If this guys were really using some kind of tool, we should make him/her reveal those tool.

Spammers are a tool.

1522  Other / Meta / Re: Are these type of troll/spam post in accordance with posting rules? on: August 13, 2018, 03:10:09 AM
FUD

Let's face it, if coin's price drops because some troll posted something on the forum then it's an extraordinarily shitty shitcoin.

Perhaps you should stop calling it FUD and either address those posts head-on in a polite and factual manner or just ignore them. If they violate some actual forum rules (e.g. multiposting, wall-quotes, low-value one-liners, etc) then you can report them to mods. Trolling is very subjective and less likely to be acted upon.

I agree with your statement - mostly. FUD is an over-used word in shitcoinland

But malicious FUD (and HYPE) can manipulate price - not just in crypto.

Some times we can't say(and we shouldn't) every Merited posts are good ant quality posts. But sometimes some of the members have followed the posters profile (reputation matters in sometimes, not always) before they are going to award any Merit. You wasted your time to find out posts which not worthy Merits. Instead I would like to suggest read the posts of satoshi's from the beginning can gain more knowledge than you imagined. Just follow the top Merited users and follow their posts, how they contribute to the forum, how they answers for the questions asked by others rather than complaining or finding out posts which not worthy to be Merited.

It is hard to flaw Satoshis posting style and contribution. It is also impossible to read his writing without feeling an amount of awe.

No it hasn't. I don't think you understand how merit works or what it is.

I think as hilariousetc pointed out - I don't think jenia2 fully understands how the merit system works.

It probably also isn't a good idea to try and use some of the top posters on the forum as an example why the previous system unfairly advantaged them.

By using averages - over the time that hilariousetc and LoyceV have been on the forum they would have each accumulated much more merits by now than the 1000 that they received for their rank at the start of the merit system.

Full member accounts like these show jenia2 has a valid point about "some" of the airdropped merit.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1061674;sa=showPosts
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1179979;sa=showPosts

If you put it this way, jenia2 has a point: many of the current high ranking members haven't earned much Merit. And someone who hasn't earned much Merit since January, wouldn't have earned 1000 Merit in 4 years either. So yes, there's a windfall for old accounts, just like people who own Bitcoin for many years have a windfall.
That doesn't mean Merit is bad, it only means it should have been implemented sooner. But better late than never!

But like LoyceV observed. jenia2 does have a valid point.

Firstly to prove an account like a legendary account doesn't deserve their 1000 airdropped merit from the previous system you would have to check all their posts to make sure that there are no hidden gems in their to deserve 1000 retrospective merits.

For example:
If a user makes 1000 posts only a few will get merits. So 100 merit-able posts may get between 1 and 100 merits each. That leaves 900 posts that would never get a merit.

You would also have to take into consideration that Merit can have a positive effect. It makes people more aware of trying to make quality posts. While I don't care about rank (I don't do bounties or signature campaigns) - I have become more aware of the quality of posts. (Being dyslexic I use a spellcheck and re-read to ensure my grammar is correct). So spend a bit more time to ensure the quality is OK.

I agree with LoyceV
Quote

Also in my view - there is a difference between a person who adopted bitcoin in 2009 - 2013 and joined this forum and someone who ranks up now after 2 years to legendary. Unless they show exceptional crypto skills - it is just not the same.

Someone who was part of the early crowd is in my opinion a legend of sorts -  even if they shitpost and not as much of a legend as those that post quality posts.

Experience = input
Quality posts = output

Rank shouldn't just be an attendance award but involve participation.

1525  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 12, 2018, 03:49:16 PM

You seem to think that old accounts got 1 merit per post. Everyone got the same fixed amount based on their rank, so e.g. I got 1000 merits for 11-12k posts. But I'd be happy to give them up if you can go through my WHOLE post history and provide conclusive proof that I couldn't have possibly earned 1000 merits in 4 years. Then repeat it for every user that existed in January 2018 and we'll sort this merit debacle out once and for all.

Let me save a lot of trouble.

You have 510 merits in less than 9 months. The previous four years you got 1000. You should have had 1720 more merits than you received under the old system (based on your monthly average) . I think you have been ripped off. You would have had 3230 merits by now.

For my contribution from Sept 2016 till January 2018 I got 100 merits. I got 478 from Jan 2018 till now.

Not everyone is as smart as Ddmrddmr and not everyone works as hard as theyoungmillionaire

Both their activity count has to increase before they can rank up  - new members won't need to earn merits as fast as they do.

since we both agree on the 2nd point. and you were trying to be a smartass by giving me satoshis profile, where I have still provided 5 not merit worthy posts, the only logical way now to move forward is to demand these 5 merits removed from his account. Will you please be kind to open a thread about it?

None of those posts are shitposts. None of them received merit.

Not every post has to be one that gets merit.

Satoshi hasn't posted since December 2010 - yet got 1111 merits under the new system. So he would have easily ranked up.

You choose the account, ill provide 5 random shitposts.

I choose this account

What it will it prove ?

If you can't regularly put together a post that deserves merit then why should you have a hero or legendary title ?

then let's demote these legendary/hero/sr that post crap?

I have proposed that previously.  Grin

The option to send positive or negative merit.

Not every post has to be a merit-able post - but straight out crap posts that are inconsistent with the conversation deserve to be deleted.

Pick me. I'm curious what you come up with.

I did consider suggesting your account but I think you'll like the one I picked.   Wink
1528  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 12, 2018, 01:32:10 PM
the question is simple. who overcomes who. the ones that deserve it or the ones who dont? and how about hero/sr/member? this we will never know, but I have my theory, and you are free to stick to yours.

I doubt that any of the regular hero or legendary good posters on bitcointalk would have any trouble ranking up under the new system.

There are several people who joined just before or after the merit system was introduced that have more merit than they need and have to wait for their activity count to catch up.

If you can't regularly put together a post that deserves merit then why should you have a hero or legendary title ?
1529  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 12, 2018, 01:08:31 PM
Only one things is crystal clear though. If merit would have been introduced when this forum was launched, non of you legendary/ hero members would hold your current rank  Wink
I completely disagree with this. There are some users here on the forum that got many merits and they started from the bottom like nullius. If I remember correctly, he is a low ranked member here when the merit system has implemented but now he got so many merits but unfortunately, he is inactive right now.

I believe that we can get the required merits that we needed as long as we are not included in the most people here who are shitposting and spamming here. There are many members who got ranked up already. Those who are complaining the merit system are ones who can't contribute to the forum. Maybe I should include you or not?? Smiley JK

There are legendary accounts that would have trouble earning a single honest merit.

There are plenty of people that deserve to have a super legendary title that haven't bothered to rank up under even the old system.

1530  Other / Meta / Re: Merit? This got to be a joke. on: August 12, 2018, 11:38:44 AM
We all know getting merit is not easy. we post lots of quality post but still we didn't get any merit. In that time if we heard people selling their merit. that really frustration fact for us.

Your 19 posts consisting of 2 or three lines are not going to get you merit. Unless one of them says something profound and brilliant. Most posts that get merit take time and effort to compose.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2304374;sa=showPosts

Have a look at the type of posts that get merit: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats

Your motivation shouldn't be merit but making a contribution towards the forum. Posts for the sake of extracting merits are usually quite obvious to those that have merits to give.
1531  Other / Meta / Re: The Bitcointalk 10 BTC Donators - where are they now ? on: August 12, 2018, 10:46:09 AM
Most of the donators are busy now in making more bitcoins into their savings and many of the accounts were hacked in 2015 so some of them was donators accounts too.

Can I know why you are searching the donators?  Grin

Most of them I think worry about their donation...But that is life something can no value today but someday It will be priceless, and if they didn't donate they will sell them for $100 or similar price..nothing to worry..hahahahahhaaa

I think most of them don't. One of the things that I noticed about the very early Crypto community is that it was more about the code and the economic concept than the money.

The pure speculation, greed, mania and hype only came after it became more popular.

I'd be interested to know who you're talking about here.  I don't dispute that this has happened, because in my time on the forum I've seen members kicked off DT for all sorts of shenanigans.  Quickseller, Master-P, and TECSHARE are two that immediately come to mind, but there are more.  aTriz wasn't on DT, but he was probably close to getting on it and he was a good campaign manager who ruined his reputation by not calling out a scam soon enough.  I'm curious as to who you are referring to, however.

I got aTriz showing as being on DT2 (I temporarily disabled my custom list)

I'm not sure of who the OP was referring to but I can think of a few.

The problem is that even though these people ended up having issues and scam accusations against them their prior contributions should not be ignored. That is what got them to that stage in the first place.

Businesses do fail - crypto was high risk and still is high risk.

Some of it I covered here:
Bitcointalk trolls, dysfunction and all out flame wars. Guide to the scandals.

Senior members are still people. Fortunately a lot of scammers are discovered before they reach to that level.
1535  Other / Meta / Re: RED Trust...is it enough for fraudulent work ??? on: August 12, 2018, 05:03:58 AM
Before giving RED TRUST to anyone i think DT members obviously investigate properly.but my question is isn't it alarming when we see someone have 1000 merits but got red trust. This kind of profile spoils our forum fame.

Not really. For a start a lot of legendary accounts already have 1000 merit automatically from the merit that was provided to them automatically when the merit system was introduced.  Merit is for post quality and not for trust.

I have merited some users with negative trust because their post was good - sometimes their post was brilliant and very useful.

Trust is based on opinion - so the person placing it feels there is a reason to warn others.

I use a modified trust list to include people I know and trust and exclude people I don't trust.

Negative trust does not necessarily mean that the person is a "written off" in all aspects. This is why it is really important to place a reference link and clear explanation why the rating has been given. (Same applies for positive trust)

Anyone can provide trust or negative trust and people on the DT list is not directly controlled by the forum. They are "independent agents".

Some scams are clearly defined while others are more subjective. For instance - if a business fails due to no illegal activity of the member. Is it a scam because people lost funds - or is it not a scam because no illegal activity was involved ?

Things that can get people negative trust from a DT are:
Attempted or successful fraud or theft.
Business activity that resulted in the loss of funds by others.
Account sales
Merit sales / swapping
Harassing a DT
Offering escrow without a track record
Asking for a no collateral loan
Shilling / advertising MLM or ponzi
Escrowing for themselves
Late loan repayments / loan defaults.
Any other untrustworthy or illegal behavior.

Saying "I don't trust you" is subjective. It doesn't mean there has been a judicial process that has found the person to be guilty of a crime.

Sometimes minor dishonesty is a sign of more less obvious stuff. Like Al Capone who was convicted on tax evasion.

Also just because a person has done something in the past (history is something that we rely on to identify patterns of behavior) it doesn't mean that they will repeat their mistake or haven't reformed.

Some historical scams and failures have also been very good learning processes for the Crypto community.
Some of it resulted in Terms like:
"To get Goxed" Definition: To suffer from mt. gox’s technical glitches; to get screwed over by mt. gox; to lose all your money in a speculative investment .
"To take a Big Vern holiday" Definition: To disappear like Paul Vernon - the owner and CEO of the now defunct Cryptsy who "vanished" like the exchange funds. (Also referred to as an "exit scam".
"To receive a (Butterfly Labs) BFL upgrade" Definition: To receive something substandard much later than promised.
"To buy a Yesminer" Definition: To pay for something and never receive it.

There was a thread about why scams are not moderated and it has good reasons:

What is a scam and who decides it is a scam ?

Some scams are obvious but others are not. Once you start moderating scams it can quickly become extremely complex.

Some people call bitcoin a scam. Some people call bcash a scam - some people call it bitcoin cash.

Some people call Ripple a scam. Where do you draw the line ?

Cloud-mining contracts ? Short term mining contracts ? HYIP ? Pump and dump groups ? Crypto exchanges ? Tax collectors ?

The trust system - while not perfect - works fine in identifying and warning people of potential issues and scams.

The reality is that people need to educate themselves on how to spot scams, keep their crypto safe, use escrow and do their own research.

If Theymos wanted to, he could come up with a list of things that are and aren't acceptable.  It might not be easy, and it might not please everyone, but he could do it instead of doing nothing.  I mean, that's what laws are--they're written rules describing behavior that isn't acceptable.  Lawmakers don't throw up their hands at the complexity of the legal system and decide to not prohibit certain things as a result.

Once you start censorship it opens up a whole new can of worms.

If you censor some scams but not others it can provide a false sense of security.

Banning copy-pasting is not censoring because they have nothing unique to say.

It is also a matter of "proof" and "liability". Copy-pasting when caught is fairly clear cut.

Once you start censoring scams you are accepting some sort of responsibility for the safety of the users.

The whole bitcoin thing came from the Cypherpunk movement - which tends to have a free speech and libertarian viewpoint on life.

Once you start censoring it very quickly turns into over-reach.

The reality is that most users that get banned probably re-incarnate as another account anyway.

A known & tagged scammer is better than an unknown & untagged scammer.

Lawmakers often over-reach. The powers they give their "henchmen" often affect ordinary citizens. (I'm not only talking of developed democratic countries)

To make something illegal - lawmakers only have to declare it to be illegal. Lawmakers only pursue "crime" if it is in their self interest.

The average CEO salary is more than 531 times that of the average hourly worker.
Politicians get a regular pay rise  -but for other Government workers it is "not affordable".
Some wealthy executives pay less tax than a laborer.
Some drugs with minimal risk are illegal - while other drugs with high risks can be prescribed by your doctor.
Euthanasia, and suicide are illegal in most countries - but the death penalty or "shooting by police" is not illegal in some of those countries.
Some large corporations pay no taxes without breaking the law.
Some legal action can leave an innocent person broke.

1537  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's your opinion of gun control? on: August 08, 2018, 06:43:19 AM
...
Thanks for this very detailed post. It's annoying when people throw around statements without any facts. I like it when people do their research. I'm not really sure what to take of all this though. So, these three leaders were responsible for the death of millions. For at least some time, the all had very lax gun control laws. So, will more murders happen when there is less gun control? Or will there be less? Or perhaps it's not correlated at all?

Agree that false or incomplete facts are not helpful.  But Snopes is hardly the place to get 'facts' on any of a number of contentious subjects.  'Gun control' is certainly one of these.

Ironically the Snopes link is the only link that partially supported the notion that Stalin supported gun control.

Leadership though the ages has had a conundrum.  For one, they want their fighting age men to have proficiency with weapons (esp, long bows) so that their conquests are more successful.  On the other hand, most leadership (rightly) fears their own citizens more than any other threat more often than not.

Hitler knew he was going to be popular and knew he would need riflemen, so gun proficiency was encouraged at an early age among most of the population.  He did do gun confiscation against certain classes of people and, unsurprisingly, these people were later to be sorely wishing they had some self defense and were to suffer greatly for their loss.

The average Chinese could not afford a bowl of rice so no matter what Mao's policy (which doubtless shifted as the revolution progressed), there was never a danger of very many guns.  Indeed, the tactics in China's conflict with the U.S. was driven by an inadequate supply of weapons and consisted of supplying only the front ranks with rifles.  When the front ranks got mowed down, the later ranks picked up the rifles that were dropped by the recently dead.  This lack of weapons did not 'serve the people' very well...though it helped with China's burgeoning demographics problems.

The Soviet Union were communists, and commies do what commies do.  Namely, obtain complete control of everything possible and produce a massive death toll against anything and anyone, real or imagined, which might pose a future threat to their grip on power.

Any thinking analyst should be asking themselves why to hard-core push (world-wide) to propagandize against anything which could be used by populations for self defense.  Why is it so important to the United Nations in particular?  What are the conditions under which people might be so desperate as to pick up arms to defend themselves (which is unthinkable to most Americans at this point), and is the United Nations anticipating such a scenario?  Are they in fact even planning it?  If so, are they waiting patiently for the United States with it's very deep constitutional protections to dis-arm before their plans can proceed forward?

Gun ownership control against tyranny of a Government has no relevance.
Private guns against Government guns is a no contest.

Unless you are keen to go out in a bullet blaze of glory - gun ownership does not increase your survival chances.

Government tyranny and control develops slowly - in the minds of people. If you have a gun you will be isolated and disarmed. One by one.

I see people terrorized by police in the USA now. People shot because police think they have a gun.

Massacres that are happening in gun toting countries - you cannot convince people in such a society that their guns are responsible for it.

How effective is any resistance against a modern equipped army with handguns and rifles ? The weapons that are effective are already banned in the US.
Anyone got an RPG ? Surface to air missiles? armed aircraft ? Machinegun made after 1986 ?

One of my US friends told me his neighbor shot herself yesterday. Suicide by gun (by far the easiest method) is 46 times higher in the USA than in the United Kingdom.

Lack of gun control means:

More gun crime
More accidental gun deaths
More gun suicides
More police shootings
Increased likelihood of an armed intruder in your home.

Proper gun control means:
People with mental health issues do not have access to guns. Criminals do not have easy access to guns. People should not need have to have guns for "protection". (It would imply that criminals have access to guns)

A perfectly sane person should be able to have recreational use of a gun.  Tank ? Hell yeah - I want one of those.

1538  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I lost half of my crypto amount! what to do? on: August 08, 2018, 05:59:11 AM
The best way to return your money is to learn day trading techniques. Long-term investment in cryptocurrency is not highly recommended because cryptocurrency prices are very volatile and conversely short-term investments or day trading can be very profitable.

I would say the exact opposite.

Learn to identify when markets are driven by mania and when markets are worth buying into.

Use Bitcoin as your guide.

Don't exchange your good bitcoin for a shitcoin. Only buy it if you think it has something different or better to offer. (Not many coins reach that standard)

What does the coin have to offer in terms of innovation, development team, real world usage. How is it valued ? Look at the historic trends of the coin and that of symilar coins.

Buy it when it is low - then hold. The crypto market is young. Only buy quality coins. Hold onto them for a number of years not expecting to cash out.

Stay away from ICO tokens, HYIP coins, coins that get delisted from exchanges, coin-swaps, high pre-mines, lack of development, coin devs that refuse to admit their mistakes, pump and dump coins, lack of decentralization (exceptions are exchange tokens and tokens used for genuine business purposes)  or any other shady business.

Two types of coins will survive:
- those that will comply with legislation by Governments (as more regulation will be introduced) - Thus reputable, innovative and useful
- those that will withstand legislation by Governments - Thus private and decentralized.

I'm sure people made money day-trading Bitcoin. I know a few of them. Most of them sold their bitcoin when it was low and now regret it - as the bitcoin value went up they trade less and less in bitcoin quantity.  Their mindset is on fiat profit. Your aim should be increasing your bitcoin balance (regardless of its value).

1539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Dead altcoins worth reviving. on: August 08, 2018, 05:18:09 AM
The list of dead coins is increasing and many of them are dead for good reasons. https://deadcoins.com/

There is even a project that "buys" failed coins.
https://www.coinjanitor.io/#how-it-works

But sometimes in history there is an idea that was premature and the world was not ready for it yet.

Should any dead alt coin be revived ? Or should they be left to "rest in peace" ?
