What I do not understand is why these Asic manufactures have to only offer these noisy machines that require a separate power supply. I would be very happy if they offered a small miner that does the same hashrate as my 1070 and only uses 12 watts. I miss the USB stick miners.  Cry
1902  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Technical questions about premine ? on: May 08, 2018, 01:34:51 AM
The coins awarded in the genesis block for BTC are not spendable. Since most coins are a fork from BTC, the genesis block reward would not be spendable for those coins as well. I'm not sure if any coins corrected the code for their coins so that the genesis block reward is spendable.
Since the starting difficulty is rather low when a coin starts out(you can set the minimum difficulty in the code. with BTC, I believe it was 1), the dev can usually just solo mine the 1st block in a short period of time.

One little question and please you don't think I'm eager and I konw it isn't the only task you are working, but there is one thing I cna't undestand... one week testnet rewards are still pending... There are only 36 addresses on Tier II... what kind of checking do you need to go forward with rewards, could I send you anything to speed the process... there are people that have been paid and other we don't have anyclue of what could we do to help and check the addresses...

I think, as me, there are other people marked as green... that mean with a verified address, so, please... could you tell us how could help you?

Thanks in advance

If you go back a little, there is a specific thread linked for testnet rewards, I think it's better to ask directly there.

I know, I asked there before but I didn't get answer so I'm trying here  Huh

I sent a PM to hclivess and verified my address again. I also left my node and GUI wallet open. I never got a written response from him, but my reward was in my wallet soon after he was shown as active on Bitcointalk.(He doesn't check everyday.) Not sure if that is the trick, but I did get my coins.

It's necessary. Just a matter of when.

I'm not saying BTC doesn't need to eventually move over to larger blocks, but I support their slower, safer, forward-thinking, incremental approach to things.

I'll grant that Core's approach to scaling is slower than Cash's, but it certainly ain't safer.

Core is the name of the WALLET you trolling fuck.

True to form. Do you feel your statement has shown my assertion to be false? Because your reply is a mere irrelevancy.

You obnoxious fuck.  Roll Eyes

What do you expect? I'm sure if I decided to post in the BCH thread and called it BCASH, all of your friends would jump down my throat. If you can't bare to refer to BTC as Bitcoin, then just refer to it as BTC here. Fair enough?
1905  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: May 07, 2018, 04:19:21 AM
Thanks for the input guys. I did upgrade my Monero GUI to the latest version. I think the issue now is that, after the upgrade, the blockchain has to be "corrected" such that my GUI syncs to the right chain after the fork. I hope this works. As an aside, say I royally F this up, wouldn't it be possible to just redownload the new version of the Monero GUI and launch it anew with my seed words?

Yes, if you have the seed words that will definitely help.
1906  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: May 07, 2018, 02:22:31 AM
Hi, I was hoping to get some help regarding my Monero GUI wallet for my MacBook pro. I have been using my Monero wallet since September 15th, 2017 without difficulty. Recently, I purchased some Monero on TradeOgre. I sent the coins to my GUI wallet and they never arrived. This was the first time I have not received my coins. The next day I used ChangeNow to convert BTC to Monero and had them sent to my wallet. Again the coins did not arrive. I have logged in and out of my wallet several times. Moreover, it says that the network status is connected. Any help from those who have had such issues or from those who know how to correct this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I suspect your funds are going towards the construction of a new gypsy palace, don't store your coins on websites folks.

What kind of worthless advise is this? The person stated they purchased Monero and then they were trying to transfer to their personal GUI wallet. They were not keeping their coins on a website. Unless you want to consider the moments between purchase and the withdrawal "keeping."
@Zebulonpike. You have updated your wallet to the latest version due to the recent hardfork, correct?
1907  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Restore Funds on: May 06, 2018, 03:01:59 PM
Also, going forward, if you have access to a printer, you can make a print out of the QR code with your key for 2fa. You can also write down the key with pen and paper. Just keep the piece of paper in a safe place to avoid theft.
1908  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: May 06, 2018, 10:08:50 AM
how can I long monero with leverage? I trust the team and the coin and I want to increase the gains in the short term

Poloniex offers leverage. But I believe the margin is only 2.5x. Unfortunately, Bitmex discontinued listing XMR contracts.

Edit: It appears Kraken offers 5X leverage for Monero.

I see that the bot that I am tinkering with, which is basically set to BTFD and then scalp if there is a rebound, has been busy for the past few hours buying. Hope that I am not catching a falling knife.

wtf? we need a new low Roll Eyes

Yes, I will be more than willing to make someone a pizza for 10000 BTC. Or did people actually make OTC trades in the earlier days for an even lower price?

not that is known about.
i meant like wick down to 5800 and shoot back up Wink Wink

I remember a year ago when people would tout 5000 USD, I thought that they were fantasizing. Now 5800 is like a bear's wet dream.  Cheesy

I am a little bit scared of bitcoin lightning network, it can overcome our crypto bch or not? I don’t want to panicsell and I want to be prepared on the topic

Meh. Lightning network still has some bugs to work out. How many years has this been in the works for the Blockstream team? I'll let all the other BTC fanboys alpha and beta test it for me. ATM I wouldn't worry too much about it it.

1912  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 06, 2018, 09:38:36 AM
Can someone clarify this for me since I was so gravely misinformed? I thought Equihash uses a great deal of memory and that it was supposed to deter ASIC manufacturing since the ram requirements would make the machine uneconomically. Did Zooko lie to us, or just didn't really think this through?

Ethash is the most mem heavy afaik. I think it's a heavier one, but I would assume they've figured out a workaround of some sort...

Are we even sure the new Z9 miner is really an ASIC and not a FPGA? If it is an FPGA, this would thwart any efforts that coins made to slightly modify the algorithm. All Bitmain would need to do is update the firmware.

Join us in the next episode of Sesame Street where young goyim TERA learns the miracle of spoofing to harness the power of the fact humans have a finite lifespan, so there really is a sucker born every minute.
Spoofing and such is over-diagnosed here.

What is a goyim?

The only problem is the spoofer is usually just tipping his hand to more experienced smart money with large quantities of cash who can destroy him, while only tricking newer, dumb money retail investors who aren't even a threat to him.  The fact bitcoin has been spoofed 24/7 by a single entity operating on Bitfinex who controls the entire market with an iron fist since $200 indicates it's been a cornered, completely centralized market for a long time whose main goal is to fleece small time retail investors to unload their toxic asset because they don't care about tipping people like me off at all.  In other words, they operate a bad scam that doesn't work very well, but they make it up on volume.

How would spoofy be destroyed if he/it can make the fake walls disappear in fractions of a second and would probably be running on spoofed assets as well? Isn't that the theory of what is going on with Tethers anyway? Bitfinex could just be ordering up more Tethers as a cover for running a fractional reserve. The hope being that people just transfer their tethers to other exchanges rather than asking for a bank transfer of fiat.
1914  Other / Meta / Re: Do source's smerit allowance increase if the sources are doing a respectable job on: May 06, 2018, 03:23:55 AM
I don't think anyone source has gotten more merits. I know I haven't. The merit source stat page says:
Quote
There are 79 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 17750 sMerit per 30 days
I believe there was 17980 generation before 1 source was removed.

My guess is that your friend just sent more merits on some days than others. Merits that you send come back in 30 days, and he/she may have sent more on certain dates than others. I would tell them to not worry about it, as it is a volunteer thing I'm pretty sure there's quite a few sources wasting a lot of sMerits (bottom of most generous sent 213 merits).

If they wish to spend merits faster, it might be worth considering giving more. Not sure how much he gives but I've switched to giving most posts 2 merits instead of one.

This answer seems to make the most sense. Now I, uhh, I mean "my friend" has an understanding what is going on. Many thanks. Wink
1915  Other / Meta / Re: Respectable, spell it right. on: May 06, 2018, 02:57:14 AM
My friend was made aware that the amount of smerits could increase upon review. However, my friend was under the impression that this would only be once a month or longer. My friend swears that the increase seems to be gaining momentum. Maybe, he is just overwhelmed. He wants to do a good job, but he's beginning to feel like Lucy and Ethel at the chocolate factory.
Do you work next to his computer terminal in an office by any chance?  What is it he wants to do a good job at, anyway?  Why are you writing this instead of him?  Did he get banned?  So many questions here.

If he feels like Lucy in that gif, he's likely here for all the wrong reasons.  The bullshit alarm goes off in my head whenever I hear people say how desperate they (or their friends) are to earn merit, how concerned they are about the merit system, or how hard they're working on bitcointalk.  To OP's credit, his English isn't bad at all.  But when you have a typo in a thread title, it makes me cringe.

"Resectable" is a word, I think, but one that only a surgeon would probably use.

Maybe I got this wrong but between the thread title and the back and forth with OP, I'm assuming their friend is a source.
Ah, that could be.  I tend to read things very cynically, and I may have jumped to the wrong conclusion on this one--though I don't know why the friend would feel overworked as a merit source.  There's no real requirement for them to give out merits to meet a quota that I know of, but I do realize how hard it is to find posts really deserving of them.  At least it's hard to find a variety of posters who deserve them.  I tend to keep meriting the same people over and over, though I do try to find a good mix.

OP title changed. Fat fingers typo. Plus, everyone should know what "asking for a friend" really means...  Grin "My friend" was granted this responsibility by Theymos and wants to do a good job. My friend feels that if he doesn't disperse his daily allotment, he's slacking off on the responsibility given to him. However, sifting through all of these threads to try and find a few gold flecks, is getting to be daunting.
Furthermore, the reason that I am writing this "for a friend" is because "my friend" doesn't want to be inundated with PMs begging for merit.  Cheesy

I never understood why there is resistance? I dont get it, can somebody explain? 10k will break. Why are people building walls to hold it sub 10k as long as possible?

Much of the resistance is thinking that the ask or stop they put in is near a little peak. They are hoping that a dip will then occur and they can buy back cheaper. Rinse and repeat several times.
1917  Other / Meta / Re: Do source's smerit allowance increase if the sources are doing a respectable on: May 06, 2018, 02:14:37 AM
Well good for your friend.
I have noticed there are a few sources out there actively trying to find and merit quality posts. Regardless of whether they are in the sections they normally frequent or not.

If they are  getting smerit daily, is there a chance it is due to them getting merited heavily for their own quality posts? Or is there some sort of notification when their merit source allotment is topped up?

Being a source does have the advantage of being able to apply more merit per post as they will be replenished; I know a lot of us "normies" tossed around smerit lime it was payday, and now have less to hand out.

No, the extra smerits are definitely coming from being a source and not getting many smerits from having his posts merited. It appears that when someone is a source, the merit page gives two separate totals. One for smerits gained from the initial allotment plus new smerits earned from getting the posts merited and another total for the smerits given because they are a source.

is a roger ver a scammer? I heard of a lawsuit against him but I trust him and his team. what do you think?

I honestly feel Roger Ver feels Bitcoin Cash is the legitimate fork and more closely follows the original white paper. I don't think someone can be considered a scammer if they honestly believe what they are touting. After all, I do not think most Jehovah witnesses are "scammers.' They truly believe they are the legitimate Christian church and that the rest of the church went apostate when they declared that the Arian view was wrong.

wow
Mr B, well said....respect.  Wink Tongue

Where have you been?, (also classicsuks, hope he is all good)
not saw you for so long...last time i think was when i asked you to say we going over $6k,lol
you didnt, so we stopped at $5k lol...
Are you up for it now m8?
Is your body ready to go over $6k -1 BCH

I went on tinkering with other things in the cryptocurrency world. In November I bought a new desktop with a Nvidia 1070 GPU to mine some shitcoins. Unfortunately, Bitmain and other companies have been pumping out ASICS left and right. So, I suspect my little hobby mining project will be coming to an end shortly. However, I keep an eye out on what Craig Wright has been tweeting. I must admit, it seems that BCH may actually have some good developments coming on down the pipe.

Furthermore, I think the lawsuit is bullshit. I think people honestly feel "noobs" are dumber than they think. And who cares if they bought BCH thinking it was BTC. If they discover their error in time, they can convert their BCH to BTC on a multitude of exchanges and any losses that they incur would be minimal. Shoot, in the past couple of days, the "error" would have actually made them come out ahead. Only snag would be if they ended up sending BCH to a BTC address in error.
1920  Other / Meta / Re: Do source's smerit allowance increase if the sources are doing a resectable job? on: May 06, 2018, 01:25:44 AM
Hate to be that guy but the title should be respectable.

Not sure if he will be awarding sources more smerit or just adding more sources as Theymos sees fit.

I can't remember who but a source had a thread wondering when their smerit would be stocked again as they had run out. I guess if more sources make themselves known they could enlighten us to how many they have been receiving each month

My friend seems to be receiving fresh smerit daily. I guess he could sit down and try to calculate it, but he has been busy lately trying to sift through all these posts to try and find posts worthy to merit. I suppose that he could just be more generous since you can award 50 merits in one lump sum if you want to. However, he doesn't want to do a half assed job, and lose the honor altogether.
