I have all of the smerits that I can handle at the moment. I certainly don't need 1/120th of all the outstanding unused smerits out there.

Copy and pasting. Accounts aren't unbanned for this.

I don't copy other users posts from this forum.

That may be true. But copy pasting from articles on the internet is just as bad, if not worse.  Grin
1443  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is global warming a scam? on: October 21, 2018, 12:06:23 AM
The global warming hypothesis is a scientific theory, Like all scientific theories, it should be subject to continued scrutiny and testing. There also seems to be overwhelming evidence to support that the hypothesis is indeed correct. Regardless, I think that it is good policy to come up with cleaner and more efficient ways to produce energy, as well as other goods and services. In the short term, it may cause production costs to go up. However, in the long term, these costs will go down and everyone will benefit, even if the global warming hypothesis is incorrect.

Account should be deleted. Probably hacked

Old 2011 account, all posts deleted, , now spamming.

I believe the only newbie with avatar lol

I already reported the offending post to the moderator. Hopefully, they will respond soon.  Cool

No, it is actually a sign that their trolling skills lack finesse. A great troll should take the role of a "concern" troll and let the other side think that you are a good guy who is on their side.  Cheesy

BCH is the real Bitcoin. amirite ?!?? When flippening ?

The latest spin for some BCH supporters is that a super high fiat value is actually detrimental to creating an actual economy. The gist of the argument is that the goal of BCH is to be used by the masses for daily transactions. A high value encourages hoarding rather than spending, which could be detrimental to an economy. Therefore, no flippering is now desired. Please note that my explanation should not be construed as an endorsement of this logic.

hello can i beg for only 1 merit ? ive been looking for 1 and i have 40 plus activity Sad

Pan handling for merits isn't highly regarded. Chances are fair that you will now get red trust. You may have to trash this account and start fresh.  Cheesy

Edit: I just gave you red trust. However, fortunately for you, I am not a DT member.
1447  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is this not merit abuse really ? on: October 20, 2018, 02:38:00 PM
Well, it appears that your source merit either wasn't upped to 250 a month like me, or you are just letting it expire.
Last time I checked, I had 200 per month as a source. Lately, I've managed to empty it on many days, and even got to touch my stockpile of "my own" sMerits. Getting rid of all sMerit is difficult, especially since most of the time I only give 1 Merit.

I don't let much source merit expire. Let's compare the amount of Merit we've sent:
Mine:
Image loading...

Yours:
Image loading...
The graphs show this:
Each column width is 5 days (10 pixels). "Days" start the second the first Merit was transfered, and count exactly 5*3600*24 seconds after that. It has nothing to do with calendar days in any time zone
The maximum is 100 Merit per column (2 pixels per Merit). If more than 100 Merit was transfered in a 5 day period, the top of the column gets darker.
Both graphs look quite similar.

I retract my statement against you. I just glanced at your merit history, originally, and obviously looked at it wrong. (Probably because I am being overly defensive.) I can now see that you are very busy.

Theymos gave me instructions to try and do my best to distribute all of it. I'm doing the best that I can; yet have already had complaints.
It seems different Merit sources have received different instructions depending on when they received them.
Can you share the link to your abuse-thread? I haven't noticed anything wrong with your meriting (but I also didn't look into it).

The thread wasn't originally directed at me. But I was reprimanded none the less. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5031029

I really despise this statistic. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsendban Now I am on the list that appears to point out merit abuse suspects. I was originally very honored to become a merit source. But now I feel that my reputation is at stake with every single merit that I am obligated to distribute.
Not a nice list to be on Sad Do you know who was banned? It's "just" 29 Merit in 180 days, it's very well possible a user received 5 Merit per month from you, and got banned for plagiarism later on.

The bulk of it went to anunymint. He was originally banned for multi-posting. It was turned into a permaban for ban evasion. Since his opinions are very unpopular, and he doesn't take any steps to hide who he is when he tries to return, his new alts eventually get banned. However, he has had stints were his new alt lasted for several months before given the boot. I gave him merit because one can definitely see his posts take a good deal of thought; although with all the links and conspiracy theories, many fall into the category of TLDR.  Cheesy

the most part it is thankless
I disagree: I get to help improve this forum! I get spammers banned, abusers tagged, and contributers merited. That's all the reward I need.

Who's "us" in the statement above? I'm a Merit source, I barely search for posts to merit, but do it anyway when I stumble upon anything worth meriting. I haven't seen anyone attack me on my choices of meriting users.

1449  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is this not merit abuse really ? on: October 20, 2018, 01:27:29 PM
I really don't see the harm done here.
Merit is supposed to stop shitposters from ranking up. "Airdropping" 30% of Full Member onto spamming Newbies just because they posted at the right moment goes against this:
While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

The 30 Merit on higher ranks makes less of a difference than it does for lower ranks.

Well, the last instructions that I was given by theymos was as follows:

~snip

I recommend:
 - If a newbie posts something that could be even called good, then give them 1 merit. It doesn't need to be a great post.
 - It's best to use all of your source merit. If you don't naturally do so, try giving people more merit per post on average. If you don't send your source merit, then nobody gets it, but if you do send it, then the recipient can pass half of it on.

Thanks!

All a shit posting newbie really needs is 1 merit to be back in business. And what pisses me off is that I thought that I was following instructions; yet that very day, someone started a thread in meta complaining about my taste and implying that I was engaged in some kind of "merit abuse." I am really tempted to start adopting QAs approach since it sure beats sifting through thousands of shitposts to try and find a few posts here and there to dole out 2 merits to. This is a great deal of work and for the most part it is thankless. The only gratitude that seems to have come my way is from those shit posting newbies that I happened to merit. I'm not certain about QAs case, but I didn't even raise my hand and ask to be a merit source. I was drafted. And now I know there is a whole troop of people monitoring my every merit transaction just waiting to breath down my neck.
As long as a merit source is not going to benefit monetarily from giving a merit, It isn't merit abuse. Leave us the fuck alone!
1450  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is this not merit abuse really ? on: October 20, 2018, 05:57:15 AM
Not only does this go against everything Merit stands for, it's also totally off-topic, and worst of all: it's a Merit source (#2 most Merit sent) doing this.
Idk about Raja_MBZ, Last of the V8s, xhomerx10 but the other 2 guys don't really deserve 30 merits. The ulrich_zh guy posted "nice" thrice just to get more merits. While its a good thing that QA doesn't spend insane amount of time thinking whether or not he should give 1 merit to a user unlike other <insert other insane merit sources who overthink too much here>, QA shouldn't just shove his merits to hoe's out there. I mean, we get it, you are rich, stop showin' off. We don't want a bitcointalk version of Trump(we already have theymos and cyrus), otherwise before you know it, Stormy Daniels would come here accusing you of sexual merit abuse.

I really don't see the harm done here. It's not like QA was handing out merits to his alt accounts, so he can sell them for more on the open market. Also, @LoyceV the Wall Observer thread has been off-topic for quite sometime. In fact, it is no longer moderated by the staff. It is currently moderated by infofront. But he only deletes some troll posts from time to time.

1452  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: $100 price difference between exchanges ... on: October 20, 2018, 03:57:20 AM
It seems that Bitfinex is in the process of losing its whales with how their cold wallet keeps shrinking. In the last ~45 days Bitfinex's cold wallet shrunk with 100,000BTC, and the outflow of capital isn't even over.

Wow. USD value has fallen from $1.5 billion to $800 million, a fall of $700 million. Meanwhile, Tether's market cap has fallen from $2.8 billion to $2.1 billion, also a fall of $700 million.

Is it possible that Tether was actually backed up by their own cold wallet? And now they are having to empty their cold wallet to pay off Tether?

Either way, with their cold wallet emptying that rapidly and Tether still on the verge of imploding, if I had any coins on Bitfinex I would be moving them out of there ASAP.

One of the reasons Tether's market cap has fallen is that Bitfinex has  recently sent over 600 million Tethers to the Tether treasury wallet. This effectively takes the Tethers out of circulation.
https://www.ccn.com/tether-has-yanked-610-million-out-of-circulation-this-month/
I'm not certain how tether/Bitfinex accounting works. I'm not sure anyone outside their organization really does.

Why Bitfinex website display USD instead of USDT?
Well, if you make a wire deposit of $100 in Bitfinex, you are only credited with 100 USD(T), regardless of what the market value of USDT is at the time. Likewise, if you make a wire withdrawal of $100, your balance is deducted by only 100 USD(T). At least, I think that is how  I think that it works.  Huh At the present time, I'm not sure how easy it is to get a wire withdrawal from Bitfinex. (I'm a minnow American anyway. So they don't want my business at the present time. That is fine with me because I left Bitfinex after they had the hack back in the summer of 2016. Unfortunately, I managed to leave some dust behind. I have like 14 cents usd and about 3000 sats BTC and BCH.)
1453  Other / Meta / Re: What do you need merits for? on: October 20, 2018, 02:35:07 AM

To be honest, I do not quite understand as well. I am grateful for the merits that were given to me, but I genuinely do not understand why so many people are hung up on getting them. They said it was for the signature campaigns, but I guess if you do not have services to offer and are just here to learn cryptocurrency and communicate with other crypto users then it should not matter much? After all, it is not like we can trade them for bitcoins, right?

A higher ranked account usually gets paid more in many signature campaigns. So getting merit could add up to earning more bitcoin. Also, if someone is an account farmer, they can sell higher ranked accounts for more BTC.
1454  Other / Meta / Re: Most merited topics (SUM of OP + posts) on: October 19, 2018, 11:55:36 PM
Wall Observer is a forum on just one topic. It is impressive the amount of merit that is distributed in it, but perfectly understandable. I'm sure that in addition to those who write regularly on there, thousands of others use it as an important source of news and memes in real-time. There are other similar topics on other subjects, mining and alts, but none of them comes close to the importance and quality of the posts on WO.

Although I will agree that many of the posts in Wall Observer are merit worthy, I think one of the contributing factors was that back in March, some regular posters in Wall Observer were made merit sources. I'm not sure how many, but I was one. Here is the message that I got from Theymos when he made me a merit source.

(This PM is being sent to several people.)

Hello. You are now a merit source.

I will be periodically looking through the merit history of sources. If you send a lot of merit to good posts, then I will probably increase your source amount, while if you don't use your source much or use it irresponsibly, it may be reduced or removed. (But don't worry about it too much...)

I picked this batch of sources mainly by looking for ~Legendaries who were not wearing a paid signature. If you actually don't want to be a merit source, let me know.

Several of you post mainly in the Wall Observer thread. I'd encourage you to branch out a bit, such as into the Serious Discussion sections.

Note that there is a bug where whenever you spend your personal stash of sMerit, this also counts against your source for the next 30 days. So if you spent more sMerit in the last 30 days than the source merit I just assigned you, you will already see 0 source merit currently, though it will eventually recover. I will probably fix this at some point, but not soon.

Thanks!

The other contributing factor is that many people who post there were Legenday and were airdropped 500 merits each.
1455  Other / Meta / Re: Can Someone Tell Me why My Account Get Banned? on: October 19, 2018, 05:15:59 AM

My intention not to bother you! I have learned many things today and maybe some rules i didn't know before. However, what does mean by ROI? I will not buy accounts , rather next time i will be back after becoming an english professor! Ban can't take away my love from this forum. Thank You.

ROI means return on investment. Yes, please do go and earn your doctorate in English before attempting to return. (P.S. I hope that you realize that plagiarism is not highly regarded in the higher education circles either.)
1456  Other / Meta / Re: Can Someone Tell Me why My Account Get Banned? on: October 19, 2018, 05:03:26 AM

So, There is no possibility to avoid this ban? Okay i broke a rule, plagiarism! But That doesn't mean i will plagiarism in future. I admitted in a english center to learn accurate english. Please tell me if there have any way. Thank You

There is no possibility that your ban will ever get lifted. Any workarounds that you can come up with will make you guilty of ban evasion.  Perhaps you can get away with it. However, chances are pretty good that you will get caught and banned again. If I were you, I certainly wouldn't invest BTC to buy another account. That will be like money thrown down the toilet. You will likely get caught before you can get an ROI. Perhaps you can earn your satoshis by hitting the faucets instead of bothering us here. Or perhaps you can learn how to trade really well to earn some BTC.
1457  Other / Meta / Re: Merit as Freelance Payment? on: October 18, 2018, 04:42:54 AM
Instead of spamming the forum with nonsense long paragraph of texts, and trying to become look helpful in hope of getting MERIT. Just wondering are you admins allowing people or freelancers to get paid via Merit if the client doesnt have money and can only pay using his Merit? or this will result into an instant ban? Please let us know to avoid violation.

Thank you

This probably won't result in an instant ban if the parties involved are not merit sources. However, it is likely this activity will get noticed by some default trust members who will proceed to red tag the accounts. Merit sources are not allowed to sell merit. I gather this applies to receiving goods and services as well. I'm not certain what the punishment would be for a merit source gone bad. They will likely be subject to having the priviledge stripped from them and get lots of red tags.

I just demoted to Newbie from Jr Member, I have over 100 posts and activities. Any idea what just happened? If the post count is increased, how much are they now?
If you need the ability to post images to make your ANN OP look good, it is best to just purchase a copper membership.
