how weird would it be to report to your.. 15 year old boss? he'd probably have to ask you for a ride him from work.

not to sound like a luddite, but it seems like we're starting to see a shift in the service industry, which is america's biggest labor pool. once things like that get automated, where will the jobs go? especially in the low skilled industries.

prior to that, jobs in factories and skilled labor were overtaken by improved technology. technology is not the same thing as AI. there's a difference in creating a car are much more cost-effective rates vs. firing all of your mcdonalds employees.

This is from my limited understanding of the situation:

Three decades ago, most of the American population was employed in jobs which required a lot of manual labor, such as coal mining and construction. But with the advancement of technology, the scope for such jobs have declined. Now most of the the population is employed in supermarkets (the biggest single provider of jobs in the US, if I am correct) and other service sector jobs. Requires less manual labor, is safer, and at the same time the average salaries are much higher.

yes, and that's why i said ai + technology would undo the middle class. the thing is, you said most of the labor pool was in the manufacturing/coal mining.. and that's true. what it did was shift from manufacture jobs to the service industry.

what i'm saying is that ai technology will remove the jobs required from the service industry, as it previously did with manufacturing. well then, where do people concentrate on jobs when the services field is overrun by robots?

Spurs thoroughly outplayed the Heat tonight, but the flopping that the Spurs do every game is killing me. They should be fined!

come on, both teams do it.. wade got fined last game. i hope next game goes to double overtime.. spurs can outlast the heat in a battle of attrition!

Dude parker and ginobli are the worst. They act like soccer players. Lol

yeah, they do flop a lot.. wade does it too. lebron isn't that bad though.

BTW, if the spurs lose before the 17th, you might have to wait a bit.. but it seems like there won't be a winner until after the 17th anyways. actually, since the heat are down 2-1, the earliest they can win it is by the 17th  Grin

Ok, do you have to wait for PD payment? If I lose I'll be able to pay you the same day

yeah, i use cold storage.. i could pay you that way, but it's too much of a hassle.

Fantastic finals series so far. After 3 games, each team won once on the road, and there is only 1 home team victory, which is very unusual.

Which team are you rooting for?
I prefer to see the Spurs win. I don't "hate" the Heat, but the Spurs are my choice and the huge road victory was a surprise.  Smiley

not this year.. we've seen the most road wins ever. besides, last year the spurs stole games 1 5 from miami, and miami beat the spurs on their floor as well.

sometimes i feel like paul krugman is just a troll.. and the more we react to his taunts, the more he likes it. more and more people will start talking about him.

so, i'm going to try and sign off on him. he's the liberal version of a republican troll.

21st century.. AI, robots.. and how it affects the human economy. more and more, we're going to see our jobs taken over by robots. that's going to lead to a decrease in jobs, which means a wider gap between the people who own and operate the robots and the people who don't. inequality is inevitable.

Oh.. again. The introduction of robots hasn't resulted in unemployment. Rather, it has resulted in commodities getting cheaper. For example, a car which cost some $20,000 to build earlier, was made available for $2,000. Innovation and new technology does more good than harm to the humans (off course with some exceptions like Nuclear weapons).

US is testing a few things through its proxy neighbors.  Nothing new.

In all seriousness, the cartels are picking up on this concept gradually.  There is literally no way for investigators to stop the flow of proceeds from their criminal enterprises via crypto currencies.  There are stash houses throughout the US in upper middle class neighborhoods with rooms stuffed in US currency that the cartels cannot get back south across the border.  With all forms of crypto this problem is solved.  However, the immediate conversion back into local fiat is another issue that would attract attention if it were even possible in one transaction.  I cannot fathom someone sitting on the south side of the border with a U-Haul full of cash just waiting to exchange it for crypto.  There is also the laundering aspect.  I suspect quite a bit is being shifted to Western Europe, split multiple times, and funneled through various legitimate connections (businesses likely connected to South American exports) and returned into Mexico via fiat banking as profits.

The old days of stuffing a million in cash in the dashboard, doors, and engine compartment are numbered.  Sometimes smaller amounts are sent through as "suicide" loads to distract from the mother load coming right behind.  Yep, law enforcement is light years behind in technology with the exception of a couple.

that was what i was thinking as well.. someone posted pictures of a cartel mansion, and there was crazy stacks of cash lying around. they have so much money that it's impossible to hide.. at least without bitcoin.

I have some old photos of ones around the DFW area in TX.  It is a scary feeling walking in and finding that stuff because we knew there were some heavy guns within a block or two ready to rescue the currency.  So far the cartels have avoided the kind of open conflict with US law enforcement unlike they do with LE in their own countries.  As the noose tightens this reservation is changing from one of not stirring the sleeping bear to one of necessity to retain their profits.  An old FBI Agent teaching us intelligence information said that the level if violence we see in Mexico against its government is the same level of violence the IS will see in 5 years.  He told us this three years ago and it coming true if you keep up with the headlines.

Bitcoin can eliminate unnecessary violence if you ask me.

well on the flip side, it can provide an easier way for the cartels to stash their money away and evade law enforcement.

Human population is still increasing in a finite resource world.

Even if the growth remain stagnant, the declining supply and abundant of fiat currency will keep the price up.

wait, what do you mean the declining supply of fiat currency? it's not declining.. it's doing the exact opposite right now.

1452  Other / Politics & Society / Re: GOP House Majority Leader Eric Cantor Goes Down Hard Tonight!! on: June 11, 2014, 04:25:50 AM
Too early to celebrate. I heard that Cantor is considering to contest the election as a write-in candidate. Considering that the constituency is heavily Republican, he may get the Democrat support. A repetition of the 2010 Alaska senate election? For sure, Cantor has the resources and funds to do the bogus voting and vote rigging.

That could be very risky.

Although GOP is expected (IMO) to gain seats in the house it is generally not good to risk any seats to the other party.

Having two republicans run against each other greatly increases the chances of a Democrat winning the seat.

you know, the funny thing is that republicans get the lower amount of votes, but end up winning more seats due to gerrymandering.

http://library.cqpress.com/elections/document.php?id=rcookltr-1527-84193-2523552

democrats aren't as organized or vicious as republicans, hence them being mocked as pussies.

GOP is able to garrymander due to control of Govonorships and state legislatures.

it would be nice if the lawmakers weren't the ones making the rules imposed on them. fucking ridiculous how they are so willing to cut everyone else's budgets but their own. many people have suggested that they be paid based on results, but they won't budge. that's like writing someone a blank check.
1453  Economy / Speculation / Re: My gut says... on: June 11, 2014, 04:21:38 AM
if your gut is telling you what to feel, with no logical reasoning, then i won't listen to it. a picture still needs to be painted.

My reasoning is that last fall right around sept 15th were were in a stretch much like this one, steady rise, looking good, but then wham, bad news, people got bored, whatever... and we dropped more than 25%.

I believe bitcoin is like groundhog day and that Tom Cruise movie. We are just reliving the same story with slightly new players. We are going to plod along like this for another 10-17 days if we are lucky, then a bunch of weak handed new blood or old blood are going to dump their coins. Bad news maybe, bored investors maybe, but it is going to happen. It might only last a week, but I suggest you have a buy order in below $510 to meet your taste.

so you're saying that you think there will be some explosive news coming out after it dips? because that's what happened in september.

well i think it will rebound quickly, but might be not so quickly, how it does is not that interesting to me, unless it is something like a collapse of a currency where Bitcoin already has a foot hold, that would be awesome

really? i find the "how" very interesting, as it determines the factors that go into play. the last bull-run was probably from china's entering the game, and then it was topped off by positive hearings in the house. the new injected factors dictate how the game is played later down the road.

it's funny because the republicans have been trying to marginalize the teabaggers, but apparently they (and the koch brothers) have created a monster that is possibly too big to destroy now. what i want to know is how can cantor go in with a conceived 34% lead in the polls, yet lose..
Social media, right wing conservative talk host support and GOTV. Plus, as I alluded to my other thread the district party's delegates were heavily in favor of Brat and likely did a lot of the legwork needed to produce turnout.

doesn't explain why their internal polling was so off though.

but yeah, apparently cantor rubbed too many elbows and lost a lot of support doing it.

Quote
Each time he twisted tea party arms, though, it cost him politically, raising suspicions among grassroots activists that Cantor was an impure conservative. On Tuesday night, the tea party said no.

the funny thing is that he was the tea party supporter guy, and yet he got overtaken by one.

Why is that liberal?

Paul Krugeman is a liberal, in the context of US politics.

It will be interesting/humorous to look back at bitcoin naysayers in the same way!

Sure, but the prediction has nothing to do with liberalism...

it's just a prediction by a liberal economist.. who bitcoiners hate with a passion, because he's saying the same thing about bitcoins.
