i think both lending and becoming an escrow are good options but for both of them you will need some trust buildup. besides i fell like forum has enough of both of them.
you can sell goods on the forum though. if you can i think selling stuff is a good business and it will build up your trust too.
Lending doesn't need trust. For collateralised loans, escrow will be used and it can be done. Escrow needs significant trust and many people already offers 0% fee escrow already. It isn't a good way to earn.
But lending can be very profitable, but be careful.... there is a lot of
scammers here
Only when a member or below offer collateral, then you can accept the loan. Check for trust rating and posting history. If the person is an addicted gambler, common sense will tell you not to lend him.

I think nothing wrong even a newbie member can get loan if they have collateral...with the term that collateral must have worth 110% of the value of loan

But there are so many loaners around and most likely the loan requests will be filled before you can even see them. And there are some people that even offer interest free loans to people.

And you can be scammed even with collateral, the other part can reset the account's password or be about to receive red trust, or have other problems that will make them useless

You would make sure that the escrow actually changed all account details that could be used to reclaim the account that was given as collateral. Its something i have to be very cautious too, as an escrow. I never want to miss a potential way a seller could use to reclaim an account.

What can be done if the user put a secret question in his account? Do you verify it too?

Secret question can be changed or removed if you know the password of that account which obviously escrow or lender knows. So it is not at all a problem.
1143  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-06-19] Bank of Indonesia Discourages Use of Bitcoin on: June 20, 2015, 02:08:07 PM
A ban will probably be the next step if they realize that a discourage will not work in any way.

Good thing they discouraged and not banned it from usage Grin

I don't think they discourage the use of Bitcoin to decrease amount of users. It probably was a fair warning.
1144  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin wallet lifetime ? on: June 20, 2015, 01:05:31 PM
people who use online storage as cold wallet are utterly stupid. don't know why any person would still do so after plenty of hacks.

Using online storage as cold storage? I am hearing this for first time. Try to make your sig spam better by thinking before posting or you will be banned.
1145  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: how can i check the Integrity and Authenticity of downloaded wallet install file on: June 20, 2015, 01:01:08 PM
Verifying signature will do. Sources are signed by ThomasV and executables are signed by Animazing.

Signature for Electrum-2.3.2.tar.gaz is https://download.electrum.org/Electrum-2.3.2.tar.gz.asc.
ThomasV's PGP key can be found here -- https://bitcoin-otc.com/viewgpg.php?nick=ThomasV.

If you have installed GPG, run gpg --verify Electrum-2.3.2.tar.gz.asc Electrum-2.3.2.tar.gz. If the verification is positive, you downloaded the right file. Else, you downloaded a file which is not from official site or there is some problem with Electrum developers' side which is unlikely.

You can get signatures for other executables and sources from https://electrum.org/#download.

Use these and compare.

Personally, I recommend you to mine with this only for studying how it works and then buy an ASIC if conditions for mining are favourable.

I saw there are 10 sent transactions from Romano1's address to Superstar777's address , if Romano1 isn't his alt , I think they know each other.
romano1's address 1PTnadLBRa3ivuMMDeRQoBms1wTAz3zhyF
supperstar777's addresses
16ne9yU3Q5KArpu97Mc9kTzPgwxuM1eLUs & 1yfMCD6XE4tEvG8LSgrM9XfDxjoXjiFgG , both addresses signed here
Superstar777 posted this address 1yfMCD6XE4tEvG8LSgrM9XfDxjoXjiFgG here
edit :
Check the last transaction from this address https://blockchain.info/address/16ne9yU3Q5KArpu97Mc9kTzPgwxuM1eLUs , the last transaction go to directbet, and see the total points earned.

Romano1 was an alt of Superstar777.
www.directbet.eu/BetStatus.cshtml?betid=1KjREuV8yzJtTCLCL2ayA5pVkn14yBnJf5
Because the result is lost, I can't see a payout address, then I asked BTCBLOGGER to send a small amount to that bet ID , AFAIK, when betting is suspended and we keep funding, bet will be rejected and after 1 confirmation directbet will refund it to a payout address. It works...

Message : Bet was rejected because the event is no longer available for betting. Bet was refunded. Refund Transaction ID #
7bc9d2fc635bdd2437552763030754982ff74a6e2f5b60cff64062b2faf3aa30

and Masnad was another alt of Romano1/superstar777

Romano1 is alt of superSTAR777.

Why did you use an address created by someone else and that too by an anonymous person? Lesson learned.

can the mods/admins recover the posts to whatever they were before they were edited? if so this wouldnt be as effective in the case of a through examination, if not, thats an incredibly through way to take ownership of an account.

My recollection from some thread in Meta a while back is that Theymos can indeed recover posts that were deleted, but cannot recover PMs that have been deleted. I may be remembering wrong. But I'm pretty sure.

Both posts and PMs are recoverable.

1151  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do I become an escrow? on: June 20, 2015, 09:36:13 AM
-snip-
secondly use PGP
 -snip-

Using PGP is not mandatory. You can also use a Bitcoin address for signing.

-snip-
and then trust is coming to you step by step.

You first need to be trusted to act as escrow. Not the other way around.
1152  Other / Meta / Re: Politics on: June 20, 2015, 09:30:47 AM
I don't appreciate when more than 1 members keeps saying that my price is too high repeatedly on the same post but some members too seem interested in buying the product/account. Quickseller's post dint seem off topic as he showed interest in buying the account but if he keeps saying the same thing on other threads, it would be considered only spam.
He might be looking for better buying options, and so what's the harm in saying the same thing on different threads? After all I don't think his signature pays for them.

Posting "price is too high" in many threads is trying to increase post count/activity and is certainly spam. FYI one does not need to wear any signature for posts to become spam.
1153  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Cost of Bitcointalk Accounts. on: June 20, 2015, 09:24:38 AM
so does it basically come down to who can provide a signed message from an address posted further back in time? in the case of the recently posted address for instance.

it is a proof of ownership, if a seller can prove that he own the account, then the buyer is safe for the possible retrieval attempt

Consider this hypothetical: An account is dormant for a few months. It is hacked, the hacker posts an address, and then sells it a couple months later. The account is then recovered by the original owner, who can sign a message from a post made a year ago.

but what if the hacker, deleting posts containing addresses many years ago, and then he made a new post adress and as if it was indeed her account?

Mind=blown. Well not really, but sort of. This never even occurred to me. I guess the ideal is to have a signed message from an address posted really far back.... a year or more, depending on he account rank. That would make this pretty unlikely.

can the mods/admins recover the posts to whatever they were before they were edited? if so this wouldnt be as effective in the case of a through examination, if not, thats an incredibly through way to take ownership of an account.

Yes, theymos can.
1154  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Address / Wallet Watcher - Blockonomics on: June 20, 2015, 09:23:52 AM
This looks absolutely great!  Good for you guys.  My only suggestion is to add the option of a BIP32 HD wallet [via master public key] (for us electrum users who want to watch our wallets easily online).  Other than that, it looks absolutely great!

Thanks for the suggestion ! My understanding of BIP32 wallets is not very good. Just to clarify, so the user will enter his MPK and say suppose an index 50 and the system will generate all his 50 public addresses and monitor them, right ?

See https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0032.mediawiki. You will generate public keys using xpub key(extended public key). Eg:- xpub6CUGRUonZSQ4TWtTMmzXdrXDtypWKiKrhko4egpiMZbpiaQL2jkwSB1icqYh2cfDfVxdx4df189 oLKnC5fSwqPfgyP3hooxujYzAu3fDVmz

Electrum uses m/0/<n> for receiving addresses and  m/1/<n> for change addresses. (Source: http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/36955/what-bip32-derivation-path-does-electrum-use)
1155  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: about cloudmining.website on: June 20, 2015, 08:35:23 AM
Soon, ASAP are actually words scammers use for buying time. Bitcoiners have learnt it over time from Hashie, AM hash etc. Seems you have the info when Bit-X is winding up. No ?

Remember, ASAP is for me. It is not meant for all.

No. I don't have any info about their winding up(if they are).

FriedCat was not reputable. He was backed by people who enjoy abusing DefaultTrust's green blessing. I pointed out that many times (Ref: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=888960.0)

Lying or joking? Undecided

Today Bit-X is backed by almost same range of people (including you).

Can you please explain what do you mean by "backed up"?

You just showed what a grand hypocrite you are. You have no idea how much Bit-X is selling, but you are still backing Bit-X because BitFury said 1 Phs is guaranteed. You are intentionally overlooking the fact that with this extravagant ads across the boards,

I am not supporting BIT-X, instead, I think it is legit.

Bit-X is inadvertently overselling 1 Phs.

Prove it.

You...
P.S. I am talking to Marco via IM and he is watching these threads.

So talking means being friend? Then we all are friends here. Roll Eyes

I promote what honors my time the best on this forum directly and through referral.

Thought so.

Till date CMW-Pesobang combo has worked the best. But, you are acting blind because you are knowingly promoting a scam and trying to buy time for it.

I have no problem with Pesobang, only with CMW and other ponzis.

I am least concerned about that.

Just said as you requested not to post from an alt.

CMW meet my criteria...

1. They never said something will be shown/proven soon/ASAP.

I have not followed closely but I think what you said is true.

They showed what they can show from day 1

But they didn't show what they need to show.

and explained why they can not show the rest from day 1. I like absolutely no-nonsense business pitch.

So CMW's excuses are not nonsense? Hmm... Their excuses for not showing any details about data centres or mining are BS.

2. They never gave out free hash power to attract cheap traffic. Free Hash power =  No Hash power. They offered cheap hash power.

This is the worst criteria I have ever heard of. No offence. You do know ponzis go for this all time?

3. Most importantly, if they were Ponzi, they could not sustain seven months with so little advertisement.

It was not so little because investors advertised in this forum and other websites and besides, little advertisement cost from their side means long durability for their ponzi.

Are you trying to tell me that if a site has been paying out for some months, they can't be ponzi? Undecided Don't forget PBMining.

Interestingly, you missed the fact that I promote other Cloud Minings as well in various threads, who are actually CMW's competitor, just because I wear a certain signature.

Sorry if I have missed anything but interestingly, almost all of them are ponzis.

Welcome! Smiley
1156  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NOOB: Looking for tutorial for Raspberry Pi on: June 20, 2015, 08:03:13 AM
when I run it as just

./configure

I get the following:

configure: error: Found Berkeley DB other than 4.8, required for portable wallets (--with-incompatible-bdb to ignore or --disable-wallet to disable wallet functionality)
 -snip-

The error is showing because you have a different version of Berkeley DB. For Bitcoin core, BDB 4.8 is recommended. You can avoid that error by installing BDB 4.8(recommended) or by running ./configure --with-incompatible-bdb. Latter will break compatibility with pre-built binaries.

http://bit-post.com/featured/running-bitcoincore-0-10-on-a-raspberry-pi-2-4419 will be helpful for you.

BTW, you do have enough space to store blockchain, right? If not, try using lightweight clients such as Multibit HD and Electrum.
1157  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I got scammed by btcrow.com - please HELP on: June 20, 2015, 07:40:49 AM
That is because you have not realized that bitcoin is not finished in terms of being a payment processor (still a prototype).

Bitcoin is not a payment processor.

Bitcoin is an asset ledger, not a currency.

Bitcoin is an irreversible currency. Being irreversible does not mean it is not a currency. I suggest you to read https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

Anyways... I am really happy you got your funds. I have read many scam stories over the years and in most cases the scammer walks away in triumph. Great to see a happy end Smiley

1160  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Lost both seed and my google authenticator to my electrum wallet:( on: June 19, 2015, 04:30:21 PM
I had the google authenticator on my phone, but me or my son by fault deleted the app on my phone and when I reinstalled the app it was not linked
to my wallet anymore... In hindsight, I should never have linked the authenticator to my wallet, but that is too late now.

but the google auth is bound to your account. use google, you can even print paper codes - if you got access to your google account.

edit: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1187538?hl=en

Paper codes only work for specific services, they will not work with Electrum / TrustedCoin 2fa.

If you've lost both your 2fa app (and have no backup of it) and your seed, you very likely out of luck, sorry...  Cry

but shouldn't you be able to just download the 2fa app under your google account? always thought that would be the backup function...

No there's no backup option, that's why people use authy these days.

That's why, it is highly recommend to store the secret key safely. Authy is good but as it backups to cloud, I don't like it much.
