1121  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What is lighting network? on: January 06, 2019, 01:35:13 PM
Currently the lightning network is in beta anyway, it is not intended to be used with money you don't want to lose.

Who in their right mind wants to lose any money, especially BTC, which has a limited supply? Also, are people really still losing money on the lightning network?  Cheesy I wouldn't consider a program that still has major issues causing people to lose money in the beta stage. Appears to still be in alpha stage to me.

@OP If you want to play around with the Lightning Network, I advise that you try it out on the testnet only. At least you won't lose anything of real value, except your time.

censorship is good...right?

All depends on the reasons why the posts are deleted...
But yea.
Create your own topic.

A person doesn't need "reasons" to delete a post on a self moderated topic. They could ask a Magic 8 ball or flip a coin if they wanted.

@MikeMike. Bring this up to Theymos. Not sure that he will bother, but he can nuke merits in extreme circumstances.
1125  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Please Help! Deleted my electrum wallet - what to do? on: January 06, 2019, 02:50:02 AM
Hi bones261!

thanks ...
But first i need to download it from https://electrum.org ... Correct?

What is the difference between seed and private key. You mean the 12 words that i got initally?

Thanks
CL

The seed is the 12 word phrase. Yes, you can download it from the official electrum site. A private key is usually a long (256 bit) string of characters that are used to generate the public key. The public key is then used to generate the BTC address. You also need the private key in order to "sign" a transaction. The seed phrase is used to generate private key/public key pairs in a deterministic way. You can use the seed phrase to recover your wallet and get access to your BTC.

1126  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Please Help! Deleted my electrum wallet - what to do? on: January 06, 2019, 02:18:19 AM
When you open the Electrum wallet, under "file," there should be an option called New/Restore. Select that option and go through the step by step menus. You will get the option to restore by seed or importing a private key.

So, I wasn't able to visit with my family for the holidays. We exchanged gifts, today. Look what my sister gave to me.

Should I eat them, or HODL?

HODL as a hedge. If Bitcoin were to fail those "coins" would probably never produced anymore and become a collection item. OTOH, if it succeesds the market will be flooded with them.

Looks a "perfect" hedge to me Smiley

Sounds like a plan to me. I will transfer them to "cold storage."  However, what methods should I be using to make my refrigerator more secure?

Woohoo, for the first time I see a merit source complaining about not enough sMerit Smiley Cool. Just read Jet Cash's thread about how many good post he is finding lately and I feel like the forum is going toward the right direction finally.
Maybe one day I can also apply for a Merit Source if needed Wink

Please do apply. The more the merrier.
1130  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 05, 2019, 04:26:09 PM

I don't know how old Roach is but if he thinks he can retire from silver few decades from now, not going to happen.

Precious metals like gold, iridium, silver, osmium, palladium, platinum, rhenium, rhodium, ruthenium, iron, cobalt, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, aluminium, and titanium are there in huge quantities. Maybe we find new undiscovered metals in the process. The prices on Earth will completly collapse when space mining starts.

Eventually Bitcoin will replace the gold standard.

The space mining argument is just not going to cut it. It costs billions of dollars ATM just to land a probe on an asteroid. It's even more expensive to attempt to return a small sample to Earth. We are a long way off to make such an operation profitable. The only way this starts to become feasible is if we first colonize the heavenly bodies. Then the mining would just supply the local population at first.
1131  Other / Meta / Re: What to do about Bump Bots on: January 05, 2019, 03:29:51 PM
The only way to deal with bumping bots is to use the report to moderator function. Many bots post insubstantial posts. (This is against the rules and can result in the post getting deleted. Multiple offenses could get the account a temporary ban.) More sophisticated bots post more substantial posts by engaging in a fake conversation. However, many times this conversation is reused and if the bot runner is having different accounts posting the same "conversation," the later conversations could result in the alt accounts getting permabanned for breaking the copy/paste rule. Unfortunately, bot runners learn from the posts that get banned and they will eventually program bumping bots that are more sophisticated.
1132  Economy / Exchanges / Re: I sent bchabc to btc on: January 05, 2019, 07:13:27 AM
binance stock market bchabc post did koineks stock btc address help

Since you sent it to Koinecks, Koinecks is the only one that has the private keys. There is nothing realistic that we can recommend that you do other than contacting Koinecks support.
1133  Economy / Exchanges / Re: I sent bchabc to btc on: January 05, 2019, 07:05:38 AM
You will have to contact the exchange, Koineks, and see if they are willing to import the private key(s) for BTC into their BCHABC wallet. Unfortunately, most exchanges are unwilling to do this.
1134  Economy / Economics / Re: McAfee Says Crypto Mining Malware Increased 4,000% in 2018 on: January 05, 2019, 06:16:03 AM
McAfee have a good reputation in internet security. Cryptocurrency getting more popular every years and its attracting hackers to steal peoples coin and token. Its our own responsible to secure our own wallet because right now many suspicious link sent to our email. We should keep safe our private key and not share it to anyone we can not trust

Wat??? Mcafee AV has got to be the worst garbage on the market. I realize that Mr McAfee hasn't had a hand in the company for quite a long while. However, it's garbage now and was garbage back in the day.
By the way, I wouldn't give absolutely any credence to anything this guy states. The guy is a walking chemistry lab.  Cheesy I strongly believe that I would find better advice and predictions if I went to a mental hospital and interviewed a paranoid schizophrenic who's not responding to medication.
1135  Other / Meta / Re: ETFbitcoin's merit source application on: January 05, 2019, 05:43:24 AM
Congratulations. You deserve it.
1136  Other / Meta / Re: Attention Theymos: This is a sMerit holdup! Hands in the air! on: January 05, 2019, 04:09:52 AM
Wow, I got an increase too. Also there are now 123 merit sources. I wonder who got the honors.
1137  Economy / Reputation / Re: Poll: is it OK to send merits to your own alts? on: January 05, 2019, 02:19:44 AM
It is definitely not cool to merit your alts. I think it is perfectly justifiable to add red trust to someone who is caught, with definitive proof that the accounts are linked. Unfortunately, if someone is crafty enough, there isn't much we can do about it.
1138  Other / Meta / Re: Why do I get banned I didn't do anything wrong? on: January 05, 2019, 12:49:42 AM
Poor OP ended up getting 3 more of his accounts banned by bringing in a "white knight" alt account.  Grin

See this thread for details.

1139  Other / Meta / Re: Temporary Banned Accounts on: January 04, 2019, 02:17:38 PM
Approxilite is now autobanned as well.   https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=Approxilite

Approxilite deleted that post LOL

BTW Elexsis is banned too. So if you have other alts in sight please post them here. If mods won't ban I think I'll start red tagging the puppets.

Well a google search of the BTC address found this profile: Yadstiker. However, it appears the posts are now deleted.
1140  Other / Meta / Re: Temporary Banned Accounts on: January 04, 2019, 07:16:13 AM

My bad sorry for doing this kind of things I just really want my account back I know it was a mistake after all but I'm doing my best just to earn some merits.

Your accounts represent the epitome of what this forum wants to purge with the stringent copy/paste ban. Please don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
