1461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Are we still in risk? on: October 17, 2018, 04:06:16 AM

Whether it is still possible or not by network rules to accept/validate a block containing such a transaction -- I'm pretty sure that if any miner right now would mine/include/build such a block, it will be quickly orphaned, as the majority of the miners are not malicious, and the reputation of said miner destroyed.

Therefore it seems pretty unlikely to happen - if it still is even possible in the first place. (Which i'm pretty curious about? Is it? There's a fairly large share of nodes still running older versions.)

You can see the amount of nodes # per version here, https://bitnodes.earn.com/nodes/

It's possible that a miner could include this into a block, and temporarily fool the vulnerable nodes that are not upgraded. However, if the miner does not have 51% of the hash rate, the bad actor's chain will be reorganized by the vulnerable nodes as soon as the legit chain has the most work again. I really can't see how a miner could take advantage of this double spend, since the miner will not have much time to do much damage. The bad actor would have to find someone stupid, who will accept the double spend transaction with 1 or maybe 2 confirmation.

I new here so newbie question. What is account farming? And yes, copy paste articles from other places isn't ok.

Account farming is where a person creates multiple accounts with the intent to sell them in the future. The higher rank an account is, the more they can sell it for. Before we had the merit system, all the account farmers had to do was post 2 insubstantial posts per day with each account and eventually rank up their accounts. Now, it is a bit more challenging because the account farmers also have to have their farmed accounts earn merit to rank them up. So now the account farmers have to resort to tricks in an attempt to get merit.

~snip~

I don't think you know what you found here. This has to be one of the most important discoveries made in recent history. Everything started on May 22nd, 2018. I will quote some of the posts because I really believe this is some kind of puzzle or cipher key left by an advanced alien civilization.

I name diverse employees who remuneration embodying one altcoin embodying each the boodle and wait embodying the earnings.  That's not worth doing.

Most mankind are inactivity championing a morality acumen to first process amassing currencies. A abundance of mankind are too getting out of crypto.

I comprehend it denatured assorted people's get-up-and-go cosmopolitan, and I comprehend the esteem and conqueror of the cryptocurrencies likely to increase.

I impetus victimisation IDEX from these times on. Much ameliorate and quicker than ED. You operation it with metamask or similar.

I conceive that could be viable, mainly in a burly rubberneck loci in organization to construct the pay business in carry easy and fast.

Doubters will question the origin of these posts and blame it on a glitchy spinbot but for the rest of us...this is an eye-opening experience.

Rucapri0 is definitely the Jackson Pollock of shitposting. More of his artwork can be found here.  Grin  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1048440;sa=showPosts;start=20

I suspect many of the merit sources are going to start getting their smerit coffers filling up again on the 17th. The rewarded smerits should be on the rise, soon.
I don't think the spike in Merit distribution came from merit sources, I think it largely came from merit abusers sending to their alt accounts (or buyers). So going down to normal is a good thing.
Also, source Merit is refilled 30 days after sending, not once per month only. I sent Merit 27 times on September 15, so I expect 27 (small) refills today.

I'm just going off of what happened in my case. The amount of smerits that I get to distribute monthly increased that day. It was topped off to the new limit, so my smerits have not been replenished throughout the month. I am expecting that they will resume getting replenished in a couple of days.

1466  Other / Meta / Re: my account is blocked, what should I do on: October 14, 2018, 07:34:34 PM

I understood what my mistake was, but I would like to know what I need to do now so that my account is unblocked?

Unfortunately, Bitcointalk has a practically zero tolerance policy for plagiarism.
1467  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: This piece of information got me confused on: October 14, 2018, 04:13:24 AM
The blocks validated by the full node is the full blockchain according to that node. A full node could use modified software(ie Bitcoin Unlimited, UASF) and elect to tighten or relax certain rules for validation of a block to include in their version of the chain. However, if they cannot get other full nodes to also agree with their consensus changes(particularly a miner node that will build further blocks on their chain) they could find that their node is stranded on a frozen chain for tightened rules. (For relaxed rules, their chain will just end up being reorganized if the majority of miners won't build on top of the chain.)
1468  Other / Meta / Re: Shouldn't bounty managers clean up spam posts in their thread ? on: October 13, 2018, 06:13:58 PM
Are thread starters (bounty managers) allowed to delete comments done by bounty participants? Or the only option is to report to moderators?

When you start a topic, you have the option to make it a self moderated thread. The OP can then delete posts for any reason that they feel like.
1469  Other / Meta / Re: MYTHBUSTERS: Only high ranked users are rewarded with merits on: October 13, 2018, 03:06:32 PM

I was going to send you 1 Merit for this post but I checked out your post history & it’s littered with Bounty Hunting spam so I’m not going to now, sorry.

You’ll never rank up if the majority of your posts are in that shit hole of the forum. More posts like this though & you’ll rank up.

But isn't this attitude counter-productive? We're meant to be rewarding users who make decent posts and if a user makes one then that post probably should be merited. I get your logic though, and this is why I'd argue that I think we should up the requirement to ten because I think merit sources would actually be more liberal with their merits and users would also have to make a few decent posts to get the merit and not just one. When all they need is one it makes their job much easier and merit sources much harder because they don't want to give a shitposting bounty hunter the merit if that's all they need. A lot of users will probably just give up trying to make decent/great posts once they'd achieved Junior rank and I think that's a real issue. It's a bit of pain when we have to start checking user's post history just to check if they should be merited, but if the requirement is ten merit then we probably don't need to do that and can start being more liberal which benefits everyone.

I ponied up the one merit. At least she isn't posting nonsense/copy-paste in mega-threads to meet some bounty requirements or farm an account. Bounty reports are not really "spam" since it is required to collect the bounty and is therefore a welcomed post.

Bitcoin is crashing. We're all going to die. Time to start acquiring a taste for canned dog food. Practice this phrase: "do you want fries with that?".

You made me look.

Im not fake red trust anymore, how or why i got no idea.
Anyone else get un-redded lol ?

Lauda is no longer part of default trust. Lauda's bad trust review is still there. It is just under "untrusted" feedback. If someone high up puts Lauda on their trust list again, your red trust will come back. Plus, there is a troop of default trust people that are going through Lauda's list and will add bad trust, if they feel it is merited. Apparently, no one on the default trust list feels they should add a negative comment to replace Lauda's, at this time.

This is so hard! I was following an old guide i guess. damn, But I guess it does mean it'll push people to post with quality... I'm just trying to get jr member to make my posts look better with images, proving to be a pain to get the 1 merit required, I thought it was 30 posts so trying to be as active as possible on my thread lol

I granted you a mercy merit. However, if you should create another altcoin in the future, you can purchase a Copper Membership. It's only a little over .002 BTC

Sounds crazy but there are rumors that more than 30% of BTC in circulatory is gone forever  and I think this  had consequences for BCH advance as alternatives had to be found.

Huh Not sure what you are driving at? Are you talking about the possibility of BTC fees getting so high that many UTXO are more expensive to send that what they are worth? The reason BCH came into existence was to cater to a substantial part of the Bitcoin community who believed the block size should simply be raised. It's that simple.

No, I meant  people who had lost their BTC   would  likely use  BCH which is more affordable alternative for them.

Are you talking about people who lost their bitcoin either by sending to the wrong address or losing their private key? I don't see why they would proceed to pick BCH rather than BTC, unless they feel BCH has more upside potential.
1474  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to reach a high rank nowadays? on: October 09, 2018, 01:22:28 PM
You seem to have gotten your first 2 merits easily enough (by making this topic). So you are your own proof one can make progress here.

I don't get why those 2 members gave OP merits though. The post was really just a longer version of a complaint topic about merit.

This was the latest instructions that Theymos gave to me. I'm doing the best that I can with my delegated responsibility.

You are now a merit source, or if you were already a merit source, your monthly source merit was increased.

I recommend:
 - If a newbie posts something that could be even called good, then give them 1 merit. It doesn't need to be a great post.
 - It's best to use all of your source merit. If you don't naturally do so, try giving people more merit per post on average. If you don't send your source merit, then nobody gets it, but if you do send it, then the recipient can pass half of it on.

Thanks!
1475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]XDNA-Revolution in mining|GPU ONLY HEX algo|Charity Support|NoICO|Cryptopia on: October 08, 2018, 01:55:50 PM
Light masternodt XDNA gets 3% of the found block. This is written in the description of the project on the website and on the first page of this thread on the forum.

Personally I hold a Full MN, so I can't answer you.
But it's really easy to calculate it by yourself and this way you'll be able to plan ahead and invest based on the conditions you believe that'll become reality in the near future, here's how.

One day has 24 hours and every 1 hours 60 XDNA blocks are generated. You need to know how many Masternodes of the same level are active and how much is the block reward, which is dynamic and controlled by the BitGun algorithm. The BitGun levels we've visited are from 1 to 7, so the rewards would be from 4 to 25 respectively.
A Light MN gets 3% of that reward, so from 0.12 XDNA to 0.75 XDNA per block.

24 (hours) * 60 (mined blocks) / MN (amount of masternodes) * XDNA (amount of your MN rewards per block)

Right now the best option would be a Medium Masternode because they are the fewest among the three levels, but if you insist on calculating the rewards on a Light MN...

With about 125 Light MNs,

24 * 60 / 125 * 0.12 XDNA = 1,3824 XDNA per day

Now think that we reach again the hashrate we had after we forked to the HEX hashing algo, but a 20% more MNs are added so the competition will be harder,
24 * 60 / 150 * 0.75 = 7,2 XDNA per day

As you can imagine, the early adopters who already had a MN 2 months ago made very good profit! I believe history will repeat itself, if you believe that as well, then you can prepare while it's still early.

Actually, I am an early adopter with a level one light masternode and I am nowhere near getting ROI. The cost to mine was much higher in the beginning than it is now. My light Masternode has only earned a little shy of 400 coins, which I have sold along the way. Unfortunately, the price of xdna has fallen from a high of 20000 sats BTC to what it is now. Hopefully, the price will recover.

1477  Other / Meta / Re: Hunt for the no merit highest post count record. 0 Merit 3139 posts on: October 08, 2018, 04:18:11 AM

Some people spend most of their time just in the miners' sections. And end up posting more on some of the mega topics related to pools and equipment. And these users end up being unfamiliar with the rest of the forum. They are more interested in altcoins that are mining. Not so much in Bitcoins.

Not writing shitposts is not enough to earn merit. It is necessary to go to the sections where there is abundance in the distribution of the merits, like the Meta section.

philipma1957 was recently made a merit source. So the miners should start receiving a little more love.  Smiley

I have a question for you also, do you not think that If bitcointalk refuses to adapt to this increased userbase than it's  ability to survive against competitors and continue to be the favored place for crypto discussion will continue for very long?

As far as I know, Bitcointalk is run as not-for-profit. Also, as far as I know, it has enough funds to keep running for quite sometime, even if revenue from donations and advertising stop completely. Also, since this forum happens to contain many important posts that are important to Bitcoin's history, (i.e Satosi's posts) I am certain some form of it will survive in archival form.
1479  Other / Meta / Re: PLEASE HELP ME UNBAN MY ACCOUNT I AM BANNED FOR MORE THAN 7 DAYS NOW on: October 08, 2018, 03:29:08 AM
Hello, as I said, I'm sorry for creating a new account, because I don't know where I can contact someone for a help, because as part of 7days banned I am also prohibited for sending PM's to anyone here on forum. I have search also some cases of other banned users that their account which is also got banned for 7 days doesn't get unban for almost a month so I got worried for my account as well, so I am trying to call for a help of a Mod to please notice my account because it is past 7 days now. Why is the ban doesn't expire automatically if it is past 7 days? I am also aware that my account is almost full of bounty posts, sorry for not posting more quality posts but next time I'll try my best to contribute more quality posts here on forum, I learned from my mistakes now.

Once you got banned, you really should have gone to the following topic and did your best to understand the rules. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.1 Now you have compounded your woes by making another post with this current account outside of appealing your ban.(I'm not sure if the mods will be forgiving since your were told it was only a 7 day ban and you did honor it for 7 days; however, you didn't wait until the ban got officially lifted by the staff/system.)
1480  Other / Meta / Re: PLEASE HELP ME UNBAN MY ACCOUNT I AM BANNED FOR MORE THAN 7 DAYS NOW on: October 08, 2018, 02:33:18 AM
Being unaware of the rules and simply being "sorry" isn't going to get you unbanned. Learn from your mistake, then move on. It's really unlikely for your account to get unbanned. You barely actually discuss anyway. Majority of your posts are for bounty campaigns.

It's not a permaband. It's a 7 day ban. Why wouldn't the ban eventually expire? However, it appears the OP wasn't patient and used this new account to post outside Meta. Unfortunately, now it's the offense of ban evasion.  Roll Eyes
