561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: April 03, 2018, 07:12:13 PM
I just did some due diligence on RavenCoin and all I can say is, best of luck to you all mining it, because it looks like a train wreck to me. Two different ANN threads with lots of infighting, questionable mining software, and the coin itself doesn't really seem any different from any other random shitaltcoin. I'm going to stick to DERO, ZEN & ITNS. And MUSIC!

EDIT - this sounds a bit harsh/combative upon re-reading it, and that's not the intended spirit; rather, I'd very much like to hear the counterarguments in favor of RVN, because from my (admittedly jaundiced/cynical) perspective it only seems have the support of the CEO of Overstock.com who is, let's say, a rather colorful character (or a crackpot, if you prefer).

Ok, if you are mining you dont really care about that stuff.  I just dont like the inflation on the coin, with no planned "deflation" aka a la Bitcoin.  But miners are getting shafted with the ASIC invasion so they seek new innovations with ASIC resistant properties, for, well, the decentralized ideology and all.  So they will mine RVN, they will create demand for it, they will pump it.  Im pretty sure of it.  Mine when difficulty is low and sell when price is high.  Of course I get that right about 0.1% of the time.
562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell / Pascal kernels. on: April 01, 2018, 03:39:41 PM
Where I live liquidating GPU's is very easy, 24 hours max. Not as fast as pushing 'sell' button but still quite fast.

No. And you'll lose a fuckton of money doing that. I don't think you've spent any amount of time selling anything online, such as eBay.

Where I live people don't use shitty services like eBay, also living in an area where there are enough potential buyers helps.

I've sold some PC components including GPU's this weekend too. Only cash, only fast pick-up. All gone. No fees.

Hmm well my anecdotal evidence from local listings in a major metropolitan area where there are many crypto miners says different.  Market seems frozen, no buyers, many sellers.  Im trying to sell a couple VEGA 56s because of summer (I always downsize a bit for summer) and they so far have had no bids on ebay and no takers on local listings.  I am selling them for what I paid for when they came out.  So about 550usd and no one wants them.  I see rigs for sale All Kinds and people are panicking.  Which is fine, let them panic.  I also sell risers locally and other adapters.  No buyers anymore.  Which, again, is fine with me.

And on a few new coins, some large idiots have been pretty much forking coins and instamining blocks on purpose with a multiple of current network hashrate.  Shameful.

P.S.  What the heck is up with all these new stats in this forum.
563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: March 28, 2018, 02:40:50 AM
RVN was really profitable if you held on and sold at the current pump, but even then you'd have had to be very patient.  The only issue I have with it is the 21 billion coins, on a continuous issuance (maybe someone can correct me on that).  So no pre-programmed "deflation", there will always be a lot of new supply.  But I think multi-algo ASIC resistant coins are going to be more popular....once the ASIC invasion becomes mainstream.  I looked at that ETH difficulty/hashrate chart....it is obvious.
564  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is your local Craigslist / Kijiji flooded with GPUs ? on: March 22, 2018, 11:50:43 PM
Mining is very risky, and compared to just buying coins when they are low, probably not as profitable.  Its a really, really, really good investment if you know what you are doing and will stay informed and interested over years and keep at it.  just dont think its easy.

Is this worrying to any of you veterans?

http://fortune.com/2018/03/20/bitcoin-price-blockchain-child-porn-ban-crime/

I'm usually able to shrug off MSM bitcoin FUD but this makes me nervous.

No thats 100% bullshit FUD crap.  Do not worry about it, in fact, place bitcoin keys in a safe place and just forget about it until 2021 or something like that.  We must be patient and wait it out.
566  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: March 21, 2018, 01:53:15 PM
I have S9 12.93TH hashboard sent to bitmain HK for repair (out of warranty) batch 13, 2016, they said it cannot be repaired anymore, scrap it or send back. WHY cannot?  Huh Undecided i asked them and havent replied why.
Anyone know who can repair this? in Asia location please or USA. Thanks~!

what is the problem with the S9? Maybe they do not have parts.

S9 is on its end of life cycle, soon to be obsolete.  All these big farms with S9s will be crying soon - UNLESS - we get another huge pump wave for bitcoin.  But new ASICS are coming, S9 is no longer the efficiency king and in one year owning an S9 will be like owning an S7 now I suppose.  So probably still profitable but maybe not.  If they do not have "parts" for it, then that does not surprise me.  There is a place in colorado that repairs Antminers i think, you can look it up, i think its bitmainrepair.
567  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: March 19, 2018, 01:51:16 PM
Farm update. 189 gpus freshly deployed.

...

All except 2 rigs are my hosting clients equipment. Mostly 1060s, some 1050tis.

A client is looking to put upwards of $500k into gpu mining with me taking care of the equipment. We are now looking at other countries like canada and estonia. Malaysia's $0.085/kwh is decent but makes sense to strive for cheaper costs.

.... and cooler climate.

All of my group's ASICs farms are in Canada, and they enjoy the 9-month year long cool. Its too bad that almost all of the hosting facilities there are maxed out - probably no thanks to China mining farms. Seems that electricity hikes are also likely...

In reality there is plenty of available power, we are in a surplus situation.  Hydro-Quebec has given a big "fuck you" to bitmain and others - mining farms are leeches, lets be honest - they bring nothing to society.  No jobs.  No expertise, nothing.  Income is shady and moved around the world, so no real net benefit for Quebec if we subsidize their electricity costs.  Which is why we have huge aluminum production facilities - but these make a whole region the size of an European country live - and live well.  So they get 1cent power.  not miners.

Long story short, if you want to mine in Quebec there is plenty of power and opportunity to do so.  you'll pay shy of 10cents all included cad with taxes overall for a business.  In my home its around 7cents all included CAD, service fees, taxes and all.  I have a company here but dont do hosting.  I dont really like the business model of hosting miners, and im really allergic to anything that has "cloud" in proximity to the word "mining".  Im doing nothing after winter ends here til autumn due to career changes but off the top of my head if you have 150k+ worth of miners then it makes sense to rent a place with existing power near Montreal calculating all costs.  below that and fixed costs eat too much.  I could provide half that from stock.  If you are interested im personally thinking about expanding if gpu prices crash down to msrp and lower and will need a new place.  I dont want to sell hosting though I do not have enough capital to finance everything and i really dont feel like mortgaging my house for this lol.

One of the bigger players here is financed by israel interests and most likely chinese capital.  http://montrealgazette.com/business/crypto-miner-bitfarms-to-invest-250-million-in-sherbrooke-facility
Most projects are exclusively S9 farms.  Dont ask me why though, makes no sense to me.

570  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: March 15, 2018, 10:23:51 PM
Its simple economics really.  Bitmain may have made 100 000 ASICS, but if the total market is equivalent to 3000 ASICS (lets assume), then all they need to do is calculate how much they can add to the hashrate without dropping profitability too much relative to the price of the coin.  So it would be much more profitable to simply gradually add 35% of total hashrate over 2-3 months and mine, and keep adding hashrate as the coin price rises.  After a while you can sell all your machines but the point is at first its more profitable to keep the machines in the boxes.  So perhaps they have been mining for a very long time now, but maybe someone else has made one (hint) and now they feel obligated to sell their used hardware as always.
571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer X3 -- 220KH+ Cryponight - 550W on: March 15, 2018, 10:15:36 PM
Coins will adapt, I doubt bitmain is going to have a great success with this one...or maybe they will but not the buyers.  Its hard to justify the price, but it seems bitmain prices its ASICS at least initally at around 60 days ROI without electric.
572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: March 15, 2018, 02:24:43 AM
Well The excavator miner from nicehash switches really, really fast.  They explained how it works, it has drawbacks too but its pretty good software.
573  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bminer: a fast Equihash miner for CUDA GPUs (5.5.0) on: March 15, 2018, 02:20:44 AM
thats pretty much the same so far but over a week we should get a meaningful number.  All bets are off !
574  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: March 15, 2018, 02:17:05 AM
its fine, but for future questions on power, a wattmetter is your best friend.  then you can adjust your tdp and see how it changes your power usage, etc.
575  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bminer: a fast Equihash miner for CUDA GPUs (5.5.0) on: March 09, 2018, 03:02:31 AM
Atleast acknowledge user concerns instead of completely ignoring them.

well just that, disregarding any facts that can be found, kinda shows what is up with the software I guess.  I wouldnt really use it.  You can try excavator too.
576  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: March 08, 2018, 03:23:19 AM
Seems to me that Bitmain is going to have to change their slogan for the S9:  "The worlds most efficient miner".
577  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 2.7c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Windows) on: March 07, 2018, 03:26:51 AM
Hi
I am trying to change from Claymore to Phoenix miner (8x Rx580 and 2x GTX1060) from some time ago... with 2.6 version... now trying with 2.7 version. But something weird happens. With phoenixminer I get a lot of flotation on hashrates... se pic:

with claymore hasrate is very linear and stable...  Huh

So well my suggestion would be to revert back to claymore and forget about the whole phoenix miner thing until a new version comes out and works better.  See if your shares/payouts make sense, sometimes graphs can be stupid.
578  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: March 07, 2018, 03:24:36 AM
lol id like to see algo specific/enhanced GPUs...that would be weird.  I dont think its a good idea for nvidia or amd to concentrate on mining.  Keep making great gaming cards, that miners love to buy, and voila.  Or if I was an executive, I would release the new version of the GPUs, in limited quantities to stores for gamers, but keep making the old series for the miners, so win win.  just make sure the price / hashrate comes out the same.

Although that infographic is missing/wrong on a few items, its freakin awesome in any case and we need more comparative analysis to incite people to use and invest in deeponion.  when airdrop ends we can start to build on that.
580  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: March 07, 2018, 03:12:25 AM
If you think the business world is just gonna sit and watch us make ROI >1 year and not jump in, you are in for a wakeup call.

I think thats wrong.  History repeats itself.  People never fucking learn.  There are many plausible scenarios where mining revenue is lower than operating costs in a mine, where only the home miner can make a profit.  The home miner is the most efficient miner - he has no other costs than the added electricity bill.  no rent, employees, costs, anything.  Heck he even saves money by not heating his house in winter.  Thus he can mine at a loss in winter, and still come out on top.

If you think the business world wont panic and go bankrupt when profits suddenly disappear (lets see...drop ETH 2/3rds, and drop btc by 1/2 and what do you have ?), then everyone investing is in for a huge wakeup call.  I view 8-10 months ROI standard for a GPU alone.  If its higher, and the gpu price is low...then buy them.  ROI changes fast, and ordering and installing gpus isnt.
