I decided to give my merits to persons of lower ranks, from newbie to senior member. I think it's not fair to give merits to high ranked users. I do not say that they do not deserve to, but what for they need it? But low ranked members really need it to raise. Unfortunately, posts I like and found informative and interesting in the most of cases belong exactly to high ranked members. This guy is pretty good, but the case of plagiarism made me to change my opinion about him.

That is narrow thinking.

What about top merited posts and top merited topics ? If posts are merited based on low member ranks so they can rank up then the good posts will never make the lists of "worthwhile reading". I check the list for several reasons - to look for good reading material and to look for merit abusers (who are often scammers or spammers).

Senior members that "don't need" merits to rank up  re-distribute merits from the sMerits that come with the merits. Their merit lists are often good sources of worthwhile reading.

Then you get the smart members on her like Loyce, Piggy, Ddmrddmr, vod etc that use that data to create various tools that analyse trends and suggest improvements.

Full merit transaction history for any user - now with GRAPHS! - LoyceV
Our very own sMerit Network Picture - enhanced with access to all sMerit TXs - ddmrddmr
Swiss army knife Tool to query Merit data online - Full History -piggy
Most recognised on Bitcointalk - Vod

Merits are for good posts and members that make good posts - regardless of rank. Ranking up is only a bonus for those that deserve it. There are plenty of merits floating about to end up with junior members that actually deserve them.
1422  Other / Politics & Society / Re: U.S President Trump: Google ‘rigged’ search results, ‘illegal’ censorship. on: September 03, 2018, 05:25:35 AM
I think it is just "alternative facts".

It is well known that google search results depend on your previous search results.

Different people can search google and get a different set of results.

https://microarts.com/insights/why-googles-search-results-vary-from-person-to-person/

People that have studied this use scientific methods.

Example, for each search, use a clean computer cleared of cookies and a VPN.

I realize that but even using a VPN could be affecting the results.

1) A lot of VPN providers are known.

2) VPN IPs are often shared and may skew the results.

https://privacy.google.com/your-data.html
What data is collected:

Things you search for
Websites you visit
Videos you watch
Ads you click on or tap
Your location
Device information
IP address and cookie data

(Your location is also revealed through your system time, OS language and OS version.)

Based on your google account:
Name
Email address and password
Birthday
Gender
Phone number
Country

Device information
Potentially they can collect:
User-Agent, Architecture, OS Language, System Time, Screen Resolution.
https://browserleaks.com/

What about analytics on the pages they visit ? A lot of websites use Javascript to tract for google analytics. This information is likely to be fed back to your google user profiles. https://developers.google.com/analytics/resources/concepts/gaConceptsTrackingOverview

Without knowing their exact methodology and having other researchers check it - I would be skeptical to accept it on face value.

The reason so many people use google is because it gives them the information that they want to see. This is both handy and dangerous.

The reason people use bing is because it is bundled as malware with some software distributions.

The other mentioned search engines are just not in the same league as google. I sometimes check them "just in case" they have indexed something not available on google.

Even using a clean computer can potentially skew the data - because how many people would use a clean computer to search stuff ?

https://privacy.net/analyzer/

Try the Canvas Fingerprinting

EDIT:

I did a totally unscientific test. Didn't clear cookies. (I dislike Trump).

I searched:

Trump
Obama
and Hillary Clinton

The I let auto predict provide the suggestions.

Starting with a to z

Obama a, Obama b, Obama c...

The only abusive suggestion was Obama j = Obama Jackass

The other suggestions were all relevant.

However I did find this:

Then I searched:
Obama is a
Trump is a
Clinton is a

The results contradict the covfefe.

This is the last stage of ICO? With 15% sale?

Yep you better hurry! I got in during the Secret Super Mega Bonus Bonanza Period when tokens were a fraction of what they are now. Hurry up and click that says Buy Coins Now so you can be a part of history!

Word is the Winklevoss Twins are now thinking about creating a Howeycoins ETF, which would be a tremendous price boost.

I thought they were still at the "we are announcing that were are going to announce something spectacular stage" ? Is that info for public release ?

I heard a rumor that the SEC was going to crack down on the competitors of Howey Coins. (That are not approved by the SEC like Howey coins is.) Surely that is some good news as well.

The account does look a bit smallish. What kind of compression was used ?

Intelligence Reduction, obviously.
Code:
digitalcryptocoin.IR
New compression format. With 1 byte of size. You need to unzip it but in order to do that, you need to reduce your intelligence quotient to match with his. Which no one would do lol.

Haven't they got it down to half a byte yet ?

Good job!!! I have already opened a similar topic but I think yours is far better so I will continue to post my progress here. Wink

This thread was started based on the information provided by you.

Your thread was referenced here:
This accusation has been raised based on a report from an investor here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4713497.msg42561032#msg42561032

and here:

I've raised a scam accusation here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4959264.msg44701272#msg44701272 based on your reporting.

Because your post wasn't posted in the scam accusation section I made the thread here. It often helps having some experienced scam busters looking at the information.

Within a very short time morvillz7z had found proof of fake team members and The Pharmacist (Default Trust member)had tagged the scammers to warn others.

Information like this also often assists identifying similar scams due to similarities between different ICOs. It is great when victims of scams are persistent in making others aware. Awareness and holding scammers (and those that assist scammers) accountable might prevent others from the misery of getting scammed.

It's really quite a problem. I'm only a junior merit source, but I always seem to have around 200 sMerits available. and I do award them every day. I can see why the senior sources end up giving out sMerits in 10s. It would be great if you could visit a few boards, read some some really interesting threads, and award a few merits. I feel that I need to start a few threads in the hope that I can generate some meritable replies. My problem is that I'm going through a political phase at the moment. I was tempted to start a thread about the litigation over the VolksWagen chimney in Mexico, but that's a bit of a stretch from Bitcoin.

Ultimately it isn't much of a problem. The culprit will get banned for plagiarism and got caught because you merited him. The merits can't be used for evil because the user will get banned.

It is easy to get fooled - it is not the fault of the victim - but the fault of the perpetrator.

Al Capone got caught for tax evasion. They never got him for the rest. He died from a heart attack and suffered from tertiary syphilis.

So even if you don't catch them... they might still catch a nasty STD...

How did you do that? Did you translate what he wrote into Russian and then googled it? My problem was that I didn’t know for sure if it was Russian but I could have tried.

This post is the most exciting one I’ve seen in months. So, now what is going to happen to him? I think he can’t be nuked as he isn’t a newbie anymore. Or can he?

I can read a bit of Russian.

I had a look at some of his other posts which was in Russian.

Then took some of the sentences and google translated it. Then googled the Russian translated sentences.

When I had an article that was a close match I translated it back using google translate. It was an almost exact match.

People that post stuff with % in them either do good research, make it up or plagiarize. The post looked like an article rather than a reply.

Oh dear, that will teach me to jump to conclusions without doing enough research. I only checked the post I merited.

Your merited post is plagiarized as well.

Electric cars innovation-but it will not take root in our world and this is a huge number of reasons.
The fact is that at the current level of development of science, industry, technology, electric cars create problems much more than solve. So, if the US completely abandons cars with gasoline or diesel engines, the electricity produced by the country simply will not be enough to charge all electric vehicles. Only 79% of vehicles can be charged per night. At the same time, the standard charging of electric vehicles is quite long and takes up to 8 hours, which creates additional inconveniences.

At the same time, 60% of all energy produced in the world is accounted for by "dirty" resources — coal, oil, gas. To increase the volume of electricity, it is necessary to increase the number of power plants, which means that local pollution near energy facilities will only increase. And still it is impossible to forget that on utilization of the electric cars which have served the technically difficult accumulators also the mad amount of the electric power will be spent, and the enterprises on their destruction a priori will be very "dirty" from the ecological point of view. Trucks also at the moment can not give up diesel engines — electric traction is simply not enough to bring the car in motion.
In addition, we must not forget that electric cars are not only more expensive than traditional vehicles, but also have a smaller power reserve, require special infrastructure for charging batteries — all these factors greatly affect the choice of customers when buying a car. Repair of electric vehicles is also a completely new industry. Persuading buyers to purchase such a vehicle can be difficult, even with government propaganda and support. And the largest automakers controlling the world market today are not ready to fall completely into the arms of the "green". After all, for them, the rejection of gasoline threatens to abandon the established schemes of production, promotion and sales of cars and the need to create a completely new industry — electric vehicle construction.

The phenomenal Network platform uses the blockchain technology in affiliate marketing. This makes the ecosystem more scalable, highly profitable, and secure. This platform makes it impossible for the fraudsters, cheats to get into the system, and makes it easy for the networkers and affiliate marketers to receive faster payments than ever.

Do you think that lying about their ICO ratings makes it impossible for the fraudsters, cheats to get into the system ?

Doesn't that make them cheats and fraudsters by lying to their potential investors ?

ICO bench has it rated at 2.8 and virtually no information and no verification of any team members.

ICOexpert doesn't even have phenomenal.network listed.

1433  Economy / Scam Accusations / SCAM - FSMsmart and www.fxempire.com fraudulent ratings site on: August 31, 2018, 11:20:03 AM
What happened::

FSMsmart

A friend asked me about a telemarketing call he received from a company called FSMsmart. They were calling him day and night and not taking "no" ( which later progressed to "fuck off" ) as a hint that he wasn't interested.

So I looked them up for him and noticed that a website called /www.fxempire.com had raving reviews on them while everyone else was posting shite reviews.

Example: https://nz.trustpilot.com/review/www.fsmsmart.com

Fxempire.com had lists and lists of dodgy sites with great reviews on it that anywhere else contained warnings about their fraudulent behavior.

Impressive reviews right ?
I tried submitting my own review - but surprise... surprise... it doesn't show...

Interestingly far more reviews are available on this company:

But why are they so different ? - Because the company themselves didn't write those !

www.fxempire.com is a scam site showing fraudulent reviews

So I had a closer look at www.fxempire.com and why they wouldn't list my review.

I found the answer:

So they are a fraudulent ratings site PAID to display false customer reviews.

Fake and fraudulent advertising by definition is consumer fraud and thus a SCAM

Disclaimers like this won't protect them from prosecution. Their system is blatantly false and misleading.

Although, this isn't a bad idea, to basically have more "moderators" on this forum I think it's a bit hard to implement as this forum has a lot of "trust issues" even with it's most senior members.
There are more trust issues with the non-DT members than there are with mods or DT members.  I'd say it's not even close.

Mods DO delete shitposts when they're reported and when the reports are good.  Not all of them, but I've seen quite a few of my reports handled just fine.  The thing is that those shitposts have to be reported in the first place, and not all of them are--and I don't think it's even possible for that to happen, given the sheer amount of spam here.  You'd need a team of mods or reporters working 24 hours/day and they'd still probably be overwhelmed.

In any case, there have been good suggestions that don't involve more mods or reporting, ones that have to do with holding bounty managers accountable and/or limiting noob access to bounties.  I don't think Theymos wants to go there.

I agree with holding bounty managers accountable for their shitposters.

Bounties that use bots or blatant shills should have their threads suspended and repeat offenders should have their threads deleted.

Maybe go one step further - allow bounty managers to moderate those people that carry their signatures. (feature for new forum ?)

A demerit system that determines which page the bounty shows on depending the amount of demerits their participant generate. The more spam a bounty generates - the further back their bounty shows. (Shitposter bounties are shown on page 5 or further back)

Despite the status means : levels 1, 2 and 3 and anything else.

If you have funds on a centralised exchange then you have to expect that KYC and AML will eventually be required.

It is the law in almost every country in the world.

When something is a legal requirement it doesn't even matter what the TOS states. If they don't follow the law they get shut down.

If you are trading on a centralised exchange that is not doing it yet - expect it. They will either comply with AML or end up shut down like BTC-e.

Statements by founders are always difficult. He was expressing his opinion at the time based on how things were then. Things change.

Legitimate (legal)  exchanges have to follow the law. There is far more oversight now than there was a year ago. Almost every country has toughened their AML laws.

Disclosure: I've never traded on that exchange and don't know anyone involved there.
1437  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The Rock Trading www.therocktrading.com : Selective Scam? You decide! on: August 30, 2018, 01:40:27 AM

So, you are saying they can disregard their FAQ? Really? FAQ are their own interpretation of their TOS and are binding in any court.

The text you quote of their TOS only applies to the process of registration. During this process, they can ask for further information at any moment. So the title is 6. WEBSITE REGISTRATION

If they could in any moment, without any ground, demand for documents, the AML regulation 8.3 I quoted would be irrelevant. They could already ask for the documents based on your quoted 6.3 on website registration.

And the fact that they are blocking my bitcoin withdrawals for months without saying anything doesn't bother you?

You would trust an exchange that breaches their FAQ (and TOS, 8.3) and that don't even informs the customer that all his withdrawals were blocked...

But not the deposits... deposit on, when you try to withdraw you will receive a nice surprise...

I don't know what you are seeing but I clicked the link you provided and I see this:

Which also links to this:
https://support.therocktrading.com/kb/faq.php?id=64

Nota:
per our sole discretion we can require additional informations or documents despite the status

It makes it very clear that they can ask for more information.

and

(Unsure if that applies but it would give additional grounds for asking for identification)

You would trust an exchange that breaches their FAQ (and TOS, 8.3) and that don't even informs the customer that all his withdrawals were blocked...

Their TOS 8.4 allows them to block, suspend or close any account that does not provide their request for additional information. They must have communicated with you because otherwise how would you know that they require identity verification ?

8.4 doesn't specify that they require a reason - neither is there an overriding clause that requires them to specify a reason. It also doesn't specify that they have to inform you prior to blocking the account.

I'm not trying to argue the rights of wrongs of AML verification - but with most companies it is a legal requirement that they do not control. It is something that they have to do in order to stop the authorities from closing them down.

As far as I can see their TOS are consistent with their actions and I cannot see any court siding with you. (In this case Italian court)
It is something that is imposed on a company. They cannot just release your funds - it defeats the purpose of why they are asking for identity verification in the first place.

The only thing that you can do is provide your identification and then withdraw your funds.

Tips on providing identification to exchanges.

1) Get a piece of paper or sticker and write the exchange name on it and hold it partially in front of the identity document so it is clear that it is for that exchange only.
2) Get a dated newspaper and place it as close as possible with the date behind the identification and fold one corner of the newspaper slightly over the identification. This makes it hard to crop without having to extensively photoshop the info.
3) Take a photo with a date stamp on it.
4) I usually try to get away with having part of the serial number covered or use an expired identity card. (deliberate placement of finger) This limits as to where the information can potentially be mis-used.
5) Use a flash and directional light to put a shadow on the identity document. (Harder to photo-shop)

Don't trade anywhere you don't trust with your information - only deal with reputable companies.
Use different photos every time you verify your information and keep a record of it - if any of it ever gets used for identity theft you know who to sue.

DEX technology is being improved all the time. HODL till then.

Again, I have to point out their absolutely clear FAQ:

4. TRT is entitled to block, suspend and close accounts of Users who have not been properly verified, notwithstanding any useful efforts by TRT to contact the User and urge the completion of the due verification process.

Yes - looks very clear to me.

Their FAQ is not their legal terms and conditions. It clearly states in their T&Cs

3. TRT is entitled to request the user, at any time and at its sole discretion, to provide further information to allow the correct operation and provision of services.

Can my ownership of the account be in doubt?

It could be. They don't know because you are refusing to give them the information.

Two highly contradictory statements:

I) I value my privacy very much.

I’m the owner of my Rock Account and money, this is going to end on the police and courts,

Most centralised exchanges require KYC documentation. The ones that don't are either located in a jurisdiction that doesn't require KYC comply with international AML rules (read: dodgy country) or they operate outside of any jurisdiction (read: don't comply with any law).

If you value your privacy then send them your KYC documents.

Police won't be interested because you can get your funds if you supply your identity documents.

Courts are not anonymous - not only will you have to disclose your identity - it will be disclosed to various entities (perhaps even publicly visible).

II) Their TOS and FAQ give me the right not to send my documents and stay as unverified customer. They gave four contradictory explications on why they were asking for my documents. All against their own TOS/FAQ or bogus.

Wrong

Their legal requirements will have changed due to their change of location.

I)   I have a high balance.

This will put you in the "high risk" category. for mandatory reporting.

If you want to be anonymous  use a decentralized exchange that doesn't require KYC verification.
