If Toyota had people like you dedicated to shitting all over their brand name, I'm sure their reputation would suffer as well.

You are too kind to me Smiley

IMHO it's not me that's responsible for BFLs crappy reputation - it's BFLs long history of deceiving the community, their deviation of specification vs. real product (their FPGAs performed a lot worse than planned), their constantly delayed shipping dates.

Quote
Concepts: They have released renderings of their chip and the heatsink.

Wow ... they have released a black box with a BFL logo on it. You call that a concept?
And a rendering of a chip? Really useful stuff! Let me guess how this looks like: A black, square thingy with lots of silver pins? Surely no other chip on this planet looks like that  Wink

Quote
Exact drawings: They have released photos of both their assembled board AND the case(s) they will be in.

They have released photos of a PCB. And they have released photos of some chips/ASICs. Month ago. The ASICs - as we all know, and even confirmed by BFL, don't exist as per today. So what do those photos tell you?  Right - all fake.

Quote
Technical information: They have given technical information, beyond just "65nm @ 1GH/W".

Go on then - prove me wrong. Tell me some of those technical informations (and no - "it has a USB port" is no technical information).

Damn I can't wait until Jan/Feb/Mar when someone has finally released an ASIC and all this crap goes away.

By the way ... did you mean 2013 or 2014?

P.S.
When are you going to visit BFL? Any dates yet?

If Toyota had the same crappy reputation as BFL I would strongly doubt they can develop an atomic car.
You are too kind to me Smiley
You misquoted me. That's actually your quote, not mine.

I meant render of their board. http://codinginmysleep.com/first-look-at-bfls-asic-hardware/

A hell of a lot better than Tom's render of his board. Ya, his was literally a giant green square with 16 little black squares.

Right, they have had photos of their boards for months now. How does that = fake to you? The fact that those boards had prop chips is no surprise to anyone, as if they had chips back then, they'd be shipping back then. You're making mountains out of molehills.

I'm about to leave work, and that would require some time to dig them all up, but I'll get back to you. IIRC, they did release their die size, no?

Oh please god, no. Not again one of those "BFL sucks but the others suck too" statements. Inaba does this all the time. Do you asshamsters have to copy him all the time?

(for the record: Tom's render sucks indeed!)

I assume it will take you forever. But never mind - I had expected nothing different from you asshamsters ...

P.S.
It would be nice if BFL had this information all in none place. They do have a web page, no? Wink

So if the car doesn't start when you put the key in and turn it, do you no longer call it a car?  If someone has removed the battery, it's no longer a car?

Nope, I'd still call it a car. Though I may amend that and call it a...crappy car. Smiley

Is a BFL Single SC a Single SC without ASIC chips? Is a car a car if it has no motor?
I'd say a car can still be a car without a motor, though a more accurate description might be "self propelled vehicle".

I'm not trying to claim that BFL ASICS do, in fact, exist.  I am simply trying to dispell the belief that an ASIC must have hashed on the main network before it exists.  That's just bad logic.  It obviously exists moments before it hashes on the main network.

Hmmm. I'd like a definition of "moments". What length of time is a "moment"? If it's further divisible by any amount, could the hashing device have not existed only in that shorter time frame? The length of a moment becomes a moving target which, at it's limit, equals zero. So an  an object simply cannot exist (with respect to the network ) for any appreciable time before it hashes. From the perspective of the network, ASIC hashing devices are simply spontaneously generated.

I have discovered a truly marvelous proof of this, which this thread is too narrow to contain.

Does it consist of Fermat on a castle wall debating about two swallows and a coconut? If so, break up the theorem into two to three threads.

Meh, I've spent enough time in QLD to only associate mangoes with nice food and not genital jokes Tongue

This all raises an interesting question.

Ostensibly BFL is working hard on making their ASIC products, and they have produced a very real looking PCB.

But what if Nasser is pulling a fast one on the rest of the company, and instead of developing an ASIC, he's been pocketing the dev funds and stringing them along.  He's probably pretty insulated half a world away in France.  Clock buffers, anyone?

Yeah.... so.  You're a brilliant engineer working at a French Bank and you get an idea:
1.  Head up a company that makes FPGA mining devices, and decide to take it upon your shoulders to lead the company into the future with the design for a new ASIC chip.
2.  Help to create a board design that will work with a newly-designed QFN chip in order to make it easy for assembly, which is not only credible in design goals but in board layout and component choices.
3.  Decide that you never really wanted to help develop this chip even though you have a lifetime track record of this sort of thing, and instead run a financial scam to steal dev funds from BFL, all while still employed by a French Bank.

Seems highly unlikely.
