if you are worried about theft you should go with pc case which you can pad lock (or mod it so you can lock it)..you can use chains, chain that pc so nobody can pick it up and animals can't damage it...i've seen modified case for gpu mining here in mining section of the forum that can accommodate maybe 6 gpus.

you can't go wrong with free electricity...start with one rig, number of cards depends on how many you can put in there.

off line wallets? how much space do i need on HDD?
with GPU mining does a SSD HDD even make any difference?
can you mine GPU if there is an internet loss of connection for a short time?
whats your guys average use for internet bandwith ? (vs your capacity (#rate)
is windows or Linux better?

off line wallets?.. you can mine directly to exchange like poloniex, you can mine to a wallet address even if its not connected to internet, coins will be there after it synced when it goes online.

SSD or HDD does not affect gpu mining...I'm still using 80gb sata HDD here.

mining software typically/normally resumes after the internet connection goes back online.

mining does not consume a lot of bandwidth...the lowest ISP bandwidth I've used in mining is 3mbps and i think even with about 512 kbps bandwidth you can still mine..

I'm using windows and I'm okay...Linux users here will tell you they are okay too....so just setup what would be comfortable to you..mining is a journey, you can change things to cater your needs later.

@arielbit, mechanical systems don't need to be constant use a normal 3 phase motor connected to an inverter with an  'active front end' and a small controller (I bet an arduino would work), that's what I work with massive inverters 3-12Mw currently offshore on 6Mw inverters but work on siemens 3.6mW wind turbines, solar farms (3-10Mw) 'yes even in the uk hahahah! and hydro electric power stations (denorwig 'electric mountain') and even small chp plants burning woodchip with only 45kw power lol...

that's another passion of mine renewable energy.... hence why if I see wasted power I want to do something with it.... bit of hashing I believe Wink

gonna have a few reads about the info you've given me...I wanted to acquire a land with a stream going through it so one day I can have a mini hydro power plant too (yeah keep dreaming hehe  Cheesy ).

that's an excellent passion..crypto needs more miners with renewable energy. in my eyes miners with renewable energy are one of the upper/higher class of miners like people who can mod cards to become more efficient and people who can develop miner software.

imagine bitcointalk in the future have a new section "renewable energy section" hehe anyway..good luck mining cryptos, with renewable energy I'm pretty sure you'll have a new kind passion coming to you (crypto mining).

Cheesy
hahah its not mine, a mates...

Next time im there ill take a few pics. im sure he will let me. its a nice small setup hes just a lucky Bstard lol

and maybe we can make a new thread about  water turbines...maybe some of us, including me can learn about those turbine setups, and what kind of stream is good enough to generate substantial amount of energy....got a lot of questions going on in my head.

Yeah I want to see about the water power.

I am rebuilding the solar array layout in may to prep for the summer power rate

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1369207.0

op when I got into the solar array deal  I was geared towards using the s-9 and r-4 from bitmaintech  and the gear broke a lot.

I am looking forward to running  more gpu gear then planned this year.

i've seen your solar power thread..batteries and inverter regulates voltage output while mechanical power generation requires constant speed like 1800 rpm...water stream speed is not always constant...if charging batteries and inverter will be used to regulate voltage for water power it would be a much more expensive setup.

If you need DSH - mine Monero, sell it and buy DSH - 3x more efficient comparing to direct DSH mining!!!! Smiley

haha. back in time i was mining DSH and trading it to XMR in poloniex...so now its the other way around.
1709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU Mining Rig System RAM (is 4gb enough?) & VM question. on: April 23, 2017, 01:43:43 AM
I've been thinking about using VM for running a mix nvidia and amd rig.. don't know if it works but it could be useful in certain cases..
1710  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v12.4 (Windows/Linux) on: April 21, 2017, 09:48:51 PM
MINE WITH SPEED
Zcash are most profitable than any other mining hardware equihasher A1& A2 (Muted miners).Zcash mining are better than bitcoin dash monero ethereum. It doesn't create sound(noise) muted miners you can easily start mining at home. It gives huge return (return on investment) roi with zcash mining. If you can get zcash mining hardware then why taking risk with cloud mining contract.
Buy zcash mining hardware equihasher  https://equi-hash.com
All the purchasing cost will recover in 2 or 3 months.  Not like other mining hardware like bitcoin that the initial purchasing cost will recover in atleast 10 months or may be after it.

Share with people to receive the discount.

Sounds very cool
Please take all my money immediately!

the power adapter says it all

1712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New 1080/1060 11gbps/9gbps on: April 21, 2017, 04:28:24 AM
Both cards are going to be faster by 1 GHz. The new GTX 1080 now has 11 Gbps of effective memory speed, while the new GTX 1060 has 9 Gbps.
I think this give us a nice boost for Equihash mining if overclockable like 8gbps version (+500)

Who will be the first? Just curious to test it

Links to these cards

look at zotac 1080s

https://www.zotac.com/us/product/graphics_card/GeForce-GTX-1080/all

they released a ZOTAC GeForceŽ GTX 1080 AMP Extreme+   ...with "+" and it is 11.2ghz vs 10.8ghz compared to its predecessor

curious on what will be its performance on ZEC compared to 1080 ti models... the 1080 ti amp extreme is also at 11.2ghz hmm.
1713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dash Instamine is a non-issue. on: April 20, 2017, 11:16:16 AM
Partial Instamine is a non-issue.

1. Bill Gates pre-mined Microsoft stocks.
2. Mark Zuckerberg pre-mined Facebook stocks.
3. Vitalik pre-mined Ethereum.
4. Crypto-coins are both digital gold and a stock.

I believe that creators need to have financial incentives to make their projects a success.

EDIT: Here a guy that wrote an article that Bitcoin is not a digital gold, but more like a company stock. Good read !
https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/65ks6p/critical_misunderstanding_bitcoindigital_gold/

EDIT2: Even better would be, for the investors, is if creator pre-mines his coins, but uses a 5-year TIME LOCK transaction, so he can't dump it on the market. This will provide a long-term motivation to improve his creation. Pump-and-Dump out; Innovation in !

-Technologov

For you maybe.  The instamine would be 'OK' only if Mr. Duffield informed everyone that he would do so.  But he didn't.  He broke a social contract with the community and that's a bad and dishonest thing to do.  But whatever, DASH is riding sky high and that's what matters for everybody interested in it right?  Wink

Actually Mr. Duffield suggested an airdrop but the Dash community found that a bad idea and it was decided that the best way was to just move forward.
Specially as such a large portion of the instamine got mass-sold on exchanges right after the instamine happened.

Which means he did not break any social contract.

You realize that informing everyone that he would instamine and later briefly offering an airdrop before quickly withdrawing the offer are two completely different things, yes?

If you're going to spin and offer excuses, at least try to use ones that actually make some sense.

Okay, i misread that part but that still does not mean he broke any social contract with the Dash community. The instamine happened due to faulty coding and bad preparation
while attracting the attention of a lot of miners with high hashrate. He made up for his mistakes by his hard work with developing the coin, the community moved on and the coin has grown into something much larger now then was first envisioned.

hmmm...okay let's go inside Evan Duffield's head  Cool

here you go..

DASH Masternodes - the perfect motive for the instamine
1714  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dash Instamine is a non-issue. on: April 19, 2017, 01:37:55 AM
the more DASH shills cover it with bullshit upon bullshit just makes it more stinkier...

non issue...old issue...the only issue I am seeing here is DASH shills not getting their story straight.
1715  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dash Instamine is a non-issue. on: April 17, 2017, 10:39:34 AM
try to remove profit/value/worth/boat from the equation, you are just making the discussion murky...for me I'm just making the story straight and clean  Grin

Yes I try to remove "that"... And then I can remove all the rest I wrote...

that is called STFU hehe..or looking at different angles.

go and buy DASH buddy..i prefer other boats  Wink

I like this coin but name of this coin may be confuse with DASH
 Grin Grin Grin

this is the true DASH.
1717  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dash Instamine is a non-issue. on: April 17, 2017, 10:09:55 AM
I don't see any problem either. They premined... So what ?!? At that time the coin was probably worth shit.

Anyway if that really was a big issue the market would have decided. It clearly made its decision...

So the people criticising are probably the ones that normally don't get into these "boats", and just stay on the sidelines yelling for it to fall...

It can happen, but you already lost a big profit

just look how qwizzie tried to make a different story of the past...that's where things get twisted and get called a "non-issue", they back it up by lies upon lies..

try to remove profit/value/worth/boat from the equation, you are just making the discussion murky...for me I'm just making the story straight and clean  Grin

try to look at some critics accounts here...they've been here for quite a while, so if you're gonna make something up..expect a correction  Wink
1718  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: biggest profit for miner devs not miners on: April 17, 2017, 04:29:15 AM
the money is out there...go miner devs! competition is healthy.

it is some what feels good running claymore, optiminer and ewbf on my different rigs..the more the better.
1719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dash Instamine is a non-issue. on: April 16, 2017, 07:59:01 PM
And why would pivx be better ? What makes their dev team better ? The fact that it is a clone proves the team is average tops and the project is vaporware.

because pivx was not instamined like dash, but dash was not actually instamined, darkcoin was instamined up to 5 million from the dev, and then they did the swap with the so called dash, but one is a pos and the other cna still be mined, even if dash is bad because instamined, i still like it more because you can mine

Just to be clear : there were only name changes involved.

Xcoin : conflict with another coin so a new name was needed
Darkcoin : needed a rebranding for mainstream adaption
Dash : final branding name

These name changes did not involve a change from proof of work (POW). Dash just put a second tier on top of the miners,
called it proof of service and gave the masternodes of that second tier rewards for providing services to the network.
(PrivateSend, InstantSend, Voting). Masternodes and miners each earn 45% of the blockrewards and 10% of the blockrewards
goes to the decentralized budget system.

There also exist a Dashcoin but that is a totally seperate cryptocurrency, not to be confused with Dash.

FYI

i never thought qwizzie was a comedian  Cheesy

the irony hehe

Xcoin : conflict with another coin so a new name was needed
Darkcoin : needed a rebranding for mainstream adaption
Dash : final (or not so final-depends) branding name : entered another conflict with another coin so Darkcoin can have its cool name

FTFY

Just to be clear : there were only name changes involved.

after the instamine, the total supply was changed from 84 Million to about ~20 Million to make the instamine loot a lot more valuable...the masternode concept was also hidden from the public so insiders can accumulate more while people dump and/or didn't buy due to lack of information, people don't know that they will be able to POS their coins with masternodes and what is the masternodes role in the network.

1720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Closed Air GPU mining rigs? on: April 15, 2017, 12:15:26 PM
distribute...

i have a pc in each rooms (upstairs). a pc downstairs and a pc for surveillance...all are with a GPU or two (all are mining).

putting them in cases and letting them standing next to each other is useless, they are better off without cases

setup servers(different kinds), computerize/tech up your home and put GPUs in them to mine...by distributing them around you distribute the heat..

this is where the bigger and badder GPU's have an advantage, take ZEC for example, 2x 1080 ti setup can give you 1400 sols.

note: the more GPU you can put at each PC the better.

tip: do you have a problem in specific areas where humidity is a bit high? where mold and mildew grows?...put a mining rig in that area Wink
