Grin
The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

So, now that we know the only input possibility is via Ethernet, how do you set the thing up and get it mining? Just connect it to your DHCP network, wait to see it pop up, see what IP it has and http to it? Or is there a better way of doing it that I'm missing?

At last, so at least the goddamn conspiracy noise will drop to only the most paranoid who don't believe any amount of evidence.
We can only hope, next they will say that they only shipped out one unit.

It can be connected either thru a standard RJ-45 Ethernet cable, or thru wireless. See that yellowish plug for a wifi antenna between the PSU and the first fan?

Yea I'm not understanding either. Maybe it has an OS that you have to http into? Kinda like a router? haha

I'm very curious as it came with no instructions or software

Congratulations on shipping your first ASIC unit; you have beat all your competitors to the market (and incidentally made JGarzik a very happy man!). I applaud you on your achievement and look forward to what batch #2 will bring.

I will return to watching from the sidelines as you don't need another nerd yelling at you (mostly telling you that you are doing it wrong, because you have obviously done something right.).

Units are like mice. If there's one, there'll be lots of them.

It's using OpenWRT so yes. I was just curious about the lowdown. Can't wait for Jeff to post more info. Also, is the outer casing aluminium or steel? Seems quite thick.

It's a shame he doesn't have one of those "dangly microphone" thingy you see on autopsies - then he could webcast it (and probably charge pay-per-listen as well!!).

The OpenWRT controller is attached to the hashing units internally by USB, so maybe the USB can be attached to a machine with full bitcoind for solo mining.

You're probably quite right. So if Avalon has kept up with their unit assembly and shipping, we should be expecting to see dozens of delivery confirmations over the next 2 or 3 days Wink

As I've seen posted in someone's signature, "This is Bitcoin. I won't believe it until I see 6 confirmations" Tongue

Maybe the case itself forms part of the heat sink. Would make sense. I'd perhaps add a few fans to the lower end of the picture, but to save power one would want to let conduction and convection do most of the job.
