I have an interesting problem here with a Batch 3 S9:

1. I have set it for a static IP of 192.168.1.60
2. I have set up 3 mining pools
3. It operates as expected for a few hours, maybe up to a day.

Then, seemingly on its own, it changes its static IP address to something different (like 192.168.1.203) and changes just the first mining pool to f2pool or  peercoin pool (not my pools or credentials). Pools 2 and 3 remain untouched. I change the settings back to 192.168.1.60, and reset the first pool, but several hours later its back to some random IP address and the first pool has been changed again to something.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? I've had this happen 3 or 4 times now over the past few days. I keep changing the IP and pool information back, but in less then a day that miner is back on some random IP address and mining at some random pool. I've reflashed the firmware but that didn't help. I've reset the S9 to its factory settings by keeping the RESET button pressed for several seconds, then re-configuring, but that didn't seem to help either.

I don't know what could be causing this, or how to stop these changes from happening. I have several other S9 units on the same network and none of them exhibit this behavior.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Try changing your password to the miner to a real hard one.

Sure your miner is not being hijacked by a virus or hacker. when you flashed the firmware did you check it for a virus. Virus.malware, spyware can attach itself onto any program including firmware also. had it happen with a smart phone when I flashed a custom ROM KERNEL onto it. I was sending emails and calling everyone on my contact list LOL. alot of angry people calling me back thinking I was pranking them.

Just something to think about food for thought.

This is interesting. I tried changing the password on that one miner but it always says 'invalid password' and doesn't accept the change. If I try to change the password to my other S9 miners it works fine. Very strange.

LOL. Do you realise firmware is for a different architecture, OS and can't be unpacked by antivirus?

Hi Guys,

Have 2x S9's running for over a week now, but I mentioned something strange...
I spotted some screenshots of other peoples S9's and Fan1 always runs slower than Fan2.

But here it is different? My Fan1 is running -faster- than Fan2 on the back?
Fan1= 3850 rpm Fan2=3360 rpm.

What do you think? Little mistake by Bitmain or more people having noticed this with batch 2?

The S9 uses a different fan configuration than the S7. It has a 6000rpm fan on the front (also used in the S7-F1's) and the usual 4800rpm fan on the back of the unit.
I can only assume this is due to more heatsinks and the longer case needing more air movement. On the plus side I find the S9's run a bit cooler than my S7's in the same environment. Albeit a touch more loudly.

Always hashing for the community. Oh, and dollars.

Congrats to you and all those who used UPS!!!

I have NO IDEA about mine (DHL) -- it shows nothing since it left China other than it passed customs in Cincinnati.  No actual arrival scan whatsoever in the US.  When I click on a + sign -- I do get the following message:

Quote
Unless there is an adhoc exam or a stop by another regulatory authority the shipment will proceed to delivery

So -- MAYBE -- DHL doesn't update you anymore once it leaves China?  I'm cautiously optimistic -- and have everything laid out for a quick install once it gets here -- if...

There's a reddit post today indicating that the S9 supports ASIC boost. The thread included the stratum command for enabling it:

Code:
{"id": 0, "method": "mining.midstate_change", "params": ["0x00000004", "0x04000004","0x08000004","0x0C000004"]}

Apparently it only gets enabled on pools that support it. If there's any truth to this then I assume that ant pool enables ASIC boost.

There's a fair amount of negativity around ASIC boost in general. If the S9 uses patented technology to mine faster for Bitmain or ant pool users than anywhere else then people are not going to be happy.

Not that it will stop anyone from buying. If people are willing to buy without a hope of ROI I doubt that a theoretical philosophical issue will stop them. Bitmain is the only game in town...

Please note that I have no idea if the reddit post is accurate. Probably a good idea to wait before taking out the pitchforks. It would be good to get an official statement from Bitmain, but I doubt that will happen.

Well if the boost is 20%  it makes antpool the only choice.  a lot of details will be needed for this.

I have 5 s-9's  so  it mining at antpool  makes my 65 th become 78th  it will be  very hard to not use antpool.

Maybe other pools will need to adopt  the boost.

The questions are:

how big is the boost?
what pools have the boost?
can any pool get the boost?

Ahh I see you all catching on to their implementation of "ASIC Boost".  Selling a miner that may take a hair cut if this gets hard forked out of btc code which I've seen some talks of already.  Maybe Phil this is the boost we keep seeing on the network.  Them turning this boost on and off on pools that support it. Just a wild guess:)

As in nature, all is ebb and tide, all is wave motion, so it seems that in all branches of industry, alternating currents - electric wave motion - will have the sway. ~Nikola Tesla~
