I am grateful that there is a signature campaign as it is helping me out during this tight time for mining.

Yeah BTC and bitcointalk has been quite a trip for myself.
2142  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Using a Credit Card Demonstrate Financial Literacy? on: November 07, 2023, 06:36:58 PM
I don't have credit card but I use pay later services on ecom sites because with this payment method returns are faster, I pay the accured amount before the due date, it increases my credit score which is extra bonus, I find nothing wrong with it despite in past myself despising credit cards.

Whether literate or otherwise, credit cards are fine as long you pay on time. It might be hard to do so for CC addicts, hence may be financial advisors recommend using cash for payments.

The key 🔑 is if you have proper discipline. CC can make you lots of money 💰 in rebates etc.

Or cost you lots of money if you are an addict.

@philipma1957, good news for all those who want to return to their youth - and just when the "medicine" is on the market, all long-term bitcoiners will be able to afford it Wink

A new therapeutic developed from compounds found in pig’s blood can reverse the age of rats, researchers claim in a new study.
The anti-ageing therapeutic – dubbed E5 – was developed from the blood of a young pig and injected into ageing rats, according to a new study published recently in the journal GeroScience.
E5, which consists of complex nanoparticles and young plasma sourced from pigs, could reverse the biological clocks of the rats by nearly 70 per cent on average, said researchers, including those from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
If the results can be translated to humans, it could mean the reversion of an 80-year-old to the age of 26, scientists claimed.

I really hope to start to see this finally on real life, but im reading and seeing this in the news from the early 2000 but no ones has reached the market yet.

Imagine this is true and fully available, are we prepared to live much more longer? With all of our beliefs changing so fast in this new era? I think we are gonna hit a big wall about mental health, and we gonna ended pray to die. (Yes i know this sound really fatalistic, but im talking about a hipotetical case and in a philosopical way.)

If my wife and I could age backwards from 66/67 to 26/27 in 1 year we would sign up for it.

But if they make you do it over and over and over it would not be so fine. Maybe 9 times like a cat's so called life.
2144  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: November 07, 2023, 03:59:38 PM
It seems like it won't go beyond +3%. But it shouldn't reach 4% either.
Therefore, we will certainly have a winner between Biffa, Mikeywith, Warfare or Greyhats.

We'll see, good luck to everyone.

Nop, too early to judge the pace, we are only half way into the epoch, the current pace is not an exact representation of the hashrate but rather a combination of that + luck, so luck alone is enough to change the current figure, let alone more gears going online/offline.

You could only be somewhat sure of a certain range when say 90-95% of blocks are done with, because then the weight of the left blocks will be pretty small, but with over 1k blocks ahead, we could easily go to 5% or 6%.
we could go as low as 2% or maybe as high as 6.5%
2145  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 07, 2023, 01:22:36 PM
Pro tip: Don't bet on it.

Don't bet, period. Gambling is for losers.

betting is fine. just do not bet at the wrong odds ie gambling.

If you mine at a pooling you are making a favorable bet if

A) your power is cheap
B) your gear is cheap
C) you have someone to repair the gear.

So you are investing with that bet.
but if you mine at a solo pool with a high cost of hash you are gambling with that bet.
2146  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: how many sha256 hashes can a consumer-grade CPU compute per second in average? on: November 07, 2023, 01:17:54 PM
A long time ago, the Bitcoin mining hash rate on a CPU was up to 3 MH/s, and up to 1 GH/s on a GPU. They may be somewhat higher now, but still the same order of magnitude.

Here is a chart: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Non-specialized_hardware_comparison

Core i5 2500K   4/4   20.6mh from your chart is accurate as I used to mine just a tiny bit with an i5 2500  on the pool bitminter back in 2012

2148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People are too focused on history repeating itself on: November 07, 2023, 05:14:26 AM
I can't say much about the past Bitcoin bear market but I was present and aware of the 2018 bear market and also it's bull market, the black swan event that happened in 2020 was because of CoVID, and no one was expecting this to happen, Bitcoin was slowly on it's way to recovery in 2019 November and December until 2020 hits hard.
The global coronavirus pandemic has left its mark, but people are behaving as they do in situations of fear. They want maximum security and prepare for it as best they can, and in this situation they didnt believe in Bitcoin, which is strange. The selling of Bitcoin and on that one day in March 2020, Bitcoin go down about -35%. What Im trying to say is that people are not going to change, they often act the same and thats why I think history is repeating itself. Quite simply.

Sheeple are going to sheep bro.

But I think the big money boys are going to push BTC super high have the sheeple fomo in and bust them wide open.

This time we will do some really high number and some really big drops.

up to 500k back down to 75k
2149  Other / Meta / Re: Signature campaign as a creation of bitcointalk on: November 07, 2023, 04:30:58 AM
I'm an old forum user, I've been using forums for over 20 years, and most of them were about gaming, electronics and hardware/PC forums
Several forums have died, but there are still 3 that are active and I still participate, apart from here of course

Bitcointalk is unique in that sense, no forum I've been on has used a signature campaign system or anything close to it
The ones that are active today certainly wouldn't accept such a system, since they are more "centralized", and the forum owners wouldn't gain anything from it.
The forums are making money from advertising and also from commission links, and on these forums you can't even mention or refer stores that aren't in their commission system, they delete your post and you can be banned

It seems that this system only works well here because of the freedom we have and if you think about it, it works very well here, usually the community helps each other if there are problems, or if a scam appears, with the merits, DTs, trust etc

I am like you.

parts-express
andantech
macrumors
macmini 123

all did not let you sell your signature.
I made thousands of posts on those forums. maybe 15000 on them.

I did a lot of mac mini sales on mac mini 123.
a few sales on andantech.

I don’t do a lot of signature work here. maybe 2 years out of  11. But it comes in handy if you get a bit tight on cash.

2152  Economy / Speculation / Re: back in 2015 we had a nice pre 1/2 ing streak. on: November 07, 2023, 02:56:04 AM
I read/heard somewhere that an internal memo was leaked from Blackrock who would
advise that their clients should have something like 83.5% of their portfolio in Bitcoin or maybe "crypto"?!

If that is the case any coins sold at $500k would be snapped up and never seen again
for a very long time all depending on an ETF approval of course.

There are a lot of reports out there some conjured up to make sales etc. but I definitely
think there is massive demand for Bitcoin from those who want an asset manager to look
after it for them and who have no interest in buying a Trezor and minding their seed phrase!

So that alone should fuel philipma1957's projection to $500k regardless of the 2015 comparison.

I have a feeling we may soar far more then the 100-145K

I even think maybe 500k is low so I am pushing very hard at this for now.

I am glad to see a few are thinking what I am thinking.

2154  Economy / Speculation / Re: back in 2015 we had a nice pre 1/2 ing streak. on: November 06, 2023, 02:05:48 PM
If we shot to 500k like I say by Dec 31 2025.

The first blocks that have been sitting for over 13 years should get movement.

If they don’t I would be very surprised.

I would think there are over 1,000,000 pre 2011 coins untouched

at 500,000 a coin that is more than 500 billion dollars.

I would think maybe 5% would sell off.

We can only speculate about that, although only then we will see how much BTC was actually lost in the first years, but I still think that there are a lot more than 1 million BTC that may be waiting for the right moment to enter the market if we take into account the speculation that Satoshi mined around 1 million BTC by himself. Also, in the first reward era, the reward was 50 BTC per block, which means that 50% of all BTC was mined in the first 4 years.

Of course, we should not doubt that these long-term holders are not intelligent people who will not exclusively use CEX, but will look for some other methods such as OTC or DEX in order to prevent the influence on the price.

Yeah lets say you have an addy with 100 coins which become 500k each.

This addy is worth 50 million. Wealthy people could cut deals off the books. Hey Joe give me an addy send the 100 coins. New guy has the coins and deal is done. This would not hurt the price at all.

I can testify to this ten years is not much time. Neither is 20 years.

Same as me, time flies so fast; it could look like there are a lot of years yet to come, but before one knows it, the person will just realize that the 10 years have already been reached or even exhausted.

Quote
If you invest at 18 and hodl the investment 20 years you will usually do okay.

Yeah, that's true. One pastor was given a sermon one Sunday, and he was talking about "the benefits to sow early." Then he talks about a stock he invested on when he was yet 18 years old, and after 20 years, the profit he got from that investment was able to build him a house.

That's to say, investing on time and holding for a long time is very beneficial, and also, if someone invests very early, like at the age of 18 or more, at that time, the person is  not yet open to a lot of responsibility because they might still have some guardian who is yet providing for their needs, and as such, they will only have little responsibility.

yeah i was such a mess at 18. no clue 🕵️‍♀️  about long term hodl.

I finally was able to make a good gain with doge 1000 became about 85000 with a long mine and hodl.

No negative? So bullish are we? Or is this bearish in earnings?

negative what?  Cheesy

Looking at this year's adjustment we had 6 negatives vs 17 positives, so roughly 25% negative adjustments vs 75%, despite being in more of a not-so-steep downtrend, given that price is up 20% from the year's average -- negative adjustment it will be extremely unlikely, in fact, I think this time we could have the longest streak of positive adjustments, one which we have not seen for years.

Maybe but I'm a bit unsure about this, all it takes is some shenanigans and one company realizing they are losing money with no hope in sight to wipe off enough that we go under zero, the mining business is less fragmented and just one player could heavily influence the market, and despite their expansions plans and cheap energy a ton of them are still all in red and running on borrowed money.
One or two adjustments being positive yeah maybe with smaller increments, a record-breaking pace, I don't see it.

And speaking of 2022, that period was still galloping on high income per th/s,  the year started with 23 cents/th right now even with the price increase we're pinned well below that value, we would need another 30% up on what now just to cross 10.
I'm bearish long-term on expansion and even if I got this wrong I'm grabbing some popcorn to what's going to happen once the halving is here!
12 adjustment to go till it if my math is right!

Quite remarkable. means a lot of gear was waiting off line in hopes of better prices.

Doubt those were offline miners, more like a big player getting new toys, we're not having a gradual increase, we were at 4%-6% from day one, feels more like a new farm turning on rather than 300 000 old miners that were unprofitable 6 cents to become profitable at 8.

6% is a lot of miners.

100,000 x 200 th = 20 eh and we went from 420 to 445

it is likely the s21 in bulk
2158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What I did just to invest in Bitcoin. on: November 06, 2023, 01:29:34 AM
About one or two months ago I created my first thread about my regrets for not not getting into bitcoin on time when I was first introduced to it by my friend many years ago.
And how I have made a decision to start my bitcoin journey because I now realized I made the biggest mistake of my life back then. Before my very eyes I have seen bitcoin turn the life of people around and gave them financial freedom.
I must say the truth since I made that first post I didn't just feel relaxed. Firstly I went ahead to read the bitcoin whitepaper to have a full knowledge about what bitcoin was all about. And I was glad I read that whitepaper. After that I took some drastic actions to make my first bitcoin investment. I did something which is making everyone around angry and he complaining bitterly about that. I sold our family land and used the money to invest on bitcoin. Initially I told them I want to sell the land and use the money to travel abroad. If I had told them I wanted to invest it in bitcoin they wouldn't have allowed me sell the land. I have tried educating them about bitcoin but they were not just interested to listen to me as they are all illiterates. Now the truth has finally come out and everyone is on my neck to get back the money. I told told them I invested the money, they thought I have spent the money on women and other things. I have been abused several times but I don't care because I know the money is safe and never lost. I understand that in everything good there must be some challenges and set backs. My resolution to invest in bitcoin is final and there is nothing anybody can do about it.

lets go slow and easy.

When did you buy the BTC?

What was its price when you purchased it

If you grabbed it Oct 19 you paid 28k

It is now 35k

So just sell back most of it and give them their money. You already turned a profit.

BTW you lied to your family I do not know how the land was held or the laws of your area (county) but it almost sounds like you did a crime.

2160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the irreversibility of Bitcoin transactions a downside for an average person? on: November 06, 2023, 01:01:55 AM
So I saw this topic about succesfully returned accidental transaction and it provoked some thoughts.

Those that send money generally want to have an option to reverse the transaction if there's a mistake or if they didn't receive what they wanted. Those that receive money want transactions be irreversible to not get scammed by chargebacks.

In our world a lot more people are senders rather than receivers. An average person receives money once or typically a few times per month and then does dozens or hundreds of payments. And since they receive money from an employer, it's unlikely they will get scammed.

So why should the people who almost always send money praise Bitcoin's irreversibility if they personally don't directly benefit from it? Should they hope that merchants will lower the prices because they won't have to deal with chargebacks?

P. S. - this is not a topic about whether Bitcoin's irreversibility is objectively good or bad; it's about the perspective of average person today and what they need from their payment system in their life.

good idea for a topic. many people do not need btc to send it. They may need it for other reasons.

If I am a seller its good for me as no whole can try to f me by lying.

If I am a buyer it may not be very valuable at all..

Frankly I don't see btc as an ideal currency I see it more as a long term investment or as escape money.

As escape money the irreversible aspect is priceless.
