I had a bunch of Tahiti (7950/7970/280x) GPUs throughout the years that all needed to be reballed. Basically if you somehow could manage to get Windows to boot, it would mine until the GPU got cold again. But eventually with enough heat cycles it would stop working all together.
Had a hot air station already so just needed the stensil and solder balls. Bought all that stuff on Alibaba for $10. The issue was removing the old GPU chip for PCB. I kept heating and heating and heating it up and couldn't get it to move. Couldn't go higher in temp because it would burn something. Eventually gave up. Basically you can easily remove something like an iPhone chip because the area is small. However for a large GPU chip you need a special workstation like they used to repair Xbox's back in the day.
Basically not worth the hassle to fix a GPU worth maybe $100.

Heating the card = killing the card with your own hands.

Guys since all this while I've been trying to figure out how good rtx3090 is for mining but what worries me is the memory temp and yet many people are using 3090 all this while, the question is if 3090 is bad alreday for mining many would have talked about dead RTX3090

Time will show. It doesn't make sense, 3090 have been around a some time now if this card is designed wrongly they will be many dead 3090 already, does Radeon VII rings a bell? We all know it's a bad design from AMD and it doesn't take long before we start seeing dead VII GPUs It designed for gaming and other stuff where memory temps are not going so high. I didn't realise you don't need to flash mining raven. That's handy to know.
Batsonxl. Usually you'd use a heat gun to reflow. Basically if there are any cracked solder joints, heating them to 300c will melt the solder and create a connection again. However, the reason I used a hair dryer is because they run about 140c and I wanted to check if the GPU itself responded to heating on a low heat as the silicon has a lower melting point than lead free solder. If it didn't do anything I could then try and heat gun over it and see if it fixes any solder issues. Sadly if it works again with lower heating temps over the GPU then 9/10 times it needs to be sold off for spares. That said if you always use the same cards then they are useful to salvage parts from.
People please STOP! stop heating gpus it will do things worse you killing your gpu. Dont heat card with hair dryer or heat gun. If you know how to do reball do it if you dont know then take it to master who knows. |

micron gddr6x datasheets says operating temp less than or equal 95c
there are other micron gddr6x info that writes as 95c/105c
stress max rating is 125c with a note: Exposure to absolute maximum rating conditions for extended periods may ad-versely affect reliability.
so keeping it below 95c seems to be the logical thing to do. a situational heat spike can push it to well above 100c, so know your environment very well.
Bravo very good answer. 95 must be your max reading. it is better keep it less 90. If you want use it longer you must keep temps down. it will work at 100 or 110C also but how long? Im sure not very long time. |

Time will show. yep which is why mine are at 285 watts not 315 and it is why my ram clocks are under the 2100 max. I do mine at 1850 Lots of people don't understand the math of mining. Mining is not a sprint it is back to back to back marathons. If my cards break it is the surest way to lose out. At the moment I have 60-70 cards amd 5000 series amd 6000 series nivida 3000 series I have had 3 issues on the 60-70 cards 1 5700 power color 1 5500 gigabyte they were in the same 2 card rig in an office they simply died I suspect a mobo issue. I got rma service on the 2 of them 1 msi 5600 mech card a dead fan. These cards have been purchased since April 2020 Most in fall of 2020 the nvida 3000 in winter 2020/2021 No card is clocked stupidly. a stupid clock would be clocking my 3090 cards at 320 watts and 2100 ram setting fans to 90% I have been using gpus since 2012 I rather never push them as they last longer. You know what you doing but most newbies they have no idea what they doing so im guessing there will be a lot 3080-3090 gpus in front of us. i know one, recently called me and asked why my rtx 3080 gettin 80mhs on start it gets 95. I asked whats memory temps he is telling me gpu temp. 5min i explained where is memory temps are and guess what he was running gpu under 110C for whole week just brand new card. |

Usually with these low to mid cap coins the difficulty can change drastically for many reasons. There is very little profit to begin with so if someone has a large farm of old GPUs and there is a coin that is 10% more profitable, they will switch over all their rigs to that coin.
And I am pretty sure these days there are pools or software out there like Nicehash that automatically switches to the most profitable coin. I remember back in the 2013-2014 days there was no such thing, you had to manually use the difficulty and price of the coin to determine which is more profitable. If you managed to do this extra work every day you could of net slightly more income by switching to a completely different coin. These days its all done automatically.

My question is it real performance of 6000 series cards or what you think will be upgrade for them? i mean 6700=60mhs 6800= 70-75mhs AMD new cards are already famous for not being the card for miners. You should do more research next time you buy a new GPU. I suggest you follow https://twitter.com/aschilling or Anandtech. Sometime they cover GPU mining performance, instead of other media such as HWU or Gamer Nexus who focus more on gaming or professional workload. Thanks for sharing. You're making the mistake of equating mining performance to gaming performance. Ethereum mining is memory intensive whereas most games are gpu intensive. Techpowerup doesn't review cards based on mining, but based on gaming and other gpu intensive task that aren't mining related. Yes i agree eth likes memory speed but not such a difference i thought it would be less like 5mhs max 10mhs not 20mhs. 6700 performing like 5600 which is very low.
