So is this recent dump a response to the Bithumb hack or is it just coincidence? 30 million USD worth of coins certainly is small compared to the whoppers that we have had in the past.

Are we really bringing up fears of the "steal the Segwit coins" attack? To implement the attack, successfully, someone would have to accomplish the following.

A) Modify his pre-segwit node software to accept and mine anyonecanspend transactions. Most of the older software now sees these as non-standard transactions and would not accept nor mine them.
B) Have over 50% of the mining hash so that your chain would be seen as the chain with most work by all the nodes that are running software that is pre-segwit.
C)All of the Segwit nodes are going to immediately orphan the attacker's blocks because they will clearly see that the block contains invalid transactions that do not follow the proper protocol for handling a Segwit transaction. The attacker will need to convince the community to hop on over to the attacker's chain. Good luck with that. Please keep in mind that accepting the attacker's chain over the current Segwit BTC chain will effectively render the vast majority of the exchanges as insolvent. Also, since the attacker's chain will offer no replay protection, it's going to be a PITA for most users, so both chains will have much difficulty surviving together.

there it is...perfect timing

I am lost.

Perhaps I am missing a variable, or the math is beyond me.

What exactly are you saying? That it's beneficial for an ICO to run in Wyoming so long as people buy in Wyoming only?

That would not be a good strategy because only a tiny amount of people are willing to travel hundreds to thousands of miles just to participate in an ICO.

Wyoming is only a two hour drive from where I am at. However, I do not think even I would be willing to make the journey just to buy ICO tokens. I think if someone required that I buy the tokens in Wyoming, I would just move on. I'm not certain how such an ICO token would ever have any liquidity in their market.

well now

So much for another leg down. Maybe I should add shutting the fuck up to my diet. It's gluten free. Smiley

Gluten free maybe but so high in sodium. Not sure I can recommend.

Unfortunately, many people investing in BTC and other crytocurrencies have had to rely on a diet of this, lately

I am afraid Ramen isn't gluten free or low in sodium.

The first mobile wallet made for Bitcoin Lightning Network (LN) was launched on April 4th ago that marks a milestone for this technology.
The Eclair wallet, released by ACINQ technology startup, and available only to Android users from the Google Play Store.
This device uses version 5.0 which is newer than its operating system, and now can send payment of Lightning.

That is great news. However, I have an Iphone. Embarrassed

Have a read of https://blog.lightning.engineering/announcement/2017/10/12/test-blitz.html. It explains the steps for the testnet. The mainnet version is not ready yet.

There is no need to sync the blockchain or run LND by yourself. The Lighting App handles all of that for you. Furthermore, it uses a BIP 158 (Neutrino) light client so there is no need to sync the entire blockchain at all.

I don't want to run on the testnet. I guess that I will just fiddle with ln and lncli until I can figure out a workaround to run a GUI.
1809  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Getting connected to the Bitcoin Lightning network on: June 15, 2018, 11:09:27 PM
Before embarking on trying to connect to the lightning network. I am a bit confused. Do I first need to run my Bitcoin daemon and let it sync; then install and run the lightning network daemon; then install either the Zap Gui or Lightning App gui? Or can I just install and run one of the Gui's. I have been googling for hours, and am quite confused.  Huh  I will take the three steps if necessary, but if I can eliminate one or more steps, it would be great. I don't want to embark on this before being certain that I am not making more work out of it than necessary.
1810  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin money back. Very useful function. on: June 15, 2018, 07:27:48 PM
Is it possible to do this via the Lightning network? You can have people open a channel with your crowdsourcing. Then if you want to do a mass refund, you just return the money to them in the channels they opened with you. You would probably need some kind of script to do this if you don't want to do it manually. I would think this would end up costing no fee to you, since it would be 0 hop transactions. (The funders would incur the fees of first opening the channel and then closing the channel.) I have not personally fiddled with the Lightning Network, yet; so I apologize if this suggestion is way out in left field.

When is the flipping going to occur?

It will only happen when and if more people economic power backs BCH, than BTC. Despite making good efforts for the past year, this is not even close to coming to fruition.
1812  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HASHNEST Discussion and Support Thread on: June 15, 2018, 05:36:07 PM
I lost all my btc?? Cost btc - 11 BTC  Hashrate GHs - 245677 , i purchased when was 0.00006 and now is 0.00001 , what can i do? Need to wait or is gone all my btc Sad

Unfortunately, I do not see much chance of you being able to recoup all of your 11 BTC. The price of Bitcoin seems to be trending down and the hashrate and bitcoin difficulty still seems to be trending upward. A couple of your options are to liquidate now and recover your 2.45 BTC, or you can hold and mine all the way to the bitter end. However, I suspect that you will not be able to mine more than 2.45 BTC before it becomes unprofitable. Once the fee exceeds 100% for 10 days, you will be able to redeem the 19 S9 ASICS, if you wish. But I doubt that the used ASICS, which will no longer be profitable, are going to be worth much by then for you to try and sell on E-bay. Also, if you do redeem the ASICS, you will be expected to pay for the shipping and the taxes. It may not be worth your while to redeem.

How much is mining earning prr day?
And it'll go back up when Bitcoins price dies. You realise that when you invest money in something your return is not 100% guaranteed, there's a slim chance you could lose everything but it's very unlikely.

The S9 hash on hashnest is no longer working as a hedge against the falling price of BTC. In the same time frame that BTC went from $8xxx USD to $6xxx USD, the price of S9 hashrate has gone down from ~ 6k sats to approximately 1k sats. The S9 is getting close to being made obsolete. Faster more efficient ASICS are already coming out by the end of the year, if not sooner.

Edit: I apologize that I am being such a Debbie Downer on this. But I made the mistake of holding on too long. I am looking at losing about 1.5 million sats on the S9 hash and about 20 LTC on the L3 hash. Although, if I calculated this based on USD value, I may have fared better. However, clearly it would have been better for me to just HODL the BTC and LTC in this case.
Since hashnest is clearly the best deal when it comes cloud mining, I would recommend to anybody that cloud mining is a bad idea. I believe the people that went into the Pacmic contracts managed to make some gains, although they were kind of small. I also believe that people that initially bought the S9 and L3 when they were new and then sold early also profited. However, at this stage of the game, it appears this is a losing proposition. I also feel strongly that Bitmain will be phasing Hashnest out. I don't see any new opportunities with Hashnest.
1813  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HASHNEST Discussion and Support Thread on: June 14, 2018, 10:46:22 PM
i moved out and open ticket, whats the point of having hash and no mining, and will there be S11, that would be nice.

I have the feeling that Bitmain is going to phase out the cloud mining. I have had that feeling ever since they paid out their last Pacmic contract a year ago. You will probably have to just buy the S11 outright and mine from home if you want to mine. Which is a real pain because many of those machines are quite loud and are not suitable for home.

Is this some weird European joke? I don't get it, by the way why is no one talking about the rise right now? Is this shit not exciting? Too drunk already to see we revesered most of today's dump?

Meh. What was more exciting was the show of strong support when the bears tried to dump this down below 6100. However, this recent little bump seems to show that the resistance at this level isn't very strong at all. Maybe it is a good sign that the bears are running low on ammo, at least for now..

The social engineers are about. This thing is gonna tumble. I can feel it in my bones now.

I swear that I have nothing to do with this bear market.  Angry You're not catching that feeling from me!

All this dump and doomsday talk just because another exchange gets hacked.
Sigh!

Go Bitcoin Go!

https://ethereumworldnews.com/cryptos-dump-as-korean-exchange-coinrail-gets-hacked/

I really don't think this exchange hack is much of a factor in the current dump. It's ranked 90th in the world and mainly trades some shit coin that I never heard of.
