Greetings to all of you on this noble forum, and I should like to give a calm collected "'Alo!" to everyone here!

I have been seriously involved with Bitcoin for about a month now; in fact, I am part of a business that partly specializes in Bitcoins (mostly as a financial backbone) and finally software development on the frontend. I love the idea of having Bitcoin being somewhat of a passive form of income that we can use to help sustain us (food, electricity, internet, rent, etc.,) while we are programming on the iOS. The reason that I have come to this prestigious forum and thread is that I have a Apple related technical problem involving poclbm (using the latest version on a new iMac).

I've been spending time looking on Google, and a couple other search engines (not that I figured it would matter outside of Google) as well as this entire forum, and I have not been able to find an answer to this question. It is preventing me from utilizing all of the potential computing power that I have available to me at this juncture. I wouldn't mind posting my issue on this part of the forum (Newbie), but I do also request to be whitelist'ed so I can post this question in the (Technical Support) area, as this seems to be a little more technical than the average layman would be able to resolve, considering that Google wasn't able to help me -- here we go. I suppose this forum post is going to be a double-request for assistance, both whitelisting and technical support!



My issue is that when I try to start POCLBM through the Terminal on my iMac using the "-d 0" tag, trying to utilize the HD6750M, I get an error that keeps repeating on the screen about once per second:

The final line where it shows my MH/s is not accurate by the way, if you couldn't already tell. I'm not using any odd flags, though I have tried using -w (128/256), using vectors (-v), and the rest of the flags that affect performance I believe, and no matter what I do it keeps saying this. Now, I have already installed OpenCL (I believe it was installed properly), as well as the other components that require installation. This could be the underlying reason, but I believe these things are probably installed correctly. I know python is installed properly, because when I run POCLBM and set "-d 1" (Intel CPU) it runs fine, gives me about 4.1MH/s. I use POCLBM on all my Windows based machines for high-end Bitcoin computing, running about 3.4GH/s between 3 machines.

If any of you have any ideas as to how I might fix this, please post or message me -- I will respond expediently with any information you require to assist with this request!

I just assembled a mining rig of two 6950. For some reason, I am getting at best 75% utilization of each GPU. Often, only one of the GPUs will go to about 99% while the other remains at 0%.

I need to post a proper request for help at the mining forums.

I would like to request to get my newbie status lifted. I have been reading the forum for a while, and felt the need to reply in the topic "If you're thinking buying mining hardware, read this first", so registered and then found out I couldn't because I am a newbie *grins*

Oh and my reply would be:

I think it is simple to ROUGHLY determine how much Bitcoins you can expect from a new to build mining rig. Make a configuration overview and calculate the expected number of Ghashes you would get by using https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison#20_Popular_Mining_Cards and call this number MYHASHES.

Now go to http://bitcoinwatch.com/ and look at the lower left and read the Network Hashrate Gigahashs/s number, call this TOTALHASHES.
On that same page you also see Blocks last 24h, call this TOTALBLOCKS.

The number of Bitcoins in a block is currently 50, call this BLOCKSIZE. This will drop to 25 in 2013 and halve again every next 4 years.

The average number of Bitcoins you can expect to mine on a day is then:

MYHASHES / (TOTALHASHES + MYHASHES) * TOTALBLOCKS * BLOCKSIZE

Now that you have a ROUGH idea, calculate the hardware cost and estimate the energy (http://www.coolermaster.outervision.com/index.jsp)  you're gonna use to run the rig and to keep it at a reasonable temperature (AC ?). Is the place you want to put the rig capable to supply this amount of energy ?

You can go to https://mtgox.com/trade/history to get an idea of the US$ <-> Bitcoin exchange rate.

After all this, you should have a rough idea of your bright or not future ;-)

Any suggestions and improvements are welcome :-) Don't shoot me right away, this is my first post and I am a miner since a few days *grins* after reading a lot about Bitcoins, mining, etc.

The above formula gives a good value for my own situation.

Lets see I've been mining for 6 months and reading posts here for much longer than that, due to all I've learnt in that time mostly related to optimisation of mining on headless remotely located linux boxes which I run several of I'd like to help out others that were in the same place I was 6 months ago. I'd also like to finally get round to thanking the forum members whose post's and threads have been invaluable. I know I should of registered along time ago, I've been a bit too into the anonymous aspect of the bitcoin! A second reason is I have been doing some FPGA development at work and I'd like to join the discussions on FPGA mining.

so let's give this a shot... I've been mining for ~3months on a pool, got my dad involved (he even mines!) we are looking to put a small business together that takes bitcoins. I found what appears to be the perfect combination => drupal + ubercart + uc_bitcoin. currently hosted on godaddy linux, use AWS (amazon web services) to run bitcoind, and have everything just about ready to exit the "draft" phase of getting a business-based website up and running. low and behold, there is a problem, uc_bitcoin module for drupal6 gives an error regarding the file "bitcoin.inc" not existing! well, this file does not come with the uc_bitcoin module package, and trying to use the bitcoin-php library throws an Exception error. I am so close, but need just a little help to get things running. so, I come here to ask if I may be allowed to post in the forum "Bitcoin Forum > Bitcoin > Bitcoin Discussion", more specifically in the thread "uc_bitcoin: A Bitcoin payment method for Ubercart/Drupal" in the hopes of finding a kind soul to explain why uc_bitcoin is looking for that file, and if/how this issue can be corrected?

I've posted 0.3.23 and 0.3.24 bitcoin binaries for centos build to help users who are having problems compiling on a cent platform. (If that earns me brownie points).

I wanted to be whitelisted so I could post in the FPGA topics. I have some questions regarding cost-effectiveness and design. It seems to me that everyone is basing the cost effectiveness of FPGA chips on development boards which have a ton of extra features. The only thing that is really needed is a chip, a pcb, a small controller and you're off to the races. If you remove all the extra crap the cost should go down dramatically.

So, if I could be whitelisted so I could join in the FPGA discussion I would appreciate it.
