where is hong kong
It's not there?  I just copied a country list, so if it's not there, just choose something close to it.  China, I guess.

When's the last time you did something for 11+ years and then stopped doing it?

I haven't thought much about it, but I'm gonna venture a guess that anything I've done for 11 + years, I'm still doing...

An example would be using my ID in order to buy alcohol and tobacco.

Another would be using NNTP.

I agree that life changes as you age; however, let me ask when's the last time you did something that's not age specific for 11+ years and then stopped doing it?

As I mentioned, I practically lived on the usenet for a decade.  I could hardly imagine life without it at one point.  But my utilization tapered off and I don't think I've subscribed to any nntp feed for at least several years.  alt.politics.misc was my thing back in the day as I recall.

Decade != 11 Years

Yeh there was no option for those clearly in it for the long haul.

When do you plan on moving on from Bitcoin?

Did I misunderstand this one or is it a silly question?
I meant when are you leaving.  Changing for clarification.

When do you plan on leaving the internet?
When I die.
1626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Survey on: August 30, 2012, 11:10:47 PM
So I didn't misunderstand, it's just a silly question.
Why?  I don't think you get why I asked that question.  It was so that I can see at which point most people leave.  Like, if people leave at collage or something.

1629  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin Community Airplane/Flying Club on: August 30, 2012, 10:45:37 PM
Hi there,

I thought I would test the waters out. No, not the waters everybody got thrown overboard in. Let me start over. I thought I would test the skies out.

The goal of this project is to form community access to airplanes very similar to what you see with community access vehicles. The internal structure will be developed while maintaining the most social conscious actions. Obviously in aviation there are few who focus on this. Hopefully this can become a successfully funded business that focuses on member, investor, and public satisfaction. The point here is to build an economy where nobody is hungry, bitcoin needs something like this right about now

Investing should allow us all to see whats going on. This way you can fly in your investment. Or if you don't have the means to make that happen, you will know a member is out making your investment profitable. The financial bottom line doesn't always need to be the focus when we are all having fun and benefiting.

This should be a great opportunity to see the ability of loans goon towards a real community asset. Investing will allow everybody to enjoy a fine luxury, while receiving a good return on investment. If a fraction of the money that has gone into ponzi's went towards this project, we would be able to see the  first airline that accepts bitcoins!

Let's start a flying club where you can reserve your flight just like you would a car. While this will ideally be sponsored via bitcoin, I will be seeking members in the aviation community as well. Since this is based on the West Coast of the USA, most participants will be there. BUT, this does not mean it's not for you. ANY "EMPTY LEG" TRIP WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ANY MEMBER. This means if I flew to New York, and was staying for a month and the plane needs to return to LA, it is available first come first serve.

There will be no buying a seat on a flight as of now. There will be no flight attendants. Most flights will be originating at less busy airport to minimize headache of long security lines, etc etc etc. Let me put it to you this way. This can be the Zipcar of the sky.

I would like to highlight that it is nearly a $1,250,000 and lengthy process for an airplane of magnitude and charter service to start. Until we see serious traction on this project this will be a FLYING CLUB. As a MEMBER you will be entitled to lend or fly. This access will be shared with other members. First come, first serve scheduling. All incurred flight expenses come out of YOUR wallet. Other lenders/members will not be paying for your flying time just because you are in the club. That being said they will "own" part of the plane and your use will be growing their investment. As mentioned before "empty leg" trips will be available when available.

Let me say this. While many of you will not be interested in having access to an airplane that will fly you and 6 of your friends across the country, there are many who are interested. This will be a very interesting experience to see if the worlds of BTC can partner with the group of people who would probably never use BTC, aviators. As in while members/pilots join the club to fly an airplane owned by the BTC community. I'll be honest this could be one of the first times both parties have never worked together and will be EXCITED the other is behind the idea.

Let this idea marinate. Think of the potential. Let's take bitcoin to the skies!

Until there is serious interest I will remain Rube7x. Once this is established proof will be sent to the mods, and obviously if you are flying OUR airplane through the club headquarters you will see my face every day. Whether you want to or not

Lets take off,
Rube7x

interested, I don't have my license yet but I am planning to get a full through the military, any idea on what fixed wing/ rotary wing you were looking at for a first buy?

It really depends on what the members want. Something with a 275kts+ cruise speed, pressurization, less than $750-1500 per hour operating costs and 6 passenger seats. Could be Piper Meridian, Socata TBM, or small jet.
Would this be a fractional ownership sort-of thing?

If this works, that would be AMAZING.  Also, if anybody in the community is a CFI, they could offer lessons.  My father's a CFI (for fun), but he's not too interested in Bitcoin.  Smiley

As I said, I would definitely do lessons with this if it works.

Good luck!

1632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Survey on: August 30, 2012, 08:15:01 PM
Hello Bitcoiners,
I am curious as to who's using Bitcoin, and what they're using it for.

If you would be kind enough as to fill out this survey, please do so.

If I get enough responses (enough so that it makes real data, not a few people), I'll post the results on here.

Do not do this survey if you don't want me to post the results publicly.

EDIT: If anyone wants more questions, do tell.

EDIT EDIT: I added two changes after 30 responses were made:
1: Added option for "Never" on when will you leave.
2: What is your longest commitment for Bitcoin at the moment?

1634  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Interesting Tidbit on Pirate - Charging rates on large BTC transfers? on: August 27, 2012, 11:55:47 PM
I so found this tidbit about Pirate on r/bitcoin:

[–]px403 4 points 1 day ago
I used to buy coins from him in blocks of 100 and 500, and I was one of his smaller customers. He has an extremely good reputation for being able to move a ton of coins very quickly. I never invested in his savings and trust though. From my observations, his business would be greatly helped by the higher liquidity granted by large numbers of investors, and at the premiums he charges for large volumes of bitcoins transferred quickly, he could easily pay back 7%, at least for short periods of time.
The 7% was his highest rates too, and he dropped them when he had more investors than he needed. When more investors dropped out than expected, he likely got frustrated and decided to go back to handling the liquidity himself.
That said, it will be very interesting to see of he can pull off a clean dismount without going broke himself, but I do think that it's very possible. Will be fun to watch :-)

I could care less about the speculation in the bottom part, but the discussion of his possible business model did. Could he be offering to buy/sell large amounts of bitcoins quickly for fees? I could see this as being somewhat valuable, but I don't really have much knowledge on  BTC exchanges. If he could offer a way around the huge price spikes/declines when someone buys/sell a large amount of coins, i could see it being a source of income.

Could anyone offer some info/speculation on this? Try to refrain from talking about ponzis and focus on the actual value created by this service and the exchange risks.

This is one theory going around. It would be worth a fee to route around ID requirements on Mt Gox et al.

How illegal would this be?  I mean, if he's handling lots of coins, wouldn't he be subject to AML?  For all we know, he could be laundering money for terrorists!

My aim is to see what they have on Bitcoin.  Curiosity, mainly.  Seems interesting.

Sorry, missed your post.  An FOIPA request (freedom of information act request) is a request under a law in the U.S. that forces government agencies to give any information that wouldn't put them at risk to anyone.

Sort-of a summed up version.
1638  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: FOPIA Request to the FBI Processing on: August 26, 2012, 06:00:56 PM
Which case are you requesting information on? Anything at all related to BITCOIN or a specific case?

"Description of Request: I would like to have records relating to the digital crypto-currency known as Bitcoin, and any other subjects relating to crypto-currencies.

Please search the FBI’s indices to the Central Records System for the information responsive to this request related to: Crypto-Currencies, and the crypto-currency Bitcoin."

That was from the request I sent them.  Crypto-currencies and Bitcoin.
