2061  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: newbie want help on: March 08, 2014, 04:24:59 PM
Spending a year here is not a solution.. I will get my payment of 1.5k$ .. But i tought that if i get money quick i can profit from the opportunity before its late.
It's still the same problem here, that's what everyone says. You'll be lucky if anyone wants to lend you this, but chances are high nobody will, unfortunately. There's no trust when it comes to lending money online to anonymous people.
2062  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Has anyone played at everydice.com on: March 08, 2014, 04:19:48 PM
I think I tried this site before. I think I tried using the freeroll and have successfully withdraw.
Hm, that seems like good news. However, most of these sites actually work properly for the first couple weeks - months to gain people's trust. It's no guarantee that they haven't actually just ran off.
2063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you were satoshi... what would your "return from the void" post be? on: March 08, 2014, 04:16:08 PM
After the Mt. Gox fiasco and various other problems in the Bitcoin world I would expect Satoshi to return and say, "Why did I ever create this!?"  He knows How God felt when looked down at his creation and lamented what men were doing on the earth.

Psch, if god created the humans, why would he have created them able to do something he does not approve of? And why wouldn't he have the power to destroy his creation?
Your logic is flawed, and you should feel bad.
2064  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Satoshi looks so Cute on: March 08, 2014, 04:14:37 PM
is it real one?
wow they've found satoshi nakamoto  Shocked
They found a Satoshi Nakamoto, but most likely the wrong one Wink

I've just been thinking but its like we found Osama Bin Laden all over again
It's not the real one

Interestingly enough, Osama Bin Laden is still alive. SEAL commandos did not kill him, but captured alive.
….
Sources..?
You can't just type out something like this as a conspiracy theory when the general
belief is that he's dead. Provide us with some convincing proof.
2065  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: newbie want help on: March 08, 2014, 04:11:17 PM
This is a problem, people won't lend you anything with that account, unless perhaps you're able to meet IRL.
The only suggestion I could give is keep posting, gain trust rating, spend a year on this forum and try again, lol.
Another solution I suppose is to lend 0.8 btc worth in USD ( or whatever currency you're using ) from a friend,
buy the BTC you want and pay it back. If you can't do that I don't see any reason to trust you.
2066  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Facts: Is Dorian the real Satoshi or Not? on: March 08, 2014, 04:09:10 PM
Will the Real Satoshi Please Stand Up?
He should not. The post from the P2P account is enough.
I agree. It kind of confirms that he's still here, but at the same time keeps his identity a mystery. It should stay that way in my opinion, and people should just leave it at that. There's no point hassling innocent people like Dorian and whatever just cause you have a theory it's a person whose real identity you'll never be able to find out.
2067  Economy / Services / Re: NEW! bitcoin-scratchticket.com | Earn up to 0.1 BTC / Month | Up-front payment on: March 08, 2014, 04:06:21 PM
How much should a member hope to get if he posts 50 times a week?
We are trying to design a program that works well for folks that post 50 times per week as well as only 3 or 4 times per week. Stay tuned and I will answer this question before the weekend is over.
Exciting. I think that system would surely make you able to get a lot of more people to use your signature, but aren't you at the same time afraid that you won't get enough traffic to your website with these campaigns for it to be worth paying people with the advertisement? Less posts less banners, less people clicking, seeing your name etc.

With that said, I think a lot of the reason people are using forum advertising campaigns is to show the rest of the community that they pay their workers, and by doing so building a good reputation with the community that's supposed to visit your website. I think for example Primedice has earned more from the signature campaign itself rather than the banners on the website, because everyone knows that Stunna is a legitimate person, with good trust and a good reputation.

Tl;dr, This might work very well for you, at least I hope so. Smiley
2068  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to call 0.001 BTC? (5 BTC Bounty) on: March 08, 2014, 04:03:23 PM
I suppose.
But still, had we had those words chosen by members of an online forum from the start of bitcoins, we wouldn't have had anything to say against it today to be honest, our brains would've adapted to that just like we do to the decimals. But changing it now? No thanks.

To be honest, I think if Bitcoin had used arbitrary words I probably would have walked away without digging deeper - "the rest of the (finance) world copes just fine with thousands and 0.001, why should I have to learn some hacker jargon in order to use Bitcoin?" (Obviously some learning is necessary, but we should aim to reduce it to what's necessary, not what's cute or what we think is easy to understand).
I suppose you're right, it's not exactly inviting if arbitrary words were used. When I think
about it I come to the same conclusion as you did, I probably would've just walked away
as well. Good point, +1.
2069  Other / Meta / Re: The cancer that is Ponzi on: March 08, 2014, 04:01:21 PM
Gambles have provably fair rules.

Ponzis are scams in which, by design, the author can pull the plug whenever he sees fit.

In the best interest of young people and/or newcomers who might not understand this I would add a new subforum called "HYIP/Ponzi/scams", or directly "Scams".
On the other hand you can never guarantee 100% of the gambling
sites out there are provably fair by any means, not even 10% of
them. Besides they can also refuse withdrawals  whenever they see fit.

Even if they could make all their transactions transparent to confirm overall rates of return, and even if they allow all withdrawals, winnings could unfairly diverted to shill accounts they control. Say they have a 99.5% EV and can "prove" that they do on the block chain. That's great! But there's no way for a gambler to know that "real" users don't actually have a 90% EV while shill accounts cart away the extra profits. The only way to tell is to play over a long enough period of time that your own low rates of return diverge with statistical significance from the advertise EV. For a game with large variance, proving such a scam would be costly.

This is a problem in real casinos, but it's much more pronounced with Bitcoin where all you need to make another shill account is a couple of prime numbers.

So I don't really know what Rampion means by "provably fair rules." If he means rules that are understood by all players in advance, things like PonziCoin seem to fit the bill. If he means rules that are provably enforced by the operator fairly against players--there seem to be FAR fewer such services than there are gambling sites.
Basically most people see a sign on a website that says "This is provably fair" with some explanation to it that 99% of the users don't have the knowledge about the subject to be able to tell if it's actually true or just complete rubbish. In the end there's no guarantee, and therefore it's called gambling.
If someone told you to throw 100 dollars in the ocean, and that there was a 50% chance he'd give you 150 dollars for doing so, it's a gamble. You risk your money in exchange for a % chance of getting it back with a profit. Is it a tax on stupid people? Perhaps, but it's
a profit-risk calculation everyone has to do on their own. You can't just blindly trust websites that claim they're "provably fair".
2070  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos is taking illegal ads from a ponzi scheme - MakeBtc.org on: March 08, 2014, 03:58:12 PM
TL;DR:
Mainstream press already bashes Bitcoin, so let's make sure the bashing's justified -- give them real facts!
And let's make sure it's something really pathetic and embarrassing, like
"We're not greedy idiots, we built a closed economy!  We sell Ponzi schemes.  To each other!"

Wow, how much money did you lose to a ponzi mate? You're in denial about your own responsibility.
There are people buying drugs with US dollars as well as there are people buying drugs with BTC, the difference is that mainstream media always jumps to the conclusion that things they don't understand are dangerous. Illegal or not, I'm 100% sure ponzi schemes exists with 'real currency' investments, even where they are in fact illegal. Does that say USD are dangerous and are given a bad reputation? No.
2071  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos is taking illegal ads from a ponzi scheme - MakeBtc.org on: March 08, 2014, 03:55:09 PM
So with this on the table, I've got a question:
If a person were to create a piece of malware that does a drive-by install by clicking on a link, would they be able to advertise that link so long as they put in the disclaimer "Clicking on this link gives you malware"? If not, why not?

I absolutely think they would have every right to advertise it with a disclaimer.

While I appreciate your opinion, I'm actually looking for answers from someone who has a deeper understanding of how advertisements are chosen (e.g. moderators).

Without one? No way. But if you're stupid enough to click it, it's your fault.
They're not the ones giving you the virus, your stupidity is.

Technically only partially true. Their assistance promoting the malware may constitute aiding and abetting in known criminal activity.
Aha, I read your question a bit wrong, I thought you wanted public opinions on if it was morally right to have that as an advertisement, rather than an actual question to the people in charge if they would allow it. My bad.
2072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am not Dorian Nakamoto. on: March 08, 2014, 03:53:17 PM
Strange, I think it does.
It does? Someone creates a fake satoshi account to post that he/she is not Dorian Nakamoto.
How is this educational?
Well, at least I learned that there was a real Satoshi account on this forum, and was given the opportunity to read some of his previous posts.
I found it quite interesting, and perhaps a bit educational.
However you're right, OP has not contributed to anything and this is information I could've come across somewhere else.
2073  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi ruined a poor man's life on: March 08, 2014, 03:52:08 PM
There are numerous people named Satoshi Nakamoto.

If you're smart, name at least one..

Ok.. Satoshi Nakamoto
I just died Grin  Grin Grin
What neat humor, what neat humor.
Op deserved it though, hopefully he's
ashamed of this whole post now.

http://www.marketplace.org/topics/economy/are-bananas-doomed

The bananapocalypse is upon us

this may be more serious than gox and dorian combined...
Haha, I love this article. It's trying to make a serious point and at the same time the
title is "Bananas are doomed". An absolutely lovely mix between news reporting and
humor, I suppose.
I doubt our bananas are in danger though, probably just the media working us up, as usual.
2075  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to call 0.001 BTC? (5 BTC Bounty) on: March 08, 2014, 03:49:03 PM
Our brains adapt.

After paying attention to all the decimal digits for all the relevant amounts for a few weeks, I became so used to mentally parse eight digits in the blink of an eye.

We can simply call 0.001 BTC, 0.001 BTC:)
This.
I found it really hard when I was new here to get a grip of what was what, I had to google which decimal was which etc.
Couple of weeks later ( now ) I don't have to think twice. The human brain is quite good, isn't it. :>

Well, it's good with simple patterns - like 1, 0.1, 0.01, 0.001 etc. I suspect it'd be harder if the pattern was something like...
  • Arbitrary word chosen by members of an online forum #1
  • Arbitrary word chosen by members of an online forum #2
  • Arbitrary word chosen by members of an online forum #3
  • ...etc... Wink
I suppose.
But still, had we had those words chosen by members of an online forum from the start of bitcoins, we wouldn't have had anything to say against it today to be honest, our brains would've adapted to that just like we do to the decimals. But changing it now? No thanks.

No they are not.
There is 0 of me in the US, and that's what I originally though as well.

They're not suspicious per say, but they're not a 100% accurate when it comes to unusual names like Satoshi. However they're fully accurate if you search for common names.
2078  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Has anyone played at everydice.com on: March 08, 2014, 02:28:51 PM
I haven't tried it, and I don't know about the legitimacy of the site.
But one thing I do know is that 99% of all the sites that "get hacked" or experience "an attack", are really the owner shutting it down and running off with all the money they possibly can. It's the standard way to scam people with those sites.
2079  Economy / Goods / Re: buy beef with bitcoins on: March 08, 2014, 02:26:15 PM
To the OP: You're starting to seem a lot more trustworthy now that you updated with some more information, and that's the biggest step when you're trying to start a business. Best of luck with your beef. Smiley
2080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am not Dorian Nakamoto. on: March 08, 2014, 02:25:10 PM
This was actually a bad move. The staff should have removed this post and banned the account.
Why is this? It's nice for us to see what he did previously. He hasn't been active for 4 years anyways.
