ethereum is vulnerable during the hardfork ... this was the big prize for the original DAO lure hack and it looks like they took the bait, phase 2 will be brutal.

I can't look away!

close your spying eyes?

Srsly tho.
I find myself asking srs questions:
-Who was responsible for the insane run-up to 20 bucks?
-Who did Vitalik sell all those coins to?
-What kind of deals with what kind of corporations did the foundation have?
and others..

I was always inclined to think that the hack was a inside job, something is seriously up and we may know some details in the future. As for the run-up well I think that was all organic market flow really, a lot of ETH was locked in the DAO, Bitcoin was rallying close to $800 so I think it was just a logical ETH was valued at $20 in that time really. And basically the price didn't move in terms of BTC, it just held, so the "rally" was only in terms of USD.

It had to be someone on the inside. How many people could have spotted that exact hack and also have known when to pull it off.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

The 'feature/flaw' in the contract was well known by the ethereum community:

 - https://blog.slock.it/no-dao-funds-at-risk-following-the-ethereum-smart-contract-recursive-call-bug-discovery-29f482d348b#.43kkurycx  (http://archive.is/mm2kw)

But since you can't modify a deployed contract it was not fixed in time. Few days before the post on slock.it they proposed a moratorium:

Which resulted in this: { Moratorium on proposals until the DAO contract is upgraded (via newContract proposal), fixing most serious issues with voting and splitting. Funds can be moved to the new contract gradually, via multiple proposals. }

If you believe the Ethereum price will drop a lot after the hard fork, you sell short the coin and make some money.
I think wise people are not selling with the current price, they believe that the price will back to normal in the following months, and even me I just need to be patient as I am an loss when I sell.

Yeah a lot of people have bought ethereum for profit and they bought it when the price was much higher and now they cannot sell because they will loose bigger at there so they are in the hope of good time and are thinking to sell when they will get a good profit, I hope they get their profit.

The Ethereum price is rising after the hard fork. Does it mean the Ethereum community has more confidence?

I think so. The Ethereum price is over 0.019. That is almost 20% higher than a ago. So the whales are very confident.

Well glad I was right and it's rallying, I bought at 170 and I'm looking to sell above 0.02, let's see what happens. It can really hit $15-16, I think that would be the top. Eventually the hype will start to wear off and I can see it falling below $10 in the next months as we start to learn that new DAOs will be met with extreme doubts.

everyone has doubts like that in their minds and that is why they will not invest in there for long term they will buy when they will see a dump and will immediately sell when they will see a pump and don't now that what will be the future.

Price had risen enough for me to happily get rid of what i had left.  Not a train i really want to ride anymore.  Might go up further who knows.

Exactly, I only have a very few amount left and will mine some if it's still profitable (I have a contract at Genesis that I got for nothing). I'll sell what I have if this goes well into 0.02. If not I already have my stop sets so I can still sell with a small profit.

To short ETH right now requires huge amount of balls but it can make you a lot of money if timed right really and held tight for a month or so. There will be plenty of bounces. I really don't recommend margin trading in crypto, it's just too manipulated and you are up against a wall. Buying low and selling high is relatively easy and applies to many altcoins.

It doesn't take balls, just capitol. Make sure you only margin a small portion so you won't get squeezed. I wouldn't risk more than 20% of my stack. 10% is as safe as it gets. Gives you more than enough time to choose your exit. Like everything else it takes money to make money. The problem is people are greedy and over leverage themselves and get bitch slapped by the whales. they will never learn. Smiley

Ever heard the story of RRS Sir David Attenborough? It's a new arctic explorer out of the UK. The public was asked to name the royal research ship. The results of the poll came back overwhelmingly in favour of calling the $300 million vessel BoatyMcBoatface. This is what's happened to ETH, but nobody with any pull was willing or able to override the stupidity of the crowd.

Forgive my petulance and oft-times, I fear, ill-founded criticisms, and forgive me that I have, by this time, made your eyes and head ache with my long letter. But I cannot forgo hastily the pleasure and pride of thus conversing with you.

Yes, the big mistake beginners make is over-leveraging their position and then getting liquidated.  You need to be conservative, analyze the risks/rewards and hedge yourself if necessary.

Speaking of shorts, this appear to be the one thing price has in its favour at the moment.  Bfxdata is showing a record short ETH position on Finex of around 560K.

That could be right. After this fork, it showed that the Ethereum community can unite and do something useful.

All within a tight time constraint and all with consensus. Something Bitcoin has repeatedly failed to do.

I can see that Ethereum price goes down after the hack, And right now it shows that it increasing the value on the market. There might be some miracle that is happening now and a lot of traders is making comeback in ETH.
