Attention Hodlers using Poloniex!

https://poloniex.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/1000271998-faq-for-planned-maintenance-on-december-17-2018-

What they're not telling you:

"After maintenance begins, we will cancel all open orders. When the site is back online, markets will be in post-only mode for a short time before we reopen trading. "

Just checked, I've got a dozen orders going back to July. So far Bittrex and Poloniex are the only ones doing this, everyone else has no problem. I would have to assume it is a way of generating revenue. Might be a good time to reposition some assets on a top 20 tier exchange having better cash flow (and more volume). Wink

Apparently there was strong opposition to having orders canceled.

***
We’re postponing the maintenance originally planned for this Monday, December 17th. Our final testing uncovered an obstacle we need to address prior to completing the upgrade in order to make it as fast, seamless, and secure as possible. We apologize if this delay is inconvenient for you. However, it is critical that we minimize platform downtime, and will provide ample notice once we’ve rescheduled the maintenance.

Additionally, in response to the feedback we received this time, we wanted to note a couple things: First, we’re working to find a solution for customers with many open orders. Second, we will do our best to reschedule during a time when volumes are typically low.

Should you have further questions about the maintenance, please see our FAQS https://poloniex.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/1000271998-faq-for-planned-maintenance-on-december-17-2018- or reach out to our support team, who are always standing by to assist you.

Warning!!

We are having issues with data collection for historical trades. If you have been running margin you won't see an issue as your local instance gets the trades directly from the exchanges. However, if you restart or load a new exchange you will see gaps in the data.

We hope to have a fix for this soon.

Please contact support@margin.de if you have any questions.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Huge opportunity for Crypto right now. After the Santa Rally things settled back down. But I think it is all in the timing. Stocks are at a 15 month low, if there should happen to be a crypto rally of 30% on today's rates which is not unheard of, it would once again have a lot more people looking this direction. I believe the floor has been met, it doesn't need to go any lower and indeed it dare not as the infrastructure is being threatened now.

This past week I closed out at 5 exchanges to better focus on exchanges in the top 20. The increased prices on the exchanges with more volume more than made up for exchange rates. Only Poloniex is on shaky ground while they decide if they are going to cancel open orders when they do maintenance. If they do they are gone, like Bittrex. Binance, HitBTC and Kraken have not shirked their responsibilities by canceling long positions.

In the last 24 hours all the talking heads have clamored that BTC will regain 4,500 all the way up to 6,000.

So prepare, I believe that using margin's EMA strategy the market does not really have to go up, just the smooth continual undulation of the prices should suffice.

I'm off to enjoy Christmas with family and friends.

Merry Christmas!

The 2018 Blockchain Transparency Report is out!

Have you ever wondered why a strategy dies at 4PM on a Thursday that has been running perfectly for weeks up until now with 480K USD showing in a 3 day window from lack of volume? ..so have I!

This speaks volumes, while I won't defend their practices, the "real" net volume at Huobi and HitBTC is so much greater than almost all exchanges, you certainly shouldn't discount them out of hand.

https://www.blockchaintransparency.org/

Compare the above link with the next one and you should have an ah ha moment.  Huh

https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/volume/24-hour/

This link may be of particular interest to the folks at margin, specifically the 5th column from the left.  Smiley

https://www.blockchaintransparency.org/december-2018-rankings

This has been a tumultuous <can't believe I spelled correctly on the first try> year for cryptocurrency and I believe this report explains some of the oddities that have taken place.

Happy New Year!

From Bitfinex

"Dear Bitfinex user,

We are rapidly approaching the last phase of our data migration to dedicated bare-metal servers, with scheduled downtime commencing on Monday 7th January at 10:00AM UTC.

This means that tomorrow for a period of up to seven hours Bitfinex account holders will be unable to trade or access their wallets.

There are no actions you need to take in advance of the data migration tomorrow, but please do pay particular attention to the following information:

All funds will remain safe and unaffected throughout the entirety of the migration and will not be at risk at any point throughout the update. No orders will be executed during downtime. All open orders will be kept (regardless of price movements) and resume once the platform is back online.

Users will not be liquidated during downtime. However, traders should be aware that if the price moves significantly during this time, they are at risk of liquidation as soon as the platform is reopened and should therefore take necessary precautions. We kindly ask all traders to review their margin requirements and assess the risk of market movement on their open margin positions before entering the maintenance window.

Whilst the migration is due to take place tomorrow at 10:00 AM UTC, we will continue to monitor the market and if deemed too volatile, will reschedule to more typical conditions. You will be the first to hear of any changes.

Tomorrow we will be in close communication to ensure you are fully up to speed. We will alert you 1 hour before the migration commences, and our status page will be regularly updated with our progress. We will send another email 5 minutes before the platform re-opens and trading will start 5 minutes after the platform is accessible again.

We have created a specific FAQ here, but if you have any outstanding queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our support team here.

We appreciate that up to seven hours is a significant length of time in digital asset trading, and we thank you for your understanding and patience whilst we take these necessary measures to make our platform even greater (please see our announcement for further details).

Rest assured we are working quickly to make this transition as smooth as possible without compromising on safety or quality.

The Bitfinex Team"

Our Market Scanner is down. We are investigating.

Edit: This also affects our portfolio calculation - when you click on the user icon in the bottom left hand corner.

Edit: This was already fixed last Friday. Forgot to post here.

margin 2.0.2 patch released

We are happy to announce that a new patch release (2.0.2) is available.

  • 3 new exchanges added: Coinone, Ethfinex and CEX.io
  • We reverted the behaviour of the absolute stop loss in the mArgin maker bot back to the functionality it had in leonArdo. This means that it now triggers even if the bot hasn't previously had a buy order go through
  • Some bug fixes

There are two ways to grab it. Either click the Patch Available link in the margin login window or login to your account on https://margin.de and download from the website.

Not a customer but want to try it out? Download our free Demo here.

On this page, there is an Easter Egg for those that want to try out margin doing real trading on a real exchange "for which no subscription is necessary!" (near the bottom of the page)

This is awesome, three exchanges at once! Thanks margin team! I'm going to be upgrading this weekend for sure.

Thanks a lot CTShaman!

Yes, you can try out margin for free in two ways. The first is to open an account at Bleutrade (https://malta.bleutrade.com) for free and then use margin for free for real trading on Bleutrade!! The second is to use it in demo trading mode which matches your 'fake' orders against live order book orders and let's you practice with margin's bots.
