Finding support at $7.25k? This is also a long period fib from last months sell off. How did all you knife catchers do?   Grin
Would recommend patience while the market finds a direction...once again. #dyor

Yeah looks like 7300 is holding up, a hell of a sell off but could this be due to the "Asian Whale" in the news that moved a bunch of coins to an exchange a few days ago?
Nah man, its time for new lows. Market is dead. Below 7000 in 24 hours, below 6000 in 72 hours, below 5000 this time next week.
Kay, I totally trust you oracle of the wall thread.

Yes, based on this analysis, I going to deposit all funds to Bitmex, ASAP; go all in; take market order 100x leverage.  Grin

Good grief! We haven't even broke 7000 USD yet and here come the bears stating we are due for another 66% drop. Guess that's what all the bulls get for predicting the moon shot is just a heartbeat away.

Perhaps this is a good excuse to have a relapse.  Cheesy

1824  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why do some people believe that only the nodes miners run matter? on: June 08, 2018, 06:07:37 AM
The "steal all the segwit" chain would be absolutely worthless. The markets will most likely be frozen before the bad actor can close their short positions. Even if the bad actor was fast, it is highly doubtful that the bad actor will be able to recoup his costs for this 10+ month chain reorganization he will be attempting, especially in this relatively illiquid market. Also, if the bad actor's intent was to absolutely destroy Bitcoin, that will not come to fruition either. I would see an emergency hardfork in the works. I really doubt any entity is going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to try and implement a "steal the segwit" 51% attack. Also, I doubt that the attacker is somehow going to make his chain plausible by trying to bribe people to accept it. How many billions is that going to cost?  Cheesy
1825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: June 06, 2018, 10:42:30 PM
I am really upset, how they are treating batch 1 customers. I would rather get a second miner with batch 2 than two soon to be expired coupons. I submitted a ticket to them asking for this and will write on twitter. I think everybody, who is upset about this should do that. Maybe they will change their policy for batch 1 owners, if they get enough pressure.

This is nothing.

Back in the day Bitcoin ASIC manufactures would do much worse like take a pre-order and make a whole bunch of ASICs and coincidentally the price of BTC shot up... then of all a sudden shipping delays started.

They would mine for months... and then ship them.

A few manufactures comes to mind... Bitmain wasn't one of them.

Was this what was going on with Butterfly Labs?

Also, there was GAW who strung people out with their cloud mining service, to culminate in the XPY scam.
1826  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 05, 2018, 10:37:06 PM
but we did go to the moon right?
i mean 20K is not bad right?

No, it wasn't too bad. It allowed for many people to finally gain some form of financial independence. However, minnows like me need it to go to $100000 USD. I long for the day that I can tell my employer good bye. Grin

1827  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Unwillingness to share signatures on: June 05, 2018, 10:03:01 PM
I hadn't heard of that, it certainly is more what I expected. Now unless I'm missing something in order to verify an address I need the public key the signature and the message (ideally one I decided upon)

From any one part alone I couldn't verify the address and since I can't change the message it would be impossible to fake right?

Yes, someone else in the thread verifies and and quotes your signature information. That way someone who hacked your account can't simply modify the original message that you signed. The hacker would also have to hack the account that quoted you.
1828  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 05, 2018, 09:41:22 PM
Mannnnnnn, do something bitcoin.

LOL, it just did... something.

I should have specified - do something.....something green Smiley

Is that all the bears have to offer? Let's hope so.

ZenCash network was the target of a 51% attack Cheesy

Those double spendings is a hype among hackers these days lol.

It's amazing how the two 51% attacks that I heard about are Equihash coins that intend to fork away to a new algo due to Bitmain's recently released Z9 ASIC. However, Jihan denies Bitmain would ever do that. Roll Eyes In fact Jihan told Zooko Wilcox that they don't do stealth mining at all and Zooko believed him.  Cheesy

BCH pump in progress

so what
only a handfull of idiots down there

whatever, I made like .01 BTC overnight off that shit

Yes, it was nice to see some of my older BCH positions get scalped last night with my BTFD bot.

Well, that is nice and all. However, I have seen this all before. That somehow this new algorithm is ASIC resistant. The simple fact of the matter is that the algorithm may really only be resistant to the current known technology. However, better chip design is an ongoing process. I am quite certain that the Bitmain R&D team is busy coming up with ways to flout anything the community will try to stymie them. And if their team can't do it, I am sure they will be happy to ask for the assistance of Nvidia, Amd, Intel, Samsung or whatever other chip manufacturer, and pony up the cash to come up with a solution for them.

HI BITMAIN SHILL,

Meet PROG Proof of Work, which renders ASIC's and FPGA's on an even keel with GPU's for the most part.  [About 1.1 or 1.2 to 1.0]:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6B-ZCyP6K8&t=4s

I don't intend to shill for Bitmain. I am just really disheartened that ASICs are cropping up left and right. All I want to do is hobby mine with my one GPU. I really don't want to be forced to buy dedicated or limited hardware just to continue to hobby mine. Most of these ASICS are probably going to be replaced with with better ones in a year or two. So, I end up with a bunch of bricks that didn't even ROI because the difficulty on the coin(s) shot up sky high. At least when my 1 1070 becomes obsolete for mining, it's attached to a desktop that I can enjoy for 4 years or more. Or I can simply upgrade the GPU, which is usually cheaper than buying specialized equipment. Cry
Bitmain coming out with the Z9 has really made me cynical as well. I was under the mistaken notion that Equihash was "ASIC resistant" because of the memory requirements. Now I look at this new proposed algo, and I'm skeptical.  I feel like Bitmain will just cut out the two unneeded components and optimize/improve the components that are needed. If they can't do it, like I said before, they can offer another chip maker to do it.
Also, due to economies of scale, Bitmain can always set up large farms that will get electricity and the equipment for way cheaper than anybody else, ATM. If they don't like the electricity rates in China, the can simply set up a huge farm elsewhere. I don't believe Jihan Wu when he told Zooko that they don't have any "large" GPU farms. Even if true, they are in good position to set up a large one, if need be.

Computers are going away.  Fewer and fewer people have a "computer".  Everyone has phones, so clearly we need to change to PROG POW and restrict all mining to cell phones...  You know, for the greater good and decentralization and all.  Roll Eyes

That would be ideal. However, King would probably come up with a botnet which would allow people to get lives faster, if they use this new nifty feature...
1832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: June 03, 2018, 04:50:33 AM
All this constant forking is going to do is encourage Bitmain to develop more efficient FPGA's instead. Then when a major coin forks away, they just update the firmware. Sorry, Bitmain survived and thrived after the 2014/2015 bear market. They are too big now and we are just going to have to put up with them. Our only hope is some genius comes along and develops a better chip that blows them out of the water and/or finds a way to build massive farms for cheaper electricity. Only problem: we are probably going to end up hating that company too.  Cheesy

MEET PROG PROOF OF WORK THAT ALSO RENDERS FPGA's on an even keep with GPU's:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6B-ZCyP6K8&t=4s. It doesn't mention FPGA's in that video.  However, if you go to the link on Reddit underneath the video and read in what developers discuss, you'll see it also renders FPGA's on an even keel with GPU's.

I don't see what is controversial about my statement... which part of my statement is controversial?

my doubting of the moon landing or my confidence that the earth is not flat?

doubting the moon landing...seriously, that shit is cray

Perhaps it is better that we forget about it. What a phenomenal waste of money, time and talent. NASA would have been better off, and gathered much more useful science by sending umpteen unmanned missions instead.  I feel the exact same way about NASA's current project on sending a manned mission to Mars.
1835  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: No Bitcoin has ever been mined. on: June 03, 2018, 12:09:08 AM
I give. Exactly where does one find the mother lode of unlimited gold?
Bitcoin is arbitrarily limited with the difficulty and block reward adjustments whereas gold could technically (provided the right technology and enough energy) be alchemized. Not only that but by extrapolating the amount of gold found in this solar system, you'll find that there's bound to be a shit-ton more elsewhere in the universe.

By bad. I forgot that a synthetic cubic zirconia diamond is the same price as a blood diamond.

"Root beer cost only a shit-ton of gold? At that price, Quarks will soon be bankrupt."

Don't worry. It will be more economical to drill a mine to the core of the Earth to obtain the "motherlode" found there than to  alchemize gold or asteroid mine. Grin

In many cases the market manipulators may be the OTC brokers themselves when they realize they have a whale at the end of their harpoon. Whale gets an OTC quote to sell, broker blows his load to drive market price down, whale executes, broker buys back in driving price up again when the next whale comes to buy, profits on his 1-3% margin. Bart pattern complete.

The 6 Costliest Mistakes People Make When Trading Bitcoin OTC

Well, I started to read the article and almost completed. Then I realized that I will probably never be put in a situation where I have to start trading OTC in fear that any moves that I would make would deeply affect the markets in any way.  Cheesy

Why do all experts, whales and dickheads insist that capitulation has not occurred and cry, beg, scream, insist for lower prices?

I saw capitulation on Feb 5th!

True capitulation about 8 bleedin' weeks from an all-time high? Don't be daffy.

There goes my last merit. I hope no one else posted such sensible stuff later on.

yeah..how does that work.... I was legendary when I got some....so confused on what happens when you spend it all?

When you spend all of your sMerit, you will not be able reward any more mertis until you get more with one of the following two ways:
a) You are one of the 80 sources that get smerit replenished, so you can give out.
b)You earn 2 merits which gives you 1 sMerit to give out.
1839  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is quantum computing threat to Bitcoin ? on: May 31, 2018, 11:07:35 PM
Even a quantum computer takes over 2^45 operations to rewrite the chain which has accumulated work of 2^89 hashes. Even at a generous single cycle double SHA computation and 1 Ghz quantum cycle time this will take 2^15 seconds. That's about 10 hours rather than a nanosecond.
Well, let's hope there are at least two white hats building on top of the BTC blockchain with their Quantum rig before 1 black hat decides to rewrite the entire chain in 10 hours. Also, wouldn't it take longer since every 2016 blocks, the difficulty of the clandestine network would go up 4x until it took them approximately 10 minutes to mine a block?

Oops; I had forgotten about the need to mine 2016 blocks at current difficulty before allowing it to quadruple (and I thought it could at most double). So correcting for both errors, the 10 hours becomes 10000 hours, or well over a year. Throw in more realistic quantum cycle times, constant factor overheads in Grover's algorithm, and quantum error correction slowdowns, and you're looking at many years...

Perhaps there is a way to modify the BTC code or the clock on the rig to spoof the time in the blockheaders. That way, your could make your clandestine chain think it's solving a block about every 10 minutes when it is really mining a block every few seconds. Or is this something that just can't be spoofed?

Well, it looks like my BTFD bot is probably busy right now.  Cry Can't check on it because I am at work and have no idea what my password is.
