00 PM
How does this accusation apply to me?
I subscribe to many telegram channels about trading and news about the world of cryptocurrency. I've noticed a lot of attention towards Xgo lately, and this event inspired me to come here and start a discussion. Everything is very simple and no conspiracy theories Wink

You can't convince me this is just a coincidence  Wink

1. All the XGO talks started around the same time
2. The accounts involved all woke up around the same time
3. Three accounts promoted cryptogeek multiple times

See:

n0tailbg (OP) - https://ninjastic.space/search?author=n0tailbg&content=cryptogeek.info
frank07a - https://ninjastic.space/search?author=frank07a&content=cryptogeek.info
aria.newman - https://ninjastic.space/search?author=aria.newman&content=cryptogeek.info

Bonus: pay attention to aria.newman's post history and you'll notice this account has interacted with n0tailbg and frank07a at some point lol.
920  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Jumpstart Kits for Beginners to increase their privacy and decentralization on: April 19, 2023, 02:39:47 PM
I thought BTC can be bought in the exchange as dex, thanks for the correction, I have excemt it from the list above.

Is server a factor for an exchange to be decentralized? I thought when they don't hold your keys and your Bitcoin, the exchange is consider as been decentralized, anyways, I have learn a new thing.

Yeah, hodlhodl cleared this up themselves, see: https://hodlhodl.medium.com/launching-a-not-so-decentralized-exchange-9811e4f336c9

Bitcoin.org has good number of recommended wallet but all are software wallet, they don't recommend Hardware wallet. I have added link on my reference that discuss and rate hardware wallet by different experts in the forum, it was started by dkbit98 and here is the link to the thread-
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5288971.0, they are all open source.

They do have HW's, see: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet?step=5&platform=hardware but not as many so including the thread is a nice touch Cheesy

Koinly has been added already on the list of tax tools.

I meant their guides, some people may not know it. I find their guides quite helpful honestly, as I don't typically see country specific ones. Further, the information is in FAQ format making it easier to digest.
