2001  Other / Meta / Re: So I had a person send me a pm to beg for merits. on: November 13, 2023, 04:06:35 PM
My take: a new person wouldn't ask for Merit. Why would he care? And why would he ask you?

I agree with you on that, because how can a newbie know who @philipma1957 is to go straight and ask for merit? That's just an indication that it might be one of those merit or account farmers. If it's so then that account need to be monitored until proven otherwise.

Philipma post a lot on daily basis as regular posting habits. He is easy to notice if you are regularly browsing on mining board and wall observer thread. Probably this user is just trying his luck on asking merit to Philipma since he seems so approachable and friendly on most of his post.

We are not sure too if this user only ask to Philipma or to other user too with high merit count.

I usually sound like a soft touch most of the time. But I am not really that soft. If anything I have seen so much here on bitcointalk I am tired of repeated cons.

This just happened to be the first person to ask for free merits in a pm.

Hell I have had a lot of shit asked of me in pm's. Just never had someone ask this.

locked thread and gave all posters 1 merit for each post they made.

Congrats Phil for ousting theymos as BPIP's #1 Most Recognized

Saving it here b/c it might not last forever, e.g. when theymos goes back to DT1.

Didn't even know about bpip.org!  Thanks for posting, interesting info on all of us over there.

thanks.  yeah my compulsive posting is good for something.

I think I have been ahead of him a few times now and then.

I likely overtook him due to being in the signature campaign as I am posting 20-25 times a day in 7 or 8 sections for the last 2 months.

Rather than 10-15 times a day in 3 or 4 sections.
2003  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: testing epic controller. on antminer s19xp on: November 13, 2023, 02:58:44 PM
What was the best performance you managed to get on the S19xp?

The base model is announced as 141T with 3031W. How long were you able to reduce your W?

basically the epic board on my 134th models does not increase efficiency at all.

but it does lower fan speeds so if you are a home miner in you garage you can drop watts to about 2500 and do about 120th with fans at 60%

So I recommend it if you want to make the miner quiet.
2004  Other / Serious discussion / Re: litecoin displayed a little more prominent on: November 13, 2023, 04:00:28 AM
I generally think that the crypto world needs at least 2 or 3 strong decentralized chains (i.e. not managed by a closed team which premined or instamined most of them or sold them in an ICO) apart from Bitcoin.

Currently Litecoin, Dogecoin and Monero are the most prominent ones. And as Litecoin is easier to use than Monero, and is not as hypervolatile (and Musk-dependant) as Doge, I support the notion that it is sort of "underrated". Even if it is used quite a lot actually.

There used to be Dash but it has lost ground and also its decentralization is less marked. I think the current best contender to complement BTC, LTC, DOGE and XMR is Kaspa but its launch wasn't as fair as LTCs (more comparable to Dash) and thus the centralization dangers are higher.

I do Btc,Ltc,Doge I mine them hold them and use them for transactions.

Shit now only 97 years left 😪 Grin

okay that was funny. some merits for you.
2006  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how/why is this tx stuck??? on: November 13, 2023, 03:51:18 AM
If you can not wait, use Replace-by-Fee to bump its fee rate to a higher one like 61-62 sat/vbyte but I see it is not necessary with me.
His transaction doesn't support RBF feature, @OP need to learn for choosing a wallet that support RBF e.g. Electrum or Bluewallet Bitcoin open source wallets that support replace-by-fee (RBF)

In future, you can look at mempools before broadcasting your transaction.
Looking at the input, it seems he withdraw his coins from centralized exchange, since CEX has a fixed fee, it will not help anything if he check the mempool.

yeah he could have gotten stuck bigly but only 2 inputs kept the size small enough and the 44 sats per v/b were big enough.

At op buy yourself a trezor and keep the rbf feature active.

also consolidated inputs done when fees are low helps a lot.

happy to have fixed it for you.
2007  Economy / Economics / Re: Will people ever get tired of trading bitcoin? on: November 13, 2023, 03:00:48 AM
These trading rules were developed by the economics genius Pareto, and they remain just as applicable today as they did then. Now when we're talking about bitcoin, it's an absolutely intriguing topic. Bitcoin is a game-changer, a disruptor, and it's here to dominate

The best trades are those that benefit both parties equally and in which no one loses, correct? Everyone adores and desires them. However, as you correctly pointed out, bitcoin belongs in category 4. The game is a zero-sum one. Someone has to lose in order for someone to gain. But this is when things start to get interesting. Bitcoin's strongest suit is its limited quantity. Its uniqueness and importance come from this.

When the quantity of bitcoin runs out, will people start looking for substitutes? Most likely. But keep in mind that Bitcoin has become the benchmark for cryptocurrencies. It is comparable to the dollar in the digital age. People have faith in it and trust it. Additionally, value exists as long as there is confidence. As you correctly stated, the market finds its equilibrium. While people's preferences fluctuate and utilities differ, bitcoin is one thing that never changes. The future is here, and it's a good on

Yeah but it is not exactly true.

I mine a btc. I spent 10,000 to do it. So I traded 10,000 in power cost to get the coin.

I sell it to you for 20,000  I made 10,000. I win.
You get it at 20,000 and sell it for 37,000 today you win.

So win -  win.

My reasoning is first trade is the mining  cost for the coin.

Why would that not count a  win for me and a neutral for the power company. Or am I not understanding the theory here.

2008  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how/why is this tx stuck??? on: November 13, 2023, 02:43:49 AM
thanks a lot guys.. does anyone have an estimate of how long it will take? its really urgent
It was confirmed already.

In future, you can look at mempools before broadcasting your transaction. You can use Replace by Fee when you want to bump the fee.

You can submit your transaction to viabtc transaction accelerator like phillipma wrote. That transaction accelerator accepts transactions with fee rate from 10 sat/vbyte and higher. Your transaction has a good fee rate to use that free tool. They are one of biggest mining pools and they will add your transaction to a block found by their mining pool.

yeah I think his got in

https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/blocks/btc?page=1

https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/blocks/btc/816547

at op I gave you a merit as you continued to follow up and were polite.

that was a viabtc block so likely the accelerator tool saved the day for you.
2009  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: November 13, 2023, 02:40:53 AM
Yes, please send it to Talkimage donation address, also I won another price prediction contest in the German section (I asked for the prize to be sent to Talkimage/joker_josue to help maintain the great service).

Thank you again Phill for yet another fun round.

Thank you for your support! It was much appreciated, and will certainly be very useful.

use 12 sats as I am testing viabtc acceleration service out.

What service is this? Is it just for miners in the pool or for anyone?

it is a free service with some limits.

the tx needs to be 1 or 2 combined thus under 500bytes

and the fee needs to be large enough  about 22 sats /vb or 11 sats / b

this is why it is good to consolidate when fees are low.

if you do 8 into 1 at 3 sats  you may be able to do an important send later at 22/sats I just help a guy out with it.

wait for link

2010  Economy / Speculation / Re: This bullish momentum - Breaking through the $35,000 mark on: November 13, 2023, 01:56:21 AM
Were they anticipating it or were they all surprised how those previous weeks turned out? I wonder if anybody actually anticipated that Bitcoin would leap more than $10,000 in just a month's time. That probably caught a lot by surprise. That wasn't normal. Despite Bitcoin's volatility, nobody would have anticipated that it would grow that much in so short a time. That notwithstanding the fact that an approval of a Bitcoin spot ETF by the SEC is not yet announced.

I have been saying 42k by nov 30 - dec 1. and 48k by dec 31 - jan 1

some jan profit taking down to 40k and a slow up tick grind toward the ½ ing in late march early april
2011  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how/why is this tx stuck??? on: November 13, 2023, 01:21:33 AM
It has a high fee and has been stuck for hours.. Can anyone help

cce38759047ad19b47c77e648cf4507e50c03e4d28bd7d37e67b4dc0766b2064

you got lucky I was able to get your transaction in on

https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator

no cost. your fee was high enough. and the tx did not have a lot of bytes,

you will get confirmed once viabtc makes a block or two.
2012  Other / Meta / Re: So I had a person send me a pm to beg for merits. on: November 13, 2023, 01:16:41 AM

If anyone asks me for merits, I will certainly go to his profile and see if such deserves it or not. Giving a few to a person truly deserving of it is never a bad idea. Afterall, the merit system is not perfect.

Those who do this are probably newbies, I will do the same, I know the feeling of coming out with what you think are good posts but not getting the merits they deserve, if there are really good posts then I will give them, if I have merits but I will also warn them that about begging for merits and sending unsolicited messages could harm their account, he may not aware or missed about these rules and this will harm his account.
Maybe this newbie will become a good and reputable member of this forum if given the right guidance coming from higher-ranking members.

The hardest thing is sorting newbies from farmers.

This particular guy that posted may be a newbie and not a farmer 🧑‍🌾 so I tried making a thread that would help him and not hurt him.

well at least he has a chance to get better.
2013  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 13, 2023, 01:11:21 AM
buddy I am thanking you for sideways movement better than a drop.
2014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do not get scammed by this, specially newcomers. on: November 12, 2023, 06:46:43 PM
Okay to recover scammed or stolen coins is really really really hard to do.

You need a decent amount of stolen coin to start.
You then need to trace where it goes.
A good thief will simply move it to an account and let it sit a long long long long time.

If the theft is big enough a good thief may  create a mixing service to be sure the mixer he uses is not run by a government agency to catch thieves.

So for someone to claim they can catch the thief is almost always a con 99%.
2015  Other / Meta / Re: So I had a person send me a pm to beg for merits. on: November 12, 2023, 06:41:08 PM
The person did not offer money. They just asked for some free merit.

So a how to report this?

Am I required to report it?

Haha Grin Haha Grin buy merit from you! Grin Grin

He may not know what you can do to him!  Grin Grin Grin

It is why I kind of wanted to be nice and not tear him up.  I do wish you could know if he is a single new person or a farmer with 5 accounts.
2016  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 12, 2023, 06:38:31 PM
buddy deserves credit for these daily grinding moves. another 37K in the books.
2017  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: November 12, 2023, 06:31:59 PM
sent the 0.001 btc and fees are nuts I am playing around trying to see how long it will take to show.

e5912b8219c010d1ecc2340f36967d853a59027b5c9f884f21aeea0dc0e2b4c5

use 12 sats as I am testing viabtc acceleration service out.

I will be passing on the game for a few rounds as sending prizes may be too hard to do for a while.

So that was rejected by viabtc's tool

c81fa2789ab0984a999e1e83bf6c98e796e952ee1e37939ca946fc48bcf28668

this was accepted.  it appears they altered the rules enough that  your fee is at least 0.0001 and must be under 500 bytes

so this will get through at about 69 sats/b  and about  0.000101 btc total fee

which is a lot for a 37 dollar send.

I did not mind doing this high fee as I was trying to understand the new viabtc rules for free accelerator.

I am still not sure I did the lowest I could have. I will play with it later.

to be sure I fully understand the rules.

So it confirmed quickly but I am still not sure exactly how new rules work for free tool use.

12 sats per b was too small

71 sats per b was good.

the send was  figured a bit weird but I think I understand

I did 71 sat per vb as set on my trezor

that comes to 44.9 sat per b

so I could do about 35 sat per vb and it would work .

I will play some per with it.

at 2014 blocks mikeywith has a good lead.

biffa is the only one that can catch he and we would need some really long block times for this to happen.

2019  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Crypto market will top when we see ‘how do I mine BTC on my laptop’ posts here on: November 12, 2023, 04:10:57 PM
On the contrary, I see a big decrease in activity in mining communities, because video cards are not profitable, and ASIC mining is not suitable for all home miners.
And now there is already a lot of information that Bitcoin mining is simply unprofitable on any equipment except modern ASICs.
Stupid questions will arise when Bitcoin approaches the price of 60,000 dollars.

which will not be an ending indicator as 60k is too low for asics once the ½ ing comes.

the best btc miner is the s21 it will need 85 kwatts a day.

it is earning 16 a day today
and if the ½ ing  happens today it earns 8 a day.

so at 10 cent power todays price is okay and at the ½ not okay.

so we need to be at 74k for a ten cent power price to make money.

I start to see a lot of questions when 20 cent power works. we are no where near that.
2020  Other / Meta / Re: So I had a person send me a pm to beg for merits. on: November 12, 2023, 02:42:18 PM
I have the same case received a PM from a newbie asking for merit I just ignored them but I give sometimes if the thread or the post he made is helpful.

Why not tell us the username of who PM you?
I'm sure after he read all the posts here he would stop begging for merit.

I will keep an eye on what he does maybe he learns.
