1421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best thermal paste for GPU??? on: May 07, 2018, 12:07:24 AM
It doesn't matter which paste you use. I've heard people using toothpaste ffs lol!

All this assuming you can disassemble the heatsink easily without causing any damage to any components.

Are you serious about the toothpaste? I'm asking for a, uhh, friend. I'm wondering if that would actually work or if it would cause internal damage of some kind.

The hardest part about reapplying the thermal paste always seems to be either reassembling/disassembling the heatsink or simply putting back on the case of the rig.

i've used toothpaste a few times  on cpu's when i ran out of thermal paste...now that i have a stock pile of thermal paste because i'm a miner, there is no need to use toothpaste..just saying it can be useful for emergency situations..

you guys should be looking at liquid metal..recently I delidded an i7 8700k, it reduced the temp to around 15c (prime 95 stress test)........my gpus with liquid metal are now exceeding my typical thermal paste replacement time compared to one of the best thermal paste out there that I used-gelid gc extreme.....it also has lower temps compared to typical thermal paste.
1422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best thermal paste for GPU??? on: May 06, 2018, 03:39:12 AM
A word of warning.

If you got an old GPU like a Radeon 7950 or some other 5 year old GPU, then avoid doing any thermal paste changes.

Basically the factory paste is old and like glue and when you separate the heat sink from the chip, it will be hard to get off which will end up using force and you might break some of the solder balls which attach the GPU chip to the PCb board.

thermal paste will degrade and become inefficient, in my experience in the past..my 280x rig hangs, the problem was one of the the GPU needs thermal paste replacement it was Gelid GC Extreme, lasted for a year..when they dried up and become in efficient, they were like dry thin film of brittle grey stuff.

haven't seen one like your're describing...i typically replace thermal paste for about a year or two...not five years (they don't last that long, performance wise) and these good thermal paste don't act like glue..

anyway always try to lift the heat spreader a bit on all side to loosen the "stickiness" and not on a single side only...
1423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best thermal paste for GPU??? on: May 06, 2018, 01:28:35 AM
Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut and Cool Laboratory Liquid Ultra....they are liquid metal

they corrode aluminum though..and they are CONDUCTIVE so apply carefully, their application is not the same as thermal paste.

1425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: May 05, 2018, 10:03:20 AM
Not a very active community, eerily quiet 🤫

The community abandoned bitcointalk long time ago due trolling.

You can find the community here:

DashNation on Discord:
https://discord.gg/9z8zX5j

Dash forum:
https://www.dash.org/forum

Dash Pages - 'Communication/News' Social Media, Chat Groups,Blogs .... (Nov 2017)
https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/dash-pages-communication-news-social-media-chat-groups-blogs-nov-2017.6460

enjoy,
I don't think hiding in the darkness is a smart decision. It's time this community come out from beneath it's rock and face the world. Every coin has trolls to deal with, it's the nature of the business. A privacy coin doesn't require private community.

You are not making much sense here. Dash Nation, Dash Forum and the Dash social media channels are all public forums where anyone can participate. There is no hiding in the darkness or a need to come out from any particular rock,
the only difference between those websites and this Bitcointalk forum website is that this forum is not moderated, except by the moderator from the bitcointalk forum.

This Bitcointalk forum is not exactly abandoned like Tungfa mentioned, its more like Dash has outgrown this forum and successfully started up many other Dash communitcation channels / websites which is only natural for such
an internationally focussed cryptocurrency movement.

This does mean Dash Nation, Dash Forum and the Dash social media channels offer Dash more control on those people who spam Dash forums trying to promote other cryptocurrencies or on those people engaged in trolling activities.
Its a bit weird to see someone relatively new to Dash, show such limited understanding about Dash.
These dash run social media channels are great for those who are already invested in dash but they will do nothing to capture new investors coming in to the crypto market. Talking down to new investors isn't going to help either. This community needs an overhaul if it really wants to compete with all the new projects entering the space. Unless of coarse you're complacent watching dashes market cap slide down the chart.

There are much better ways to attract new investors, then keeping a high profile on the Bitcointalk forum (which Dash has basicly outgrown by now). The answer lays in Dash budget proposal system that funds meetings, establish Dash communities in other countries (like Venezuela) and
create and strenghten Dash own eco-system consisting of merchants, users and service providers.

Links :

https://www.dashcentral.org/budget
https://dashvotetracker.com/

There really is no need to feel worried about Dash marketcap position, its both out of our control (Dash community and Dash dev team) and it is subject to market cycles. Only shortterm investors unnecessarily worry about marketcap position.

Don't forget what got dash in to the top ten. It sounds like to me you're team has become complacent." (which Dash has basicly outgrown by now)" I think it's time to get off your high horse and get back in the trenches where projects are competing. Don't underestimate forum's like bitcointalk, this is where all the new investors are looking.

If you really believe all new investors are only looking in this sub-forum of the Bitcointalk, you have a lot to learn about how investors operate and on which level they move. Professional investors check multiple sources, with this Bitcointalk forum source the absolute lowest on their watch list.
This Dash Bitcointalk sub-forum currently has 6617 pages and is absolutely a nightmare to find relevant information about Dash roadmap and its project updates in back. There is no sorting of any kind, just one ANN thread where everything gets dumped in, page after page. At least 50% of these pages
consists of trolling posts or people promoting other cryptocurrencies.

Just for the sake of argument, i suggest you compare this Bitcointalk ANN thread with the official Dash Forums (https://www.dash.org/forum/) & https://docs.dash.org/en/latest/introduction/about.html, its much easier for investors to retrieve reliable information through these official Dash websites.

@yonton

when DASH price falls these fuckers are gonna be running back here LOL

1426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: DIY FPGA Mining rig for any algorithm with fast ROI on: May 05, 2018, 09:38:56 AM
No, it is u that dont get it. U ARE COMPETING with asics because asics will push difficulty to the coins u are mining. Profit margins for mining are thin these days. It is abit higher right now compared to 1-2 months ago due to recent price spike but that will correct soon as more hashrate enters market. U can always have an alt coin to mine but it is gonna make low or negative returns for u because of difficulty increase, which are pushed by asics from other coins.

If GPU miners are pushed from ETH to another coin that is FPGA-mineable then:

1) diff goes up but an FPGA is still more profitable than a GPU;
2) diff goes way up, a GPU is not profitable anymore, still profitable for an FPGA;

There are many other variables in this and many other reasons why this might or might not work, but what you're saying doesn't really make much sense. I think you're misunderstanding how difficulty adjustment works. It will go down if profitability turns negative.

No because u can buy an FPGA, so can everyone else. FPGA is the new GPU. It just costs money which everyone has. Mining is easy, everyone can do it.
U make such an FPGA first. U are first and it has 6 months break even. Really quickly, everyone else will have an FPGA and break even will go to 11-15 months or so, the rough average.
See post 268 for a simpler illustration. I leave that as the last explanation of the conceptual flaw.

How fast can u start buying the items and do this. Lets see this go forward yes.

I don't even know what you're talking about or how it relates to what I posted. "Everyone" is not going to have FPGAs overnight, the whole thing is still in its infancy (scale-wise; I'm sure some smart folks have been mining with FPGAs for a while). GPU mining ramp-up for big farms took months even during the massive ETH boom, and that was with an off-the-shelf product available in huge quantities.

Break-even of 15 months is great for those who don't exhibit the ASIC-induced attention span of a toddler. I still have some GPUs I bought in 2015. Paid off many times over. I don't have ASICs from 2015. Can you guess why?

let me guess....

mine the next big thing and/or mine the next big pump  Grin

He just need you to buy from his link in order for him to make cash !!

I was the one that had the info about ZEC miner from BITMAIN ....
They are coming more ASICS.  Grin Grin Grin infos later ..

This is exactly why they are calling this version the mini. Its a marketing and profit ploy. ZCash and Zencash are already not forking, so they will be able to sell a lot of these ASICs. Zencash was so kind to even retweet bitmains release tweet. Probably getting paid from bitmain too.

makes sense for zencash not forking, devs owned a lot of coins that they can have supernodes and continue profiting and a partnership with ASIC manufacturers might bring in the $$

For those w/ 1080/1080ti's

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3370685.0

http://cryptomining-blog.com/9757-get-up-to-about-50-mhs-on-eth-with-gtx-1080-ti-and-ohgodanethlargementpill/

It's a tool that injects modified gddr5x memory timings during runtime. Kicks the ethash up another notch

Saw this thread too. Amazing work by devs but too bad tho it only works for ethash. Even if it gets your ETHlarges your 1080/1080tis to 52+MH/s it's still won't matter much because there are still other coins/algos that are more profitable. Or am i missing something here?

this must be utilizing the gddr5x memory to its full potential...

I remember when people are saying the HBM memory in fury and nano aren't worth it..and then it became good at equihash..

now i also remember when people are saying 1080/1080ti gddr5x are not worth it because gddr5 is king...now devs know how to harness gddr5x full power...we'll see  Cool

Its a wild leap of speculation to equate 'merge mined' to the masternodes implementation which only came years later, back then there could have been any number of directions Dash could go in.. The detailed plans you highlight  could have been about almost anything, eg the X11 algorithm for mining which was the big feature then. Its an interesting theory but you'll need a lot more evidence to convince anyone.

Point A: X11 is an imitation of quarkcoin's X6..just like todays x17, not so big now eh? Tongue ..how about masternodes are not DASH originals? but that's another topic..

Point B: merge-mining is two or more ways to mint coins...not a coin mining algorithm..

Point C: we are not talking about implementation, we are talking about the MOTIVE..(masternodes inside evan's head)

launch date was January 19, 2014

To defeat propagation problems, master nodes are elected each new block. They are responsible for being the authority of what goes into the joined transaction each session. This is done in a tamperproof way, but I think it’s not important to the discussion.

I reduced your "years" to "1 month" haha  Grin

and there is an accumulation phase...within that 1 month.. why is he hoarding coins like the instamine wasn't enough? because he will mint coins using masternodes.(merge mining POW and masternodes)...brilliant  Wink isn't it?

Hello,

We’re a startup looking for 1 or 2 really good C++ programmer that is
familiar with the bitcoin internals to help with a for-profit startup.

We will be able to provide more information about the project after signing
a non-compete/non-disclosure agreement. Our coin will be one of the truly
unique coins that are not just a clone of the original Bitcoin code. In
short the project will be a merge-mined altcoin that will provide a very
useful service to the whole crypto-coin ecosystem.

If you have added any features to Bitcoin or related technologies this is a
definite bonus. Please include information about the work you’re done in
the space.

We have detailed plans on how to implement it and the roles we are looking to fill. If interested please email eduffield82 at gmail.com with a description of your work experience and we’ll vett the applications and share our plans to see if you’re interested.

Thanks,

I want to play it too but i don't know how. Maybe you can give me a tip first and teach me how to play it.

If you let me into your boat i would much appreciate it. You will have gained a friend for life. Thats more important because when your boat sinks, who knows, i might have already found another boat for us.  Grin

some people here have huge mining/hashing capability..spreading the word will make the difficulty rise in a day or two, i encourage every miner to do your own altcoin digging....like a guy with a metal detector roaming around looking for gold nuggets...that's why it is fun..

How much of dash was premined? and is there any sharing masternode pool to be a part of it
Dash was never premined [...]

It was instamined, which means instead of being mined by the devs before the project is released it was mined right after by the devs before other's joined in. The difference is only a technicality.

Not that it makes DASH scam, but you can't hide the fact it happened.

It was not mined just by the devs right after release, it was mined by many other miners as well.
The difference between a intentional and pre-announced premine and an accidental instamine is much more then just a technicality, they form different categories.

Nobody is hiding the fact that the instamine happened, not sure why you felt the need to say that.. it is public knowledge in Dash forums since 2014 and I pointed to Dash instamine history in my previous post (same link as UdjinM6 also provided)

People should really avoid using words like premine with regards to Dash, when they don't really understand it's definition.
To those people intend on pressing Dash in the premine corner anyways : it's not working anymore, try something else.

As I understand that facts are these. It wasn't premined or instamined. (Whatever instamined is actually meant to mean). The term 'fast mined' is more accurate.  The emmission was too fast in the beginning due to bug in the code. And Evan jumped the gun with the commencement  of the project. Also there wasn't a windows binary for mining (boo hoo, who as a serious crypto hacker uses windoze anyway?). You can argue that Evan intentionally jumped the gun and / or intentionally left a fastmine bug in the code. This is where the scam meme originates. You can equally well give benefit of doubt that they were unintentional.

Regardless of the MOTIVE you need to also consider it is a fact that no-one at that time knew what Dash would grow into, not Evan or anyone else. The coins of that time had very little value for a reason. There has been ample time for early beneficiaries of the fast mine to sell on open market. It is my opinion that there is no fair way to distribute any coin. And the Dash way, flaws and all is much better than most.

but evan knows something that he intentionally hide/suppress regarding masternodes..
DASH Masternodes - the perfect motive for the instamine

--snip--

it was first mined by people who can compile the miner code on linux. and people who could not compile the miner on linux had to wait for the compiled windows binary.

and use amazon's humongous computing power to premine/instamine/fastmine the living shit out of this coin like this guy and his friends here  Wink
