As far as the will-build-to-suit is concern, yes some the office area could have been demoed, thus enlarging the warehouse/assembly area, but that would have taken time. Remember, it was a couple months ago we were shown the eBay oven being unloaded at their new warehouse, a different facility than this one which, according to Jody, they started moving into yesterday.
As far as has been discussed, and as far as I know, the first run of ASICs out of BFL will not involve use of the oven or pick and place machine. If this is the case, all that'll be needed in the next month or so for product assembly is a pretty simple final-assembly area. Ah, At what point does integration of the PCB's happen in-house? BFL's talked about the various machines not being used nor ready for Batch 1. Then Jody says there won't be any Batches. A.K.A "Built on demand." So at which point do they start doing most of the work they are currently outsourcing? I'm personally relieved that the first run of these PCBs won't be done in-house. It'd be just one more thing to worry about in the whole process.

i see matching addresses, minus the city name (leawood and overland park border each other there, so that doesn't shock me much.) what else did i miss? 1200SF warehouse; 4800SF Office. As of Nov. 14th, space was still available, but we were shown equipment moving in prior to that date. Possibly, the earliest starting least date was Dec. 1st. No sprinkler system. Least rate. My smallest warehouse is 1200SF. It's nothing. BTW, the "No" in the image above reflects if the space is equipped with sprinklers. Is the sprinkler system the focus of your attention? If so, why? What is the importance? (Of there not being one?) May make it hard to insure OR............arson to come soon for insureance money Oh shit Your crystal ball is working overtime

https://forums.butterflylabs.com/blogs/bfl_jody/57-thursday-we-move.html#commentsFinally our new space is nearing completion and we are moving to Kansas. It's only about 15 miles but it will give us more room to build several lines at once. If you have anything to ship to us our new address is: 10770 El Monte Street, Suite 101, Leawood, KS 66211. We share the building with a building contractor. We may be a little slow on Thursday answering emails, but we'll be back online as soon as we can. Finally our new space is nearing completion and we are moving to Kansas. Ergo, nothing of BFL's was at the new facility prior to Thursday. ...it will give us more room to build several lines at once. Unless office space was eliminated, we're still talking about ONLY 1200 SF of warehouse/assembly space to build several lines at once. This is the flex space. http://content.att.my.loopnet.com/Listing/17860225/10770-El-Monte-Street-Overland-Park-KS/?linkcode=13850&FromPPPP=trueHighlights

Description
6,000+/- SF of office/flex space within a 13,920 SF free standing building.
NEC I-435 & Roe. Highway visibility/signage. Excellent access. Cassidy Turley does a pretty good job of keeping their lease space availability sheet updated: As of Thursday, November 1, 2012: http://www.cassidyturley.com/Portals/0/Kansas%20City/KC%20Industrial%20Listings%20Report%2011.1.12.pdfAs of Monday, December 3, 2012: http://www.cassidyturley.com/Portals/0/Kansas%20City/KC%20Industrial%20Listings%20Report%2012.1.12.pdfSo there was no way that eBay oven was at the new facility prior to Nov. 1. Published on 10-03-2012 03:07 PMIn House assembly:
One of the key bottlenecks in electronics production is PCB assembly. Outsourcing SMT to shared time equipment is the traditional solution. Outsourcing is much cheaper but it also comes at the high cost of limited flexibility. You often find yourself at the mercy of competing interests for tightly scheduled machine time. National holidays bring everything to a halt... sometimes for up to a month depending on the country.
The bottom line is that if you really want to control production speed, you have to bring PCB assembly in house. Then, if needed, weekends and 24 hour shifts can keep the production line moving to satisfy quick delivery of customer orders.
To this end we've purchased an entire SMT assembly suite and hired a capable team to run it. These units are currently being installed in our new facility. Installed at a new facility that wasn't leased yet? I'm also having a problem envisioning a facility assembling computer parts sharing a building with a construction company. Wouldn't there be a dust issue?

In other words, they were never ready to build a sizable assembly line?
IF what PG is pointing out is true, there was zero chance of there being an earlier shipment prior to now (or whenever they end up actually shipping).
They drew out the delays a piece at a time?

Coupled with I really don't see how they're even going to be able to manufacture subsequent batches at this facility. This is a shipping facility at best where their offices will be located. Not an assembly plant.

Curious as to which parts of my assessment are false. Would you be so kind as to point them out, Josh? Thanks, bud. ~Bruno K~ EDIT: I just found the following: 11-08-2012, 01:29 PMWe just moved the oven to the new facility... hopefully we can get it and the pick and place machine installed and picture worthy in the next couple weeks.
Our laser is awesome! I will post some pictures and video of it in action. I have an almost uncontrollable urge to go Duke Nukem in the back room, rip the laser off it's mount and start zapping people. Is 10770 El Monte the new facility you mentioned above? (As Elmer Fudd would say, "Be very, very, careful when answering that.")
