I'm not sure how effective that would be. There are too many personal message apps that can be used, as well as e-mail. There is only so much that a web crawler can do. Also, someone can take on many different identities on the internet. Moreover, AFAIK, engaging in account sales is not an illegal act in any jurisdiction. Furthermore, I do not think Theymos wants to expend time and money to issue cease and desist letters and other legal action to try and stop this in civil court.
If there is a way to stop a harmful effect for forum, I think that should do for the forum.

What would probably help the most is for the forum to implement silver, gold, platinum and diamond memberships. Silver would get you the same editing privileges as a member; gold as a full member; platinum as a Sr member and diamond as a hero/legendary. That way people can have the option for paying for privileges directly to bitcointalk rather than buying a higher ranked account, or hoping to rank up. Furthermore, if they paid for a membership, they may be encouraged not to go about trying to get away with copy/paste bullshit by creating an endless supply of throw-away accounts. The new memberships probably will not completely stop the account market, however; it may decrease the demand by quite a bit and make it less profitable.

Why don't you check that "perma login" option? That way it's just one time nightmare. Plus, most of the times I don't even get all these selection options in Google Captcha. A simple click on the Google Captcha box and it ticks it right away... Isn't it this way for most of you?

Some people share a device and don't want others who use the same device to snoop around, so perma login really isn't a good option. Plus, my understanding is if you clear the cookies, you have to go through picking the storefronts and crosswalks again.

I agree. I am trying to do the searches when I suspect a post. However, many of the more crafty ones are spinning the texts, so a google search doesn't always get a hit. It's been a learning curve.

The fear of certain ban when caught should dissuade anyone from copying or even spinning, and with the increase in banned accounts if like to think majority of defaulters gets caught. That's progress.

I hope so. However, it appears that we may be just playing a game of whack-a-mole. One account gets banned and the account farmer/bounty hunter just turns around and creates more. Also, I suspect that the more sophisticated farmers and hunters will just create better spinning bots.

1424  Economy / Reputation / Re: Account Seller on: November 01, 2018, 04:56:32 AM
Many people can buy/sell accounts out of posting on bitcointalk. Steps should take ASAP:
If there is a way to find out account sellers that could be helpful for the forum. This is my personal thought and also I think developer or coder will do something.

I'm not sure how effective that would be. There are too many personal message apps that can be used, as well as e-mail. There is only so much that a web crawler can do. @TP they are taking forum accounts as collateral. I think I have said more than enough with this.
Sorry but I am not recommending or encouraging account sales.
Actually you do. When someone default, you will have to liquidate account.
Bro, my loan thread is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5030169.0
For few member I keep their account as collateral. Sothat they cant take any other loan or cant make any scam. Anyway, if you think it breaks any rule or it may harm our forum please let me know. I will stop it. I want to say one thing that I do not want to do anything which will be harmful for the forum or any forum member.
Edit:I have edited my terms for collateral. Yet I am waiting for both of your opinion. According to my current rule I will not take account as collateral. But if you think it will not be harmful for forum then I may take account as collateral. Until you response that will remain stopped.

I'm not a default trust member. However, I definitely think account sales are detrimental to this forum. Two major reasons people purchase an account is to either have a higher ranking account to cash in on signature campaigns or to give the impression that they are some reputable member in order to launch a project or engage in commerce. Unfortunately, many of the people who are buying accounts to cash in on signature campaigns fill the threads with low quality posts or even plagiarize. Also, quite a few people who purchase accounts to launch a project or engage in commerce, end up scamming people. The only reason that account selling is not outright disallowed by the forum is because there is no real way to enforce it. People can just take this outside of the forum, (and many do.)
It's really up to you if you want to give people the opportunity to offer their accounts as collateral for loans. On one hand, it will make it easier for you to get customers. On the other hand, it may result in you getting a red tag on your trust rating by some DT members, if you get caught trying to sell an account that you confiscated. However, I know that I always look deeper into a negative trust rating. If I am interested in getting a loan, (which I haven't been yet) I would read the comments in the trust ratings. If I see that you were red tagged for account sales but are already up front that you accept accounts as collateral, It would probably not really discourage me from doing business with you.
1426  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who support newbies - Thanks! on: November 01, 2018, 02:14:56 AM
unless the person giving merit has read every single thread and each post and has foto-graphic memory this will happen .
To find a copy-paste, you don't need to have superhuman abilities, just use search engine adequately.

If someone is copy-pasting responses, then moderators should discover this and ban them. Rather than criticize those doing a largely thankless job, report the post to those being paid to handle the issue so it can be removed and the user banned. We are all needed to keep this forum clean.

I agree. I am trying to do the searches when I suspect a post. However, many of the more crafty ones are spinning the texts, so a google search doesn't always get a hit. It's been a learning curve.

1428  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is this not merit abuse really ? on: October 28, 2018, 05:31:38 PM
@All.

This thread has lost track now. Actually "OP" is created for "dice-bet" abusing merit or probably bought and sold them. Instead of focusing on it, we are distracted to "QA" or in short towards "Merit Source".

Will not like to comment "QA" 30 merits giveaway but somebody dragging "bones261" for just giving 1 merit is unfair.
1. Merit sources are human they can do error to.
2. One Merit is the least amount they can give. If they like some thing, I guess they(or any forum member) can give 1 Merit without any need to defend himself/herself.

Actual problem I see the "Air dropped" smerits, that did not expired. After more than 9 months of the system, some user still have them and they are occasionally using them to promote newbie to Jr. member (might be there own alt accounts) or might be selling also as in suspected in case of Dice-bet.

Meh, on retrospect, I was just being hypersensitive. Now the main irritant for me is merit begging and having to double check posts for copy paste. Cheesy

I'm just posting this here because I think the thread will probably be trashed.

Shame on you.  Angry

You can see, blockchain is one of the hottest tech trends in the world today. However, it is not easy to find the right talent with the prerequisite skills needed for mastering new tools and blockchain technology.
Up works’ skills index – which rates the fastest-growing skills freelancers are adding to their repertoire – blockchain and Bitcoin were the second- and third-fastest growing skills last year. Given that this is a whole new market and required skills, supply will have a hard time keeping up with demand.
Is it one of the challenges that blockchain businesses have to overcome most definitely?

I think it is a shame that I now have to double check for plagiarism before giving out merit. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Lol. Why don't you have this poor soul on ignore like everyone else in this thread?

Good question. Fixed.

I don't use ignore because I always find myself peeking.

I don't lie, I don't know that it can happen exactly the same, i need warning is okay, but i get banned permanently, because i didn't post the same thing, maybe he is the same as me, because the post can be edited, he did post the 15th and I post 18th, as far i know i dont copy paste in the post

It's already been explained to you twice that we know the other person did not edit their post. No warning for plagiarism. You have been expelled.

yes but i dont copy paste, i dont know this post same with me,
or maybe he edit the post and copy paste with my post?,

No, the other person did not edit their post. If he did, the post date would be underlined and when you hover the mouse over it, it would give you the edit time and date. (Unless he edited it within a few minutes. But in order for him to copy you, 3 days would have to pass.)
1433  Other / Meta / Re: Hello Please Help me for My account, on: October 23, 2018, 02:37:44 AM
maybe it's not intentional, I apologize for that, I just need a warning, but why am I banned permanently, please

How is copying someone else's post not "intentional?"  Plagiarism is a serious offense and results in you being permanently banned.

as far as i know, i never copy paste, but i dont know why the post is same,
this is a game?? please unban me please mr, maybe he edit the post same with me

The chances are pretty small that you just happened to type the exact same words as someone else. Especially since it exhibits the exact same bad grammar.  Roll Eyes

You plagiarized Wonder Woman. You're lucky you're still alive.

Ofcourse, cryptocurrency makes changes to the world, specially for those people who are part of it. I saw and heard people who were poor and became wealthy because of cryptocurrency and this changes on this individual people`s life could make impact to the economy, to other people, to the community, and to the society which is all part of this world. So as for me, I think cryptocurrency are changing the world.

1435  Other / Meta / Re: Ban appeal on: October 22, 2018, 03:18:05 AM
Originally, you said that your ban was “probably” due to plagiarism, however at the point at which you are banned are you not given a message with an explanation for why that is the case? Regardless, I’d say we have figured out that to be the case, and I have to say that plagiarism is no small charge. I wonder what you meant by “self-copy”, would you elaborate upon that please?

You’re asking for special treatment, which is unlikely to be the case. As far as I can tell, that is your entire appeal. If I were you, I would lock this thread until you have a better chance to reflect on the situation.

Unfortunately, for this type of ban, the message isn't clear. It just basically states the person has been banned from posting or sending PMs and gives no time frame (since it is permanent.) That's why Meta gets quite a few of these threads a day.
I'm also curious what "self-copy" means. If he has a bunch of alts and is using the same material for sig campaigns, that really isn't on the up and up, IMHO.

I don't know. These word seemed to have been shared quite a bit.

It's very hard to find good ICO bounty campaign nowadays because most of the ICO I've seen is something that is already existing in terms of platform and functionality and they just want to compete with the existing market.

True, its very hard to find good ICO bounty campaign now a days because most of the ICO I've seen is something that is already existing in terms of platform and functionality and they just want to compete with the existing market. For me, a good ICO is unique in platform and functionality, has niche market and specially a good team that we can rely on. I always check this parameters before I join so that I can atleast guarantee profit for my efforts to advertise their ICO.

However, it appears that your post correctly made "now a days" one word. I must admit, I didn't look through your whole post history, though. Was this post originally yours? Is it a translation of one of your posts?

snip

Thanks for clear everything. So I don't think we should highlight merit abuser on future is there isn't strong evidence of merit sale. Obviously spend merit is better than dry it. Especially for merit source. I believe merit source aren't involved with sale or abuse. On the other hand they are doing a job like without salary Wink. However I am going to delete all negative feedback from merit abuser since admin are not encourage.

Perhaps if you disagree with how someone doles out their merits, the proper term is merit carelessness, rather than abuse.(If no financial incentive seems to be tied to it.) I really don't think QA handing out merits in a giveaway on Wall Observer is abuse. Although I do agree it is a bit careless.
1439  Other / Meta / Re: Is there now a "Reason" section in the Ban message on: October 21, 2018, 03:29:44 PM
I'm just curious, is the forum rules post translated in most of the local boards and stickied? I tried to check myself, but gave up since I am a typical American and only understand English. It just seems many of these copy/paste people are people who don't really have much of a command on the English language. I know that I certainly couldn't read and understand all of the rules if they were only written in any other language besides English. Even though I think most would understand that plagiarism is bad, there would be much less excuse if this was spelled out to them in their 1st language.
1440  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is this not merit abuse really ? on: October 21, 2018, 03:08:27 PM

If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me. It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.

If a DT member tags you for something stupid involving merit (ie. probably anything less than selling merit), then they're not going to be a DT member for much longer.

Aside from that, if people complain about whether things deserve merit at all, then that's something to perhaps think about, but if you conclude that they're wrong, then that's that. You don't need to stress about it or defend yourself constantly. It's conceivable that someday you and I will end up disagreeing too much about this stuff and I'll remove your source status, but it's really not a big deal.

The topsendban list is just a first indication of abuse, and many excellent people are on it. Your place on there acts as a sort of benchmark: eg. chandra12 has a similar score there, but whereas you are an extremely active merit-giver with a diverse selection of posts merited (most of which anyone would agree with), chandra12 only has two large merit sends. His behavior in comparison to yours while having a similar topsendban score is what creates a strong abuse impression.

I appreciate the work of you and other sources who take it seriously!

Thank you for the encouraging words. I'll do my best not to fret. It's the curse of an INTP personality type. I'm always second guessing myself.  Smiley
