1841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How high can the transaction fees become? on: November 17, 2023, 05:32:22 PM
or recognize why it happens.

scrypt is the better algo for small sends.

both doge and ltc are dirt cheap to send coins .  and they do it quickly.

The mining algorithm has nothing to do with transaction fees.

yes it does.

sha-256 is setup to mine BTC. btc is 10 blocks an hour

scrypt is setup to merge mine 20 blocks of LTC an hour and 100 blocks of doge an hour.

So  room for 10 blocks of tx fees vs

room for 120 blocks of tx fees

both Algos have LN  service

So scrypt can do 12x the volume of btc

The fact you posted what you posted shows how deep the problem runs as you did not understand my concerns in the least or the reasons I keep writing this.

using btc via sha 256 for cash in small amounts is at a 12x disadvantage to using scrypt LTC/Doge

So rather then complain about high fees lets move on to proper use for

BTC
Large value movement of wealth
Large value storage of wealth

LTC/Doge
small value payments
small value storage.

The solution above would work . At least that is the way I see it.

1842  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is the transfer transaction confirmed within 1 year? on: November 17, 2023, 05:15:53 PM

I use Trezor one cold wallet.
The old segwit address had very low BTC.
We supposedly sent the remaining BTC to the new segwit address.
Mining fees are still very low.
We made the transaction on 11-11-2023.
I think it's at the bottom of the list because the mining fee is so low.
Will this transaction be confirmed in 1-2 years? Grin
If you write your ideas, we will be informed.
Best  regards.

So you are essentially doing an advertisement for scrypt  algo. Since you could have easily sent $1.84 worth of  Either LTC or Doge.

Once again I am not saying this send was a clever way to advertise that scrypt is better for small sends.
I am not saying the poster is a scrypt fan.

But basically this does exactly that.
1843  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Landfill methane to mine Bitcoin on: November 17, 2023, 05:06:10 PM
I don't know if this an American initiative. I haven't read about any gases powering bitcoin miners before what the OP's saying about Utah. I'd say it's a gimmick if they can't power plants specifically to power mining farms. If they're putting turbine power in the grid it's going to be used for commercial and domestic use not only for mining.

Methane, hydrogen, solar, hydro electric they've all been used in the past as options but did the power plants use them?

1000's of  solar megawatts are grid tied in the USA
1844  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How high can the transaction fees become? on: November 17, 2023, 03:50:45 AM
Do you think it's a better idea to move them to a lightning wallet like on electrum for example before the transaction fees get too high? I want to avoid paying a big amount just for one transaction in the main network

The fees are already too high. The best time to open a lightning channel is when fees are low because it requires an on-chain transaction. Lightning is meant for smaller payments so perhaps you shouldn't move your entire cold storage to lightning. I would just open a channel big enough for a few payments and occasionally top it off.

or recognize why it happens.

scrypt is the better algo for small sends.

both doge and ltc are dirt cheap to send coins .  and they do it quickly.

they are not going away .

also so far no action against ordinals. so it appears the powers to be are fine with sending scrapes to ltc/doge for small payments.

no matter what btc does other than adding a viable coin for merge mining btc makes 1 block and ltc doge makes 12 blocks.
1845  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How high can the transaction fees become? on: November 17, 2023, 03:34:35 AM
well my sha gear is happy. blocks are about 8 coins to 8.5 coins.

A 25% markup.

and as I explained time and time again this can’t be done every day for ever but it can easily be done for one week  of every 13.

It will back off by monday or tuesday.

then fire up again.
1846  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Stuck in mempool @ 17.9 for 2 weeks on: November 17, 2023, 03:26:18 AM
I tried to check the TXID you provided above the transaction was made 2 weeks ago and the transaction was already rejected by other nodes so you should be able to recreate a new transaction I don't think CPFP will work you need to contact the sender Mia if the sent amount is already rejected or if it's funded back to her account. Ask her to make a new transaction once again with enough fee if it was already rejected.
He should let ViaBTC mine a block and the transaction would be confirmed.

I was unable to check it from blockchair.com, but I saw it on https://www.blockchain.com/explorer and https://blockstream.info.

https://blockstream.info/tx/3fc2ebf7dd2ce21a8b7a68545942c0d1b8f0f141f8a4c91865031eb65a5e4209
https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/transactions/btc/3fc2ebf7dd2ce21a8b7a68545942c0d1b8f0f141f8a4c91865031eb65a5e4209

Which means it has not been dropped from nodes of some mempool and also not displayed to be invalid on ViaBTC accelerator and can still be confirmed and it will not take up to 4 to 5 hours before ViaBTC will mine the next block.

The mempool is over 170 sat/vbyte and not worth to rebroadcast the coins. Also the sender's wallet is not his, although I doubt if it is from a custodial wallet as it is of low fee and also supporting replace-by-fee.

Edit:
ViaBTC mined block 817095 and the transaction has been confirmed.

you did good work. at op try to get a trezor.io wallet hardware and use rbf to fix issues.
1847  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: November 16, 2023, 11:39:04 PM
They could have 9 slot controllers
check out an old manual on the s5

It could be, but I don't know, I think the cost for such a setup would be pretty high, especially with the new hash boards that use busbars that need to click-tight to obtain proper voltage, the hash boards can't be just hanging in free air, so the rack/mount that holds them needs to carefully designed, but ya, Bitmain folks are smart, am sure they would have figure a way to safely abused new gears and still sell them as brand new, I just highly doubt it's as simple as many people think, as in, they don't just put the whole miner as is and then dust it off and send it, they would have been caught a long time ago if they did that.

I have seen what vms built to run air s19's in liquid coolers. Special racks to slide in boards   no fans special psu. Special controller it did 3 boards.

Very nice design which I agreed not to describe much or photo.

You could easy peasy have an s19 put in this clever cooler setup. unit for 2 months pull it out  dip clean it and then move the boards into the oem shell of the s19.

or in the case we are talking about do this with s21's .

what is the labor to pull 3 boards and put into the new cooler a kid with fast hands and good eyes could do it in 20 min.  two months later clean it dry and set it up to ship in 40 min

So 1 hour maybe 90 minutes over a 2 month time slot.

If Bitmain sold 10000 pieces to a big farm they may know this and prefer since the gear won't be a dud.
1848  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 16, 2023, 10:38:36 PM
The Bitcoin monthly and weekly charts are still looking incredibly bullish. I just see higher and higher lows. Someone is snatching up all the BTC… I think we gap back up to test $38K in the next couple of days. Must resist the urge to take profits…

Maybe I should cash it all and be done.
1849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Is bigger block capacity still a taboo? on: November 16, 2023, 10:07:02 PM
Neither in favor, nor against.

Bigger blocks pros:
- Less congestion.

Bigger blocks cons:
- More time required for verification (right as well as storage requirement).
- Mining becomes less competitive.

I agree, though, that even lightning is getting expensive to work with 4 MB block size limit (and there isn't a lot of demand for lightning yet).

Good post.

now sha-256  btc 10 blocks in 1 hour  plus LN

and scrypt doge/LTC 120 blocks in 1 hour plus LN

this is a constant.

Sha-256 miners earn about 32,400,000 in rewards daily plus whatever the fees are.
scrypt miners earn about 1,200,000 in rewards daily plus what ever the fees are.

btw this conflict will always make LTC/Doge look to jack BTC fees to attract customers.

This dynamic is a driving force for btc fees to get jacked.

I can see six or seven angles here not sure where we go to down the road.
1850  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: November 16, 2023, 09:19:30 PM
TLDR
The grid is in shambles, expect power cuts, doom is near, and this winter will be ten times worse
Of course, I started from the assumption that 90% of the article is bs but even the tiniest how do they call them, "voluntarily paid shutdown" ?, of one of the big guys would probably be enough to put a dent in the growth, temporarily, as we saw it in summer.

There is something not right about this winter, today I had to turn the AC on (on cold) because it was a bit hot, usually around this time of the year it's actually pretty cold, not too cold whereby you need to run AC on hot, but you would need to at least where long sleeves and use a blanket at night, looks like we are going to have a warm winter, not sure how things are on the other side of the planet.

I would bet it on Bitmain "testing" gear before shipping

So ja, methinks it was BM running a burn-in of them before packing them up and putting them on the boat to here. That has to be several containers worth I'd think...

I see I don't claim Bitmain won't do such a thing, they are dirty enough to sell used gears as new, and this "theory" has been there for many years, however, I find it technically difficult to implement, am sure the two of you as everyone else in this section have had brand new gears before, brand new gears are just different, heck, even the smell is different before they start running for the first time.

I mean, running gear for a while and then selling it as brand new to someone who knows a lot about miners isn't going to be an easy task, I have a habit of disassembling some brand new gear when I first receive them (because I know I can't send them back for warranty claim if they arrive DOA), and those gears look sparkling new, running them for a few days will most certainly put a mark on them.

Not saying it's impossible, but if they do it, then they need to run those gears in a super clean environment, like server room grade, but then again they need to add that "fresh plastic/solder" smell.

Have there been any incidents where someone reported receiving gears that they at least "doubt" the brand-new claim? since the lawsuit against bitmain for having their pool by default in all brand new miners (I think around 2018-2019) all of their miners come without a default pool, out of the millions of gears they have sold ever since, have they not missed removing the trails of at least a few miners?

Or maybe they have a way of using the hashboards before assembling them in the miner, like a huge hashboard-rack where they can abuse the hashboards before going into the final assembly? that way they can clean them and put them in fresh miners with brand new fans where everything including the screws would look as if they have not been used before?

They could have 9 slot controllers

check out an old manual on the s5

https://bitmain-usa.com/storage/2023/08/Antminer-S5-user-guide1.pdf

can do 9 boards.

So yeah they can burn test the boards for a month.

The dip the boards in some cleaners. then pack in new 3 board cases.
1851  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about Bitcoin network spammer on: November 16, 2023, 06:05:53 PM
Yes, I can check them and save them in JPG. In the end, my jpg file and paid NTF will be exactly the same in pixels. I just googled and 29,983 people paid a sum of $91 800 000 in The Merge NFT.
Like the old adage goes, "A fool and his money are soon parted"

I don't really give a damn about how the gullible ordinal or BRC20 battalion spend their Bitcoins. The issue is, they are making it harder for an average person to use and maintain the Bitcoin network. Yes, miners are happy but for how long if most regular user stop using bitcoin and opt for centralized shitcoin networks like BNB.

As an example, I have not used Ethereum network for a long time now and to this date I don't even think of it, but at the beginning I actually liked the smart contract nature of Ethereum network and used it regularly as an average user.

Look at it as enforced savings. You don't want to move your BTC to buy something since it costs so much in TX fess so you don't spend it. More for you later :-)

But, seriously. This too shall pass. No idea when, but sooner or later the 'next big thing' in crypto will appear and BRC20 will stop being used and fees will drop and things will get back to normal. Next week? Next month? Next year? No idea, but it will happen.

-Dave

and those that want the higher fees will find a new method to jack the fees up.

High fees will come back time and time and time again.

one reason is scrypt has a vested interest in high btc fees. So they mine 1.2 million in coin a day.

give them 100 days and they can jack fees on the btc chain for a while.  which in turn makes ltc/ doge look better.

Basically it is like an advertisement for ltc and doge.

So if 120 million gets mined spending 1 million to promote ltc/doge every 100 days is worth it.

obviously it does not have to be every 100 days it could be every 200 days.
1852  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Frequency and Voltage guide for 2 PSU whatsminer overclocking on: November 16, 2023, 02:01:47 PM
I have a whatsminer MS30. I scrapped a Core Scientific DL SeKU-2R5S12 power supply with an input of 100-240VAC 50/60Hz 15A max and an output of 13.2Vdc/184A @230Vac 13.2 Vdc/116A@120Vac. I made a new board out of aluminum with the leftmost connection between the board and the power supply cut off (the one that looks like an L) and connected that one to my power supply, as detailed here:
https://bixbit.io/en/documentation/connecting-an-additional-power-supply-unit/2-the-connection-procedure-of-the-additional-power-supply-unit .
On startup, I am able to get it to about 100 TH until  it seems to overheat and I get error code 5050. The new PSU is connected to only one hashboard.

So you commoned the ground from both psu's.

how long do you run at 100th vs say 90th or 85th.

It could simply be too much energy and unable to cool.

also how hot do chips get.

if you run for 10 or 20 minutes you just may be over heating
1853  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: History of garage mining in Russia on: November 16, 2023, 01:55:44 PM
They ^^ should have moved the body away from the power lines but left it up there as a stark warning to others and to showcase how stupid the thief was....

yeah. your life for under $100 in cable seems like a bad deal to me.
1854  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Where to place my miners? on: November 16, 2023, 01:32:04 PM
If you have a m30 or a m50 whatsminer they like 230 volts

If you have an s19 model antminer they like filtered air and dry air.

If you can keep temps for intake at 15-25c for the cold isle.

And the hot side/isle under 40c

It is very important to have separation of hot and cold isles as the mine grows. with 2 miners and a big space it is less important.
1855  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary Members Spread Completely Fake Information - Merit System Do Not Work on: November 16, 2023, 01:00:07 PM
At learn bitcoin he was dissing badecker. Baddecker has a lot of real merits.

As you can see, I meant it for the legendaries who did not earn many merits in their forum life. I was giving him an Idea that even though they are Legendary members, it does not mean all of them are knowledgeable enough. I have seen a lot of Legendary accounts that failed to earn 100 merits in the last five years. They have lower credibility than a Full member who earned 100 Merits in the new era.

Now, if you talk about Badecker, he has earned around 355 merits after the air-dropped merits. Now, look at the number of posts he made in this forum. It's almost 40K. Earning 355 merits against nearly 40K posts is not too much. I am going to hit 1600 Posts this week, and I have earned almost 500 merits, and I still think sometimes I write shit.

Well BaDdecker is crazy as they come. I am not quite sure if he is real or more like Steve Colbert was on his older show. A left wing playing a right wing.
1856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Raspi 4 for Bitcoin Node: Still Compatible? on: November 16, 2023, 12:57:21 PM
wants a fan so it is not silent
maxes at 8gb ram
I know.
They will probably release Raspberry Pi500 with huge silent cooler, something similar exist already for RPi400.
Even with good silent fan it is probably going to be more silent than regular computer.

but $159  and you need a bigger sd stick
It's not cheap, but it's cool and small.
For people who want something stronger I would suggest used Thinkpad laptop T series, they are built like tanks, but they are not loud Wink

In addition, Intel NUC has been discontinued anyway. See https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/11/23790956/intel-nuc-compact-pc-discontinued. So anyone who buy it will get leftover stock and probably limited support in future.
You can find a bunch of used NAC devices everywhere, and you don't need latest processors for Bitcoin node.
I tested one few years ago, but it was a bit more loud for my taste.

Simply not a fan of the rasp pi gear.  Not that I have not owned every model except the 5. I used them for nodes I used them with Avalon's back in the day. I used them for LN. I simply do not care for the product as I feel it's just not enough processor/ram/storage.

I do like the tiny models from dell hp and Lenovo. even Mac minis until they made their own chips design in 2020.

lastly I have been getting used laptops for the last few years which I think are the best choice.
1857  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic JPEGS System on: November 16, 2023, 12:47:51 PM
miners should be doing okay nowadays, right ? Grin

Not as well as you may think. 8.48 cents a th  which is better than 5.97 cents a th but the ½ ing looms closer and closer.

That 8.48 cents becomes 4.25 cents at the ½ ing which is a disaster.
1858  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to roll-back Ordinals? on: November 16, 2023, 03:57:53 AM
wow guys this thread really devolved in to alot of bickering and drama.  Shocked kind of like it always does when ordinals is being discussed.

TBH I've put franknbeans on ignore; that way I'm not tempted to respond to him, even though I still end up talking about him  Cheesy it is indeed a minor shame

Dozens - perhaps even hundreds - of threads have been derailed by him over the years. Whenever he posts, discussion usually devolves back to the same tired blocksize debate and completely away from the topic at hand.

To get things back on topic, fees are totally fricken out of control at the moment, JFC.

well at least I am getting some bigger fees. I think the high fee issue is never going away.

I will just repeat over and over.

And that (fire) is exactly what happens when folks who have no idea what they are doing try to DIY high power electrical circuits....
I DO hope they've learned a lesson (though I also doubt it...).

Nah they will gamble and play Russian Roulette with the circuit breakers.

It is the nature of people. Not Just Russians.
