I have one that plugs into the back of itself (pass-thru style) so I can use it with 1 or 2 ports as needed without leaving part of it dangling around.

Actually I'm not exactly sure how a firmware change can gain 50% performance unless the one they were going to release simply ran it at 66% of maximum clock reliable speed ...

A firmware update could have unlocked certain previously unused parts of the chip. Just like a BIOS tweak can unlock the 4th core of certain Phenom processors sold as 3-core.

You don't think Intel, AMD, nVidia, etc. do the exact same thing? I talked to a guy a few years back who used to work for Intel, and he said they do exactly this. They stage incremental performance boosts to always have sales. In reality, they have the potential to make a CPU that would blow everything on the market today out of the water, but then they'd have nothing new to sell for years!

Ok,so the jally is going to use 4.5 watts,this is what I found out about USB 2.0,tell me if I'm correct:

Besides a data link, USB provides 5 +/- 0.25 volts to power an otherwise unpowered device or charge a battery in a self powered device.
A USB controller or hub is required to power one unit load (100 mA, a low power load). It can optionally power up to 5 unit loads (500 mA, a high power load).
The spec is silent about intermediate loads, so I assume that the sources deal with just the two cases.
Either a load is low power (like a keyboard or a mouse) or high power (like an iPod or PDA).


500 milliamps = one half amp (1000 ma per amp).

So, .5 amps x 5 volts=2.5 watts.We'll definitely be needing those dual USB cables won't we

Most USB ports that have been on stuff in the last 3 years or so will output 1000mA.  So, that will be right at 5 watts.  Its possible that the Jalepenos will just require that you use a 1000mA USB port to power it.  My laptop has its USB ports marked as being 1000mA so it will power it.

I sent an email to Gigabyte asking what the power draw on my USB ports can handle,just to be safe

GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.0) I have found no info saying either 500ma or 1000ma in the manual or online,so far  

Edit: I think I have my answer

Maybe BFL makes them run at say 2.5 volts? So there's room for a higher wattage?

You'll have to watch out with the Jalapenos. You'd probably be ok with most modern MBs directly into the board, but even powered hubs will be touch and go. Some can handle 1000mA like the ones designed for iPads, but I don't know of many that could support 1A on all ports. Perhaps BFL will offer them.

i do like what I am reading,  This mins BFLL is already doing testing on thier equipment which means production time is not far away. maybe first of november they can pump out the first 5k orders. or it would be nice anyways.

I do wonder though, are any of BFL's competition going to be able to meet or beat their power specs? 1Gh/watt is huge.
